441  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Help with investment choice. on: March 15, 2018, 01:51:31 PM
Hello everyone, longtime lurker but made an account to ask a question. I am looking to make a small investment in crypto but am having a hard time deciding which way to go. Im thinking either BTC, ETH, or XMR. Ive looked at google results on predictions if each but every different site seems to contradict the other. So what crypto would ypu invest cash in today?

You're saying that you're "having a hard time deciding which way to go" and I can completely relate to that.

What are your expectations though? And "getting rich" isn't the correct answer I'm afraid Wink
I would suggest that you treat your crypto investment in a similar way you would approach a conservative investment like in a fund or a savings plan. Define your budget, when do you need/want your money back (if something is left), do you have exit plans if something unforeseen happens? Do you want to have the possibility of e.g. a stop-loss if prices drop?

Ask yourself this:

  • Do I understand how the investment works?
  • What are your goals?
  • What level of involvement is required?
  • What are the risks of this investment?
  • How much do you expect to earn on this investment (ROI)?
  • How long do you plan to invest? Is this a short-, medium- or long-term investment?
  • What are the costs to buy, hold and sell the investment?
  • Is there a clear exit strategy?
  • What other investments do you have already?

I hope you find the right investment for you. The most important thing before investing: educate yourself as best as possible, especially if you can't answer #1 with YES Smiley
442  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Bounties (Altcoins) / Re: 🍺🏅🍺[BOUNTY][Pre-ICO][SKI] Skillchain: THE LINKEDIN OF THE FUTURE 🍺🏅🍺 on: March 15, 2018, 10:29:49 AM
Dear Bounty Manager,
May I ask if we need to  fill up the report form everyday to submit each report (for example in twitter campaign)?

Pls enlighten us regarding the rules of submitting reports. Thanks!

Dear Princess,

you should fill in the form every time you do a Tweet (valuable for the bounty, so "must mention us + link either to our website, Telegram group, or whitepaper").
As per our Bounty's rules you will wait 1 day from 1 Tweet to another and you will tweet max 30 times.
That is, you will fill in the form every time you tweet, max 30 times.

thanks,

the Bounty Campaign Manager

Hi bounty manager,
so retweets alone won't count? E.g. I do 5 retweets of the Skillchain Tweets on 5 days, that won't count towards the bounty?
The rules are a bit vague in this regard. Would be awesome if you could elaborate on this. If you say "tweet must mention us + link either to our website, Telegram group, or whitepaper" retweets don't do that necessarily so they wouldn't count, but then there is no incentive to retweet the channel?
Thanks a lot!

But what are the rewards per tweet or per week ? Where is the  spreadsheet ?
per weeks... U can check first page to see spreadsheet Smiley

Hi, do we need to make reports in this thread or isn't this necessary?
Thanks for the help!
444  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is there a wallet with face id? on: March 14, 2018, 10:39:25 PM
Hi everyone,

Face Id feature is a new trend in the smartphone world. I was thinking is there a mobile wallet that can use face id instead of 12 words seed?

Basically, I would like to have something like this:

  • The wallet app scans the face and extracts its id
  • Then it uses this id to generate an appropriate seed
  • Finally the wallet derives the keys from the seed as usual

So, as you can see, it would be very convenient to restore the bitcoin wallet just by using your face.

Hope all this makes sense.

Hi, I can understand why you'd like to have this kind of wallet - it's convenient. But please, make yourself familiar with the importance of security in regard to cryptocurrencies. Once compromised a wallet/address is compromised forever, you can't undo it and the worst is, you aren't even aware that it is compromised until it's too late.

Your idea has a flaw too. What happens if I scan your face with face ID? Will it generate the same seed you got? If not, how is it then a unique key/seed?
I know that your idea is basic and just an idea, but as long as the technology isn't there, this will most likely stay an idea Smiley

I don't want to come across as rude but I can't help it, I must post this link for you  Wink Link: Face ID - Not the best way to secure your crypto
If the answer isn't yes >> don't use it for crypto

445  Other / Meta / Re: LoyceV's Merit data analysis on: March 14, 2018, 04:54:46 PM

The average is heavily weighted towards what happened right after the system was introduced and most of the distributed sMerit that everyone received was used in the first few days. Since then theymos has increased the number of sources from 35 > 57 > 77 and also increased the merit allocation for each source at least twice. Many of those new sources are indeed active on local boards. All you are missing is that it is a problem that is being monitored and dealt with by the administrators already.

You are right, I already found a very informative thread by zentdex where the decrease is very well illustrated:

'The graph shows that the Average sMerit gradually decreases day by day. The highest moving average (6,796) peaked at Jan 25 while the lowest (2,394) is marked on March 1. From Jan 30 to Feb 13 the average decline between five to three percent (5-3%) per day. Moreover, on Feb 14 to March 1, the average decline per day shift between two or one percent (2-1%). These indicate that sending sMerit is pretty much stable enough or there are lacking sMerit to send. If the latter is right and the decrease remains at 2%, the theoretical moving average 1 sMerit per day will be reach on March 2, 2019.'

He also mentions that, if this trend is continued, the Merit Sources are too few (although they were recently upped). My point here is, that even the current rate of distribution is too low and even if there are more Sources it wouldn't increase (what I think would be necessary) drastically but only level out. Right now, Merit is a scarce commodity that gets rarer and rarer.
Even if you post valuable content, which is a highly subjective matter, you don't rank up in the same time you would have in the past (even without spamming), because of this decline of available Merit/sMerit and therefore the increase in value.

How does this compare to the total number of posts per board? The Russian board has (in total) 7 times more posts than the German board. If recent posts have that same ratio, Germans are about as likely to receive Merit as Russians.

I see what you are getting at, but isn't the (active) member count important rather than the number of posts or the total number of threads? Fact is in the Russian board way more  Merit gets distributed and unless they are that more members (by the same factor) it's a lot more Merit per person. I highly doubt that the Russians produce content that is this superior that it would merit the Merit (sorry, made me laugh  Cheesy).

But I forgot to thank you in my previous post, I highly appreciate this kind of analytical work. Would've given you more Merit if we weren't on a tight budget and it needs to last for some encouragement in the Beginner and Help section  Smiley
446  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to save a key for Google Authenticator on: March 14, 2018, 10:28:30 AM
You could just use Authy.
Why? The answer to this is simple, you can make bachups and even use multiple devices at the same time!
No more fear of losing the phone in GA 2FA if you lose your phone and you didn't write the 16 string letters and numbers, you're just fu***d...

Features Of Authy (https://authy.com/)

Easy to setup 2FA for any account.

TouchID, Encrypted Backups and more to keep you secure.

Prevent account lockout when you lose your phone.

Sync 2FA across mobile, tablet and desktop.

Authy can be used I mobile and desktop also if you lose your mobile also the application can be used in desktop and it will automatically sync all your accounts in both mobile and desktop. This application can be used offline also and easily can be backup also and very user-friendly.

Authy vs Google Authenticator

Authy can be used onmultiple device whereas Google Authenticator is limited to 1 device.
Authy can be used on android, iOS mobile device, apple watch, desktop etc.
Authy can be used mobile as well as desktop while Google Authenticator is available only for smartphones.
Authy has password recovery option while Google Authenticator doesn’t have encrypted recovery backups.

The drawback: Authy (and SMS) are vulnerable to phone porting attacks

How to use Authy?

Download the application in mobile and desktop and setup the account with your name, email and mobile number.

After setting up the account open the application and open add account, now scan the QR Code from the website or enter the key manually. And finally enter the token code generated in authy your account has been secured with authy.

Here is a guide on how to use Authy on Binance: https://authy.com/guides/binance/
447  Other / Meta / Re: LoyceV's Merit data analysis on: March 14, 2018, 08:26:16 AM
What about the local boards? Those should be the figures for local merit distribution. But how will this progress? Being active on the German board, I'm tempted to learn Russian  Cheesy

Right now, there are 77 Merit sources generating ~588 merit/day
But in contrast to that, since implementation, ~2152 merit/day were sent. So unless the number of merit sources gets almost quadrupled, it get's harder to earn merit, especially in local boards. Or am I missing something?

448  Local / Deutsch (German) / Re: Neues Forum Ranking System / Merit System (FAQ) - Was denkt ihr? on: March 14, 2018, 08:20:19 AM

449  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is it safer to have a separate wallet for each coin you own? on: March 13, 2018, 09:49:59 PM
Is having a separate wallet for each coin you own safer than putting several different coins into the same wallet?

As you might have seen, such a question isn't that easy to answer. Therefore it would be great if you could elaborate a bit more on what your circumstances are. What do you consider safe, what is your setup and what are you going to do in crypto world? If you just buy some coins then hold them, it really doesn't make that much of a difference and in that case, you should go for a hardware wallet. If on the other hand, you want to take part in airdrops and all kinds of shenanigans, then you need a whole other level of safe and multiple wallets aren't the worst idea. So what will it be Smiley ?
450  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How can I learn to read and write German? on: March 13, 2018, 07:11:19 PM
I am basically new to the forum but I am not new to the space, I have read a lot about the forum and would love to  participate in Translation Bounty, but I am a native English speaker and would love to take up the task to learn a new language.

Can anyone help with advice?

Do you have any experience at all in German? I myself am German and compared to English it's a bit harder to learn, but there are also other languages that are way more difficult to learn. If you already have a bit of experience, did you ever consider audiobooks? It's a great way to learn a language. Take a book you like (and read) and try the audiobook. Maybe you have a favorite book that you already read several times. It's an awesome and fun way to explore a language.

Best of luck to you Smiley

453  Other / New forum software / Re: Can we "Like" a post? on: March 13, 2018, 08:43:42 AM
But still, we are a transition for the merit system. Positive effects for lower ranks really make a change if this members really want to stay in the forum.

Honest question, did you observe this positive effect you're mentioning yourself? Maybe it is biased because I see so many lower-ranking members in the local forum upset about not ranking up but I'm really concerned that the merit system doesn't work the way it was intended.

There is a transition, sure, but I fear that it'll get even harder to gain merit than it is now.

Right now, there are 77 Merit sources generating ~588 merit/day
But in contrast to that, since implementation, ~2152 merit/day were sent. So unless the number of merit sources gets almost quadrupled, it get's harder to earn merit. Or am I missing something?

This is great Idea, having "Like" button in every post we create. Also, the idea in number of Likes will be one of the basis having a merit point. Hopefully this may happen in our forum.

No.  I want people to be as free to like as many posts at they want.  It should have no influence on anything.

You start tying it to merit and you introduce restrictions.

I get what you mean but don't you think that this might be a good addition (not a supplement) to the merit system? I'm sure that there is a way to implement a "like"-system without the restricting element you mentioned. Nevertheless, it's a valid point.

2. Bitte keine Anfragen von Newbie-Accounts
3. Audit-Link posten

Cheers!

Hey STeX team, did you ever consider to airdrop a percentage of the A2A to your STE token holders? Like the recent Ontology airdrop (NEO) or Callisto (ETC).

yes, all STE holders will get 10% from A2A ICO distribution as an airdrop.

Awesome! Thanks for the confirmation. Both tokens first will be tradable on STeX exchange after launch, right? Will they both be tradable on other exchanges or will they be treated differently because of the security nature of the STE token?
