this looks like something like a DPoS chain where, delegates are Provisioners but in this case Blocks generation isn't a delegate's task but there other light nodes doing that. I've yet to understand why is more efficent then a DPoS system
By using Proof-Of-Blind (Dusk's consensus mechanism) to provide the sybil attack resilience of PoS with anonymity; segregating the operations of block-generation and validation/voting/notarization to make it possible to create the first economy resistant to centralised pooling attempts (which is a problem with PoS in general, DPoS is just a variation of PoS nodes are even more centraliseds to a delegated few). Dusk's consensus mechanism has built in resistence (on the protocol level) against the attack vectors commonly talked about in literature on PoS, namely: 1) nothing-at-stake attack - in summary it is the problem with (d)PoS systems where nodes don't lose anything from behaving badly, they lose nothing by forking the chain as they will receive both coins on both chains if a fork happens. Note: this problem does not exist with Proof-of-Work (PoW) as the miner gets the most reward from being on the correct chain as that is where their hashing power lies, and; 2) long-range-attacks - because of its voting system that is built into the Dusk blockchain and is being engineered to avoid chain divergence. |

We basically create a node economy where nodes compete for block rewards, and provisioners earn a steady ROI. However, since power and financial incentives are inversely related, a higher stake than the minimum required will only increase your %% but decrease relative rewards, meaning that you are forced to decentralize for maximum financial gain. This system is novel (new) and guarantees that the network decentralizes and that power does not end up in the hands of a few. |

I wonder if businesses who deal with such sensitive data that they need to have a high degree of anonymity and security are interested in buying technology or prefer to roll their own. Because if their standards are that high they need to audit the code, which might be just as much work as creating it.
Also, if they cannot audit the code they need to trust a black box, which is a security flaw. If they can audit the code, they can also copy the code, and if it is any good, sell it by themselves.
Code as well as any IP developed will be released open source under MIT license. The code is developed together with research organizations in the context of an official research project and run accordingly. Research institutions have a business model that revolves around certifying the absolute correctness of a technology. Any release of code is thus a stamp of approval that the technology is audited, and up to standard. The reason for this approach is that open sourcing work in progress incurs the risk of implicitly putting their names (of the research institutes) behind something that is not completely stable nor working and might be affected by bugs or problems. They don’t want this risk. The Dusk Network is the object of advanced research by official national institutions and as such we will, on the one hand, avail of the official stamp of approval of these organizations that are tackling the most delicate part of development, on the other hand we are bound by their timelines to release code opensource. |

is there any master node/super node going to be there for DUSK network? Is there any details or reward structure planned?
Dusk utilizes two kind of nodes; Network nodes - transactional network clients. They compete with each other by locking an arbitrary amount for the generating and proposing of new blocks. Block generation is a computationally light task and therefore running a node does not require neither specialised equipment nor storage. The intention is for normal mobile devices to be able to run as a node within the network. The non-deterministic nature of the bidding process makes it so that even nodes bidding the minimum amount of DUSK have a fair chance to win the block generation sortition lottery. Provisioners - These are nodes that have committed a certain minimum stake to the Dusk Network and take care of more network intensive tasks such as block verification, voting, and notarization (VVN operations). These types of nodes are non-transactional The intention is to create an economy where nodes compete for block rewards, while Provisioners earn a steady ROI. |

Is there a variant of whitepaper that is easier to understand by a common person, not a mathematician?
Since from what is available, there was only a vague impression that we are talking about some kind of anonymous network.
The Dusk whitepaper is very technical indeed. That comes from the fact that nowadays blockchain whitepapers are nothing more than a business plan full of technical claims that are not substantiated by a carefully laid out analysis or by formal descriptions of the envisioned algorithms. In that regard inspecting the code base, or MPV, is a way to understand the legitimacy of the development efforts and its “progress”. Dusk research paper is exactly the opposite and way more advanced. It goes to a great extent to describe accurately the technology used and the algorithm. You won’t find details of business development or even use cases. This because it is intended as a development manifesto (a proof of concept - similar to what an aforementioned prototype or MPV would prove) of a complete system with all components laid out and specified quite formally. In that sense, by inspecting code you would learn nothing more than what is already laid out quite accurately in the research. |

I'd love to participate in a bounty and , yes I do agree, that privacy based projects will have success especially in this field. I just noticed this project and its potential, I hope it's early enough to join me and accompany you. Reward campaigns are often really attractive, as long as well controlled, without exaggeration, would be interesting Two types of projects are nearly successful all the time, Data related ones and the privacy related one. How are you guys different than the ENIGMA Protocol? I mean what are the added benefits?
"As it stands, Enigma is not a blockchain but an off-chain network (that currently pegs to the Ethereum Blockchain), offering decentralized private smart contracts and data storage. Dusk, on the other hand, is a full fledged cryptocurrency with a novel consensus algorithm (SBA*), peer to peer secure data transfers trough STS technology and the capability to create privacy aware Secure Token Offerings (STOs). Does your consensus algorithm exist already? was it already implemented/tested in some proof of concept or is just on paper?
Dusk combines tested technologies but at the same time presents a consensus method underlying the blockchain that is a lot different of what we have seen before. Stealth addresses, Ring CT layer technology, Algorand and even Cryptonote are all used for inspiration. These technologies are all tested and used. However, dismissing the technological breakthrough of SBA* (Dusk's consensus algorithm) as a simple combination of Algorand with Cryptonote (stealth addresses, Ring CT, etc), is the equivalent of dismissing Bitcoin because it combines Hashcash with digital timestamping services . SBA* provides several novelties that are not in Algorand and certainly not in Cryptonote. The latter uses proof-of-work that 1) sooner or later will face severe restriction by states because of excessive consumption of energy 2) requires specialized equipment and 3) promotes pool centralization. Algorand on the other hand is completely open, oriented to permissioned networks and does not even foresees reward incentives. Simply combining the 2 technologies also is not possible since they are incompatible (Algorand works only if the stake of any single node is completely open which goes completely against the philosophy of Cryptonote). SBA* is INSPIRED by these technologies and we mainly refer to them to explain how parts of the system work and how some of the technology is taken from the field and is thus tested, it however evolves toward completely different directions and presents novelties that IMHO qualify SBA* as a breakthrough: 1 - Blind bidding solves staking with anonymity 2 - The segregation of operations makes it possible to create the first ever economy being centralized pool averse 3 - It solves elegantly also the nothing-at-stake problem through its voting system |
