It's okay here, but much harder to get right in this case (because Trust data dumps show usernames instead of userIDs). With the urgency by not just joker_josue and TryNinja to port legacy images off of third party servers before they are removed, others such as @LoyceV are also downloading en-masse the entire archive of legacy images either to talkimg.com or other unspecified backup sites. It's currently only on my server. If anyone wants to download it: just ask. The question then is how do they propose to update the links to those images they have spent the last ten or so days methodically downloading to make available for others? Scripts can only have so much reach - especially if the images are removed by the host site. I'm currently working on one .zip per userID. |

Also what's the point of saying that minimal channel capacity is 2mBTC if it's often impossible to use the channel with such small capacity? Fees weren't that high for many years. You tried to open a channel at a very bad moment. If you would have opened a channel earlier, you'd be able to use it when fees were high. I know that I'm speaking in layman's terms, but it's so misleading and user unfriendly, it's killing the purpose of lightning when you are better of (and more secure) paying on chain even with higher fees. I hate to say it, but when fees are high, you're even better off just using your creditcard. - when you open a channel, you cannot receive before sending some first Is this a feature of the Lightning Network or just the Electrum client? It varies per wallet. Custodial wallets don't have this problem, and Phoenix Wallet creates a channel larger than your deposit, so you have (sending and receiving) capacity in both directions. I don't think it's good for the LN in general if users are unable to start instantly receiving bitcoins.
I know this isn't the case for Layer 1 but think about it, imagine if you generated a wallet, but Bitcoin's design was totally different from how it is right now and you could not receive any bitcoins in a transaction before you made an outgoing transaction first.
It's a strange design choice, if you ask me. I don't think it's really a choice, it's inevitable given the way LN works. If you want to receive funds without sending some first, someone can open a channel to your node and send a payment. Let's face it: Bitcoin can't scale on-chain, but LN can't be used to create many channels on-chain either. So for mass adoption, LN has to be largely custodial. |

This number might be able to be reduced if we could find out which ones users have already changed.
Can you filter this by post/upload date? I can't easily do that, and many images are posted more than once (including quotes). The total reduction of users who updated their links so far will be <1%, so I don't think it's worth the effort (for now). Another thing I was thinking about: changing the link to the images, without the users' authorization, wouldn't that be considered a violation of privacy? I don't know. I think it was preferable, at an early stage, for the process to be done via a TryNinja script, rather than doing everything via BD editing. That works for active users, but not for the majority of posts.

Yes, of course, but show me please the proof why 6 confirmations are safe and 5 not. Is it just a "unwritten standard"? Bitcoin Core uses 6 confirmations by default, so I guess that's where it comes from. But other than that, it's more or less arbitrary. I stop worrying about a transaction much sooner |

First, how did you name the images ? Because when we upload the image, its original name is not uploaded anywhere  I didn't name them, imgur.com did. So the name can be found in each post. Secondly, if the final database will look like this https://loyce.club/other/, I don't know how it is any benefit except that we are satisfied that we have all the images saved but we can't find any of our interests. It's only useful if you know which file(name) you're looking for. Is it possible, that you can filter the images to bitcointalk threads like all the images under the WO thread may appear in the WO folder or something like that? I wasn't planning to do that, the list will be too long anyway. Also if it can also filter the image based on who uploaded it. For example, if want to see all the images that I uploaded I can just filter on my username. Don't know if such things are even possible or not I can't know who uploaded an image, but I'm planning to make a .zip for all imgur-images posted by a user. That will include quoted images. |

I installed Ubuntu on a new SSD in my desktop PC, then installed Bitcoin Core, downloaded the blockhain.

This is good news, right? I've ordered a Ledger Nano. Looks like you found your riches, good for you! Now don't go online again with that disk installed. Once your hardware wallet arrives, and after you've made a few safe backups of the word phrases, create and sign your transaction offline, and broadcast the transaction from another system. After that (don't risk it before securely moving your Bitcoin), don't forget to take a look at Bitcoin Forks. At current values, for 105 coins you're looking at $15k-ish in Forks.
Note: I wasn't around in 2010, but chances are your old wallet has no spare addresses. That means, if you send a small transaction as a test, the change probably goes to a new and freshly created address. That also means all your other backups won't have access to those funds anymore. I'm not exactly sure how this will play out, but you should check it before doing it. |

As far as I know, LoyceV decided to download 800K images from Imgur LOL, when did this happen? I would love to see some more context for this. 800K images from Imgur, were they all related to bitcointalk or what? This happened in the past 2 days. Still downloading, I reached 800k, but it turned out 200k were duplicates (I must have messed up one of the 4 servers I used). And yes, those 800k images were all posted on Bitcointalk and hosted by imgur. I didn't expect it to be that many. |

If you download an image and save it with the name that I have made bold and underlined and upload images that way on talkimg, then theymos should be able to change absolutely every url https://i.imgur.com/ with any url we wish, for example with: https://talkimg.com/imgdb/ and then all the images on this forum will be restored. That's the plan, with a few limitations: I can't just "parse the forum", that would take months. I have to rely on what I have already (so images added by editing a post won't be included). If the rest works, depends on theymos. |

Can we make the process less automatic for members who prefer to manually edit their old posts? I had an idea that you or LoyceV might be able to assist with. For instance, adding a search function for posts with images or Imgur links to ninjastic.space would make it easier for members to manually locate and edit their old posts without relying on an automated script. To add to this feature request: I've downloaded 796k images from imgur so far (and I'm almost done with all images from my archived posts). I could create one zip-file per userID with all their images. All you'd have to do is find the name given by imgur. I can probably make a list of posts too, but I think TryNinja can do that much faster (and on demand). |
