4201  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to help people with Bitcoin? on: August 10, 2015, 02:50:23 PM
People are VERY lazy..... In the last couple of months I have setup loads of wallets as demo's to get people to use Bitcoin. I have also sold some of my Bitcoins to people {with a extra bit of commission for me, to cover my costs and effort}

They usually take between $50 to $100 worth of Bitcoin at the start to test it out, and then they start asking for more... This is when I direct them to other methods of

acquiring Bitcoins on their own. {DO NOT keep on spoon-feeding them, or they will never learn and you will not get rid of them} I think one-on-one help is the best way to

get people to start using Bitcoin. {There is so many ways to do it wrong in the beginning and people then lose money and turn against Bitcoin}

I agree. However from my personal experience, when holding hands, people usually keep asking for more hand holding. And the second i direct them to easy and legit way to hold their wallet and obtain BTC on their own, they just go back to buying stuff off Amazon Prime.
4202  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining bitcoins or litecoins? on: August 10, 2015, 02:33:53 PM
With the upcoming LTC halving, i do no know how well scrypt mining will do and its happening pretty soon. If you want something (a bit more) stable, i'd go with BTC.
4203  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Good Price per KWH for Mining? on: August 10, 2015, 02:28:51 PM
Hello! I've always had a interest in Mining, so I was wondering what a good $ per KWH is. In my area I pay a little above $0.07.

What do you pay? What's the best price for profitable mining?

The best price is definitively "free" electricity(of course). But for operation where you have to pay by kWh, a good price is 0.03USD~/kWh.
You probably don't need that low to ROI on a proper purchase, but keep in mind that's what you're competing with.
4204  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Antminer S6 speculation on: August 10, 2015, 02:25:46 PM
The S5+ price also dropped, quoted at 17200 yuan now instead of the original 19000 - still almost $2750.
http://shop.bitmain.cn/goods.php?id=47
(though I don't understand the chinese on most of that page the price is obvious).

Seems Bitmain is finally responding to the recent bitcoin small price dump.

I also finally just noticed the apparent "intended for rack mount" tabs - dunno why they didn't call this the S6, abet the tabs don't seem to be spaced right for a standard rack mount.

Typically i would stack rackmount units, not put them in a rack. This doesn't particularly look like something i'd be able to stack unto one another, so hmm...
4205  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: (Almost sure)brainwallet.org stole 22BTC from me on: August 10, 2015, 02:21:13 PM
There are so many varied opinion and arguments here, but the facts remain, there's a new article about people losing money to a web wallet, or a service, or such every other day.

Isin't it about time people start learning that coalescing BTC to centralized security is just lowering the security of (and probably theirs) Bitcoin?
4206  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Major defeat toward my plan to drop my bank on: August 10, 2015, 02:08:37 PM
Can you use bitcoin debit cards like Xapo to pay your bills, at least the smaller ones?

Good question. I will look into this approach.

I hope they eventually come through and you get your money back one way or another.

And you are correct for Canada, i am able to do it with BTC for almost everything. For things that do not accept BTC i can use a Credit Card, then use Bylls to pay my Credit Card balance. I can't call it 100% but i could live off 100% BTC if i earned enough.

Beside cash only or debit only local business, i can get by with only BTC, avoiding quite a bit of fees. It's pretty nice.
4207  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Don't download bitcoin wallet from bitcoin.org...maybe the website is hacked.. on: August 10, 2015, 02:00:05 PM
Perhaps change the alarmist subject on the thread (edit the OP) so as not to scare the foolish that don't understand the discussion that has occurred within the thread?

Please do, OP. I made a o.O face when i saw the allegation in the post title. Add [Nevermind] or something, if you please. Smiley
4208  Other / Off-topic / Re: Will you quit your day job to go full time on bitcoin? on: August 10, 2015, 01:01:40 AM
Definitely not. Bitcoin needs to find stability first. Don't want to see my income goes 10% down in value a day after.

It makes me wonder if it's a good thing to make Bitcoin's price pegged to the value of fiat currencies...I don't know if it could be a bad thing but it would be interesting now that 1 Bitcoin would be equal to 1 USD. Just my opinion, although I like the current value of Bitcoin. It is much higher than fiat  Cool

So, i have 500$ worth of BTC, you want me to now have 500 BTC? What happen if the US drop? I lose in BTC? The whole idea is for a decentralized system. Beside the fact what you suggest is not possible, I don't see the point or the advantage.

BTC isint a USA thing, so ... =/

This S5+ is just too big for home mining!  Undecided 3 15 amps is huge.
Hope this will not effect too much the diff.

Yyeah but then again i don't think it will. After all the efficiency isint really all that different from the S5.

yeah .445 vs .515

 no big deal

although I believe it can be pencil modded to .4

based on the fact it no longer has a string design.

I think we are not going to see the s-7 anytime soon.

I do hope they sell the middle piece of these.  a 2550gh 1150 watt  miner could work for me.

Thats a big piece for me to eat, but it could still be beneficial.
If some people jump at the 15% power efficiency gain. I might be able to get my hand on some affordable S5, maybe even some 3D print modded S5. That would be nice. Smiley
4210  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: GAW / Josh Garza discussion Paycoin XPY CPIG BTCLend xpyerr.ALWAYS MAKE MONEY :) on: August 10, 2015, 12:49:43 AM
Are you suggesting xpy.io is a scam? If so they are spending a hell of a lot of time for a couples of BTC.
OH NO, not at all! XPY.io is a totally legitimate business with great oppurtunities. Like everything in the Paycoin universe it is so good, you should invest all your money, your wife's money and your kids' college funds into XPY.io. You're going to be rich soon!

15% APR isint particularly special. Do you have any actual information on XPY.io or you're just ranting your mind off because XPY launch was a huge pump and dump of doom and tons of people lost tons of money, perhaps you included?
4211  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: SolarTeslaMiner on: August 10, 2015, 12:46:19 AM
You could pump some water in a high ground reserve and when you need power, use the gravity and water to power hydroturbine!  Grin

I laughed. Yeesssss of course.... A kinetic battery, why not?

Let me just pump 10 pool worth of water over my head, to last the night on my S5 Tongue

OMG price dropped alot on bittrex... Undecided

anyway out of that... finally i got my decens of staking coins, but i also got like 35 orphans, many of them in row as its shown on the pic:

how can i solve that? i had almost the same problem with PAYCON wallet and it could be my internet conction, but i have both wallets open and the other (paycon) doesnt have orphans so maybe its not the conection, cant be the clock because its sync with the internet, so may it be the wallet i wonder?, by the way how do i erase the orphans from my list?

thanks alot, i finally started staking!!!  Grin

I had the same. But in the end i still got my stake. The wallet keep posting stake until it confirm and you can see the stake is worth a bit more every time. In the end it got confirmed! Smiley

*snip*
Canada has an amazing policy on this currently. So i am very content with this.

Then again, it's really hard for any government to crack down on you if you have BTC and bought something online with it, sooo.

Is it that big of an issue?

Would probably depend on how sizable your salary is.
If you earn a lot yearly (100k+) in the form of Bitcoin, and spend it on a lot, you might be audited and get into trouble for tax evasion.

Ah well, that's at least partially true, if you gain marketable value in Canada you're suppose to declare it as other - trading value gain. But BTC itself has no legal value. So basically you'd have to declare the value of the BMW you'd be buying as a capital gain, yeah. Tongue

4215  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.319/GH & 0.51W/GH on: August 09, 2015, 10:13:45 PM
Fool, let me point out the blatantly obvious what you clearly have completely missed ...
Bitmain supplies S3,S3+,S5,S5+ miners, that do NOT come with PCI-e cables.
Your statement is quite clearly that any PCI-e cable is OK to run over spec.
Try engaging your brain before typing.

That's some pretty strong punch. I will keep this one on my wall as it made me exclaim myself in real life.
I don't have anything to say for or against but still between the lines of punch and kicks there's some good information there.

I'll have to check those dual 6pin cable...

Don't tell Theymos. This thread'll go straight into the altcoin forum.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/3gdad5/meta_on_hardforking_if_bitcoin_is_so_vulnerable/

That would be horrible, our posts count would be invalidated. ;')
4217  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to help people with Bitcoin? on: August 09, 2015, 10:03:44 PM
I'm not sure someone who doesn't want to take a bit of time to understand at first should try to get into BTC anyways.

I disagree. There's a trivial amount of downside to screwing up on a test.

Think about how we all learned to deal with cash. We watched, we asked questions, then we got some and jumped straight in with small amounts. I think bitcoin is no different.

I think it is and i don't think its comparable. You learn how to spend your cash, how not to spend your cash. You don't need to learn the the physical mechanic of spending cash; it is *take* and *hold in hand and give over*.
IMO bitcoin is the same. People are still spinning the yarn that bitcoin is too technical to use, but that's been incorrect since phone wallets arrived.

Quote
Bitcoin is technical, it require a minimum computer skills and a minimum of awareness to not get screw over, because it does not work mechanically like "Cash" and you need to understand the concept of how it work. It can do things Cash can't and cannot do things Cash can.
'mechanically'? Like clicking a couple buttons on your phone wallet?

You do not need to know how bitcoin works under the hood. You treat it like a tv. No clue how it works, but people use them all the time.

People learned ho w to use cards by trial and error. Again starting with small tests. Bitcoin is the same.

Quote
If the person you are talking to isint interested in learning the concept of how it works, he shouldn't be using it.
So people shouldn't use cards or cash until they understand how central reserve banking and vis/mastercard back ends work?

Quote
At least until he decide to open his mind and grasp his head around it. Sadly looking at older generation of people, no matter what you do, some people just consciously/unconsciously decide not to put effort into new things. So trying to enable it "for everyone" in its current state is pointless.
You don't seem to realize it's already enabled for everyone. Lol.
If they don't want to use it, that's fine, but the best way to find that out is to let them try. Like cards. In fact, even like cash.

Quote
When/if BTC is integrated to bank and they can just transfer funds like they do now, then only then will it be "for everyone".

If he need to do a one time thing through Bitcoin, hold hand services such as previously mentioned at OP or Circle.com can come in handy. But you can't just hold everyone's hand all day everyday, because that is what you would need.
Why would that be needed? Do you need someone to hold your hand every day to watch tv?

No i'm saying you don't need to understand how centralized money system work. You do for Bitcoin. You can't just take Bitcoin with your hand and give it to someone else. You can't just say Oops i want my money back.
I specified Mechanically, not technically or under the hood. I'm not sure you're understanding what i'm referring to.

Looking at your replies. Did you even read what i'm referring to? What OP said? Because i'm referring to what OP said and you're not OP. In fact, did you even read what i said?

You're taking phrases out of context and throwing random text at it and replying "you say X" when the text you quoted is "i say NOT x". Moving on.

I grabbed my popcorn and watching the miners  Cool Cool
Let's see which chinese miners will switch into it.

Oh noes. Not the Chinese breaking MORE things? xD
Hmm. Think about it, if all of China switched to it.
Lately I've read about that, Chinese miners wants bigger blocks. But I don't remember the source, it might not be reliable.

It's not a stretch, bigger block is a common feature of interest. But regardless. With the money the Chinese are making, i really doubt they would coalesce and jump on something so hazy. It's not like they aren't making bank already.
4219  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: GAW / Josh Garza discussion Paycoin XPY CPIG BTCLend xpyerr.ALWAYS MAKE MONEY :) on: August 09, 2015, 09:54:58 PM
Thought this scam was long over? Last I read Josh had disappeared and GAW was gone?

it's not over until Garza is behind bars. and even then... there are many offsprings now, all are entertaining to some extend.

Are you suggesting xpy.io is a scam? If so they are spending a hell of a lot of time for a couples of BTC.
