4281  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: NordVPN loading/startup time issue... [issue remains unresolved] on: December 19, 2019, 06:57:30 AM
Oh my god, how frustrating.
Indeed.

As far as I can tell, you have three options. Either look in to using OpenVPN as I mentioned above, put the VPN on your router as Welsh mentioned, or swap to a different VPN provider.
Unfortunately, you're right [thanks to both of you for the workaround, I appreciate it].

Your internet connection is fine with other apps, right? Only the NordVPN is having the issues despite your good connection and you even tested it on another network.
Yes, I've tested everything on three different networks [2 home-based networks and my mobile data].

I think it's not the system being AMD but maybe the network configures got a problem during chipset modifications.
But I'm having similar issues on two different devices [AMD based desktop and a laptop].

The solution I did is hard resetting the router itself. It's not the usual reset and plugs/unplug but you need to tick that small reset button maybe hiding inside a small hole on your router or just check your router's manual.
I already did that as well [prior to opening this thread] with no luck.

Thank you to everyone that contributed to this topic/case. It is safe to say that there isn't any solution to "directly" fix my issue so I'm locking the thread [for now] but if someone happens to find one, message me and I'll reopen it again...
4282  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: NordVPN loading/startup time issue... on: December 17, 2019, 08:39:58 PM
Wait, so the app launches instantly but is just slow to connect?
Perhaps I didn't explain it clearly but the issue is only in regards to the time it takes prior to reaching server options [no issue with connecting to any server]...
- I recorded a video with my problem:
  • Everything is a bit faster on my desktop [compared to my laptop, 2 mins] but it's still significantly slower than what I used to have on my older intel based system.

If it's failing to connect or slow to connect, then there are a couple of other things you can try.
The "Failed to connect" error [happens 9/10] is only in regards to "sign-in process [password]"...
4283  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Faucet Game payout in what coin? on: December 17, 2019, 11:27:24 AM
Having the option to choose amongst all of the standard coins might be the better choice [it tends to attract more] but the first three [on your poll] would do the trick as well...
4284  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Questions about the forum mechanisms + suggestions for topics titles on: December 17, 2019, 08:09:19 AM
I still don't know to unfollow a thread where you previously posted, to be more precise how to make that the respective topic won't be listed anymore under "Show new replies to your posts" (in case other users wrote inside those topics).
There's a workaround but it ignores topics by their respective boards:
  • Go to Profile > Ignore Boards Preferences [under Modify Profile] > Tick the appropriate board/s > Click Change profile button > You no longer see threads that you've posted in from those boards on "Show new replies to your posts.".

Take note of the following:

Be advised that by ignoring a board it will be completely inaccessible to you
4285  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: NordVPN loading/startup time issue... on: December 17, 2019, 07:17:26 AM
When I try to connect the connection always fails and the message always says something like, "password verification failed".
The CS said resetting password do the job but it really do not work much. Is this normal?
It's not but I did start getting "Failed to connect" error after using NordVPN on more than 6 devices [I have to click sign in twice before it goes through, regardless of the fact that I always type the correct password].

Nord VPN is good as far as I know. Are you using paid service or free?
I'm using their paid services [AFAIK, they don't offer free services that lasts for years].

I assume you have tried all the usual things? Uninstall and reinstall, cleaning up your computer, uninstall bloatware, removing other unnecessary apps/programs which launch at start up, etc?
Yes, I've already done those things.

You don't have to use the NordVPN app if it is causing you problems. NordVPN will work with other VPN software such as OpenVPN or WireGuard. It will take a little bit more time to set up, but their website has instructions and pre-made configuration files for you to use: https://support.nordvpn.com/General-info/1047408082/What-is-OpenVPN.htm. I actually prefer to use these because they give you more control and customization options than most individual VPN apps or software.
You could possibly consider having NordVPN on your router instead of directly on your machine. If you don't want all of your connections to be using the VPN you could potentially create a dual modem, and router setup. Running dd-wrt software on the router with the VPN on it, and only connecting to that router whenever you require using the VPN.

I believe having dd-wrt, VPN, and scheduling a reboot fairly regular is one of the more secure ways of going about this. A benefit of this is router ram gets flushed every time its rebooted.  Not only that but the VPN will always be on, so there's no forgetting to connect via the application.
Thanks to both of you. I didn't have [still don't have] any prior knowledge in regards to those but I'll definitely read more before I decide to go with one of them...

Otherwise, putting your operating system on a SSD will increase load speed.
Indeed, I'm using SSD on both my desktop and laptop.

Can you provide a log or something similar?
I can provide connection logs but not sure if that helps with my case...

I do face that long start-up issue sometimes, but that happened when my internet connection is bad. Other than that, it works fine.
Mine is consistently slow (regardless of the status of the connections, tested on three different networks).

About what longevity we're talking about like 1min+?
Launch = Instant
Loading screen = Around 2 mins
Sign in process = Another 2 mins [most of the time, I have to do this twice due to failed connection error].

If you're Windows user I believe there is an adjustment in Settings where you can pick which application will have priority to load first after Pc has been booted
That's correct but it doesn't have that much effect when it comes to mid-powerful and above systems...
4286  Economy / Service Discussion / NordVPN loading/startup time issue... [issue remains unresolved] on: December 16, 2019, 08:05:42 AM
For the past year, I've been experiencing huge startup delays for NordVPN's desktop application.

  • I had no issues with my former Intel setup but as soon as I upgraded and switched to AMD, the whole delay thing started (it's quite annoying to have a great rendering PC [somewhat] and for some weird reason, not be able to quickly load this application).
  • It takes a very long time to load on my AMD based laptop as well [I'm guessing this only affects AMD users unless I'm missing something]
  • Another "user reported a similar issue after a certain update" but mine was after switching the setup from Intel to AMD.

Anyone with a solution?

Update:

4287  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: LNSMS.World on: December 16, 2019, 07:13:24 AM
I was surprised to see that one sms costs 1200 satoshi using LN which is equal to 0,08528$.
Take note that the following things directly affects its prices:

  • The country in which you'll be sending to [e.g. for Canadian numbers, it starts at 200 satoshis].
  • Length of the message.

so why sms are expensive like this ?
AFAICR, the cost for such services has always been higher than the normal rates.

In homepage , there is no mention about the price or the (un)supported countries.
It appears they don't have any restrictions.
4288  Economy / Services / Re: [Multimedia Design] Offering a free logo/signature [1/1 remaining] on: December 16, 2019, 06:24:38 AM
Looks like no one is interested in a free logo / signature design set. The offer is still open if anyone is interested.
It's because of the way you're promoting that offer [not everyone reads the content when it comes to "designing service threads"].

- You should make it visible/obvious so it catches the attention of users that tend to scan/view this board:
  • Just change the subject field [title of the thread on the first post, in order for it to reflect as a whole] with something like the one I did on the subject field of this post.
4289  Other / Meta / Re: Post count issues going in forum? on: December 16, 2019, 05:46:16 AM
I told about this earlier that I made 2 posts (didn't knew it was 3), but why did the post number not update yet?
This [highlighted part].
- Perhaps you can only wait for the next recount to fix it...

- There are a few rare mod/admin actions which change your real number of posts but neglect to update your post count.
- Errors can occur which can cause it to drift from the real value.
- If your account is fairly old, then previous post-count recounts will have counted your MOVED: redirection topics, even though these are not counted when you make them. I fixed it this time so that these topics are not counted, undoing the previous erroneous recounts.

I did a global recount of user posts starting yesterday. Your post count had been inaccurate.
I did a recount of post counts earlier today. There are several bugs which cause the post count to drift from its real value over time. The current count is the accurate one.
I do recounts from time to time.

Did I face off with a bug here and is it for the first time?
There has been other similar bugs [to an extent] Grin
4290  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Questions about the forum mechanisms + suggestions for topics titles on: December 16, 2019, 04:32:40 AM
A Full Member / Hero account can't (technically) be nuked and by having all its posts deleted, to turn the respective account into a Brand New one?
No, everything should be done manually for higher ranks.

- Some ranks used to be immortal against demotion but that's no longer the case:

IIRC only Newbie, Hero, and Legendary members don't get demoted normally. Maybe I'll fix it at some point, but it's not really a big deal.

e.g. The following account is no longer a "Hero Member":

I also saw a user: mkr with 15 posts and Hero Member (Archive: http://archive.is/ijaTy)

Profile Link : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=216331 (Still Hero)

This measure (nuking) applies only to Newbies? And if yes, why?
Correct. It is meant for fighting against spambots:

Nuke removes all of a users posts/threads and bans them (spambots).
4291  Economy / Reputation / Re: This counts as "SPAM", right? on: December 15, 2019, 12:43:22 PM
It can be considered as spam. Just report it wherever your located it and let mods decide.
I will but I needed a reference like this [just to be sure] since, at first glance, it looked like it belongs to a grey area...

It could be considered multiposting if it's the same post with very small changes every time.
That's the case with most of his recent posts.

This one made me laugh:
I am proficient in Craiglist Posting.

You've got valid points but...

Unpopular opinion here but where they are posting and how they are posting appear to be completely relevant and on topic. The topics are each services looking for someone  - John applies leaves their deets and moves onto applying for the next position.
On topic, "YES" but relevant, "NO" [latter part of his posts]...

Fun facts:

- I checked one of his provided links [2nd one] and word for word, it's a plagiarism case...

- Author of the article is "Amir Hossein" which is a middle-eastern name but he always introduces himself as "John Kern" [looks like a fraud to me]:

Hello! My name is John Kern.

I would say that they could also be in the Netherlands and be native to a foreign country if they relocated internationally.
That's a possibility but he specifically mentioned being "from Netherlands" and with the above facts, I think a lot of things about him are fake.

Again could just be applying for jobs they are underqualified for, which also has no bearing on forum rules.
I strongly believe posting/spamming his contact information on places that has nothing to do with him, is against the rules.

They should create a Services[ANN] thread for them selves and just reference it when applying for any position.
He has a thread [I Can Create Any Web App For You And YOU WILL MAKE MONEY!] but prefers to spam his information in every thread that he applies.
  • He even included that information in the latter part of each succeeding post "on that [his] thread".
4292  Economy / Reputation / This counts as "SPAM", right? on: December 15, 2019, 10:30:21 AM
Earlier today, I stumbled upon a user [amhoba] that claims to be proficient in a lot of things and while applying for different tasks/jobs, he always includes his contact information at the end of each post. That counts as "spam", am I right [nobody asked for those]?
- Based on the following rule, it's not allowed [unless I'm missing something]:

22. Advertising (this includes mining pools, gambling services, exchanges, shops, etc.) in others threads' is no longer allowed, including, but not limited to, in altcoin announcement threads. [8]

Alright. After going through the options I m starting to lean over btcpayjungle service. Does anyone have any bad experience of this service?
Since you're considering one of "BTCPay's third-party hosts", then you might want to pay "more" attention to their "limits and cons":

Yes. Here are some restrictions.

  • No Lightning Network
  • No wallet re-scan
  • No Server Settings access

~Snipped~

Cons

  • Security concerns
  • Privacy concerns
  • Limitation of features
  • No control over a server
  • Have to trust the owner of the server
4295  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Is your Android Wallet secure? Most of the 37 wallets should scare you! on: December 14, 2019, 08:36:04 AM
Being a wallet dev myself (lead dev Android for Mycelium) being subjective is not cool. I would love to but there is people hating me with a passion because I rated their wallet one star 3 years ago. If I say something about other wallets, it better be solid Wink
You have a point. Perhaps a community rating might be a better solution [I do know that there's already a column for google play ratings but some of them tend to artificially inflate those ratings].

  • Restrict a single IP to vote/rate only once for each [I know it wouldn't completely eliminate users from abusing it but it's a step in the right direction].
  • Implement a system to allow only veteran forum users to vote/rate by verifying/publishing their reviews/ratings based on their provided "signed messages" [from the addresses that are present on their profiles here].

Ah, now I remember how this forum works. OMG. Haven't posted in years. Should I group my posts now or is the harm already done and I will get banned from the forum anyway?

Edit: deleted two posts. Bumping was not my intention.
You already did the right thing and it's quite clear that you're different from other so-called spammers Smiley
4296  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Xitheon.com - Instant Anonymous Bitcoin VPS // Windows & Linux (RDP/KVM) on: December 14, 2019, 07:26:36 AM
Hey there, thanks again for your feedback.
You're very welcome and thanks for responding quickly.

I may be misunderstanding your reply a bit. The configuration page let's you add an extra storage, change server location, choose operation system and set an SSH key, not only add an extra storage. I linked to a short guide a few replies up, please see https://xitheon.com/knowledgebase/5/How-to-buy-a-VPS-with-bitcoin.html , hopefully this clears up any misconceptions you might have.
Perhaps I wasn't clear enough but since I was referring to hardware pieces, I only listed the extra storage option (other configurable options fall under the software category [for the most part]).

I also noticed you quoted "fully customizable" but I have not stated this, perhaps we are in the wrong topic?
I should've used a better term [my bad] but I was hoping to see more "hardware" configurable options when I read about "range of hardware":

Xitheon offers anonymous VPS & VPN systems (linux & windows (RDP) or a custom image of your choice on a range of hardware & cloud solutions in exchange for bitcoin.

In either case, if you let me know which pieces of hardware you want to remove or add based on your preferences

~Snipped~

I will do my best to implement it for you
This is what I need [thank you].
  • I'm still evaluating a few other providers [from this forum] before deciding to go with one [I'll probably decide by next week]...
4297  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Questions about the forum mechanisms + suggestions for topics titles on: December 14, 2019, 06:29:11 AM
- maybe it would be helpful to have more characters available for the topics titles, as sometimes is hard to fit in the actual space with what you want to write as a title, especially when a complex name is needed.
Having more characters in the subject field of a thread might break the table [to an extent] or end up with an unpleasant look (threads displayed as two/three lines while viewed from each board [depending on your screen resolution]).
  • DdmrDdmr's suggestion, usually works but you can also use an ellipsis (... [triple dots]) instead.
4298  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Which of the following Exchanges have these Altcoins Trading Pairs/Wallets? on: December 14, 2019, 05:37:46 AM
- CoinBase
 ~Snipped~
- Changelly

From the list above for filtering, which exchanges can we rule out that fall into the next sentences: not really an exchange service or has only a few altcoin wallets or little or no altcoin trading pairs or finally you simply believe the exchange is shady and shouldn't be in the google search results above along with explaining your reasons why.
The former so-called exchange is a pain in the a** and the latter one falls under the shady category [not vouching for others on the list]...

Any feedback welcome
I'm not going to pretend that I did understand every bit of the "coding part explanations" but I appreciate what you did there...

  • You might want to consider adding another column for rating them based on how secure they are [regardless of it being subjective].
