4381  Economy / Lending / Re: Lightning Network Lenders' (and borrowers) discussion thread. on: April 16, 2020, 10:46:33 PM
I can't find anything that says it is, looks pretty new though... Potentially not the first time I've heard the name so they may have rebranded or the other one I've heard may no longer exist.
4382  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Very laggy/choppy running/syncing of Bitcoin Core 0.19.1 on VMware Workstation 1 on: April 16, 2020, 08:44:48 PM
Yeah I seem to remember mine slowing down around 16.8% (I think was when I spotted it) so you're probably experiencing the same thing?

What's the estimated % increase per hour? If you can't see it now click the bar at the bottom and it should appear.
4383  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Very laggy/choppy running/syncing of Bitcoin Core 0.19.1 on VMware Workstation 1 on: April 16, 2020, 08:12:02 PM
Are you still in your initial sync (is there a bar at the bottom or something that tells you how many blocks are left)?

The chain always slows down as blocks become more full and bitcoin became more adopted (notably: 2013, 2015, 2017)  and doesn't really speed up after then. You may want to check how far your hard drive access speeds go too (by checking taskmanager).
4384  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [Challenge] 1 btc to the first to crack this on: April 16, 2020, 01:36:43 PM
You'll probably have to provide a wordlist if you want people to use one or suggest how many characters you might have used at the time of creating the password...

A lot of prepwned passwords can also be downloaded and scanned against this but they won't be as good as a wordlist from you op.
4385  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [Challenge] 1 btc to the first to crack this on: April 16, 2020, 01:14:18 PM
Are all these the same person? I'm sure there's been 4 of these threads over the past 2 weeks...
4386  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: So I'm assuming I'm fucked on this one right? on: April 16, 2020, 02:04:56 AM
If you have no idea of any private keys, mnemonic seed or non watching only wallet file then yeah you're not getting it back. Watching only for cold storage works eitha part of the wallet that still holds all information too (one offline machine with keys, one online watching only one).

A quick Google search brought me here: https://github.com/Coldcard/firmware/blob/master/docs/bitcoin-core-usage.md
4388  Economy / Economics / Re: China will rule world as economy king after crisis end? on: April 15, 2020, 04:02:32 PM
If we're talking about gdp, China have a far way to go.

It might be important to note that I think apple are moving taxable operations back to the US from the Irish Republic so we might see their gdp go up quite a bit if other companies follow too.

China always had a high number of exports before now, everything used to be produced in China and since they became in to getting more money (or having their reputation drop) more things I've noticed here are being assembled in the EU from being printed in China, Bangladesh or Thailand.
4389  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Help! Bitcoins blocked on Electrum since 14 March 2020!! on: April 15, 2020, 12:02:37 PM
Can you check the bottom left corner too? Does it say not connected or synchronising? There may be a connectivity issue that causes this too (although it may come up as unverified if so (instead of unconfirmed)?
4390  Economy / Economics / Re: USD will lose its status of being reserve currency? I am scared. on: April 14, 2020, 10:45:32 PM
Countries can experience prosperity, and after that experience sunset,

I'd call it more an afternoon or a plateu rather than an actual decline. Most of Europe that have been the standard have remained pretty prosperous for the past (almost) thousand years.

A lot of the main riches of europe still reside in the UK, France, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy (the UK and Italy were both initially prosperous due to The Holy Roman Empire and both are still doing pretty well).

UK's gdp per capita is very close to the US, ratio is currently ~7:5.

4392  Other / Off-topic / Re: Paying whatever you can salvage to blow my head off cause life's a bitch. on: April 14, 2020, 10:01:33 PM
Because literally nothing can go right because i constantly feel like trash and have been treated like trash by everyone around me and i cant find a way to get up $30 to buy food and shit we need to save my life. My mom and dad are getting $2400 for the stimulus checks and are the reason I'm not getting one because they claimed me on there income tax and won't help period. Life is just utter shit and I'm tired of feeling this way and tired of feeling alone and lost.

You not got food banks or any sort of unemployment benefit you could claim?

Did you have an earning before this, how were they able to claim what was yours?

If you need food and can't find a food bank and have nothing to lose, think of another way you could get it... See if there's something you could earn, a friend that could gift or lend you something....

Trust me I'm not going to deprive anyone of anything good by offing myself. They'll either be indifferent or glad.

I used to think the same, but there's always someone you forget... A lot of people recognise the negative attitudes others have towards them better than the positive, that is classic human behaviour.

If you need urgent help, search for a hotline or go here and find one: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_suicide_crisis_lines

Meanwhile, you should. Begin to attempt to turn suicide into a coping strategy rather than an immediate action. How do you know death isn't worse anyway, and then there's no escape from it?

But if you know you can always have to power to end it then why end it now, why not see if you can get help and contact someone who does care and wait on it. You might harm more people by ending it than you'll save and you also won't be here to help them or anyone else...

If this woman's a friend or you have relatives you'd consider friends why would you want to deprive them of any happiness you might bring them just because you don't feel the same.

disclaimer: not licensed or trained in crisis prevention - dunno if I need a disclaimer or not
4394  Economy / Economics / Re: USD will lose its status of being reserve currency? I am scared. on: April 14, 2020, 09:24:11 PM
Have you got a stake in the dollar?

The other world reserve currencies are still doing pretty well after no longer being considered a world reserve currency. It may even flip between euro and dollar or another currency (yen or yuan)... I don't think it's delisting of being a world reserve currency would mean much.

I don't know how inflation is tracked there but both here and the US its targeted to hit 1.7% and that number is determined here by both the central bank and the office of national statistics in different ways.
4395  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: otc trader on: April 14, 2020, 08:37:06 PM
Your topic is probably better off being moved to the currency exchange here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=53.0

(you can find the move topic at the bottom left of this page).
4396  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Margin trading and liquidation on: April 14, 2020, 08:18:17 PM
I haven't used coinbase for margin trading but they probably work a bit like binance.

You take out a loan of $10,000 on your current $10,000 and your funds will be liequidated normally probably a bit above half of the actual value (I.E if you put $10,000 in and btc price halves then you'll be liquidated). You'll likely be given a warning email just before you're about to be liquidated and told to add funds to your account. If you are about to be liquidated, you can either pull out whatever you have left or try to add margin to bring up your liquidation and bankruptcy price.

I wouldn't suggest leverage trading without reading up on it, you can easily have everything liquidated.
4397  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: throwing heavy, regarding BTC stability and deflationery nature on: April 14, 2020, 01:55:30 AM
Welcome to the forum!

I'm starting to think the idea of inflation is merely a psychological venture to make it look like somethings booming and your wealth is growing when in actuality it may not be...I'm not sure how far I'm actually willing to take this but it'll be interesting when bitcoin rises further how people will handle not seeing exponential growth in things such as interest on btc but still see bitcoin ascend compared to other assets (if it keeps going hypothetically of course).

4398  Economy / Economics / Re: US potential Recession and its effect on Cryptocurrency on: April 13, 2020, 08:12:44 PM
I think there are two mine ideologies with crypto:
1. It gets treated like cash
2. It gets treated like gold
Cash and Gold, never gets old. Most probably bitcoin is treated that way because it can be both, a currency and a store of value, maybe that is why crypto is in demand right now. I like seeing people having it as both it feels like we are getting much of what we wanted in the first place, we didn't even ask bitcoin to reach $20K right? Or did we?

If it's treated like gold we'll probably see quite a fall when the recession hits
If it's treated like cash, cash is seen as a bit of a guarenteed investment so bitcoin will be in good steadings...
I think if people treat bitcoin more as a gold then probably there would be a higher price resistance because in times like this people are fearful and they are more likely to hoard it. Otherwise, if treated like cash (assume that we already have plenty of merchant accepting bitcoin) people holding bitcoin would not hesitate to spend it no matter what the price is.

I also forgot that unlike gold, and like currency, bitcoin is divisible.

People might want to go into it when there's hyperinflation in their current currency since it can be decided for things like croceriea and electric, they don't need some sort of token or to try to melt down gold into smaller grains...
4399  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 5G & Bitcoin Risks? on: April 13, 2020, 07:01:59 PM
Current cell towers already have cpus? There are fewer towers due to frequencies but 5g might not need as powerful cpus either per tower...

Most data is encrypted end to end too... WhatsApp is encrypted with only the sender, receiver, server, and whoever the server distributes it to. Censoring private messages is nothing western governments should really tolerate.

The 5glte, 5g+, 5g super high performance may come out, but I don't know how likely it is to not have a continuously evolving set of standards..

In the UK 5g with Vodafone started at about 40 mbps and three at about 20, already Vodafone has advanced to 150mbps so I imaging this'll just continue. The more towers the better the coverage is probably the way they'll go, 5g compatible devices are compatible up to 10gbps and there may be a point where it needs extending further but for now that isn't necessary.
