Also, I cant remember avalon6 thread I read this in, someone was requesting if someone would be able to turn off "smartspeed" and ssh login would probably be required. I offer up my services if whoever asked for that sees this post =)
I dont have an avalon6 but if ur willing to let me login remotely over ssh to one, I could figure out how things work =)

If your wanting to play with the firmware all you need is likely a RPI B or B+ .  You can flash it with the image from BlockC I put in my review - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1257327.0 .

But that should be all you need to ply round with firmware.  Will not be as fun with no miner on other side but should still allow you to modify it.

Any updates regarding the payment? Was sick for the past week so I didn't check but I'm missing the previous payout, roughly 0.03BTC and the current payout.

Last I heard we are still waiting.  That Macro has the PM's but not sure as far as timeline.

He's always came though in the past so I'm not to worried.  It has been a bit since then though, so guessing he is busy.
4223  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: My Avalon 6's are in undervolt + down clock results. on: November 23, 2015, 05:14:11 PM
Glad you recieved your miners philip. Notlist3d's video was silent, I mean the miner seem to be silent, but still he reported over 60 dB at 3 foot, its close to S7. What are your recordings?

Keep in mine mine were done with a smart phone, so like I said accuracy is not guaranteed.    My video I showed it running at 20 percent (default speed on fan).   You could make it even quieter if you went to 10 percent and your ambient allowed it.

It is not silent but still not bad I have used it for free heat last few day's in my room.
4224  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d on: November 23, 2015, 05:11:31 PM
Fedex sent my gear 1 day early. yeah baby!.

Real fast setup is good .

freq 400
volts 11.2
watts 741
 2800gh

I will shoot for lower.

10.6 volts

Nice glad to hear you got it early!   And thanks for sharing that would mean your currently have the most efficient Avalon 6 out there so far with those results Smiley
4225  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d on: November 23, 2015, 03:51:35 PM
Cleaned up thread just a little bit.  Trying to focus more on Avalon 6 information then speculation of hashrates or ROI.

Not many were effected but if you were you should have gotten a PM.
4226  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d on: November 23, 2015, 02:10:18 PM
So looking at the data that is available on Frequency / Voltage / Hash Rate raises a couple of questions?

1) The posted information shows a differing Hash Rate v Voltage so this implies that the Frequency is adjusted automatically? Is there any where on the Display that you can see the Frequency that the Miner has selected?

2) I also see that the Frequency can be set by the user, given the automatic setting of Frequency is it reasonable to assume this the user set frequency selects the Start / Max Frequency the Miner will use?

3) I assume that the Miner monitors the HW error rate and adjusts the Frequency for zero or a low number? Is there anything that shows the error rate or this process, or have Avalon said anything about how this is achieved?

Very much looking forward to seeing some measurements at reduced voltages, here's hoping that we can get under 0.2J/GH and a decent hash rate.  Smiley

Rich

1) A text box is there on the cgminer configuration page that you can change the max chip frequency.  It tells range and you can type it, as shown below:

2) See above. The new firmware I uploaded from BlockC that your setting the max frequency, does not mention start.

3) As far as frequency it does appear from looking at current in Cgminer API Log it does change. With starting on 500 chip freq it shows:  Freq[45.54]  And after around 5 minutes it shows: Freq[41.96].   So it does appear it is adjusted as it run's and changes frequency, one would assume it is for optimization.  But it does not mention this so I don't want to promise more then I can prove.

As far more specifics on 2/3 I suggest contacting BlockC or Canaan Creative for more specifics.  You are really going to need to get into contact one of their team working on firmware for good and accurate responses on those specific questions.

If someone leaves the campaign, will a new spot open in their place, or will you just close up that spot, Marco? I'm really quite interested to enroll, but the OP clearly states that there are no spots.

One problem is the neg feedback beside your name I see "Trust: -2: -1 / +0 Warning: Trade with extreme caution!".  Which I'm guessing others do to, this makes it where you cannot join sig campaign.

i dont see him having trade with extreme caution warning, its just you maybe having customed trust list maybe?

here is what i see, my trust list is in default

Trust: 0: -0 / +0

You both actually show extreme caution to me.  I won't take up a huge spot for image but link showing both - http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m25/notlist3d/Capture_zpsrwhfllut.jpg

4228  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Before i start mining on: November 23, 2015, 04:03:30 AM
Both of you guys I have advice for:

DO NOT GET INTO MINING.

It's a waste of god damn money and electricity at this point. Do not be fooled by the guise of money printers.
Mining sucks. I used to mine before the ASIC came into play as well as afterwards with the S1 miners.

Needless to say you will likely never break even unless you either have free electricity or you manage to mine with them for a bit and sell them to some sucker here on the forums for some ridiculious overprice..

I know mining seems like a good idea on paper.. Its not. Its's shitty, hot, loud and basically fruitless. These I learned first hand.

This is not really a fair impression of mining.   I have done well with mining, you just have to have the right things in place.  It's no one size fit all.

If you have cheap electricity and no vat, there is a chance.  ROI is in no way guaranteed.  I personally love it and have had good luck.   I do have a mining area so the heat and sound is not a issue.

Can I ask what is last miner you actually mined with?  Curious as to how current.
4229  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [SALES OPEN] [SIDEHACK STICK] Official sales thread for Europe on: November 23, 2015, 03:59:00 AM
Have you looked at the official support thread?

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1173963.0

Sidehack is right there is ton's of great info on install, running, etc in official support thread.   It really should be asked in there.

I do have one of the Europe Compacs as I like to collect.  I can confirm I plugged it in my RPI just like any other compac and it ran perfect.

Wow thats pretty tuff 3,5 th/s on 1kw/h on the wall.
U Guys think this might be the next generation of antminers7 Cheesy

Anyways how are your profits in the first days? you got any drop outs of the avalon 6 or does it work without any progress?
Would be great to hear about Smiley Thank you guys

As far as "drop outs" no problems.  Yesterday I spent hours trying at different frequencies to try to get a decent table.  And kinda put it through it's paces there.

And today went back to default settings.  No issues as far as losing connection or troubles with miner.  Keep in mind they used RPI's with 4.1's so they had a lot of time to perfect their controller. With Avalon 6 we get a controller that has really already been proven which is great, also we get a controller off the shelf parts make which is even better.

On 1k watt's on a wall I had no issues running in my room currently enjoying the free heat.  I'm using right around 1k watts (they suggest a 1200 watt psu though for some room).  I also have a few things on that same 110 circuit no issues so far.

Some day it will make it to my mining area.  But with testing and free heat with what is still not to loud of miner, I'm in no hurry.  Some like S5 when I tested that I wanted it out of my room that day.  As far as S7 speculation lets keep that in another thread, it's hard to compare what next gen bitmain will be we cannot even predict what next S7 batch will run at.  This thread is more geared about Avalon 6 info.

are you saying the A6 = solid ?

Yes so far has been a very good miner.  Please if you or others have not look at first page it shows most it shown through more scientific ways then my words.

But easy install that took minutes as I had the RPI kit.  I also uploaded the image so anyone can have it for easy install with DHCP, and that is all owed to BlockC all credit goes to them on image.   But from install to running multiple day's it's been a good miner.  Also sound is not bad as you will see I've been using it in my room for heat.

So far I have nothing but good things to say about it.  I look forward to seeing Phils PSU he has try a underclock via PSU, that is a additional thing that is possibly there.  I'm crossing my fingers.  But no matter what it still as been a solid miner so far.

yea I have the A-300:

http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Cool-style-USB-2-0-HUB-Charger-10-ports-with-CE-ROHS-FCC-certification/1938705_32513481030.html

looks according to the specs only 600mA per port...sucks.

I would still like to know if there is a way in general to test the max Amp per port on a US hub manually?
Thanks!

someone said (sorry don't have the proper reference handy) that Superbpag usb 3.0 works fine with Raspberry pi and Compacs.
it has seven ports with 2A per port, apparently, for a total of 70W/14A, but costs $36, similar to 10 port Anker.
http://www.amazon.com/Superbpag-Portable-Charger-Transfer-Samsung/dp/B013OK10YM

It looks like a nice hub.  Only problem is a lot of us RPI users are using 2.0 , USB 3.0 Hub's don't seem to like RPI.   Hopefully they come out with a RPI that can handle most usb 3.0 hubs someday.

Until then I will be gettin 2.0 for the most part.  Just hard to beat RPI as a controller.

As general rule if you have that warning from negatives it's instant decline.  And spot's closed ontop of that unless you bring something special make it low chance of joining.
4234  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d on: November 23, 2015, 12:47:56 AM
Yup definitely waiting for your results before I decide anything!

I just wanted to plan ahead on whether I try to get a PSU and PDU in the states or I try to source one back home in NZ just unsure what the best plan would be.

If  you need a PDU order it online.  I owe phil for pointing me onto this.  But you will find much nicer and lower priced PDU's on ebay they you normally will at local stores.

I got a PDU online and it was nicer then local stores had, and I paid much less with it being used.  So far it's worked out great for me.   If you need a PDU find a good deal online and order it.  The PSU like you said we will know more on Tuesday when phil tries out his awesome PSU.

not only the pdu on ebay I got that 358 usd retail psu on ebay.

so I paid around 225-250 on ebay for about 600 in gear.

those pdu's were really good deal.  30 amps 240  volts  built in over load fuses cheap.

If I really knew what I was doing I could  access them from a smart phone to do a hard boot. from anywhere in the world.

this was the pdu seller http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=thenighttech&ftab=AllFeedback

he sold me 2 of these for http://www.ebay.com/itm/Server-Technologies-Sentry-Switched-Cabinet-Distribution-Unit-PDU-CDU-CX-8H2C211-/140824045552?

45.00 bucks!      one of the best purchases I have ever made on ebay.  I turned notlist3d on to them  he got 2? can't remember.

as for the meanwell psu.  http://www.ebay.com/itm/MeanWell-Power-Supply-Rsp-1500-12-/191732204742?   I offered him 110 he took it.

I ended up getting 1 of them.  I wish I would have went with 2 I hesitated and thought start small.... I made a mistake.

That's one of my few regrets is I did not grab a 2nd one of those.  Amazing PDU works perfect.
4235  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon 6? Any owners out there? on: November 22, 2015, 11:30:16 PM
Interesting to see Avalon still making units and now making along the same size of ant miners. Shame both cant get a good price and also a good watt usage out them If power could be reduced on them and a good price to buy then I would also buy. Maybe when Bitmain or avalon release something that is as powerful and half the power use then id be interested.

Compare to previous generations.  Your already getting a lot more power for your electricity use.   Just look at efficiency of Avalon 6 and S7 compared to previous generations.

Most that say they are going want something more power less electricity... just repeat that and never buy a miner.   Honestly this is the current gen, just like S7.  Your getting more for your electricity already.

Sounds good.   There should be a PM somewhere about the difference of mine a bit back.

Have great rest of the weekend.

philipma1957 thanks for sharing!  I was wondering what you were going to do on setup.   Looks pretty well layed out on the board there.

I'm looking foward to Tuesday to see what it can do.
4239  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Some help here please !! on: November 22, 2015, 07:40:13 PM
exactly what notlist3d said it needs a PSU with ten PCEI plugs, each plug should be a single  PCEI Plug try not to share plugs for safely reason but pretty much you won't need any thing else  but a network cable , either be in a country that has 240 for standard power if your in the US have a 220 30 amp line installed unless you have one all ready . try to use one PSU for the whole miner . need a ISP to run it over .

tip : if you live in the US why not buy  http://zoomhash.com/collections/bitcoin-asics/products/avalon-6-3-65-ths-shipping-from-stock-in-us

Avalon 6 you don't  need a 220 line and any 1300 watt psu will do fine try to make the PSU a gold standard or better, it's cheaper, then bitmains from the reviews the Avalon 6, may even be better. it may be 1 th less speed but it's easier to hock up the other thing you to need buy with it is a raspberry PI kit they offer one for 75 $  at order time  .

just because bitmains is faster doesn't all ways mean it's better, i thought it was at one point but some of the review for the Avalon 6 either make it better or = with less issue to use it .

I'm about to buy a Avalon 6, I'm sold on it, i was going to buy a S7 but i like the Avalon 6 more, i just sold off all my old miners . but in the end it's up to you were you live for shipping etc, power lines etc, but i would look for or buy a S5 first, just to learn on then go from there .  S5 resell value is not to bad right now and the S7 replaced the S5 , if you shop you can get one for 350 US or better you only need a 750 watt PSU, network cable and ISP and any 110 line will work if your US based try to make sure the PSU has four single PCEI plugs . or ask here a few will link some nice ones for you even offer some sweet deals.

And you make a good point as far as US home miners.  Most have 110/120.  I know that's what I had until I built my mining area.

The S7 is very good for 220/240.   But 110/120... finding a PSU with proper amount of PCIe is harder for a decent price.  220/240 you can easily get a S7 PSU from bitmain.  But again you need the higher volt electricity for the PSU to start.

With Avalon 6 it is using 4 separate PCIe and they recommend a 1200 watt PSU, which is a much more common PSU as far as home market.
4240  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread Nov 11 to Nov 24 Set up stage-picks are now closed! on: November 22, 2015, 06:49:43 PM
Yes I agree we are making more now then in the past but if the price doesn't keep rising then we will end up making less.

The other problem is that it's not so easy to upgrade now because hardware is so overpriced. 1+ BTC per TH/s - nearly the same as it was a year ago, I paid ~2.5 BTC for an S4 back then. The S7 (or the Avalon) has ~1/3 of the power consumption of the S4 but even with that in mind the end result still is: I'm going to mine less BTC per each BTC spent on hardware that I did a year ago, which means that hardware would need to last longer to ROI, which seems unlikely with faster rising diff and halving.

This is part of why I like keeping some of my holdings in gear.  It by far is not a sure thing, but I enjoy it.  And it's been good to me over the years.

But S4's looking back were a really good deal.  I mined with mine for a LONG time through summer even, they were part of reason I got a mining area.  But after all that mining they hold a amazing amount of their value still.  So those who had S4's (if decent electricity) have done well I think.  And selling it eventually is the cherry on-top.
