441  Other / Meta / Re: Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ on: August 05, 2017, 04:15:13 PM
Hello,

Can I change my sig line to:

Quote
Kanopool - The only pool with a 100% fee - "We stole $48k from our users!"

I realize this is an inflammatory statement, but it's based on Kano's remarks regarding unpaid 'dust' outlined in the thread below.

Hello Bitmain,

If you confirm my miner payment and send me the product I paid for a month ago I'll happily take back all the terrible things I've said about you.

I'll even keep hashing with Antpool, just to piss off Kano.

Thanks.

[ UPDATE ] Bitmain did finally confirm my payment.  Yay!

[ UPDATE TO THE UPDATE ] Bitmain has 'found my money' but won't confirm that I paid for my order.  Basically they confirmed that they robbed me.  Thanks, Bitmain.  You f---ing crooks.

Questions for Kano?  This is what you can expect:

Quote
You clearly are shilling for Bitmain.

I'll simply delete your posts.

Here's a post I started a couple days before trying to discuss my questions with Kano:

Topic: Bitmain takes your money, does not confirm payment, does not ship product
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2062789

Worst. Shill. Ever.
444  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Watch out for Kano pool's 100% fees. on: August 05, 2017, 01:07:22 PM
Here's Kano bragging about keeping $48k $68k of unpaid 'dust' payments

Quote
lulz $150 a day ... not anything like that ... ~$44 a day for 3 years (though of course it goes up and down ... now we only get ~2 blocks a day so on the lower end)
Total balance since Sep-2014 is something like 16BTC - including miners who had no payout addresses and got more than dust.
$48k at current prices in almost 3 years.
445  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Watch out for Kano pool. on: August 05, 2017, 12:36:24 PM
Kano's reply to my question:

Quote
Yep dust mining here is indeed an unknown when you'll get paid out and until then, yep you could call it a 100% fee
446  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Watch out for Kano pool. on: August 05, 2017, 12:18:13 PM
To be fair, as Kano has pointed out, with PPLNS Antpool keeps the transaction fees, and Kano's pool does not.  So '0%' is not accurate, although they do clearly state this in their support document so it's not exactly deceptive, just greedy.

Still no answer about how / when / if 'dust' is paid out with Kano's pool though.

With my miner slugging away at 3.5-3.7 Th/s, every block payment was under the 10k payout limit.  He (she? whatever) has said numerous times 'You'll get that dust when hell freezes over', or roughly equivalent.  So for me, my 'fees' on Kano pool are roughly... 100%

So 0.9% is not exactly accurate either.

Maybe it's a good deal if you have a large miner farm, I wouldn't know.  Seems like requiring users to have considerable mining resources defeats the purpose of a mining pool, but your mileage may vary.

447  Economy / Scam Accusations / Watch out for Kano pool's 100% fees. on: August 05, 2017, 10:39:39 AM
I thought I'd try Kano pool.  My experience with it was not great... which is fine, but then I tried to discuss it with Kano here and that's when things went really south.

What I was trying to figure out is 'Will I get paid if my per-block reward is less than 10k satoshi', because the website says the payments don't happen automatically, and Kano's posts here indicate 'this feature is in development' and that it will be done 'sometime around the return of Satanio' or something like that.  Basically, don't expect payment for blocks if the reward was less than 10k.

Which is... not great but whatever.  Talking about $1.50 here, not really that big of a deal.  Just tell me that so I can make my plans accordingly.  Still no direct answer to that.

Instead, when I mentioned how Antpool is paying better, and faster (both facts), Kano decides I'm shilling for Bitmain (despite me starting threads like 'Bitmain takes your money, does not ship product, DO NOT TRUST BITMAIN'), and says Antpool has higher fees.  Which is not true.

To be clear:

Kano's Fees are 0.9%, PPLNS.

Antpools fees for PPLNS: 0%

And actually, Antpools fees for PPS are negative 5%.  And at the moment they have some sort of promotion where they pay you extra on top of that.  For me right now thats 16% extra.  Again, I am not a fan of Bitmain, but these are the facts, and it's very simple to check.

Anyways, I posted as much in a short message to Kano's thread, and he promptly deleted it.  I guess he needs to be deceptive to keep his pool going, so anyone laying out the facts has to be silenced.  I shrugged that off, and responded to someone else who said I needed to mine with Kano for 3-4 days to actually hit max payout by saying I don't like systems that require ongoing effort without reward based on the expectation that there will eventually be a reward because this is the same dynamic that keeps gamblers at the blackjack table losing their life savings... IIRC, the term for this is 'cognitive dissonance'.

I didn't say anything bad about Kano or his/her pool in that post, just that I don't like systems like that.  Post was promptly deleted.

So, because Kano apparently does not pay out small payments (which do add up, obviously), is misrepresenting the reality about the fees of his/her pool compared with others, and is actively trying to silence anyone saying anything remotely critical of this practice, I have to say 'Watch out for Kano pool'.

Hello, I was wondering if I will get paid for the mining I did with Kano?  I tried it out for a day or two.

I have a dust balance of 40k satoshi, but each block only 7k or so.

I thought about mining with Kano but Antpool pays much better, and faster.  Dealing with Bitmain is kinda unpleasant, I'd rather go with someone else but I have to maximize profits.  Antpool = 120k satoshi a day, Kano = maybe 30k?  Hard to tell with the PPLNS system in place.

I sent them this after I ordered an S9 in the latest batch

I would like to complete this purchase however before I wire any money I found this topic on Bitcoin talk

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2062789.new#new

The poster said he wired the money but you have yet to confirm it.  Before I wire funds I'd like to be sure there are not going to be any problems if I wire funds

I've waited over 4 weeks now.  In the support forums for Bitmain, there are many people with similar problem.  Some have waited over six weeks, still no confirmation.

My brother bought some miners with bitcoin though, they confirmed his payment in 12 minutes.

Don't pay with wire transfer.  Not sure if you should buy from Bitmain at all, I think they're up to something.  Maybe they sell all of current design just before releasing new better miner?  Be careful, good luck.

I paid them for a mid-September batch though.  At this rate, they won't even confirm that they received the money until (or later) than then.
453  Economy / Service Discussion / [ RESOLVED ] Bitmain takes your money, does not confirm payment, does not ship on: August 03, 2017, 12:55:03 PM
I sent them a wire transfer a month ago, it still isn't marked confirmed, and their support staff just keeps stalling.  They reply to my support requests every two weeks or so but don't actually answer any questions or resolve anything.

They already have my money, and apparently have no intention of sending me the product I paid for.

Does anyone know how to resolve this?  I took out a small loan to buy the miner with the understanding that I would have it in time to pay off the loan.

DON'T TRUST BITMAIN.

UPDATE: Bitmain just confirmed my payment.  Only took them 5 weeks.  /sarc
454  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why does BCH have any market capital at all? on: August 02, 2017, 03:04:24 PM
If I understand correctly, the value of a crypto currency is essentially how much capital is held in that coin divided by the number of coins in circulation.

So when BTC forked, suddenly there's 16 million BCH coins in existence which should have essentially 0 capital, giving it a value of 0.  But it's fluctuating between $600-$800 per now?

Can someone explain this to me please.  Thanks.

You have that backwards...

As Variogam indicated, the "market cap" is the current price multipiled by the number of coins in existence.

Furthermore, there is no actual "Market Capitalization" for cryptocurrencies.  That phrase has no real meaning when talking about a commodity or currency.  It is a phrase that applies to shares of a company or business.

However, people who buy-and-sell cryptocurrencies as a speculative investment often like to think of their coins like a stock, so they multiply the current exchange rate by the total coins created so far and mistakenly use the words "Market Capitalization" to describe the result.

Here's an example:

Lets say I create a brand new crypto currency.  Lets say I create and give out to 1,000 people (including you) 100 DannyCoins each for free.  The total number of coins created so far is:

1000 people X 100 free coins each = 100,000 total free coins.

Now lets say an exchange lists my made up coin, and you offer 1 DannyCoin for sale on the exchange.  Lets say someone that doesn't have any DannyCoins yet buys that 1 DannyCoin from you for $50.

The total amount of fiat invested so far in DannyCoin is $50.

The market value (exchange rate) of DannyCoin is now established at $50.

The value of your remaining 99 DannyCoins at the current market rate (for as long as $50 remains the current market value) is $4950 .

But the "so-called" Market Cap is:
$50 X 100,000 coins = $5,000,000

So, with only $50 in capital "invested" in the coin, the "Market Cap" is $5 million!

Thanks for this very clear explanation.  Makes a lot more sense now.

Just got my order in, thanks.

Hopefully I'll have my first S9 mid-September, still waiting for my wire transfer to go through and confirm my order.
458  Bitcoin / Hardware / S9's sold out on: July 03, 2017, 04:59:24 PM
Bitmain has stopped taking orders for S9's

Anyone have any idea when we could expect them to become available again?   Or does this indicate a new generation of miners is going to be released?

Anyone know of any other reliable sources to get about 10 (new) s9's?

Thanks.
459  Bitcoin / Mining support / Spondoolie SP-30 - How to clear the log? on: June 20, 2017, 01:25:55 AM
Hi all.

I found the (separate) 'Events' and 'Log' section in the SP30 admin, and I found where you can clear the events, but not the log.

Anyone know how to clear the lower window of that area?  It just keeps getting bigger, seems like eventually that'll be an issue.

Thanks

Fantastic, thanks for clearing that up for me!

Scratch that idea then.
