I seem to be getting some success (in terms of keeping new blocks coming) by constantly trashing unconnected nodes.

Presumably it shouldn't take much for the software to do the same thing automatically (not sure why it isn't doing that already).
4362  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 23, 2013, 11:57:51 AM
So shouldn't the zombie nodes be able to be weeded out by PoS (i.e. each node you connect to sign something which proves how much NXT they control) or this what the Hallmark feature is going to achieve?
4363  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 23, 2013, 11:51:17 AM
U could try.

Am playing with this now - btw - are the "scum" nodes okay or zombies (they keep coming back after I trash them)?
4364  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 23, 2013, 11:46:32 AM
No. Legit nodes run the same version as u.

I mean temporarily (whilst we are under attack by zombies and the software doesn't help).

Just looking for a solution other than downloading blockchains (which is *wrong* in every way).
4365  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 23, 2013, 11:43:09 AM
Zombie nodes r quite dumb. They return ur version as their. U can send them "I'm zombie" and then get "I'm zombie" in response.

So maybe a good idea to actually *remove* nodes that are of the same version as your own manually?
4366  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 23, 2013, 11:41:33 AM
When I installed 0.4.2 I could see only 0.4.2 nodes. Why?  I think at that time there was a lot of 0.4.0 nodes (including my bootstrap VPS).

My version reports itself as 0.4.2 and I can see 0.4.0 nodes along with 0.4.1e, 0.4.2 and 0.4.3e nodes.
4367  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 23, 2013, 11:06:32 AM
mine refreshed with 8 blocks in 3 secs.
now i'm at 22848 388%

Yes - similar (and I only had 1 or 2 connections initially) - I think there is something going wrong with the software when "older" blocks are being asked for (perhaps such requests are given lower priority?).

So once you fall behind then (at least as it appears to be having) you cannot catch up (as you end up being effectively ignored by the other clients you are connected to).
4368  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 23, 2013, 10:51:30 AM
May be we all need to install 0.4.0 ?  Could you re-publish it ?

The version from the link in the Forum appears to be 0.4.2 (which CfB has told people not to use). Sad

CfB can you please update it (to something that we should be using)?
4369  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 23, 2013, 10:36:45 AM
Still stuck at 22680 (688%) - have restarted a few times - a little frustrating not to see any new blocks for so long. Sad
4370  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 23, 2013, 09:08:18 AM
My client is stuck on 22680 (688%) - now what (I have already restarted it to no avail)?
4371  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 23, 2013, 05:16:36 AM
According to my client the % for the block at height 22537 is 22245% but the NXT blockchain explorer has a different block (showing 8441586.28 %).

Does that mean that the NXT blockchain explorer is on a fork?
4372  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 23, 2013, 04:58:08 AM
I am at 22511 now - what should the % of that block be?

1471133 %

Thanks - that matches so I'll just let it slowly crawl forward rather than downloading a blockchain.

I see Active peers [28] - shouldn't that be enough?

They r busy and can't feed ur node with recent blocks.

Hmm... my Bitcoin client only ever has 8 nodes which never seem to be too busy to send me blocks so I think something is not working quite right.
4375  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 23, 2013, 04:38:16 AM
It's hard to connect to other peers now.

I see Active peers [28] - shouldn't that be enough?

Although I am only on block 22506 it does seem to be very slowly chugging along - why is it so terribly slow to catch up?
4377  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 22, 2013, 06:14:56 PM
Now showing 22310 at 3394% - am I on the correct chain?
4378  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 22, 2013, 06:09:20 PM
This looks like "alpha" software to me - my client is still stuck at 22303 and doesn't look like it's going to change. Sad

Will play with it again tomorrow but it's not a good start (compared to Bitcoin).
4379  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 22, 2013, 05:51:58 PM
Restarted again and still stuck at 22303 - any idea what is going on?
4380  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 22, 2013, 05:43:06 PM
I am on 22310

Well that doesn't seem right (am still stuck back at 22303) - are we seeing multiple forks then?
