- It would be great as well to have some kind of fidelity bonuses, like for example what we can find on moonbit. You have a percentage bonus which increase for each day in a row you play on the site.

If we did that then it would need to be paid for by reducing rewards elsewhere. What would you like to swap for?

- Also, I am good with one or two "fair" ads on the website (no tracking, no popup). I prefer the profits from ads than profits from us (or a mix of the two).

When we had advertising before unfortunately most of the adverts were for scams like cloud mining or HYIP (ICOs didn't exist then). We don't want our site to be associated with these sort of things and there isn't enough demand to advertise legitimate services on a site like ours.

- Good that you finally decreased auto withdraw fees.

Thanks.

- Are you planning to implement lightning withdrawals in the future?

Planning might be stretching it a bit far as LN is a long way from ready to be used as an enterprise solution. We're certainly watching with interest.
4202  Other / Meta / Re: Merit - internal currency of bitcointalk.org forum on: April 11, 2018, 08:01:36 AM
Why don't you give free access to buy and sell Merit for users of this forum?

I think it is blindingly obvious that that would defeat the whole purpose of the system.

I'm hoping that this system will increase post quality by:
 - Forcing people to post high-quality stuff in order to rank up. If you just post garbage, you will never get even 1 merit point, and you will therefore never be able to put links in your signature, etc.

If you could just buy Merit you could carry on shitposting.
4203  Other / Meta / Re: A Member rank wearing avatar? on: April 11, 2018, 07:51:13 AM
There are many like him. The registration date is back from 2012. There were some changes before, I read that sometime ago all avatars were removed, then were allowed again. I think there were different rules on wearing avatar and not so many restrictions as today. I guess people wearing avatars with lower ranks back then kept their avatars till now.

That is correct, there was a hack in October 2013 https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=306878.0

It was initially suspected by many that the attack was done by exploiting a flaw in SMF which allows you to upload any file to the user avatars directory, and then using a misconfiguration in nginx to execute this file as a PHP script. However, this attack method seems impossible if PHP's security.limit_extensions is set.

Although the avatar exploit wasn't used the ability to change avatars was removed as a precaution and when it was brought back later only Full Members and above could use it. So any account that had an avatar before that date kept it.
4204  Economy / Gambling / Re: FreeBitco.in - Win free Bitcoins every hour! on: April 11, 2018, 07:11:38 AM
Thanks for sharing this. It's frustrating that we can't somehow get a personal response - I emailed several times, and one time got my reward put back to normal, but after just a few hours it was halved again.  And this as the price has flatlined so the reward has increased other than at the first level.

I'm no good at gambling - just feels like pressing a button to watch my balance go to 0 I guess, though somehow I won a small amount via jackpot once?  I don't even recall playing... but there's no appeal for me to just press a button.

We receive thousands of emails every day and although we try and read them all it is not possible to respond individually to each one. It looks like your reward went back to full while we were still fine-tuning the algorithm. If you don't want to gamble try making a deposit as keeping a higher balance is the low-risk way to get full rewards.
4205  Economy / Gambling / Re: FreeBitco.in - Win free Bitcoins every hour! on: April 11, 2018, 06:55:34 AM
Is it possible to find my way into crypto currency market starting with free coins??

Freebitco.in is a gambling site that also offers the opportunity to win big prizes for free. It is for entertainment and a shot at some big wins. If you want to find your way I would recommend investing some disposable income in Bitcoin on a regular basis rather than this.
4206  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Why have the fees so drastically dropped ? on: April 11, 2018, 05:08:09 AM
That's right the fees are too tiny to measure.

0.6% I think is the rate but lets think back, yes I remember "Virtually free transaction fees" and we watched as
these fees hit $55 per transaction and have no guarantee that the same scam won't happen again from the miners who
are hosting the lightning network banking hubs.

So you cannot answer me when I point out that an LN node does not and cannot meet the definition of a bank. You switch to claim that larger nodes are run by miners but you cannot back that assertion up with any facts. Now you just go back to your incessant whining about fees and ignore that I called you out on your bullshit 'banking hubs' but continue to use it.

Explain how an LN node is "A financial establishment that uses money deposited by customers for investment, pays it out when required, makes loans at interest, and exchanges currency."

Provide evidence that "all the ones with more than 20 channels open, you know ran by the miners".

You make false assertions and then ignore it when you are challenged to back them up.

Your inability to follow a simple set of forum rules != censorship.

I don't mind rules so much but clearly here we have one set of rules for the party faithful spreading FUD
and another set of rules for everyone else so save the bullshit because I am not taking it.

I didn't say whether you minded them I pointed out that you are too dumb to read, understand and follow them.

Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ

32. Posting multiple posts in a row (excluding bumps and reserved posts by the thread starter) is not allowed.

You keep breaking the rules and that's why your posts get deleted. There are 3 posts of yours on the last page including the one I just replied to that broke that rule and might get deleted. http://archive.is/Xjoly You could never post a coherent argument that anyone would consider a threat worth censoring. Don't flatter yourself by thinking you have anything to say anyone would want to suppress. All you can do is use a false analogy. There is nothing remotely similar about a bank and an LN node. Go back and read that dictionary definition of a bank again, then read it again and again until you finally figure out what it means.
4207  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestion: Merit Phase 2 - Drain the Swamp (@theymos) on: April 10, 2018, 11:06:29 AM
I've only known this forum when I accidentally went to an event while looking for investments about new technologies. The event host raised a question, how did they know about cryptocurrecies, one guy answered this forum. The host bluntly said; do not click anything below every posts you see on that forum or you will be a victim of scam ICOs, scammers came that forum.

If this merit system is all about signature bounties, would you trust an ICO based on someones post, or his rank?

One of the things that is often missed about advertising is that value of name recognition. I remember reading a study on why people pay 10x the price for branded painkillers for a headache rather than buying the generic one that is chemically identical. You can tell people not to trust or click on the signature adverts but if you asked most people on this forum to name one mixing service I can a have a good guess which one it would be and that's the one they will most likely end up using. That doesn't really mean anybody trusts it based on whose signature it is in, it's just the familiarity with the name. Advertisers then want to choose the people whose signature get the most exposure.

We all know that this merit system is to prevent people from ranking ups based on their activity on this forum, but will it prevent the scam ICO?

theymos banned ICOs from bidding on the forum banner space auctions for this reason but I don't think he wants to get in the business of censoring what we can advertise in our signature spaces.

Before every high ranking members single out the shit posters, they should have cleaned up the mess on altcoin announcement thread section where you will see low ranking members posting- Great project!, The best platform ever!, I like your idea/ project!, This will surely moon!, posters like this should be removed for they only bumping and piling up a good post.

If more people used the 'Report to moderator' link in the bottom corner of the posts then more of them would get banned. Not that I'm any help there as I have that on my ignore board list.
4208  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [OFFICIAL]Bitfinex.com first Bitcoin P2P lending platform for leverage trading on: April 10, 2018, 09:57:27 AM
Is Bitfinex supporting the Monero's V hard fork after the snapshot date?

They haven't announced anything so probably not.
4209  Other / Meta / Re: Merit for newbie. on: April 10, 2018, 09:47:28 AM
this forum isnt very newbie friendly in general...

You guys never had it so good. We had to through Newbie Jail when I joined and we weren't allowed to post on the main part of the forum. It isn't that it isn't Newbie friendly but that most Newbies only come here because they read somewhere they could make money from posting here. The few Newbies that come here because they heard about Bitcoin and were interested in learning more about it and getting involved have no problems at all.
4210  Other / Meta / Re: Possible Merit Glitch? on: April 10, 2018, 07:46:21 AM
Is the case same here ? Maybe I'm missing on the 'reported many' part, mind linking me to one of those threads where this glitch is actively being discussed ?

It was mainly discussed in the main Merit thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2818350.0
But that's 205 pages long now!
Also discussed in https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3078328.0 and https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3121567.0
There may be more but those I can remember off the top of my head.

I thought the OP sent one merit after the other and just couldn't see it due to page refreshing stuff.Anyway,I don't know if this has been discussed before but I found something interesting while fiddling with the merit input box. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3292443.msg34351320#msg34351320

That all looks a bit weird.
4211  Other / Meta / Re: Possible Merit Glitch? on: April 10, 2018, 07:15:11 AM
EDIT : I was correct. You did send two merits one after the another. There is no glitch, lock the thread.

It has been reported many times already. Refreshing the page will double send Merits and it is also possible to double-click the send button and do the same.
4212  Other / Meta / Re: Legendary profiles of bitcointalk. on: April 10, 2018, 06:35:54 AM
Omg, that's great Smiley) I will read about that guy and add him today Smiley) Thank you.

Search for inputs.io https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Inputs.io

It'll take forever to find but there's a thread on here about a conversation being held on IRC when inputs.io was first launched and someone asks why would anyone want to start an online wallet service? The answer came back "For the inevitable 'hack' obvs."
4213  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bitfinex locked my 500 BTC account and is asking for police report on: April 10, 2018, 05:14:04 AM
a lawyer will cost me a lot of money for this case?

are there lawyers who only get payed by reward if the case is won in my favor?

That depends what country you are in. Here in the UK, there are many lawyers that work on a no win no fee basis. We also have the Citizens Advice Bureaux that can give free legal advice. If you have anything similar where you are they would probably be a better source of information than an internet forum.
4214  Economy / Gambling / Re: FreeBitco.in - Win free Bitcoins every hour! on: April 10, 2018, 04:42:55 AM
But this redeem of reward point already been so long since the first time I knew it someone already claim about the shipping and his items but there is no real proof about it. Either the claimer did not even prove to us that he already got the item yet or not. So I hope for this time that anyone can clear this thing for me, cause I do want to redeem it too, if not I will buy something else with it

I'm not sure if you are expecting people to post proof that they received a delivery here but I think that's pretty unlikely to happen. If you trust us enough to hold Bitcoins you should really trust us to deliver what we promise. In this case, achris hasn't PM'd me his user ID so I can't look into it. As these things are manually processed there is room for human error, but of course, we would rectify that as soon as we are aware of it.

Update: He has now and I'll update this thread when we get it sorted out.

So when can we expect some news on this? I am very curious about this now.  Wink {It's been almost a week}  Grin

Can you ask Wetsuit why they removed the charity donation feature? Was it not well supported or just too much effort?

My life motto has always been to "Pay it Forward" and I liked giving my free money to charity. We should all pitch in to

make a difference in this world.  Wink

Wetsuit is planning something similar but rather than a minable coin it will be a token only available from the site that gives a share of the sites profit.

The donate to charity function was not well supported but it was removed because the chosen charity (Save the Children) stopped accepting donations in Bitcoin.
4215  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: FreeBitco.in - Win free Bitcoins every hour! on: April 10, 2018, 04:30:34 AM
my strategie to maintain my free roll now is - free roll paying 30sats i buy 10 tickets. and now my bonus is 6.3361% achieved towards the next +0.00000030 BTC bonus! guess im doing it right?

I don't know any more about the algorithm than I already posted but it is different to the bonus calculation in that it takes your balance into the equation. So that 6.3361% doesn't directly correlate.
4216  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: FreeBitco.in - Win free Bitcoins every hour! on: April 09, 2018, 04:26:50 PM
This is where wetsuit and people at FreeBitco.in are going to hate me. But if you're a gambler, a fast-paced game is probably what you should avoid such as the Multiply/Hi-Lo. In my opinion lottery, which is a form of gambling, is slow-paced and you have some time to think before purchasing a ticket. And I usually buy them at the end of the week so that I can see how much I have earned that week and only spend a portion that does not exceed half of my earnings.

We won't hate you for that  Wink

Gambling is about entertainment and different people find they get that from different things. A few weeks ago I was having a heated debate in our thread on the Gambling board with some people who were arguing that people shouldn't buy lottery tickets. They just couldn't understand that some people get a thrill out of dreaming about winning the big prize.
4217  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: FreeBitco.in - Win free Bitcoins every hour! on: April 09, 2018, 03:28:16 PM
I can understand lowering the bots and they will continue to claim no matter what they get, but bots also probably won't be searching through a forum to fix their account because they wouldn't notice.

This is the bit a lot of people are not getting. The botnets buy captcha solves in bulk, if we pay less than the cost to them they are forced to stop. They have become so sophisticated now that this is the only way we can make them stop.
You don't have to spend everything on lottery tickets you can play a bit of Hi-Lo game or even make a deposit and it is all taken into the calculation.

I cant log in to my account Sad the verification mail never gets to me

Try any other email address you may have used and if that doesn't help then PM me user ID and the email address and I'll get wetsuit to have a look.
4218  Other / Meta / Re: Are you ready for 2,000,000? on: April 09, 2018, 12:49:15 PM
Congrats Bitcointalk, this is a huge achievement. I hope we see it growing in future.

I checked the website here http://dev.martinlawrence.ca/bpip/ and it is mentioned there that if a user does not sign in for 90 days, account is deleted. Is this true even if I have good number of posts already ? It is deleted or deactivated.

No, it is not true. Accounts are neither deleted or deactivated due to inactivity. Vod's site is simply telling you the number of inactive accounts by that definition.
4219  Other / Meta / Re: Activity on: April 09, 2018, 12:47:05 PM
It may be that once you hit the 14 limit, then you have to wait for 14 days if you are a prolific poster. I hadn't considered that.

It is this formula.

activity = min(time * 14, posts)

That means the minimum of the two values time (the number of two week periods you posted in) multiplied by 14 or the total number of posts.

So you signed up on the last day of an activity period giving you a maximum activity cap of 14 and then when you posted the next day which was the next activity period that cap become 28.

If the number of activity periods you posted in multiplied by 14 is more than your total posts then you have 'potential activity' and can increase activity just by posting.

If the number of activity periods you posted in multiplied by 14 is less than your total posts then you have to wait until the next activity period to increase your activity.
