What service are you using now for uploading
I use my own domain name for hosting: loyce.club/other/.

Quote
and what do you suggest for other bitcointalk members?
TalkImg.com - Image hosting for BitcoinTalk

Quote
I need something that dont need creating accounts and it should have the option to resize images easy when they are large, I remember one ex moderator didnt like my posts and he kept resizing all my images to minimum visibility.
It can't resize images (yet), but you can always adjust the height and width tags.

1- When you will upload all or most the the images and they are uploaded on any other site (talkimg in this case), the links for all the images will be changed, so how will they be replaced on the forum ? Will you make a database too that this was old imgur link and this is new talkimg link that needs to be replaced on the forum ? Also the image links are also embedded in quoted posts too.
I can't do any of this, but I'm hoping Admin will jump in once we have an image mirror sorted.

Quote
2- If the automated image replacing process does not work, when you have downloaded thousand of images, how will we identify that this is that particular image unless we open every image and see what it contains  Huh
If changing the links on the forum doesn't work out, at least I'll have the images. You could find them back from the file name in the post. But I doubt even 1% of the images will be updated manually, which still leaves about a million dead links.

4303  Other / Meta / Re: Imgur images suddenly became invalid? on: May 12, 2023, 05:45:06 PM
Sadly many secondary images on other posts will be lost forever... But I can't go on each of them recovering the images manually. Sad
Allow me to quote myself here:
It would be really cool if someone could write a program to move all of the imgur images to talkimg instead.  I guess that would require superuser access to the board though.
I'm currently downloading about 800,000 images from imgur, using 3 4 servers (and 1 second delay between requests). According to logfiles, I have 3 days, which won't be enough. If I get a substantial number of pictures, and if joker_josue wants to deal with ~200GB, I'll ask if theymos can update all imgur-links to talkimg.com. It would be nice if the forum doesn't lose that many images.
Server #4 is downloading without a delay in between requests, and is currently downloading 9400 images per hour. I only have unedited imgur-links, and some are messed up (for now), but at this rate, I'll manage to preserve most images before they're deleted forever.
Restoring the images is beyond my powers, but at least it won't be gone.

The quickest way is far from the safest way.

Try talkimg.com
What is that ? Does it predict the bitcoin's next big move ? Or you just being sarcastic Cheesy
I fixed my quote, autocorrect messed it up. See TalkImg.com - Image hosting for BitcoinTalk.

A very useful info in the homepage of Blockstream Satellite

"Internet Not Required
Blockstream Satellite broadcasts the Bitcoin blockchain to the entire planet via satellite, reducing Bitcoin’s dependency on internet access. Everyone in the world now has an opportunity to use Bitcoin."
That's like saying private jets reduce the world's dependence on bicycles.
4308  Other / Meta / Re: TalkImg.com - Image hosting for BitcoinTalk on: May 12, 2023, 10:12:23 AM
Given they are legacy images, downsize them to <100Kb each.
They're all kind of images, including animated gifs and large detailed graphs. Downsizing won't work for all of them.

Another problem: They're all in the same root-directory. I assume imgur.com used a database for them, because my file system won't like having that many files in one directory.
4309  Other / Meta / Re: TalkImg.com - Image hosting for BitcoinTalk on: May 12, 2023, 09:58:21 AM
Wild idea: I'm downloading Imgur images that stopped working. How cool would it be if theymos can update all imgur.com links to talkimg.com?

Slight problem: I've downloaded 398 images so far, and it takes 92 MB. I don't know the exact number yet, but it looks like there are about 800k images in total. So give or take 200 GB
4310  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to Make 10 Million BTC Wallet Per Day on: May 12, 2023, 09:47:05 AM
He just wants 10 million private keys and then finds which of these have some funds available that he can steal.
I have no problem with that. It's great if users prove to themselves that Bitcoin is secure.
4311  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to Make 10 Million BTC Wallet Per Day on: May 12, 2023, 09:31:32 AM
I need to make 10 Million BTC Wallet Per Day ( dont ask why )
Why?

Well it is impossible to give the best answer without knowing the reason why you want to create this many "wallets" per day!
My guess: sending 10 million spam emails per day, and keeping track of which one fell for it. There's not really a legit use for that many wallets, Bitcoin can't even handle that many transactions.
4312  Other / Meta / Re: Imgur images suddenly became invalid? on: May 12, 2023, 08:13:29 AM
I am going to stop using them and switch to some better image hosting.
I learned that lesson years ago, when Tinypic stopped their service.

The changes are going to take effect this Month on the 15th. That's just 3 days away, so I believe they started blocking proxies?
So that leaves just 3 days to download all broken images, or lose them forever.

Quote
I think Theymos has to think about the forum being able to self-host images if it's possible, away from using third party image hosting sites that keep changing their terms of service every day
That opens up the possibility of copyright claims, and I don't think theymos wants to deal with that.

Based on my archived posts, I'm compiling a list of all images on imgur. Let's see if I can download them all.
I think that what it is is that imgur added a new very restrictive per-IP limit on image downloads. So all ip.bitcointalk.org requests are blocked, but even many Tor exit nodes are being blocked, for example.
Challenge accepted!
4313  Other / Meta / Re: [TOOL] Bitcoin data API to use in bitcointalk as images on: May 12, 2023, 07:18:57 AM
I had to test this for a large transaction:

I'm not disappointed! Update: okay, a bit: the image doesn't always load. My guess: API-limits on mempool.space?

Suggestions:
  • Remove the empty space under the data.
  • Use GIF instead of PNG (it's slightly smaller)
  • Crazy idea: use animated gif, without infinite loop (so loop once). Show "Created by Bitcoindata.science" for a few seconds, then make it disappear until reloading
4314  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Importing an old v0.3.0 wallet.dat - is my plan sound? on: May 11, 2023, 05:02:24 PM
1. Download latest Ubuntu ISO using a Linux laptop I have rarely used. Check SHA256 on the ISO.
2. Disconnect all drives from my usual PC (Ryzen 3).
3. Use the ISO to install Ubuntu on a SSD on the PC
4. Install current version of Bitcoin Core using Ubuntu’s own software installation tool.
5. Wait for Bitcoin Core to sync to the blockchain.
I'd add a step: 5.1. GO OFFLINE. Unplug your internet, there's no need to turn it into a hot wallet.

Quote
6. Import the old wallet.dat, rescan and hope for riches!?
You may run into some compatibility issues with such an old wallet, but since you have enough backups, you'll see when it happens.

Quote
f the old wallet contains anything of value, what should I do next? I gather a cold wallet like Ledger would be sensible, including carefully stored handwritten keyword backups.
Ideally, sign offline and broadcast your transaction from another system after throughly checking everything. But don't order a jet yet, wait for your riches first Smiley
4315  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Bitcoins held by the US government on: May 11, 2023, 04:47:34 PM
Is the information published by the United States about the bitcoins it owns 100% accurate
Ask them to sign a message Cheesy

Quote
Also I'm wondering why US sells bitcoin sources in batches? I mean, the US governments are not friends with Bitcoin and they don't care about the market crash if the quantities are sold all at once!!
They may not care about the Bitcoin market, but I'm pretty sure they care about the dollar amount they get.
4316  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Lightning problem, fee rant! on: May 11, 2023, 04:40:08 PM
There was force close option, and close option, i picked the latter because it said that the fees are lower that way. Only to immediately find out that Electrum placed a fee of 507 sats/byte which was around 20€... I immediately looked onto mempool, and saw that all blocks (new and past blocks) are around 40 sats/byte.
This is one of the reasons I stopped creating my own LN channels and now use either Phoenix Wallet or custodial LN (for small amounts). I don't like the unpredictable fees, and I don't like that I (as a wallet user, I'm not a node owner) have no say in it.
4317  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Way to Send Bitcoin without Internet [Theoretical Idea] on: May 11, 2023, 04:26:34 PM
we can have a Host/mining pool integrated with SMS receiving protocol. This will help the pool/host to keep track of any messages that are getting sent to it. Once it receives the message with valid transaction information, it should be able to download it and add it to the current block for confirmation.
You don't need a mining pool for this, just anyone will do. You can setup your own service, and broadcast the transaction online to all miners.

Quote
Once the miner confirms the transaction it should be able to send back the information in SMS format to the receiver's device.
There's a problem: you'll have to either trust the miner, or download a lot of data (like Electrum does).

In the past years i have read about different ways that people spend bitcoins without Internet, ways like SMS or even Radio. And people still trying to find new was for it.
I've read about it, but it's always "theoretical". I don't think anyone without internet is really looking to use Bitcoin. I mean: for what? Home shopping or something?

Sending Bitcoin without internet is like sending email without internet: you can use smoke signals and have your friend type it for you, but eventually it needs to find a place to connect online.

I like this idea, because it can be integrated in hardware wallets without the fear that it will be connected to the internet.
Connecting your hardware wallet to a wireless communications network is a terrible idea!

we are just sending out txid or txid hash.
Even if you have a funded paper wallet, you'll need the internet to get txid-data before you can create a transaction.
4318  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: bitcoin-cli getmempoolinfo on: May 11, 2023, 04:07:26 PM
Allow me to rephrase because I think I haven't made myself clear.
I thought I got it, but I'm starting to doubt now....

I assume "size" is the number of transactions in mempool, "bytes" is the size, but now I'm confused why "usage" (I assume that's "memory usage") is so much more. It makes sense that it's very close to the maximum.
4319  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [Suggestion] LN Adoption Starts Here on: May 11, 2023, 03:55:09 PM
Managing big campaigns with numerous participants and implementing instant payment for each qualifying post can be a challenging task.
Not really: it took me 2 seconds to know you made this post. It's easy to check if it's on a qualifying board, and as long as you don't accept shitposters, it can be assumed the quality is accepted.
The challenge will be to make command line LN payments, I haven't done that yet.

Quote
it's important to note that converting BTC received through Lightning Network channels requires an on-chain transaction
It depends on what you use it for. If you're looking to HODL funds long-term, you're right. But an increasing number of services accepts LN, and some many* exchanges accept it too.

* Just not the big ones that earn from promoting made-up tokens as if it's Bitcoin.
4320  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: bitcoin-cli getmempoolinfo on: May 11, 2023, 03:45:17 PM
But my mempool says 91k TXs in size. What does this "size" mean?
I guess it's the number of transactions. My node had 74243 of them.
