That is the quote that convinced me it is real.

fefox has been in the top 5 on bitminter since I first mined there in 2012

back when  20th  was the entire network. Grin

I hope to order  2-4 units from myrig.com
Given that myrig.com price for the S9 according to their website is twice bitmain's, I'm hoping for a reasonable price first Smiley

I'm hoping, but not expecting. It's going to be a crazy buy fest. Maybe within a few months the "frenzy" will ease up. Either that or I'll simply vote with my pocketbook and buy cheaper, but less efficient ASIC hardware.

M3 is closer to 10A at 220v. And then it's advisable to not go over 80% of your rated capacity. That's for individual circuits, but I imagine it's the same for a whole panel.
443  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Minerwarez official Canaan Distributor on: January 14, 2018, 08:23:10 PM
I did end up getting my refund. It posted to my wallet day before yesterday, I been running around constructing another mine and kept forgetting to post here that they did process the refund.

I do think it is shitty that I only got .18 bitcoin back when I paid the .39.  And this is why, When I fly to the UAE and purchase a bit of electronics if it fails and I ship it back from any place in the world my refund is made to the original card I used and is for the original amount. If I purchase a item from home depot that is on sale for $10 at the time of purchase then return that item when it is not on sale I only get the $10 sale price back. Same thing goes if I purchase a item for $15 and return it but the item is on sale for $10 when I return it I still get my $15 back. So it seams that the president is already set in the retail market place that when you request a refund you refund is all ways in the original amount paid.

For the fact that they screwed me out of .11 in bitcoin I consider MinerWarez a Fraud!! I will likely spend time and money to publicly campaign against them and use this purchase as the root!

I can see your frustration, did they provide a reason for the subtraction? It seems they are playing with the conversion rate to USD and that is WRONG. No way I will deal with them.

Well let's just take this as a glimmer of hope. One thing's for sure, pretty much everyone here wants to have choice in the equipment they buy to mine.

In my opinion the reason for all cryptos moving down has been the South Korean FUD. Things are looking a bit better at the moment.
447  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Can my S9's run without my presence on: January 12, 2018, 11:59:51 PM
You said you would be hosting in a data center. If that is the case they should have switch mode PDU's that allow for remote power cycling. I dont know of any crypto DC that would let you put your own power control in like that.

Are these PDUs able to reset individual S9s? I would not want to reset all 20 of my Antminers for just 1 of them. Wouldn't I lose money that way since the hashing would be interrupted?

You can purchase PDUs with switched individual outlets. They have a web interface which you can log in to and control the outlets. Most hosting facilities usually provide some sort of service for a fee or a certain amount of time built in to your contract where someone on staff will do small tasks for you.
448  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Split AC Unit for Cooling Mining Farm? on: January 12, 2018, 11:50:10 PM
40 miners = 54kW

That would be a disaster.

54 KW is about 160,000 BTU - that wouldn't be a disaster, that would be a "miners in constant overheat shutdown" if you didn't end up with a fire.
MASSIVE AIRFLOW (and possibly some Evap cooling input to the "cold side" of the room as PART OF that massive airflow) is the only viable answer.

HVAC folks generally have NO CLUE about the heat load miners generate.
Even DATA CENTER folks have NO CLUE about the heat density of miners, as a general rule.

You're right on that aspect, I manage a data center and initially I was shocked by both the BTU output and CFM of these ASIC miners. The only things I have that come close are big Cisco 9509s with 8 power supplies ea.

449  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: DragonMint 16TH/S halongmining.com on: January 12, 2018, 06:25:56 AM
I think that the reason they are still using other miners Operating Systems is because their software is not ready yet, you can imagine how scarce Linux devs must be these days considering how everyone just wants to push out a good fat solidity.  Grin
I saw BTCDrak did fork the S9 OS and he is probably working man-alone trying to get this thing ready in time for release so this would also explain the reluctance to allow these things into the wild.
Ironic the times we live in where Engineers are available by the dozen but a REAL dev is hard to come by.

Anyway to be honest I don't give a crap what the user interface looks like, as long as these things hash like the clappers and turn off when they hit 105 degrees.

Pfffffft I feel this is a supposed religious experience. I am supposed to have faith in certain people... F it show me the goods.

Man, so many vocal people, yet no responses? Smiley
451  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 200 KwH Power Solution? on: January 12, 2018, 04:34:58 AM
I think you should compare your income for 12hrs per day vs. the ROI on the other options. Sounds like it's cheaper to simply run your rigs 1/2 day.

May I ask your general location?
452  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Questions re BTC mining w/ 1 - 10 machines in the USA (or Canada) on: January 12, 2018, 03:21:25 AM
As a general rule, unless your power rate is under $0.08/kwh all in, hosting is a better option.

Really? I am at .056, but even at .10 I think I'd be OK. Now at the moment I only have 2 S9s and 1 S7, granted not much of a setup at all. But I am definitely profitable.
453  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Split AC Unit for Cooling Mining Farm? on: January 12, 2018, 02:54:56 AM
Air conditioner unit ------> No.

Good air ventilation, with cooling fans if needed -----> Yes.

I will not argue with the smarter people in the room Smiley
454  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Split AC Unit for Cooling Mining Farm? on: January 12, 2018, 02:40:06 AM
Running AC will demolish your profits as you need a large amount of AC for that many miners. A 24k BTU AC will not keep up with that many ASICs

I'm getting away with this many ASICs since it's winter but realizing I should probably sell them just because it does not work the best for residential (cooling wise).

Before giving up I would try to split the room in to a hot side and a "cold" side. Removing the miner's waste heat is the single biggest thing people seem to overlook. Make your cold side as small as possible, if you can provide ambient air you might be surprised. If that is not enough then a small portable A/C unit might work, remember you do not have to cool the output of the miners you simply need to supply them with cooler air.

Lastly, depending on your electricity costs you might still be profitable even with A/C.
455  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Port forwarding to access Avalon Controller on: January 11, 2018, 10:33:48 PM
Okay so I figured it out but I have closed the ports down. How would someone hack me if I have a strong password set up get into my controller?

I think my router supports VPN but I don't know much about how that works. I have an Arris two in one modem router. I'm sure if I was able to figure out port forwarding and setting up a ddns I should be able to figure out VPN.

There's so much more to security than just a password, there's many ways to hack a website. The little webserver serving up the miner's management page was never built to be secure. Either go the VPN route or use a product like Awesomeminer.
456  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What would be the perfect ASIC Bitcoin miner? on: January 11, 2018, 10:21:53 PM
What would be the perfect miner?

I am working with a group build ASIC miners based on 7nm architecture.  At the current moment our thoughts are to implement a more traditional server design.

Proposed form factor would be a 3U or 4U chassis.  These  sizes allow for interchangeable hash-boards similar to the GPUs on a PCI board.

Some benefits for 3U ASIC Server with interchangeable hash-boards:

1) Server chassis and main controller could be re-used
2) Potentially multiple alogorithms hashing within the same chassis
3) Allows for standardized server racks to be used

Any feedback or alternative designs.  A simple mock-up of potential layout is below:

Or is this just too much?

Coming from a server background, and because this is a wish list I'd like the fans and power supplies to be redundant and hot swap-able. It'd also be nice to have mirrored internal SD cards to run the controller OS. Some sort of out of band mgmt. port (like an iDRAC or RIB) would be nice as well. Along with sensors not only on the chips but various areas of the chassis and an intrusion notification switch. Those latter items would be really nice for colo or remote locations. Front panel status LCD would be nice, but I am sure my list is turning in to big $$$ by now. Anyway for mounting I would want rails rather than a shelf mount.

That's all I can think of for now.
457  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Power cord become so hot on: January 11, 2018, 04:34:42 PM
Hello there,

Lately i have purchased 5 antminer S9 with bitmain Power supply.
I have purchased exactly same power cord on all my S9. All S9's are working just fine except one of them. if i turn on one of them after 5 min the power cord become so hot that you cant even touch the cable. I did replace the cable with another working machine and again  same thing happening.

Could you please help me in this case.

Regards

You need to provide more info. What size circuit are you running these on? Are all 5 on one circuit? Is it 220v or 110v? Are you running a PDU or some sort of power strip, etc, etc.
458  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Will mining still be worth it when the block reward is 1.562 BTC? on: January 11, 2018, 05:14:24 AM
So far off, who knows what mining will even be. I just hope at that point I have a full ROI on everything Smiley
459  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Whistling sound from the latest batch of S9's on: January 11, 2018, 02:26:32 AM
....
Folks, the s9 whistle has been documented in the Official s9 thread and discussed to death there for nearly 2 years. To some extent it is present on ALL of them starting with batch-1 so long ago...

Yes it it worse on some and not too annoying on others but that is the nature of buying an INDUSTRIAL/COMMERCIAL-grade miner. They were made to be ran where noise is not an issue -- not at home or in an office Point is, hope you learned to do a little research before investing over 1k$ next time?

The sound is simply the siren effect caused by high speed blades moving air over slots/fins located perpendicular and very close to the blades. Look up how a siren works for pretty pictures. Don't know if anyone ever tried putting a short spacer tube between the intake fan and the body of the miner but that *could* break the coupling between the blades/fins to reduce it. Hell a tube say 2" long would probably eliminate it all together. Can't say I've tried simply because my farm is certainly not in my home..

Mine sounds pretty much like the video. I'd say leave it be and make some $$$. I'd dump that surge protector though Smiley
460  Bitcoin / Mining support / Planning out a small to mid sized farm on: January 11, 2018, 02:15:24 AM
I've been planning out my next step of running more miners in a 1,000 sq/ft warehouse. I've been looking at a lot of builds which utilize open racks, usually just wire utility racks. However I've been thinking about using server racks (I have a lot of cheap 42U racks available) and using these https://www.miningrigs.net/product/gmi-7u-antshelf/ which hold 3 miners per shelf. In a 42U rack using 6 vertical PDUs and mounting the network gear elsewhere I could stuff 6 shelves in for 18 miners per rack. Using the server racks, baying them properly, and using blanking panels I think it would make it pretty easy to use any of the off the shelf cold isle containment solutions out there. Honestly I will probably make my own "roof" and just use the magnetic mount air curtains at the isle end. I am also thinking about setting up the racks in groups of 10 with 5 per side. That way I slowly fill the warehouse as I grow, but keep my cold isle cooling needs to only the active group of miners. If I do need A/C cooling (I am in Texas) I can easily run ducts to the top side of the cold isles and then let the miners vent to the rest of the space utilizing proper large exhaust fans.

Have any of you guys used server racks and those 7U miner shelves? I like the cleanliness of the install. Overall thoughts?
