4321  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 7970 vs 5970 power consumption on: January 24, 2012, 10:10:24 PM
also 7970 is still only a single gpu card. You can fit 8 cards in 1 system compared to only 4 5970's (driver limitation), so it has less up-front costs as far as supporting hardware.

Assuming it is doable to set up and run stable 24/7 for 8x 7970 on a single motherboard...

top layer: 1x iEi Atom SoC with a 1.6Ghz dual-core(+HT = 4 cores)

4 threads, not cores

btw. you have a bigger mess than me :p
4323  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Possible solution for recovering lost Bitcoin to the "blackhole". on: January 23, 2012, 10:11:46 PM
Is the system designed so that the total amount of BTC in circulation does not exceed 21m or it will always be below that figure?
From what I've read 21m is an asymptote meaning total BTC will always be nearing this number but never reaching.
4324  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Mining Strategy - Overclock or Not? on: January 23, 2012, 08:15:42 PM
All the cards that have mined at 24/7 work fine as miners but all show artifacts when used in gaming. Is this anyone else's experience?

I don't think it's supposed to happen, for some percentage, yes, but not for all, unless it is some unlucky batch or something was overheating (GPU/MEM/VRM). A faulty PSU delivering high voltages could also damage GPU(s).
4325  Economy / Services / Re: WTB vanity generated address on: January 23, 2012, 08:06:58 PM
what if quantum computing were to do the calculating? (suck it Moore's Law!) Imagine just 1 quantum computer hashing away!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum_computer#Developments

I think they still need 'a bit' of more development to do that.

Anyways, anyone interested in buying an address starting with 1BitCoin or 1BiTcoin?  Grin
4326  Economy / Services / Re: WTB vanity generated address on: January 23, 2012, 07:18:39 PM
Just a reminder - if you are using GPU(s), set back you vram frequency to stock or even overclock, me speed increases by 1/3 between 265 MHz and 1100 MHz on a 5850.
4327  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 3x7970 Mining Results. on: January 23, 2012, 06:57:18 PM

just going to throw some 7970 results in here to make the thread more inline with title.

clock:    1104/1028
volt:      1068   4x7970
watts:   1025 @plug
Mhash:  2630

psu 2x seasonic 650
Mobo:  crosshair V
cpu:    phenom x4
mem:   4g 1600

stock clocks on mobo and mem

Is this with 3x 7970?  or 4x?

I recall that I mentioned this kernel is for SDK 2.6+, sorry!
It's totally ok for this kernel to not work well for older SDK versions.
Dia

OK, managed to set it work at full speed with sdk 2.3  Cheesy

1.1 Ghash/s rig (3 instances of overclocked 5850s) would do 12345678 in about 2 hours compared to 70 days on a laptop CPU but it's still almost a week for 123456789 and almost a year for 123456879a.

I wonder who searched the longest for their address? :>
few hours is a maximum for me
4330  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Big fluctuations in total network hashing power on: January 22, 2012, 11:59:45 PM
maybe some people are testing their new Ghash/s FPGAs or pools being DDoSed

ABCPool was DDOS'd a few days ago, that probably had a small effect. Mostly it's just fluctuation though - network hashrate estimates are based on the number of blocks found in a certain time period, which varies based on luck. (or pseudo-luck)

I wouldnt say it was a ddos because similiar fluctuations happen all the time, I think it changes so wildly because of the variance of luck.

@nelisky
dont need WC with no GPU :/
and explain me, where 640 Euro is more than 720 $??
or, you dont have too.

1 EUR = 1.2922 USD

640*1.2922 = 827.008 USD

Po tej cenie sie nie oplaca, ostatnio zeszedl na allegro jeden 5970 za 1350zl, ja jestem w trakcie kupowania za 1050zl, trzeba tylko dobrze poszukac (i nie tylko w Internecie najlepiej)

No more Civilization V keys and added Humble Frozen Bundle & Witcher 2 Assassins of Kings!

Can you tell me (either here or on PM), what do you exactly look out for to ensure the account won't be suspended before following it?
4334  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] Custom Made Wooden Mining Rig - 1784MH/s - UK Only - £1000 on: January 21, 2012, 11:41:26 PM
Thank you for your offer but according to Ebay only the cards costs around that much Smiley There are 6 successful auctions over £130 in the past month with 1 going as high as £165.
And my cards are still in warranty Smiley
[/quote]

Don't forget the fees and the fact that uk is probably one of the most expensive countries in EU Wink

Not sure if you would agree to ship to another EU country (Poland) - but if you would - I'd be willing to buy just the cards - for $750 shipped.
Contact me if you change your mind and still can't sell it. Smiley
4335  Bitcoin / Mining / Big fluctuations in total network hashing power on: January 21, 2012, 11:27:24 PM
How is it possible that there are changes of total network hashing by 20-50% in 24-48h?

From what I read this can happen for a day or two after a difficulty change but from what I see it also happens before (now).
Or is there a problem with network monitors (bitcoin.sipa.be and others)

Please close the thread until someone actually receives a working unit and wished to share the results..
4337  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 3x7970 Mining Results. on: January 21, 2012, 06:14:10 PM
Did you even read what I said? It's within 5% of my calculated figures, so it is more than likely more accurate than what I calculated.

Sorry haven't seen that, either you edited the post or I;m just tired (the latter being more probable)
4338  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 3x7970 Mining Results. on: January 21, 2012, 06:06:38 PM

I would not count much on the accuracy of the voltage and current sensors, it would be better to calculate a rig with onbard graphics and then this same rig with a 7970 @ 100% load. That's assuming the CPU had same load in both cases.
4339  Other / Off-topic / Re: 1GH/s, 20w, $700 (was $500) — Butterflylabs, is it for real? (Part 2) on: January 21, 2012, 05:27:32 PM

Ok, I'm not familiar with all those FPGAs, but can someone estimate what would be the cost of setting it up to run mining software?
For 1 unit, 10 units,100 units and 1000 units, please.
4340  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] 5970s and watercooling stuff on: January 21, 2012, 02:17:41 PM
@malevolent: That is pretty much exactly the same AniceInovation is offering... just saying Smiley Anyway, where are you located? Which side of the pond? Will you pay shipping on top of that?

This is because I believe I am a more appealing customer. I am from Poland so also from EU like you and it ensures the shipment is safer and there are no customs, etc.
Yes, I am willing to pay for shipment on top of that.
