4361  Economy / Reputation / Re: Royse777’s unsound judgment on: October 23, 2020, 04:50:34 PM
If you are going to tag somebody as a troll you should at explain how them being a troll makes them untrustworthy to trade with.
I've got no beef with nullius or anyone involved here, but the trust system shouldn't be used to point out that someone is a troll (which is very subjective anyway).  Nullius's neg on OgNasty in which he calls him a scammer is fine, and he should have just stopped there.

Check my feedback history; I have issued a number of troll tags, going back to February of 2018, plus other tags that you may find disagreeable.  If you do not want to see my tags, that is what exclusions are for.
I'd never looked at your trust page before, just did, and the forum's stance on how the trust system should be used has changed a lot since 2018.  If you don't believe me, just ask Theymos.
4362  Economy / Reputation / Re: Earned Merit Race Animation - See if you ever got to top20 merited. on: October 23, 2020, 03:26:35 PM
And Ratimov is just climbing crazy to the top (in both earned and sent merit races) Shocked
Good for him--I think I've given him a few merits here and there, and I'm glad he's distributing his sMerits generously.  It's not good when someone earns tons of merit but hoards them.

I can't believe I'm still in the list.  After my last post in this thread I was pretty sure I was going to drop out of it relatively soon--not that I'm disappointed, mind you, just surprised.  I think I'll do what I should have done when this thread was started:  bookmark it.
4363  Economy / Reputation / Re: Livecoin Signature is back on: October 23, 2020, 02:50:16 PM
Ah, I think this is where I'd seen Livecoin before.  I just posted in another thread that they're one of the exchanges that has Curecoin listed (I've become interested in the underlying project that generates them), but I knew I'd heard bad things about them.

It sucks that some of these obscure altcoins are only listed on sometimes only one or two exchanges, usually based in Asia and not always available to US residents.  Ah well.  Glad someone bumped this thread.

4364  Other / Archival / Re: Deribit injects KYC on: October 22, 2020, 08:51:10 PM
Never heard of Deribit, but I assume they deal in derivatives and that's probably one of the reasons why.

i'm not surprised, given the charges filed against bitmex this month.
I don't know whether the Bitmex thing had anything to do with Deribit, but that Tweet they put out was kind of vague considering how important it is.  IMO it would have been better had they specified whether they were being required by law to gather KYC documents from their customers, or if this is being done for some other reason.  The way I see it, if a government regulatory agency isn't forcing you to require KYC, you shouldn't.

But I'm not surprised, either.  I'm pretty sure every exchange is going to be following all these other exchanges that suddenly slapped a KYC requirement on their clientele.  The law just hasn't caught up to the state of cryptocurrency yet.
4365  Economy / Economics / Re: The Real Situation :( on: October 22, 2020, 07:09:21 PM
6.Govs are printing money
7.Crazy stock markets ...when in the history of the world did oil ever have negative values ? Only now in 2020
Those two things are tied together--all the money printing and all the stimulus money that's been distributed, combined with interest rates near 0%, has caused the stock market to boom (and bitcoin too).  I'm not sure about the negative oil values, as I don't follow the oil market, but that doesn't even sound possible.

9.No matter how wins elections in USA ...America f..ked up by outsourcing their factories to China ,USA is no longer the Roman Empire
You got that one right.  Trump didn't turn out to be as bad as I thought he'd be--I figured he would be a war monger, much like the two Bush presidents, but he's been relatively peaceful as far as military action goes.  But if the democratic party had a better candidate than Biden, I would gladly vote for him/her.  It's a terrible choice of candidates in 2020, just like 2016 actually.

Ah, the US has been outsourcing labor to China and India and other countries for many years.  That's not a new thing.

13.Planet Overpopulation ... 8 billion people
That's definitely concerning, although most of the overpopulation is in Asian countries.  It's not as if there isn't enough land on the globe to support more people, but I do agree that there's going to come a tipping point where overpopulation is going to become a serious problem.

14.To many taxes ...they tell you got to pay like 30% -50% max but in reality you pay like 80% ( Small countries and tax haven countries not included )
Agree with this one x1000.  Where I live, you pay federal income taxes, state income taxes, property taxes (homes/cars), sales tax, capital gains tax....the IRS fucks you in every hole you've got, and if you don't have enough to satisfy their ravenous needs, they will make new holes in you.

17.They did not invent a vaccine between 1900-2020 for coronaviruses ...they knew coronaviruses existed etc ,do you really think that in 1 year they can do what others couldn't do in 100 years ? How about the mutations and so on ... It's going to take a long time before they find the cure ...
They don't make vaccines for every virus, you know.  I think perhaps one reason they haven't made any vaccines against any of the coronaviruses is that none of the strains have been as virulent as the current one.  And I thought there were actually some vaccines made for certain types of coronavirus in animal medicine, though I could be wrong on that.

As to the rest of your points, I don't have enough knowledge of global goings-on to comment on.  But when you say:
We are screwed !
I tend to agree with you.  The only question is when the screwing is going to come and how bad of a screwing we're going to get.
4366  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Livecoin scammers on: October 22, 2020, 04:54:28 PM
This thread isn't too old, so I don't think I'm necrobumping it.

I recently got interested in Curecoin--well, not the coin specifically but the Folding@Home project that lets you earn it.  Curious as to which exchanges Curecoin was traded on, I checked their official page and saw Livecoin.net listed.  I also thought I recalled seeing that name pop up in the Scam Accusation section before, so I searched it and came across this thread.

OP, did you ever get any resolution with your issue?  This is one of the things I can't stand about scam accusations leveled against exchanges--the lack of followup.  There's no way to tell if OP actually got scammed or if he got his problem solved.

Meanwhile, I'm interested in finding out more about Livecoin, so I'm going to keep searching bitcointalk for info.
4367  Other / Meta / Re: Where is my merits? on: October 22, 2020, 04:15:28 PM
Dude, why aren't you gone from the forum yet instead of sticking around to bitch about merits you delusionally think you should have earned?  You even bade this forum a fare-thee-well not so long ago, in which thread I replied.

You're nothing but noise.  You equate quantity with quality and expect rewards for the former, when most rational people know they're given for the latter.  Just stop it with the shitposts/shit-threads and please exit bitcointalk via the rear entrance.

Make some meaningful posts so others can support your effort by sending you merits.
That isn't going to happen, because I seriously doubt OP could put together a meaningful sentence in English without resorting to plagiarism.  Can't you see he's almost totally illiterate?
4368  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is DeFi really a threat to centralized finance? on: October 22, 2020, 02:12:10 PM
It's probably a supplement to it.
It remains to be seen if DeFi is even going to reach that level of importance--it could fizzle out entirely and not be a supplement to anything.  I don't know a hell of a lot about it, but it seems to be a platform for lending for the sake of lending in order to make an outrageous profit.  Almost everything I've heard about DeFi has revolved around how much money you can make, and very little about whether it's a good thing on its own.

What I'm pretty sure of is that traditional finance is going to rule the day unless/until there's a crisis severe enough such that multiple fiat currencies (and I'm talking the big ones) collapse, and the banking system collapses.  If neither of those things happens, there's really no incentive for the average person to use DeFi--just like there's no real reason for the average person to use bitcoin.

The financial system might have some serious problems, but it's not completely broken yet.
4369  Other / New forum software / Re: Ia it possible to stop the Project? on: October 22, 2020, 11:28:44 AM
anyone who would want to create their own forum could just use epochtalk to create it.

So with a full software package that could be used by so many comes full responsibility of building and testing for bugs and vulnerabilities hence the very long wait.
I never spent much time paying attention to the new software developments, and the longer I've been a member of this forum the more I've come to believe that the way we have it now is the way it's going to remain in perpetuity.

By the way, I'm an ignoranoobus when it comes to computers and software, but if what you wrote is true, wouldn't that mean that by the time the epochtalk version of bitcointalk rolled out it might already be outdated?

Well I don't see many people testing epochtalk now on coinbistro  for example.
That might be because people have lost faith that this software upgrade is ever going to happen, or they could just be satisfied with how the forum is right now.  I count myself in the latter category mostly.  The look and feel of bitcointalk might be dated to some folks, but personally I like it and I like consistency in website appearance.
4370  Other / Meta / Re: Voting for important forum changes on: October 22, 2020, 11:00:33 AM
Voting can be done by poll option, or with more complex blockchain solution.
I'm not sure what kind of complex blockchain solution you had in mind, but it sounds like something that not a lot of people would participate in, especially if the issue being voted on (like a ban appeal) doesn't directly affect them.  And polls are useless on this forum; Anyone with 100 alt accounts can cast 100 votes.

If we support decentralization then I don't see why we should not support some kind of voting in bitcointalk forum.
I don't support decentralization across the board on all things, but that's just me.  Imagine having to vote on every idea that gets proposed for bitcointalk, or every controversial ban, or you name it.  People would get sick of that very quickly.

The fact is that decentralization is what makes bitcoin great.  Bitcointalk, on the other hand, would end up being even more of a mess than it already is if a voting mechanism were implemented--and I think Theymos realizes this, which is why he hasn't made any changes headed in that direction.
4371  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Best Place To Store Your Seed? on: October 21, 2020, 08:51:18 PM
I heard ppl say put it in bank safety box and put it in two parts.  That seem good idea since well even if someone get access to your box with half the seed, they still need the other half.  But what if someone break into the safe and you didn't know until later on?  Or say it happens and your seed paper is gone... though that person only need to take a picture of it or write it down as taking the paper would be dumb as it would draw suspicion.  But if you lose half the seed, and say your hardware wallet malfunctions, then you are like screwed.
Dude, there are a million things that could go wrong with probably every method you can think of--and knowing how paranoid you are as far as security goes, my guess is that you'll never be completely reassured that your seed is safe.

You have to do the best you can do and hope nothing catastrophic happens.

It is quite possible to memorize a seed phrase, and there are mnemonic tricks you can learn to do it.  But I would suggest that only as a supplement to having the seed written down or otherwise printed somewhere.  I've got a Steelwallet that came with my Nano S, and I've found it useful.  It's better than a piece of paper, but either way you still have to keep it in a secure location--and that's always what it comes down to, right?

You could write a handwritten letter to yourself (or someone you trust) that includes the seed words in some order that only you would be able to pick them out.  Gang members in prison use tactics like that to get messages to the outside (I seen that shit on YT).  If you use your imagination, I'm sure you could come up with a solution that causes the least amount of insomnia.
4372  Economy / Economics / Re: PayPal to allow cryptocurrency buying, selling and shopping on its network on: October 21, 2020, 08:30:59 PM
Actually, accessing PayPal from the USA you get the following (thanks to @philipma1957)
I just logged into my PayPal account and couldn't find images like that anywhere.  What I did find is this:

But I'd seen that before, and I'd certainly heard that PayPal was getting involved with crypto.  I even started a thread expressing my enthusiasm for it back in August.

Now I'm learning from this thread that you won't actually be able to buy or sell real bitcoin....?  If that's the case, fuck them.  If I wanted a bucket shop from which to speculate on bitcoin's price, I'd use Robinhood.  I should have realized it was too good to be true.

4373  Other / Meta / Re: September/October signature campaign season? on: October 21, 2020, 07:33:38 PM
Does anyone remember how in last March there were few signature campaigns going on?
I do remember there was a dearth of campaigns for quite a while, and I actually started wondering whether the entire concept of the signature campaign was going to die off.  I assume when you say March you're referring to March 2019, right?  I can't remember what the price of bitcoin was back then, but the ICO craze had worn off and IIRC there was just a general lack of enthusiasm around that time period.

And now here we are in 2020 and bitcoin is starting to boom again.  There might be some sort of correlation between bitcoin's price and the number of campaigns/bounties, but I'm just thinking out loud and have no data to support this.  What I do know is that enthusiasm for bitcoin and all things crypto has been growing for months now, so it's probably a time when crypto businesses would be more profitable and therefore more of them are being created and advertised via sig campaigns.

In my opinion, the problem is not in the number of campaigns, but in the fact that there are almost no quality members to fill them<snip>
Yeah, that's kind of always been the problem except maybe back in 2016-17 when there were so many campaigns that most of them were filled with wall-to-wall shitposters.  Oh, how I love the merit system and what it's done.

Accordingly, pay rates are very low and I wonder how to motivate someone (especially Legendary/Hero members) to post quality for $30 or $50 a week?
A member who can make quality posts in English probably wouldn't be interested in a campaign paying that little, but $30-50 per week is a decent amount of money in a lot of countries where English is rarely spoken.  It's the garbage shitposters who are heavily motivated by that kind of money.
4374  Other / Meta / Re: Random thoughts on: October 21, 2020, 06:42:44 PM
OP, I don't understand the purpose of this thread.  And you registered your account today instead of writing that post from whatever other account(s) you have access to?  Obviously a day-old Newbie wouldn't have as much knowledge about bitcointalk as you've demonstrated, and you didn't write anything that's so controversial that you should be afraid of getting tagged.

Second, aside from the questions you asked, everything you wrote just bloats your post.  You don't need to write a history of the merit system to ask questions about copper memberships.  Just a suggestion: keep things concise.

You're focusing on the wrong thing.
Roger that.
4375  Economy / Reputation / Re: Requesting account deletion, all posts all topics on: October 20, 2020, 04:26:35 PM
Oh yeah, this account has definitely been sold or hacked at some point.  I might look into it further, but I'm not sure if it's worth the effort if in the end all I'm going to do is tag it.  He's already got DT red trust and seemingly wants to leave the forum anyway.

For the record, I seriously doubt you're going to starve to death and certainly not because of bitcointalk or what any of its members did or did not do.  What happened?  Did you get booted from a bounty or sig campaign because you're linguistically incompetent?

Depression does not end, that is an offensive thing to say just because you don't have one.
Are you trying to spark up an internet outrage brigade here or something?  If you're offended, that's on you.  And depression certainly can end, and I don't find what lovesmayfamilis wrote to be offensive in the least.  Be responsible for your own feelings, dude.
4376  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin stock market Correlation Decoupling on: October 20, 2020, 01:19:38 PM
so it look like the stock and btc go both separete ways.
And you're basing this nearly incomprehensible statement on what, exactly?

Furthermore, bitcoin and the stock market have never had a strong correlation as far as I know--but since OP is the one who's bringing this subject up, I would suggest that he ought to include some data in the form of charts instead of a few words with nothing to back them up.

Every investment asset class is more or less going up, though there are always dips in the price charts.  And right now, the reason for everything increasing in price is because interest rates are so low and there's so much money being printed and given out as relief.  You better believe a lot of that free (or cheap) money is finding its way onto the stock market, and into cryptocurrencies.  Traders are shifting their assets around a lot these days, so it's no surprise when you find that there are periods of time when the S&P 500 (or whatever index you want to pick) doesn't correlate with bitcoin.

If you're investing/trading/speculating on the assumption that stocks and bitcoin should be correlated, you're in trouble.
4377  Economy / Economics / Re: Government slowly open the economy, will it make the pandemic worst? on: October 20, 2020, 01:10:24 PM
Edit: Pics for attention only CTTO
Reference: Google pictures
FYI, please don't just pick images off of Google just to make your post look more like a shitty mainstream media article.  It just bloats your post and the images aren't necessary.

Second, the world you're describing sounds nothing like mine, which makes me think this might be more appropriate for a local board--unless you at least give us some idea of where in the world you're talking about.  I'm not asking that you dox yourself, but unless I missed it (I didn't read every word OP wrote, because his grammar is so bad) you didn't mention what country you're in.

Third, as far as the topic goes, fuck the pandemic.  The virus is nowhere near as deadly as its being portrayed in the media, and we've got to get on with our lives, coronavirus or not.  The world can't be shut down indefinitely for an outbreak of a virus that's closer to the common cold than it is Ebola or Smallpox.  Politicians should be listening to the entire scientific community, not just advisors.
4378  Other / Meta / Re: Why is there no Technical board in the Altcoin Section? on: October 20, 2020, 11:57:06 AM
The entire series of altcoin sections plays second fiddle to all the other bitcoin-related ones.  Always has, probably always will, and I'm pretty sure Theymos wants it exactly that way.  I think he was throwing the altcoiners a bone by creating the altcoins sections, and I also think that the ones he created are all there are ever going to be.

If you're interested in a particular altcoin and its development, most have links on their websites to some sort of discussion community--and if there isn't anything like that on the altcoin's website, it probably means the coins is dead or dying.  In any case, I don't think we need any more altcoin stuff on bitcointalk, because any new sections would likely be taken over by shitposters within minutes of their creation.  Bounty hunters tend to flock to Altcoin Discussion/Speculation in case you haven't noticed, and I'm sure they'd welcome another board to spam to death.
4379  Other / Meta / Re: Gangs of BitcoinTalk :) on: October 20, 2020, 09:34:37 AM
Meanwhile, I updated a bit the description of Cult of Lauda, as the recent events required an update of this (sadly) leader-less gang:
I think that was the "gang" that started all this gang stuff, and it never really even was one--so now that Lauda is gone from the forum, bitcointalk is a gang-free forum.

Just as well, too, since dividing members up into who they allied themselves with was a very divisive thing and not a positive one by any means.
4380  Economy / Reputation / Re: Goodbye, world! on: October 19, 2020, 06:12:10 PM
Well, nothing's ever permanent in life so I shan't shed a tear if Lauda voluntarily chooses to leave the forum.  He/she hasn't been very active for some time now, and I'm not exactly shocked by this announcement.

Good luck wherever your soul lands next, Lauda.  You supported me for a while when I was new on DT and I always appreciated that.

But WOW.  Think about how many drama threads that Lauda was the center of.  I think there used to be a compilation somewhere, and that was a long time ago, and I'm sure it's grown since I saw it.  Guess all of that is coming to a screeching and generally unexpected halt, and all the Lauda haters can rejoice.  But we'll see.
