421  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Klondike - 16 chip ASIC Open Source Board - Preliminary on: July 23, 2013, 01:24:33 AM
What is the spacing between boards when they are connected via KLegos?

~2mm

Hmmmm...I'm designing a case for these.  Can you provide a more precise measurement/tolerance.  Thanks!

How much for your open-air GPU/CPU?
If you are referring to this:

Its $85 USD.

Where does the pi mount?

This open air "case" will be made from 15mm t-slot extrusions and will include a small plate onto which the Raspberry Pi will be mounted.  That plate could then be mounted almost anywhere on the extrusions.
425  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Gauging interest for an open-air case for Bitfury's ASICs on: July 22, 2013, 02:14:39 AM
Added support for the hashing cards via another beam and a boatload of nylon spacers.  Cheesy

Any interest in these be stackable?

426  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Gauging interest for an open-air case for Bitfury's ASICs on: July 21, 2013, 07:02:31 PM
Hey there,

Saw the case after some google'ing - think it looks great.  I also like that you're in the States, so less potential shipping problems.  Also, and I've said this at the other case being talked about - it's probably a good idea to post a throw away email.

I had a somewhat hard time making a reply, as a newbie there are real challenges to be over come first to have this privilege.  So there maybe a number of folks that got the device, and really want to have a case figured out before the units ship - but are unable to express their interest.

Just my two bits.  Any way - the open air case is clean and neat.  Keep up the great work and keep us updated.  Cheers.

Thanks.

Is there a Sketchup model of the K-16 board?

When a hashing board is plugged into the masterboard, how much does the socket add to the total height?
429  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Klondike - 16 chip ASIC Open Source Board - Preliminary on: July 21, 2013, 02:50:18 PM
With the main board resting on a table with hashing boards plugged into it...what is the total height?

MAybe you are confusing the K-16 with the Bit Fury offering?  The K-16 is a single board than can be chained with others via a jumper, and controlled by USB.
See the OP in this thread for a diagram.   Total height without the Heatsink is probably less than 10mm.

Indeed.  My apologies.

I'd like to avoid using server PSUs as they're a) not so easy to find b) more expensive typically

How wide is the case in the above picture?

That case is just representative of what the outside of this case would look like if I made it fully enclosed.

For a 19-inch rack, the case can't be any wider than 450mm.  My current design is at 535.

I could design two versions, one for open-air mining and another for rack mounting.   Huh
432  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Gauging interest for an open-air case for Bitfury's ASICs on: July 20, 2013, 01:20:15 AM
How wide would an enclosed case be? Could it be made in a standard 19" rackmount width?

Anything is possible.  The width of the design, above, could be reduced by either placing the PSU behind the boards or by switching to a smaller/server PSU.
433  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Gauging interest for an open-air case for Bitfury's ASICs on: July 19, 2013, 11:41:09 PM
These could also be made fully enclosed, in which case they would look similar to my external radiator boxes:

Excellent work! The price is very reasonable considering this is an all-aluminum case. How much do you think the case would weigh in total? Also do you think having the fans attached to the case structure only by two screw per fan would result in undue vibration in the fans (this would be more pronounced if we use very high speed fans)?

I forgot to ask you but are you located in the United States?

Thanks.  Approx. weight is 1.6kg (3.4 pounds).

The stainless steel tabs and extrusions are very heavy (unlike every other PC case) so I wouldn't expect much (if any) vibrations.

The two rails supporting the main board will be able to be re-positioned so one could mount deeper fans on one side.

I'm in New Hampshire, USA.

Quite interested as well. Would your plan be to ship them pre-assembled?

Also, quite the reasonable price and looks excellent. We'll definitely have some different case options.

Awesome.

These will either be shipped flat-packed or pre-assembled.  Buyer's choice.  Smiley

Interested. Ideally would like to have a case built and ready to go for next month, before the boards arrive.

I can build these at anytime.  Anyone want to be a beta-tester?
435  Bitcoin / Hardware / Open-air case for Bitfury miners (pics and link to FS thread in OP): NEW Version on: July 17, 2013, 11:39:52 AM
First pics are here.

"For sale" thread here.

I'm starting this thread to determine whether there is enough interest for an open-air case for Bitfury's ASICs.

This case for ASICs is a simple variation of the trays I already produce for GPU mining (made from 15mm t-slot extrusions).  For example:

The mainboard would be mounted on tall spacers (tall enough where the Raspberry Pi could be mounted anywhere underneath it).  Otherwise, the Pi could be mounted almost everywhere else on the t-slot extrusions (a small piece of aluminum sheeting would be included) .

Estimated price (for just the case, no fans, etc.) would be $110USD.  Current prices are $125 (flat packed) and $150 (fully assembled).

Comments/suggestions?

New pic to show PSU placement and GPU spacing.  Obviously, a lower CPU cooler would allow room for 6 GPUs to be mounted. Grin

I'd love to see a pic of one of these stations with 2 PSUs and 6 GPUS.

+1
I haven't acquired 6 GPUs just yet, but this should satisfy your request.

Excellent work. I am quite impressed by the quality (judging by the pictures alone) of your work. I'm wondering though if you would be willing to design a custom case for the Bitfury ASIC mining rigs? See this thread for dimensions on each component: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=250249.msg2674063#msg2674063

Yes.  Looks interesting.

Cool. Consider me your future customer Smiley

allinvain, Please send me a PM of your requirements and thoughts of what a case for these ASICs should look like.

Mining trays can now be purchased with extra tall posts so two trays can be stacked at the perfect height in order to be cooled by a standard 20-inch box fan.
