421  Other / Politics & Society / Ben Bernanke: "Explain to your kids what a bankrun is." on: August 08, 2012, 12:54:04 PM
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdDvfCvxIw8#t=1606s

Q: Do you see any events on the horizon that teachers should be aware of and ready to talk with students about?
Ben Bernake: ... You can explain what a Bankrun is.

The whole show the FRB uploaded to youtube is really awkward. Ben Bernanke is posing with teachers to give him some kind of down-to-earth reputation.

A minute later at 29:00 you can see listeners sleeping while BSB goes on with his speech.

That could be interesting. I hope their system supports unicode.
Why are you specifically asking for unicode?
423  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory - Discussion Thread on: August 06, 2012, 03:34:26 PM
i have the following problem with armory:

i have a wallet with 3 keys and a small amount (0.078872) of bitcoins. i want to send them, i chose an amount 0.078372 which should empty the wallet minus fees. this fails, armory tells me this exceeds my balance (which in itself is not true) then the tx fee is increased to 0.001.

i adjust the amount to 0.077872 then i get the "confirm transaction" but the button "continue" does not actually send anything or even close the window "send bitcoins"

also sending other smaller amounts out of this wallet fails.
424  Other / Meta / increased necromancing? on: August 06, 2012, 01:49:13 PM
is something going on? why is there so much thread necro'ing?

conspiracy theory: is there something important that someone wants not attention on? thread necroing is a common technique when trying to control a forum

feels like bitcoin being "knighted"
426  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: BIP Draft - Standardized/Protected/Multi Private Keys on: August 03, 2012, 09:28:25 AM
who not use standard BIP11 addresses?
427  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: Unofficial attendance list - Bitcoin London 2012 on: August 03, 2012, 06:36:53 AM
i will be there and at least 3 other austrians who i know personally will come too.
428  Economy / Speculation / Re: Looking for explanation of this chart. on: August 02, 2012, 03:29:08 PM
i would really like to see an overlay graph with the popular webwallets (active users last week) android installs, multibit installs, electrum installs, active users on exchanges (used like webwallets)
but i think that kind of data might be hard to gather.

431  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [ANN] Bitcoinica Consultancy abandons customers. Bitcoinica to enter Liquidation on: August 01, 2012, 07:54:19 PM
It would be very sad if that happens. The Conference should not be about Bitcoinica, Intersango, or any other particular player. It is about bringing the community together, listening to great speakers and hear about new ideas. Just take a look at the confirmed speaker list. I am definitely coming and it will be a great event-no matter who organizes it.
Time to rigorously boycott Intersango and the "Bitcoin Conference" then?
BB.
That's a no-brainer. Of course you abandon both. Community has already split because of this ordeal.
432  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [PODCAST] Coinbase: The Best Bitcoin Podcast In The Universe, by Plato and Hiro on: August 01, 2012, 04:07:44 PM
very nice!

interesting topics, good information. great podcast for the bitcoin nerd Smiley

a little feedback:
your microphone seems a bit overdriven try adjusting the incoming volume a bit, and use a audio leveling later.
the pacing of information was almost too high from time to time.
433  Economy / Speculation / Re: When will the price of Bitcoin exceed $31.90? (2011 high) on: July 31, 2012, 11:10:48 AM
Methinks we may see $31.90 sooner than most people realize...
yes some have indeed seen it already Smiley there is no arguing we have a new all-time high today!
434  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Julian Assange Show: Cypherpunks Discuss Bitcoin on: July 30, 2012, 08:49:38 PM
Multisig is the best answer, but we still have yet to see a working system implemented across multiple devices.  Hmmm... if only I wasn't already working on a few things and going back to school in a few weeks...

Until we have widely used, simple multisig I can't feel comfortable suggesting bitcoin to people who don't understand computer security.

i am working furiously on multisig support for bitcoinJ/android Smiley
see my work at the clone http://code.google.com/r/andreaspeterssonat-hackathon/source/checkout
its not 100% finished but on a good way

if you have any practial ideas how to handle distributed keys, let me know. as a reference app i will most likely have a http signer service which lets you spend funds from multisig addresses if you supply a pin
435  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Two-person cold storage using the raw transactions API on: July 24, 2012, 07:01:32 PM
i am currently also develping BIP11 support for BitcoinJ as a followup from the Berlin Hackathon:

Gavin, are you referring to BIP16 with this text?
436  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] BitcoinSpinner on: July 24, 2012, 02:02:02 PM
Define reasonable.  What is reasonable security for one person with enough bitcoin on his phone to pay for a night on the town is going to be different than reasonable security for a cash mule trying to stay alive and deliver goods to the Zeta's.
I think we need to talk about our target audience.
437  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wiki Captcha required - 60% new user creation on: July 24, 2012, 07:16:03 AM
this would be a great addition to any wiki software. a bitcoin-based captcha.
438  Economy / Services / Re: Bitcoin Camming Site on: July 23, 2012, 06:49:53 PM
first. embed a watermark in the stream. also, put in an option to automatically upload everything to coinDL and let the cammer set the price. that way, if somehow the stream gets "leaked" potential users will have a very low-barrier method of purchasing additional content.

maybe combine with an online video editor to set begin, end times?
439  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Smart card wallet, take 2 on: July 23, 2012, 03:13:22 PM

has started mentioning bitcoin in roughly every second of his "Silver Update" videos.
i think in this case you should clarify what "every second" means Smiley
