How was it with a paper wallet? If I have 10 Bitcoins on a paper wallet, I have to sent them all at once to the exchange? Otherwise the rest will get lost?

No you can send whatever you want... but that paper wallet is may no longer be "cold" storage.

By the way.. this is an example of why layer 2 is so important...  Takes a few hops of logic to see it though.

My Bitcoin account is 100% Bitcoin.

I am still trying to figure out what it would mean if that was not true.

Good point.  Then there would be no spoon.

Could you concentrate your efforts on the forks please?

There's a new post with a picture of a guy wearing a virtual reality headset and some Russian text that I can't copy paste into Google Translate.
Can someone interpret the caption?  It ends with the words Canada, Toronto 2117 but what comes before has me stumped.

Something like: First cyber dwarf mining bitcoin, toronto canada 2117

What is that picture in that article?  An old mother board with a memory module crammed in a pci slot and some burned up video card?

I'm quite surprised at all the negativity and uncertainty regarding BTC here.
IMHO BTC just went Hypodermic for a while and has now corrected back into the parabolic trend it has 'always' been in:

(SOZ; can't get the image to show here? Hopefully some who can will post it plz)

The above image hasn't been updated since the 4th, and the new 14K bottom (that aligns very nicely with the other 4 bottoms just below the top parabolic trend line) isn't shown.

IMHO exchanges need to be somehow persuaded/forced to adopt Segwit, but other than that we are looking at a an excellent buy opportunity atm.

Hypodermic...

When bitcoin first appeared I imagined a world of peer to peer payments with no central institutions. LN is most definately not that.

The graphic tries to show how funding a channel is like funding a 'hot wallet'. A more accurate description is that funding a channel is like depositing money with a bank.

I always said LN will be supported by big money. No doubt there will be an epic pump, because 'scalability is solved'. I don't like it but I can profit from it. The original dream of bitcoin doesn't exist though.

Opsec, ease of use, familiarity and so on.  There are masses of users who are not qualified to use bitcoin the way we do today.  The lightning network will add a commercial element to bitcoin.  And yes banks may end up forming and playing a part in these systems.  But your grandad needs LN to help him transition in.  decentralized and uncensorable does not exclude capitalists from trying to use the system to their own ends... in fact it welcomes it.  But it allows cypherpunks to exist right along side.

Think of the internet.  You have a massive commercial and financial foothold, and then you have decentralized networks, projects like Firefox, WikiLeaks... Monero...

There must be room for all.

How much do you think Monero Market Cap is gonna be in Jan/2019 ??

When "Multisig-HardwareWallets-Kovri" all done

Assuming we don't have a crypto wide meltdown, I would conservatively predict ~25-60 billion usd.

I think for the time being we shall limit our engagement to shitcoin exchanges and bashing TERA + r0ach

Don't forget about PeterR and jbreher.

Yeah! Don't forget about...  unnhh  .... nevermind.

you are a sport jbreher, I'll give you that

Meh. It's merely cartoon violence. I'ze been a keyboard warrior since before the internet. I can take it.

I find it interesting that the volume on Polo is so low as XMR gains so much ground against BTC.

hmm...
4332  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 09, 2018, 02:26:59 AM
ffs, when are these exchanges going to open up for new accounts again?

Is Changelly any good?

Be careful there...  There may be reason to believe it is connected to a long list of semi scammy projects, exchanges etc...  more shady stories than I am personally comfortable with.  I would use as a last resort and with small volume.

4335  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [AEON] Aeon Speculation on: January 07, 2018, 04:47:58 PM
Some say Bitcoin is gold to Litecoin silver. Some say Monero is gold to Aeon silver. Today, approximately, Litecoin is 1/50th value of bitcoin, Aeon is 1/100th value of Monero. Litecoin has 4:1 coin circulating supply of Bitcoin. Aeon has 1:1 coin circulating supply of Monero. Your trend-line may need some positive readjustment if the rebase delivers Smiley

I don't see Litecoin as "the silver" of Bitcoin. Not anymore. Ethereum and Monero are much better suited for that. And, with so many bugs and issues, Ethereum will lose it. On the other side, Monero needs more aggressive advertising.

Don't forget that Monero had a long history of sub 2$ price. AEON already successfully broke that and much more. Don't be too impatient, good things have to happen to AEON, but at the right time.
AEON is much more than silver (and Monero is much better than gold too).

Is there any article that lists out all the issues with Ethereum? I remember the infamous “DAO hack” and other stuff like Vitalik reversing transactions or something like that, but I don’t really remember seeing anything else on ETH... especially articles that dare to criticize all mighty Vitalik.

Just a couple months ago some teenager 'accidentally' deleted over $300MM value of other people ETH.  No idea if that was also rolled back.

To be honest I sort of can't believe these sorts of things have not crushed ETH as a project:

I was going to arbitrage XMR on Bithumb then I realized that BTC on Bithumb is $23500.  Sad

The only effective arbitrage I can see here is via USD/KRW; however this must be heavily regulated in South Korea creating effective foreign exchange controls. Otherwise this arbitrage would have been done a long time ago. It is USD/KRW that is out of whack here.

Edit 1: The non KRW price should be considered the true free market price here.
Edit 2: If effective foreign exchange controls is not the issue, there is something seriously not right at Bithunb with KRW fiat withdrawals.

I certainly agree that we should not expect the Korean exchanges to be a good representative of the free market price.

On the other hand I have been noticing a tendency for some rallies to be frontrun a little by Korean action.  However, this is more gut than due diligence.

It will take all my creative juices to fill this kind of order. Can't we just pay to have our memes shipped in?

I suppose so.  I mean, really I am not a bigplucker anyway.  Plus I heard Luke Dashjr was actually advocating for a 1 string banjo.

What's the world coming to?
4338  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: January 07, 2018, 06:58:30 AM
i am curious  , is there anyone who have the same trouble as me (You seem to be missing the last word in your private key, please try again ) and has solved it?

i am reading and trying for days now and i know more people had this issue

If you truly are missing the LAST word you can brute force the last in 24 tries or less.  Copy each word in the key to the end.  In other words if this were your 24 words:

organs mumble pliers eden value cause girth gossip unopened soccer juicy apology azure video daytime siblings safety drinks framed casket error buying airport axis

Then first try:
organs mumble pliers eden value cause girth gossip unopened soccer juicy apology azure video daytime siblings safety drinks framed casket error buying airport axis organs

Then:
organs mumble pliers eden value cause girth gossip unopened soccer juicy apology azure video daytime siblings safety drinks framed casket error buying airport axis mumble

Eventually it will work.  If not, then it is not the last word missing... but I think that error message is likely accurate.

Wheres all the memes? You have to keep the train going with memes!

We are all basking in PeterR's Aspergers like display of social graces.  Maybe the Mayor can meme us up a banjo.  But not a 5 string.  I want 40 strings.  And call it Banjo Cash.  I need to make sitars feel inadequate.  It's been a tiring few pages.
4340  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 07, 2018, 01:37:35 AM
That is not relevant in the least. It will make it better than it is now.

We need improvements. Before we hit $100+ fees would be nice.

Why does BTC need improvements?  If it is digital gold -- designed to be held and not spent -- then high fees that make it more difficult to use could be seen as a feature.  Plus small blocks make it easier to run full nodes, which is important to many people.

It does bother me that someone as (I think?) intelligent as you can only see this problem in 1 dimension and black and white...

That is assuming the above quote is sarcasm, and not a sudden change of heart or a hacked account.

By the way, I do not think bitcoin is/will be only a store of value... likely many of us do not.  Also it is a straw man to assume small blockers want "no improvements".  We want different ones from BCash.

It will be interesting to watch BTC development move forward.  There was a huge portion of the community pushing for bigger blocks who have now shifted there holdings towards BCH.  These people will now support keeping BTC crippled at 1 MB, as they believe that shifting value from BTC -> BCH is now the best solution.  So we have a situation where both small-blockers will be pushing for no block size limit increase AND big-bockers (like me) will also be pushing for no block size limit increase.  So I think it will be difficult for BTC to scale if Lightning Network (LN) doesn't work out as planned.

Of course, if your of the view that use cases besides "holding" aren't important, then BTC is fine as is.

I think there are many more examples of use cases, not only possible and desirable, but COMING to the BTC blockchain, or it's layers, or sidechains.  Identity verification.  Fast cheap (free) payments.  Historical records.  Wealth storage.  Legal record storage. Atomic swaps.  Exchange.  And so on...

We are not taking about taking the max throughput of the blockchain from 7tps to 56tps.  We are talking about taking it to MILLIONS of transactions per second.  And we are talking about this happening soontm.

Digital gold?  Digital cash?  Be all things to all people?  Our very conversation is proving the latter to be likely impossible.  At least on a single settlement layer.

Today's fee market is showing us a serious problem with the BTC network.  The solution is not bigger blocks.  It is found in a bigger vision.

Nothing is more decentralized than all the possible technologies coming to a blockchain near you.  You can use all of them, some of them, or none but the big daddy BTC. You can rest assured that the base layer is only as complex as it needs to be.  Not some ever expanding Rube Goldberg machine with all the attack surfaces that come with it. (No offense Vitalik) Even though its children, most likely in the form of sidechains will do ALL that whizbang stuff and more.  But not at the base layer...  down there we are safe, and pure.

Just Bitcoin.  THE Bitcoin.
