I love btc guild. I just love the feel and look of the website so I would have to say btc guild is better then slushs pool

There are several pools in between BTCguild and Slush pool as far as hashrates go. why does everyone dump on Slush pool since it is just one of the little guys?

Sad that u have to post 5 times nonsene before u can get to the important things...

Thanks to all that trolls...  Angry

nothing stopping you from posting important things in the newbe forum. you may get a better response there because the people watching it are a bit more understanding about answering the same questions over and over.
423  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [100 TH] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + UserDiff; ASIC tested on: November 16, 2013, 08:23:10 PM
Okay, this is how it works... sorta.

Starting with a found block. we start looking for the next block. The next block isn't one specific block but any of a number of solutions that meet the difficulty criteria. There are several inputs that go into finding the next block including the solution to the previous block. some of them are the Coinbase which is where the various pools label themselves among other things. and the transactions to be included. When you request work, the pool puts together a unique input for you to hash. So, even though we are all looking for a next block, we are not all looking for the exact same solution.

If another pool or solo miner finds a qualifying block before we do, the pool tells us to stop working with what we have and start working with new inputs partly based on the new block that was found. If others keep finding blocks before we do, the time duration of out round goes up. yeah, a 12 hour round sucks, but it gets averaged out by short rounds eventually.

Now, about the worker hashrate displayed. It has been my observation that the hash displayed for a worker will be wrong if you start in the middle of a round. it will be too low. The longer the round, the bigger the error. You get the most accurate estimate if your worker is already running when the round starts.

How do you make money with this? It's so expensive.

You make bitcoins, not money. duh.

But Bitcoins is money!
425  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [1200 TH] BTC Guild - Pays TxFees+Orphan, Stratum, MergedMining, Private Servers on: November 15, 2013, 01:44:53 AM

Is eu-stratum.btcguild.com down? cgminer won't connect and ping doesn't work.

Looks like the EU validation/ddos filtering server was getting slammed pretty hard by a botnet, giving it a reboot to see if it clears up any issues.

Still down for me. US one works fine.

Working just fine for me (just restarted my miners pointing them at EU, instantly connected).

They know who is in charge.  Grin

Hello,

I have 3 ASICminer blades on the way. I would like to mine with this pool.

I have a dedicated linux machine running ubuntu 12.4.

Ive already read quite a bit. but if there is any advice you can give on say power supply racking and cabling that would be awesome.

Aren't they just powered by USB? Plug and pray baby! Smiley

No! the ASICminer block erupters are USB. the Blades use ethernet. they connect to your LAN. You host a Stratum Proxy on your computer, hence why he has the ubuntu computer. Definitely not plug & play. there are other threads covering making these work.

Is anyone besides me worried that they may not make any more H boards for the v1-2 MBs? Huh
428  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [100 TH] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + UserDiff; ASIC tested on: November 14, 2013, 04:58:29 AM
How often are you getting paid out by Slush? Does it make a difference if you set your threshold higher? I'm always past my threshold and seem to be waiting a day for payout. I've got it set at .1

EDIT: Or I don't have enough to cover the 2% fee yet. I might have to do some math.

you don't cover the fee. that is taken off the top.
429  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Which USB hub to use with Block Erupters | NanoFury NF1 | BPMC Red Fury? A List. on: November 14, 2013, 01:54:08 AM
will this device work to power all 10 miners?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA3C31421041

It's 12V 4A

yes, i get 8.7 amps at 5.5 volts that should power 16 devices. Don't for get that you probably want some cooling.
430  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] US/North American Bitfury sales now open ***full prototype pics*** on: November 14, 2013, 01:47:56 AM
I have a couple h-boards I can't use.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=333237.0

These are slotted, so which version MB do they require?
431  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [1200 TH] BTC Guild - Pays TxFees+Orphan, Stratum, MergedMining, Private Servers on: November 14, 2013, 01:34:45 AM
That's rather exciting.  Shocked

Is that all you can tell or show us?

Pictures will come soon.  A few key points:

1) These are *not* next gen chips yet.  But I expect this is probably the form factor we'll see when they start using smaller chips.
2) They are powered by PCI-e connectors (you will probably have to short the PSU 24-pin connector by either soldering the wires together or using the paperclip method)
3) They're stackable.  They have grooves on the corners which will allow you to slide units to connect them together.
4) No need to buy your own fans, they're designed like a small wind tunnel.
5) 30 GH/s and overclockable through the web interface.
6) They will require a stratum proxy to work with modern pools in their web interface.

I do not know if they can be plugged in and recognized by mining software directly.

so, if we are already running ASICminer Blades we can just aim these at the same Proxy. I wonder how much throughput the Slush Proxy has.
I'm really getting tired of machines without their own power supplies. Also i hate web based miners. How many spare ethernet ports do most people have? Just another hidden cost.
EDIT: i just saw more pictures in the "pictures of your rigs" thread. it has a USB interfae too? that i'm OK with.

Last vent. I wish you'd accept US$ payments. When i look at the current value of the BTCs i've spent on hardware I want to cry. Cry
432  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BTC Guild cheating / being cheated? on: November 13, 2013, 10:22:22 PM

I don't envy this "fun" part of your job.  The fact that it never ends has to be an added bonus.

this

yeah, in a few weeks this thread will be gone and we get to go through this all over again. Even if this thread is still alive someone will bring this up again in another thread just because it is easier to ask than to look.
433  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Are miner pool thieving away? on: November 13, 2013, 10:18:02 PM
hmmmm simple answer. if your hashrate is constant, every week you will earn less Bitcoin than the previous week. This is because of new hardware coming on line. How much less you will make depends on how much hardware comes online how quickly. Bitcoin is designed to try and create no more than one block every 10 minutes. Adding hash power causes bitcoins to be made faster. the dificulty is adjusted to compensate for the increased speed. Every time someone does something to make themsleves more bitcoins you make less.

The pools aren't taking more than their advertised share. It is just that there is a lot of competition to get a bigger share of a finite number of coins.
434  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] US/North American Bitfury sales now open ***full prototype pics*** on: November 13, 2013, 09:12:18 PM
i recommend signup for a free account at ghash.io
Well, BTC Guild is working perfectly. I don't really want to change it right this moment. I got the other rig re-imaged and both are showing over 470 Gh worth of submitted shares. That's the best I've done so far.

I do like to have accounts at different places for use in the future though. I thought ghash.io is a private pool, where can you register an account?

I had performance issues pointing mine at Slush pool, BTCguild has been working perfectly.
435  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [100 TH] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + UserDiff; ASIC tested on: November 12, 2013, 07:15:20 PM
I used to mine on slush a very long time ago... Good old days.
Too bad i can't cash out the remaining 1.6 mBTC Cheesy
Minimum is set to 0.01.

I believe that if you close your acount, it will cash out the remainder.
436  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Since I can't find it or figure it out I'll ask. on: November 12, 2013, 12:55:11 AM
If not, could CGminer be hacked/patched to do this?
It would require me to write support for the most low level GBT support which I've been avoiding doing since it's a lot of work, and the demand for better solo mining support has never been big or on my priority list for obvious reasons...

Thanks, that gives me an idea of the degree of difficulty. I wouldn't expect you to mod your software for something like this. I thought maybe it was just a matter of changing the value in a field somewhere.
437  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Since I can't find it or figure it out I'll ask. on: November 12, 2013, 12:34:11 AM
Cgminer does not support adding a text identifier and will generate whatever block is generated based on the work from bitcoind/qt which will be all random.

I didn't think CGminer would support this. Is there support for this in bitcoin-QT? If not, could CGminer be hacked/patched to do this?

Thanks for your response ckolivas.
438  Bitcoin / Mining support / Since I can't find it or figure it out I'll ask. on: November 12, 2013, 12:23:30 AM
Ok, assuming that i'm solo mining by pointing cgminer at bitcoin-QT in server mode. what do i have to modify, or how do i add a text identifier in a found block like the pools do. Like a pool name. Huh

BTW, don't bother with the "it is a waste" "don't do it" comments. They are falling on deaf ears. I don't care for you opinion. If you don't have an answer to the question, don't waste the electrons.
439  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Will this Powered USB hub works for RasPi? on: November 11, 2013, 06:24:57 PM
What do you mean by "room" and what hubs can rasp pi work with? Thanks

By mentioning room, they are answering a non Pi related question that you didn't ask. They are saying that they don't think that there is enough room between each port to plug a Block erupter into each one.

As for whether or not it will work with the Pi, you might look here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=253749.0

Or, i'm told there is a list of working hubs in the Pi forums.
440  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: [Guide] Noob guide to solo mining USB Erupters with cgminer on: November 11, 2013, 06:18:17 PM
What's the Bitcoin-QT flag to sign a block?  Can't seem to find the reference now.
Thanks,
Sam

Did you ever get an answer to this? is it something that the mining software might be modified to do?
