Swiss reign supreme in world happiness ranks

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/apr/23/swiss-reign-supreme-in-world-happiness-ranks

<< The Danes' reign as the happiest nation on Earth has been usurped by Switzerland, but the Nordic nations still take up half of the top 10 places on an exhaustive and increasingly influential index of global wellbeing. In the third World Happiness Report, now encompassing 158 nations, Denmark has slipped to third, behind both the Swiss and Iceland, with Norway, Finland and Sweden also near the top. >>

Cold Spot suggests largest structure in the Universe: a supervoid 1.3 billion light years across

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2015/04/150420084753.htm

<< In 2004, astronomers examining a map of the radiation left over from the Big Bang (the cosmic microwave background, or CMB) discovered the Cold Spot, a larger-than-expected unusually cold area of the sky. The physics surrounding the Big Bang theory predicts warmer and cooler spots of various sizes in the infant universe, but a spot this large and this cold was unexpected.

Now, a team of astronomers led by Dr István Szapudi of the Institute for Astronomy at the University of Hawaii at Manoa may have found an explanation for the existence of the Cold Spot, which Szapudi says may be "the largest individual structure ever identified by humanity". The researchers report their findings in the journal Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society. >>

How dogs stole our hearts

http://news.sciencemag.org/brain-behavior/2015/04/how-dogs-stole-our-hearts

<< If you think of your dog as your "fur baby", science has your back. New research shows that when our canine pals stare into our eyes, they activate the same hormonal response that bonds us to human infants. The study - the first to show this hormonal bonding effect between humans and another species - may help explain how dogs became our companions thousands of years ago. >>

Dogs are man's best friend thanks to bonding hormone, research shows

http://www.theguardian.com/science/2015/apr/16/dogs-are-mans-best-friend-thanks-to-bonding-hormone-research-shows

<< A rush of hormone that helps people bond could explain why humans and dogs have been best friends for thousands of years, say researchers in Japan. The scientists found that dog owners experienced a surge of oxytocin when their pets gazed into their eyes, a dramatic effect that was mirrored in the animals themselves.

The same hormone has been shown to spike in mothers' brains when they look into their children's eyes. The physiological response drives maternal caring and strengthens the bond between mothers and their babies. The latest finding suggests that dogs have tapped into this ancient biological mechanism, and through it reinforced the ties that have existed between humans and dogs since the animals were first domesticated thousands of years ago.

"This might be why the human-dog relationship seems to work so well", Takefumi Kikusui at Azabu University told the Guardian. >>

ISIS impregnates 9-year-old girl

http://nypost.com/2015/04/11/isis-impregnates-9-year-old-girl/

<< A 9-year-old girl is pregnant after being raped by ISIS savages in Iraq, a report said.

"The abuse she has suffered left her mentally and physically traumatized", said Yousif Daoud, a Canadian-based aid worker who recently returned from the region. "This girl is so young she could die if she delivers a baby. Even cesarean section is dangerous."

At least 10 different men with the Islamic State were said to have sexually assaulted the child, the Toronto Star reported. >>

Alabama man off death row after 28 years to jailers: "you will answer to God"

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/apr/04/alabama-death-row-anthony-ray-hilton

<< Anthony Ray Hinton, 58, spent half his life on Alabama's death row, sentenced to die for two 1985 murders that for decades he insisted he did not commit. Over 28 years, the outside world changed while Hinton spent his days largely in a 5ft by 8ft prison cell. Children grew up. His mother died. His hair turned gray. Inmates he knew were escorted off to the electric chair or the lethal-injection gurney. He was set free on Friday after new ballistics tests contradicted the only evidence – an analysis of crime-scene bullets – that connected Hinton to the slayings.

As he left the jail, Hinton said he would pray for the victims' families as he has done for the past 30 years. They have suffered a "miscarriage of justice" as well, he said. He had less kind words for those involved in his conviction.

"When you think you are high and mighty and you are above the law, you don't have to answer to nobody. But I got news for them, everybody who played a part in sending me to death row, you will answer to God", Hinton said.

According to the Death Penalty Information Center, Hinton is the 152nd person exonerated from death row since 1973 and the sixth in Alabama.

"They had every intention of executing me for something I didn't do", Hinton said outside the Jefferson County jail in Birmingham. >>

Facebook tracks all visitors, breaching EU law

http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/mar/31/facebook-tracks-all-visitors-breaching-eu-law-report

<< People without Facebook accounts, logged out users, and EU users who have explicitly opted out of tracking are all being tracked, report says. Facebook tracks the web browsing of everyone who visits a page on its site even if the user does not have an account or has explicitly opted out of tracking in the EU, extensive research commissioned by the Belgian data protection agency has revealed.

The report, from researchers at the Centre of Interdisciplinary Law and ICT (ICRI) and the Computer Security and Industrial Cryptography department (Cosic) at the University of Leuven, and the media, information and telecommunication department (Smit) at Vrije Universiteit Brussels, was commissioned after an original draft report revealed Facebook's privacy policy breaches European law. The researchers now claim that Facebook tracks computers of users without their consent, whether they are logged in to Facebook or not, and even if they are not registered users of the site or explicitly opt out in Europe. Facebook tracks users in order to target advertising.

The issue revolves around Facebook's use of its social plugins such as the "Like" button, which has been placed on more than 13m sites including health and government sites. Facebook places tracking cookies on users' computers if they visit any page on the facebook.com domain, including fan pages or other pages that do not require a Facebook account to visit. When a user visits a third-party site that carries one of Facebook's social plug-ins, it detects and sends the tracking cookies back to Facebook - even if the user does not interact with the Like button, Facebook Login or other extension of the social media site. >>
448  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: "If you were the President of the DGC Foundation, what would be your next step?" on: March 28, 2015, 07:43:28 PM
Do not quit. The current dev team is doing a great job, and DGC is the only alt I'm invested in. I believe the main thing that made people turn away from DGC was the price plunge from the high 40,000's, when I myself bought a lot of coins. I still have them and keep buying more whenever I can. Anyone who can't deal with that kind of thing should stay away from any market that involves risk, including traditional stock markets. I'm almost glad the price dropped as it did because that made the "get rich quick" parasites leave the community. The keyword here is persistence. I can see Digitalcoin becoming more and more relevant in the long run. Just stick to what you're doing and we'll get there eventually.

The Germanwings tragedy: inside the mind of a pilot (by Michael Bloomfield)

http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2015/mar/27/germanwings-tragedy-pilot-psychiatrist-psychological-evaluation-andreas-lubitz

<< French prosecutors have reported that first officer Andreas Lubitz appeared to want to destroy the aircraft carrying 149 innocent people aboard Germanwings flight 4U9525. As a qualified pilot and a psychiatrist, I have since repeatedly imagined nightmare scenarios in that cockpit. Although we will never know what was truly going through Lubitz's mind as the aircraft plunged, one of the many alarming aspects of this tragedy is that his depression is being quickly blamed. Obviously depression cannot be the sole cause of a likely mass murder. Understanding this could yield many important lessons, and for now, the black box flight recorder will continue to yield vital information. (...) >>

EA infects Battlefield Hardline with new ghastly DRM

http://www.guru3d.com/news-story/ea-infects-battlefield-hardline-with-new-ghastly-drm.html

<< So hey - I was am working on a graphics performance review for Battlefield Hardline, and guess what ? Do you guys remember the DRM introduced in Ubisofts Anno 2070? Well, EA just did pretty much the same thing. They sniff your PC and monitor for hardware changes.

The story goes like this; once upon a time I started working on a performance review. And after testing merely a handful of graphics cards I noticed EA will now lock your game (Battlefield Hardline) with the following message:

Interesting huh? Especially considering it is just one PC that we are using ? Here's what EAs DRM is doing these days, EA does not just verify the number of PCs you work on slash use, no Sir .. they monitor hardware changes inside your PC now, which I am sure is a privacy breach on many levels. So once we insert new hardware CPU / mobo / graphics cards or even a system firmware flash the hardware id # hash changes and if that happens a couple of times EA will render your game activation invalid. From what we now have learned, you get to have 5 hardware changes per license. Use them up and access to the game will be blocked for 24 hours per activation. >>

http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/mar/26/leave-facebook-snooped-on-warns-eu-safe-harbour-privacy-us

<< The European Commission has warned EU citizens that they should close their Facebook accounts if they want to keep information private from US security services, finding that current Safe Harbour legislation does not protect citizen's data. The comments were made by EC attorney Bernhard Schima in a case brought by privacy campaigner Maximilian Schrems, looking at whether the data of EU citizens should be considered safe if sent to the US in a post-Snowden revelation landscape.

"You might consider closing your Facebook account, if you have one", Schima told attorney general Yves Bot in a hearing of the case at the European court of justice in Luxembourg. When asked directly, the commission could not confirm to the court that the Safe Harbour rules provide adequate protection of EU citizens' data as it currently stands. >>

Germanwings flight 4U9525 deliberately flown into mountain, says prosecutor

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/mar/26/germanwings-flight-4u9525-deliberately-flown-into-mountain-says-prosecutor

<< The co-pilot of the Germanwings plane that crashed in the French Alps on Tuesday, killing 150 people, appears to have deliberately flown it into a mountain after locking the flight captain out of the cockpit. During the last eight minutes of the flight, the co-pilot "voluntarily" carried out actions that led to the destruction of the aircraft, Brice Robin, a French public prosecutor, said at a press conference in Marseille.

Citing evidence from a cockpit voice recorder recovered from the Airbus A320, Robin outlined the last moments of the doomed plane in a chilling account of the actions of the co-pilot, whom he named as 28-year-old Andreas Lubitz. Robin said Lubitz could be heard breathing right up until the point of impact, suggesting he had not lost consciousness. However, he failed to respond to increasingly desperate calls from the captain trying to break down the cockpit door, or to air traffic controllers. Passengers could be heard screaming just before the crash, Robin said. >>

Atty. Gen. Kamala Harris seeks court order to stop anti-gay initiative

http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-kamala-harris-antigay-initiative-20150325-story.html

<< Atty. Gen. Kamala Harris sought a court order Wednesday to keep her from having to provide an official title and summary for what she called an "utterly reprehensible" proposed ballot measure that would authorize killing gays and lesbians in California, her office announced.

The action by the state's top prosecutor was designed to stop the so-called Sodomite Suppression Act that was proposed by Huntington Beach attorney Matthew McLaughlin. The ballot initative would authorize the killing of gays and lesbians by "bullets to the head" - or by "any other convenient method".

Although considered an incredible long-shot to pass even if it ended up on a ballot, McLaughlin's move tests the limits of the state's normally liberal attitude toward placing even the most extreme ideas on a ballot if enough signatures are collected, experts say. For a fee of $200, McLaughlin submitted the act to the state attorney general's office, which must then give it a ballot-worthy name, summarize its effects and set the clock running for gathering signatures. >>

California lawyer seeks to put "shoot the gays" proposal on 2016 ballot

http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2015/mar/23/california-lawyer-shoot-the-gays-proposal-2016-ballot

<< A California lawyer says he wants to legalize the execution of gay people, and there may be nothing the state's attorney general can do to stop the proposal from moving forward.

Matt McLaughlin, an attorney in Huntington Beach, California, filed paperwork to bring his proposal, which would sanction the killing of gay and lesbian residents on the basis of their sexuality, before voters in November 2016.

The initiative, named the "Sodomite Suppression Act", is awaiting further review by the office of the state attorney general, Kamala Harris, who does not appear to have the authority to block it. However, the measure is unlikely to reach voters, as the California supreme court can intervene to prevent measures that violate the state constitution from reaching the ballot.

The so-called "shoot the gays" proposal would mandate "any person who willingly touches another person of the same gender for purposes of sexual gratification be put to death by bullets to the head, or by any other convenient method". McLaughlin, a lawyer since 1998, declared in his proposal that it is "better that offenders should die rather than that all of us should be killed by God's just wrath". >>

Mohammed: Gay?

http://www.city-data.com/forum/islam/2296432-mohammed-gay.html

Everyone knows he drilled Aisha when she was 9 years old but no one ever talks about the little boys.

Bukhari Book 4 Volume 52 Hadith 143

Narrated Anas bin Malik:
The Prophet said to Abu Talha, "Choose one of your boy servants to serve me in my expedition to Khaibar." So, Abu Talha took me letting me ride behind him while I was a boy nearing the age of puberty. I used to serve Allah's Apostle when he stopped to rest. I heard him saying repeatedly, "O Allah! I seek refuge with You from distress and sorrow, from helplessness and laziness, from miserliness and cowardice, from being heavily in debt and from being overcome by men."
