4241  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why people keep buying DOGE? on: June 15, 2016, 12:40:07 PM
I use it to move money from exchange to exchange. Buy at say 45 sats, send with a 2 doge fee, sell at the other end for 46 sats. Very quick, no delays, no transaction backlogs. It works like a currency, unlike bitcoin.
4242  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Revolution 2.0 in France? on: June 15, 2016, 12:36:48 PM
France has an upheaval every 60 years or so - they are on their Fifth Republic, they're due for another one.
4243  Economy / Speculation / Re: I locked the profit - SOLD ALL COINS on: June 15, 2016, 12:35:04 PM
If you believe that you made the right decision by selling, then good for you.

Sold all today.  Opened shorts at 645-650.
Bitcoin is trading at 670 - 700 at the moment...

It is hard for anyone to call the top exactly - he is only about $20 out. If he made real profit on selling, good on him. Better to be in that position than holding on too long and seeing paper profits evaporate.
4244  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: MtGox - Mark Karpeles - what was the outcome? on: June 15, 2016, 02:09:04 AM
He got charged with embezzlement in Japan, and they are still investigating, so he hasn't yet been brought to trial.

Here is the latest about the case:

4245  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is the mempool being jammed solid for a few days now good or bad for the price? on: June 15, 2016, 02:03:35 AM
It's bad for the price. Everytime there is a backlog, it reminds people of the whole blocksize thing and what Mike Hearn said.
4246  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Dutch woman jailed for reporting her rape in Qatar on: June 14, 2016, 07:42:17 PM

She shouldn't go there in the first place, not without a male companion anyway. I hope she will be released from the jail soon, will go to her sweet Dutch home and will never visit again such a country.

This. People are nuts to go to countries like that. The trouble is they are greedy and are attracted to the tax free earnings - but there is always a cost, and it is better to pay taxes in a place with the rule of law and fair courts, then to try to evade taxes in a place without any protections.
4247  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: transactions are not going or very slow on: June 14, 2016, 07:38:01 PM
When the price rises the network gets congested because everyone decides to send coins to exchanges.

You need to age your coins, or only pick the oldest inputs to make up your output, otherwise you will be low priority.
4248  Economy / Speculation / Re: world economic forum cheering bitcoin, wtf happened? on: June 14, 2016, 03:45:31 PM
something is going on. the world economic forum publishes an article about bitcoin. not single bad/critical/sceptic argument vs btc. all cheering, wtf?

In plain English, in return for helping keep the network up and running, they have the chance of being given a newly created piece of the digital currency.

This payout makes the entire process — with the right equipment — incredibly lucrative. It has helped spawned a huge and surreal industry.

it is a bit disturbing that they - out of all things - do their article on cloud mining.  Roll Eyes

Here we go...here comes the Bitcoin media articles, with Joe Public surely anticipated to follow closely behind.....

http://uk.businessinsider.com/bitcoin-price-skyrocketing-june-13-halvening-2016-6

That's a good thing,  no?  If you want bitcoin to catch on as a currency then it needs to be adopted by the unwashed masses.

Boy this thread brought out the bears.

It is a good thing. Bitcoin does best when media interest is high because it brings in fresh blood. It's nice to see the technology going mainstream.
4249  Economy / Speculation / Re: What I think the Halving could bring on: June 14, 2016, 02:52:09 PM
It has gone up too rapidly, so there will be some profit taking.

But the big unknown is what is happening in China. Is this a pre-halvening pump? Or a move to get money out of China prior to their currency devaluing? If it is the first, the price will come down a bit. If it is the second - who knows where the price will end.
4250  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Australian bitcoin exchanges open the door for Ether on: June 14, 2016, 02:29:36 PM

CoinTree and CoinLoft, two of Australia’s leading bitcoin exchanges have announced new services which will enable users to purchase ether and other varieties of altcoins.

As on 13 June, CoinTree users will now be able to swap bitcoin for a variety of popular altcoins including ether, litecoin and DAO tokens. CoinLoft users making deposits will now have the option of purchasing ether or bitcoin.

Alongside with established services that have primarily focused on making bitcoin accessible to the general public, the bitcoin exchanges have now streamlined the process of acquiring ether.
4251  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Germany is crying! "PLEASE DONT GO!" boo hoo! boo hoo! on: June 14, 2016, 01:28:24 PM
Start agitating for another referendum? Have a neverendum till we leave?  Grin

A better option would be to immigrate to Australia or New Zealand. If the UK remains in the European Union for another five or ten years, then the economy will get wrecked, and the country will get swamped by Arab immigrants from Syria and Iraq. Right now the vote is too close to call... and chances for Brexit are low, as the youth are less motivated to vote when compared to the pensioners.

Actually the chances of Brexit are high because it's the pensioners who want to leave (they're thinking about their grandchildren).

Two opinion polls came out yesterday, showing Leave ahead by 6 points and 7 points respectively. I think it is going to happen.
4252  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are your favorite Bitcoin communities apart from Bitcointalk? on: June 14, 2016, 01:10:40 PM
On here you get cheerleaders, but on there, actual focus on the trading (up or down).

Cheerleaders of what? Talk

When trading, it is important not to get emotionally attached to a position. r/bitcoinmarkets is pretty objective when discussing trading, the ups, downs, sideways moves, they want to make a profit. Whereas on the speculation subforum here, you either get people who are unshakably convinced we're going to the moon, or you get pumpers, trying to entice people into a move, so they can dump on them. The subreddits have fewer pumper-dumpers and tend to focus instead on TA and Fundamentals.

I see what you mean. I don't frequent the market discussions too much, the polarised landscape in the Speuclation sub here that you're referring to can be too painful at times (similar to the politics section, sadly). Part of the issue for me is that I find the whole TA* discipline a little lacking in credibility. It seems to me that the trends can be predicted in respect of events that effect the markets, but events themselves (of course) cannot be predicted, and so the discussions are often academic only (or only relevant for those running trading bots, trying to profit within small margins of potential). Perhaps r/bitcoinmarkets is worth checking out then, if there's less dreaming/trolling and more credible analysis (including my favourite marker of credibility, someone who's clearly a capable/shrewd analyst, and yet has the humility to say "don't know/outcome uncertain")

*(technical analysis of the markets)

I agree that TA doesn't always work. But they do discuss other stuff, such as the effect of the devaluing yuan on bitcoin, macroeconomics, bitcoin fundamentals. Pumpers or people who are cheerleaders tend to get down-voted to oblivion, and usually leave, and the moderators are pretty good are ensuring valuable discussion takes place.

4254  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: which bitcoin trading platform is easy and reliable on: June 14, 2016, 12:24:32 PM
If you are trading BTC/EUR, then Kraken. If you are trading BTC/USD, then Bitstamp or Coinbase's new GDAX - though note that both have heavy-duty KYC requirements because of the involvement of USD in the trade.

If you are trading alts then Poloniex is better than Bittrex simply because it is more liquid and the fees are lower.
4255  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why we do not need a woman president. on: June 13, 2016, 05:06:57 PM
Here you go again. Margaret Thatcher didn't "try to exterminate the Irish people" - it was the opposite - murderous Irish terrorists tried to kill her in the Brighton hotel bombings. She was just trying to stop terrorists - and the Irish were just trying to glorify terrorism, because murder is part of their culture . Irish terrorists have killed more Europeans than ISIS terrorists.

What's more the Irish adore ISIS. Last week they trashed a cemetery and posted the following:

    IRA 1916

    Lee Rigby's heads away

    Free Ireland

Lee Rigby was beheaded by an ISIS terrorist and the Irish are celebrating it. What is wrong with you people?

It seems that you don't know much about anything.

Everything I've posted is true.

It is a fact that the IRA tried to murder Margaret Thatcher in the Brighton bombing (and killed members of her cabinet).

It is a fact the IRA have killed more Europeans than ISIS. ISIS need to murder about 2500 more to catch up.

It is a fact that the IRA are trashing cemeteries and posting praise of ISIS beheading poor Lee Rigby.
4256  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why we do not need a woman president. on: June 13, 2016, 04:16:45 PM
Women are emotionally very unstable and easy to manipulate. They are not equipped to be leaders.

I wouldn't claim that most of the women leaders are unstable and vulnerable to manipulation. But it is true that they were the ones responsible for some of the worst political decisions in the world. A few examples here:

1. Hitlery Clinton - bombing of Belgrade, embassy attack in Benghazi
2. Indira Gandhi - imposed emergency, arrested millions of opposition supporters
3. Margaret Thatcher - tried to exterminate the Irish people.
4. Chandrika Kumaratunga - escalated the ethnic tensions in Sri Lanka
5. Dilma Rousseff - wrecked the European economy
6. Angela Merkel - destroyed the EU
7. Yingluck Shinawatra - stole money from the treasury
8. Irma Grese - crimes against humanity
9. Queen Mary I - genocide of protestants
10.Ellen Johnson Sirleaf - failed to act against the Ebola epidemic

Here you go again. Margaret Thatcher didn't "try to exterminate the Irish people" - it was the opposite - murderous Irish terrorists tried to kill her in the Brighton hotel bombings. She was just trying to stop terrorists - and the Irish were just trying to glorify terrorism, because murder is part of their culture . 4257  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will the BTC go through $700 barrier before halving? on: June 13, 2016, 02:52:42 PM
on r/bitcoinmarkets, Emocmo made the following comment:

Quote
I think this has more to do with China Devaluing the Yuan than it does with the Halving.

If you are in China you are pretty sure that your currency is going to lose up to 25% (the figure I've read and heard) over the coming months. Inside China it will not be so horrible. But imagine if every imported item you purchase all of sudden costs 25% more.

So the Chinese middle and upper class is taking the opportunity to lock in the value of their savings. With even a small percent of one's savings in Bitcoin you can see they've already been able to lessen the shock of the currency issues that are coming.

What the folks in the West do not quite grasp is the incredible size of China. For example, New York City with its 8.5 million people would not rate in the top 5 cities in China.

So, even if a small percent of the population chose to put ANY money into Bitcoin, you will see a surge in volume like we've never seen before.

The better news is that with that kind of volume the average price per unit held creeps up. That becomes support. AND..because these people are trying to retain value vs their currency, they will only sell if bitcoin's losses are MORE than the losses they anticipate with currency.

And then the halving might (and I am not sure it will) have an impact on the price.

I think that makes sense. There is some weird stuff going on in the world at the moment. Yuan devaluing. a Belgian bank going bust this morning. Brexit vote coming up on June 23rd. Spain votes again in July (they had a general election in December but the vote was so fragmented that no-one was able to form a govt). And of course the USA has presidential elections in November.

4259  Economy / Speculation / Re: I locked the profit - SOLD ALL COINS on: June 13, 2016, 01:47:38 PM
Sold my coins today.  Bitcoin is overbought now.

I've sold everything yesterday, before the pump. Think in which condition I'm right now  Cry but I'm happy the same, I've made a nice profit Smiley

Real profits are always better than paper profits.

BTC has gone up too fast. Ask yourself, would you be buying right now? If the answer is no, then other people are thinking this too, and without buyers, it will come back down again.
4260  Economy / Exchanges / Re: New exchange practices ! on: June 13, 2016, 12:52:14 PM
Hello, i would like to ask you why exchanges like kraken and CEX.io ask for personal datas ? what would they do with them ?
I think that if we like to use bitcoin it is because of the anonimity, so don't you think that we should boycot this kind of web sites ?

It is because both of them deal with fiat. Bitcoin is unregulated by fiat has to comply with money-laundering rules.

You don't have to use the exchanges - you can buy bitcoin using localbitcoins from another individual - just note that you'll pay more for the privilege.
