421  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpartanCoin - Cryptocoin for the competitive world. on: August 01, 2014, 06:35:35 AM
Worked hand in hand with website dev last night ... major portions complete. Have some tweaking on main page for information. Integrate wallet use in the site and one last page to create to tie it all together. Looking real good. Can't wait to check that off as done.
Sounds great!  Thanks for the update.  Keep up the great work!

Btw, wemintealtcoins is having issues.  I can't mine there, and the website won't load either.

As for CYC, it has a sketchy history.  These are the vote counts I have recorded for each of the given dates:

2014-07-12  6041
2014-07-13  6732
2014-07-14  7304

Look at how they dropped way back down on July 20th.  So somebody's been doing something funny with that coin.
422  Economy / Speculation / Re: Dafuq is happening with btc price on: July 31, 2014, 05:11:59 AM
You cant judge bitcoin like some stock that realy has calculatable value behind it.
Bitcoin is speculative guess at best, since there is nothing backing it up.

The reasong why its so volatile, and currently experiencing another dip, is by my opinion mass of investors that went in on bitcoin expecting very fast progress that didn't happen, and they are currently leaving the market, worrying that they will have further losses.

Sure you can depending on where your trading and give a good indication on where things are at currently and seeing some big dips and if you follow all the new around Bitcoin you will find your answers within news and current trades going on all over the place. Theirs some big ish walls to get past $590 area however I see a down trend and it will continue unless some big players decided on hopping on having said that dell now accept Bitcoin but they not really doing that much in terms of buying selling or people buying their products.
At this point, I think that adoption is only going to have much effect in the longer term.  If I buy some BTC so I can spend it right away on Dell's website, what I'm doing is effectively price neutral.  And if you have people that already have BTC from the early days or mining, when they spend at merchants, the merchants will likely trade in their BTC for fiat, and you end up with downward pressure on the price.  For the price to go up, we need investors.
423  Economy / Economics / Re: Anybody using online tax filling sites? on: July 31, 2014, 05:02:21 AM
Same here, used turbotax/intuit and like the  process even saves info from year to year to make it easier to file the next.
Yes, that is a huge benefit, and one of the things that keeps me going back to TurboTax (although I'm pretty happy with their service anyway).  That's a huge time-saver, especially if things don't change much from year to year--it probably saves me at least an hour.
424  Other / Off-topic / Re: SOLAR ENERGY ? on: July 31, 2014, 04:58:39 AM
I've done some research of my own in the solar energy solution looking to find a good way to save money but it seems it would only save me money in 20-30 odd years in the future which  is quite hard to believe.

i had someone quote me 30k for enough solar panels to provide 700 KWH per month. they are vastly overcharging, because they were trying to convince me to buy a brand that they approved.

i was browing around a bit, and it sounds like you can get a system installed for under $10k.. so your ROI should be less than 20-30 years.
That does sound like overcharging.  700kWh/month at $0.08 per kWh would only save you $672/year.  That's only $13k in 20 years.  Unless your electricity is much more expensive than $0.08/kWh, that's a terrible deal.  How much are they charging per installed watt?  Like $10?

And if someone says you'll get so many kWh/month out of the system, make sure they tell you how many you'll get per year (is 700 a good month or bad?), and make sure you have a way of keeping them to that promise.

depends where you are living, really. where i am, 700KWH/month costs more than $200. that's $2,400 per year in minimum savings.

tier 4 costs 33 cents per KWH. the number fluctuates, but i believe you get out of tier 1 after using 180 KWH.

Wow, where are you?  From what I've read, 14 cents/kWh is on the high side, at least in the US.  33 cents sounds insane.  But that sure would make solar panels a better deal.
425  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin is a hot target for criminals and money launderers. on: July 29, 2014, 03:39:07 AM
**Fiat** money is the most anonymous you can get, Bitcoin is a semi-anonymous (Aka pseudo anonymous) system that allows for lots of transparency when it comes to watching transactions.

Bitcoin can be traced, kind of, but it is much harder to trace cash.

Terrorists can use Bitcoin, but guess what? We can watch where it goes.

Criminals can try to launder, but people are still watching...
I believe you mean cash, not simply fiat.  But anyway, cash can be traced by the serial numbers on the notes.  Although I don't know how much that's actually done.

In any case, it's not just about what you can and can't do, but how easy it is to do it.  If I want to send $10k to someone on the other side of the world to fund a terrorist operation, it's a heck of a lot easier to buy a few bitcoins and send those than it is to physically transport that much cash.  And just because we can trace bitcoins, that doesn't mean that it's easy to do, or that someone really watches for "suspicious" transactions.  If a $30k wire transfer is initiated, someone will probably pay attention to it.  If someone sends 50 bitcoins, no one will pay attention or care.
426  Economy / Speculation / Re: What Bitcoin Will Be Worth before end of 2014 on: July 29, 2014, 02:24:53 AM
There will be high possibility to climb back to the peak of 2013 if China and other countries cancel their restriction to BTC. I think it isn't long before they will realize the benefit the new technology will bring to us.

Came here to say more or less this...China can potentially play an incredibly strong role in sending bitcoin moonward in 2014, as was already shown in 2013.  For what it's worth, they have the #2 highest GDP in the world.  Clearly, many Chinese enjoyed Bitcoin for a short while.  However, the ripple effects of so many Chinese people in the Bitcoin market have not ever been realized.  The price could easily soar if restrictions are eased in China, otherwise I think we will see a generally steady price with gradual increases.
I agree that China could play a huge role in another rally if restrictions are eased.  But do you really think that's going to happen?  Maybe eventually, but considering how much the Chinese government likes to control things, I doubt it would anytime in the near future.  If anything, I see regulation getting worse.

If you can figure out how to install the panels yourself and then just hire an electrician to hook them up to the grid, you would save significant money.  Otherwise, if your numbers look like bluefirecorp's measured data, it will be a lot harder.
429  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpartanCoin - Cryptocoin for the competitive world. on: July 29, 2014, 01:18:17 AM
Conspiracy Coin will takeover Spartancoin and any other coin on mintpal voting list.
They jumped from place number 50 to 7 th place on the list in 3 days.
What a fraud and no one wants to do something about it.

Yeah, it's frustrating.  But don't give up hope.  Keep voting.  They might be cheating.  Do you see COOL?  They passed us a week or two ago.  Now they're in 49th place.
430  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpartanCoin - Cryptocoin for the competitive world. on: July 28, 2014, 12:06:17 PM
Wow!  Looks like a couple people started paying attention.  Several million coins were bought on C-cex, and the network hash rate spiked to over 300 MH/s. Smiley

Edit: Sorry...several million vs. BTC; over 60M vs. LTC Wink
431  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpartanCoin - Cryptocoin for the competitive world. on: July 28, 2014, 06:33:05 AM
Fellow Spartans,
My apologies on the absenteeism over the past couple weeks. I normally come in and put some updates but those of you know I took on a second job to help fund larger projects with Spartancoin. On a personal side to this I have been working 12 hours a day for the last 9 weeks without a day off so I have been working with developers for the 1-2 hours a night as I could. I think all in all I am working 18 hours days average. so I am a tad beat. Crashed a little this past week. Anyhow, I am almost done up here, I have a week left then back home where I can go back to full time on Spartancoin. Was a rough choice on my part to take this but it is a means a better end, so I took it. I figured I could manage the project from the top of Alaska but the internet was shotty so that slowed me up. I have connected with many developers on this forum, elance, and reddit in terms of working on the items I need to kick us off. my plan was to be done in August when I returned home and we would be up and running full force. I am close.

At moment and I hate to say it... PoS is coming still. If anyone has worked around this, finding quality knowledgeable available developers for this is a treat to say the least. I am on Dev #4 and he claimed in less than a week he will have PoS. We are on Day 4 atm so he has a short time. This is a pivotal moment for us as well and will move us forward.

Secondly the android app, Few tweaks needed to release first launch without the social connections I have planned. But again a Dev that is unavailable when they claim they would be. But it is coming I just sent a list of tweaks needed to help get this ready. C-cex is used in the app for valuating the coin for currency conversion so thank you for posting c-cex was looking to remove us. I did mention to the exchange how I point people to c-cex. I like their exchange. I like the interface and have spoke with the dev on some changes. Again a working relationship I intend to keep and one I will pass on to other exchanges as well. I believe in the business relationship and the benefit they provide us as well as we do them.

On the social side of the app, I have been approached on a concept to allow coins to be sent on multiple social networks without the need for tipping bots and it peaked my interest. We will be incorporating it into the 2nd release of the android wallet once the bugs are worked out. To me it will put us at a one of a kind position on that aspect.

The website, I burned through one developer who claimed to be able to work on the project. Was someone I worked before so I trusted them. Was told would be a month. So i let it be was working offline. Month came around and said I needed to find someone else he wasnt able to do it. Wasted my time. Took me 3 weeks to find someone who appeared to have the skill sets I needed. site is underway and I am seeing more done now than ever and very excited about it. I am looking for the August finish dates. probably closer to the middle or end of the month for completion. Once the site is completed I can work on the Facebook integration.

I need all the pieces to come together and then we will be full speed. The community has been awesome with the steady support. I truly appreciate it and my apologies for being out of pocket for too long. Not my intention. Thank you as well to Darktrix for checking up on me on skype. Didnt realize the forum was as neglected as it was.

Also I mentioned a bit ago about the race in Australia. I was to set up a donation part to get help creating tshirts for the race. Should have 50,000 people in attendance. I just went ahead and purchased all the items and will have them made and shipped. Was busy getting things organized and pricing I lost time and couldn't wait for donations. I have means to make my own custom apparel so it is a huge benefit to spartan in terms of being able to promote. I can make just about anything at wholesale cost. Its going to be a huge benefit as we get moving and begin promoting all around the world.

I am back to the grind now connecting with project devs tonight and keep them moving forward. Thank you again for your patience. We still have more to go and we will get there. Anyone who wants to contribute to the projects or has projects of their own in mind feel free to contact me and we can talk.

Keep the voting going on Mintpal as well. We can make it. Everything will be close, exciting and all will be perfect timing.

Aroo!!

Thanks for the update, and for all your hard work and dedication!  You rock!  Sorry to hear about the dev stuff...sounds very frustrating.  Take the rest you need so you don't get burned out.  You don't want this to affect your health.  We can wait.  I think I/we just got a little spooked by the time between updates--I guess your communication was too good before. Wink  Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing what's in the works.  Take care.
432  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpartanCoin - Cryptocoin for the competitive world. on: July 28, 2014, 03:10:08 AM
Could we please have some communication from the dev as it's been a good while since we have heard from him.
Though I can appreciate he may have other commitments but with any coin to me its all about having an active dev and community for any coin to succeed and move forward.

Don't want to sound like a bitch but i'm sure we can all understand this.
Especially since most of us have been very patience and loyal and mined the coin from the very start..!  Wink
I second this.  I don't want to be a pain either, but it's been two weeks since we've gotten a dev update.  Morale is dropping and the natives are getting restless.  We're about to get booted from C-cex, out Mintpal quest is looking grim (at least based on voting), and apparently there's still no word from Poloniex.  Save us, oh fearless leader! Smiley
433  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do you really earn more money because you went to college? on: July 27, 2014, 06:01:20 PM
Sir Richard Branson and Warren buffet, are proof you do not need a stinking diploma, when you make bank like that you can just buy the university of your choice  Grin
Those are exceptions.  For the vast majority of people, education is very important in one way or another.  Not everyone will benefit from a college degree, but you can't just say that people shouldn't go to college so that they'll become rich.
434  Economy / Economics / Re: Can bitcoin survive without the Internet? on: July 27, 2014, 05:54:55 PM
What if someone (governments together with banks) would decide to shut down the Internet? Would bitcoin survive? Is it possible to transfer directly p2p somehow? Any thoughts? How strong this whole industry is really?

I don't think governments will be able to kill bitcoin. There are many different managements.
They might not be able to wipe it off the face of the planet, but they could effectively kill it.  They could outright ban it or regulate it into oblivion.
435  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin is a hot target for criminals and money launderers. on: July 27, 2014, 05:24:00 PM
Bitcoin's concept of anonymity is a hot target for the greedy. Its structure helps criminals do their criminal acts. They can easily participate on illegal transactions without being traced (or a high possibility of not being traced) by the authority. Decentralization also helps them in accomplishing some serious thefts and laundering because nobody has the power to freeze their money unless they're traced by the government. This is just one of the many things why merchants all over the world doesn't accept the idea of using bitcoin into their business. It seems to risky for them to touch knowing that there are many possibilities that they can be victimized by theft and frauds.

There was crime and greedy people before bitcoin also. You cant say bitcoin made them, but that its easier for them now, yeah, it probably is.
But i agree with you that this is pretty big reason why bitcoin isnt more adopted, altho i love the idea of decentralisation, some measures must be taken to protect the innocents from being scammed.

Yes, anonymity and decentralization makes a criminal's job easier. Faster adoption is hindered by these two concepts; merchants and businesses must be intelligent when they use bitcoin as a form of payment to their goods and services because there are many, many, many, greedy people in the world of bitcoin alone.
it makes a criminals job easier to get away with the stolen money but makes it much harder to get it in the first place because they cannot simply pickup a bunch of cash they need to somehow crack the password to the private keys the contain the bitcoin.
They're not talking about stealing bitcoins from people's wallets.  They're talking about how it's a lot easier to launder money or pay for illegal goods and services using bitcoin because it's harder to trace than something like a wire transfer or credit card payment.
436  Other / Off-topic / Re: Where I'd Want to Be During an Earthquake on: July 27, 2014, 04:35:02 PM
I think I'll go with very far away.  If that's not an option, then in a sturdy building under some sturdy furniture.  I've heard that you want to hold on to something sturdy, too, or else you can get thrown around a lot if the earthquake is strong enough.
437  Other / Off-topic / Re: Cheese and? on: July 27, 2014, 04:20:11 PM
To be honest you almost can't go wrong way with cheese. There are so many options and countless possibilities. You can eat it raw, you can bake it or fry it. Just add cheese to anything you eat and you will be good.
I've seen cheese commercials that state, "everything's better with cheese."  I mostly agree...except I don't imagine it's very good with ice cream...
438  Other / Off-topic / Re: SOLAR ENERGY ? on: July 27, 2014, 03:27:02 PM
Solar energy shouldn't even be in the convo at the moment.  It is far to expensive up front and doesn't return your investment until way later of in the years.

I often see this posted on social media about how we need to convert roads to solar panels.  It is a great idea....however if we were to do that to just 1 state(larger state) the country would probably double in debt and its already hard to see us getting out of this whole(USA).  Think about redoing the world...
I thought you might find this December 2013 article interesting: http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9244836/Solar_power_installation_costs_fall_through_the_floor

Particularly this part: "The cost of installing photovoltaic solar arrays has dropped to $3 per watt of electricity they produce - about the same as coal-powered plants cost to build ..."

So it sounds like the cost is quickly becoming less of a factor.
what about the amount of land required for each watt produced?  Land is not by any means cheap
Land cost is not an issue if we're talking about putting solar panels on your own roof.  In fact, doing so increases your home's value.

Obviously land cost matters for solar plants, but I think remote sites are usually chosen where land is good for little else and is thus cheap.
439  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin is a hot target for criminals and money launderers. on: July 27, 2014, 03:15:08 PM
This is indeed a big problem that's hindering adoption.  According to a recent Coindesk article (http://www.coindesk.com/real-reason-banks-dont-like-bitcoin/), the risk of involvement in criminal activities is a major factor that's keeping banks away from bitcoin and bitcoin businesses.  The potential for making criminal activities easier will also affect how governments end up regulating it.
440  Economy / Economics / Re: Anybody using online tax filling sites? on: July 27, 2014, 02:54:41 PM
Hello! I found many tax filling sites. One of the site I found is http://www.hrblock.in/. Anybody using such sites? Do you know how it works? Do the person want to send them money or can the person pay directly?

Kindly,
      MZ

I used H&R Block some time ago.  It was ok.  For the last several years, I've used TurboTax (https://turbotax.intuit.com/).  There's probably something cheaper out there, but I like their web interface.
