A lot of xxx coins out there. Share or stake sounds better.

Exactly, it differentiates us more.  I think we increase investors 10-20% if we take out the "coin" part.  Also we will be more attractive to educational outlets if we are even less associated with a "coin."

Looking forward to some alpha testing and seeing what these two devs have in store for the world.

NEM is a scam! nothing new except for the stupid discussion of stakeholder!
most members of the team of NEM(jaguar0625, bloodyrookie, thies1965, borzalom, gimre makoto and minusbalancer), except UP, are inactive! it seems that UP hopes to fund more money taking advantage of the   exiting strong community(ie, there is a waiting list).
anyway, UP doesnot deserve our trust!

because they are busy writing actual code you <insert_applicable_epithet_here>

Current development statistics:

Source Code Lines (Excluding Blanks and Comments)
NIS: 5854; NCC: 1506

Test Code Lines (Excluding Blanks and Comments)
NIS: 8180; NCC: 360

Total Number of Tests
NIS: 602; NCC: 24

Awesome, thanks for the update! Thanks for your work! NIS = NEM Infrastructure System..?

Maybe an occasional couple of lines of code, just to wet our appetites?

Let's consider renaming the coin at the same time, KarmaStake anyone?

karmashares  Wink

KarmaShares is a double entendre too.

Change to 50B + 1% year until 92B and PoS for coins after (x) days in same wallets  Grin

+1

Why PoS?

I see "minting" as a way for removing big sell walls from exchanges. Actually, I am not sure if 1% is good Idea. Maybe 1%, maybe 5% and why not 20% for the first year. It is a matter of discussion. But reducing to 50 billions, oh boy, this is really good. Almost all of you disagreed for tech change that will make Karma more attractable for miners, by saying that is most important to make it more attractable for investors. Reducing the total supply + POS is a very strong move ahead. Of course, let everyone know about that and let`s see what will come up. May some genius ideas will pop up. Grin

tampering with coin supply rate does NOT make the value go up. this is the same moronic logic that the federal reserve uses to manage and manipulate all USD based markets.
several times now the coin supply rate has halved by design and this has not caused any shift in the price of KarmaCoin at all. this is because the price of KarmaCoin is determined by the people selling (ie those who already hold coins) not by those people mining.

further more Bitcoins biggest selling point is that it is scarce resource and that is because the coin supply cannot be tampered with. once you start messing with it (up or down) you completely destroy peoples faith in that premise.

If you go past the point of no return there is no coming back... If you can reduce coin production rate arbitrarily then what is to stop you from later increasing it arbitrarily to suit your own needs?

the very second you alter the coins production rate in any way you are effectively destroying its deflationary nature.

by reducing the production rate of the coin all you are doing is reducing the amount of coins that go to miners thus making the coin less profitable to mine so you are effectively taking coins out of the hands of the people doing the work to secure the network and giving more power to the coins held by those people who already control vast amounts of coins. (This is called Crony Capitalism or Oligarchy)
Not only that but you are reducing the network hash rate and making the coin network more vulnerable to attack.

Maxcoin tried this trick and for a few weeks it seemed to work and then the price crashed back down again. In the short term yes it will benefit those people who hold the coin and want to dump it but in the longer term all it does is erode public confidence in the coin and concentrate power into fewer hands.

Seriously I cant believe people are even considering tampering with fundamental ideas of Crypto currency just to line their own pockets, especially when they are discussing the future of a coin supposedly based on Altruism. There isn't a coin in this world that could be successfully altruistic if it was being controlled by greedy mofos.

First, did you ever been in Hong Kong? Second, Karmacoin is not a charity coin - everyone must remember this. Third, most of the coins are mined not by you and me, but a big P2P pool, which holds maybe 25 billions of the Karmacoins. How are you planning to make them remove their coins from 1 satoshi and maybe less sell walls. With altruism? How are you planning to spread Karma if there is no buy orders, because the coin is not recognized yet? For what securing you are talking about when the net is about 250 - 400MHs? Huh One big operation and there will be no network. What do you suggest? To keep do nothing? Don`t look at Karmacoin with the eyes for Bitcoin and Litecoin. This is different. Times are different, conjuncture is different. Changes just have to be made. It doesn`t matter if we like it or not.

And one more thing. If not this week, then the next we will be removed from BTC market. https://support.mintpal.com/index.php?module=announce&sec=view&id=15 Just as I told you. I told you also that Karma will fall under 16 litoshi and it happened. I told you that it will fall under 10 and it happened. I told you that we will be removed from BTC market and it is happening. And you are continuing to fall in blindness and saying that no tech change have to be done?!?

Damn this is a tough one.  I 100% agree with Alphi and I mostly agree with paramount.  Part of me wants to just keep it the way it is rather than risking total shame upon our karma coin.  We stay in this trading range for the next three four months and build our wallets and community keeping it cheap to acquire.  The other part of me is saying, do we need to do something this drastic right now?  I sort of thought this was essentially a POWlight from the start with the quick and easy release of the coins.  Could a reduction to 72B be a satisfactory compromise and not look like we are all trying to line our pockets?  But as Alphi states, no one would trust the devs again of this coin and I agree.  POS may be the only legitimate major option.  Is there some other function that could be added to the coins algorithm to make it more appealing and otherwise not mess with the total number.  Changing the functionality could increase value without messing with the other fundamentals of scarcity.
448  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: altcoins are all dying on: April 06, 2014, 12:38:20 AM
I am fairly open minded.  If you think, ten years from now, we will only be using BitCoin and LiteCoin you are either heavily invested or too optimistic to think they will be able to stay as robust as needed and nimble enough to continually incorporate new features.  Eventually those changes needed to stay out front will either not be added quickly enough, or another crypto will have already cornered the market on that needed killer-functionality.  IMHO, Doge and NXT aren't going anywhere.  Doge has too much of a cult following and NXT has a head start on the other second gen cryptos and their offspring client is sick.

Eventually Ethereum will be in play and I am excited to see what they bring to the table at launch.

All of these will have to prove their worth over time.  I could see BitCoin eventually being scooped up by the big banks and used for only major transactions between institutions. Us serfs will be stuck paying for our happy meals with Doge, McDonalds Coins, and StarbucksPoints.  Cheesy

can't make this one, count me in for future meet-ups... Cool

We postponed it to the 26th after I discovered another Bitcoin Merchant Meetup and we merged.  Hope you can make it on the 26th.

Its funny how my mind makes pictures of people just out of forum names  Grin

Utopian Future : my minds creates a  picture of a thirty something white guy with a ponytail and french beard  Huh
Pat : a lanky German with spectacle and sandy hair
Jaguar : I automatically imagine a bare chested man with a leopard head  Grin

Did I get it right lol

I do the same thing! I think of Utopianfuture as some landscape in a 1930's scifi future, mixed in with the Wizard of Oz's emerald green fields surrounding the city.

Ethereum is doing an excellent job of pre marketing and promotion, something we should try and execute as best we can with our limited initial backing.   Just look at that site, the blog entries, the integrated forum, the meet-ups, it's all very well done.  They will definitely be getting some of my BTC (if they allow us yanks to participate) but also hope NEM will be there to stand toe to toe with them as well.

China has 618M Internet users, 80 percent on mobile.
We have to find someone for a good and secure Android wallet.

Agreed!  This is the killer app IMO for adoption in the real world.  I am stuck with an iOS device due to work restrictions but will soon be getting a personal droid just because of bitcoin.  That blackphone from Silent Circle looks interesting.

How can we add Karmacoin on BTER ?

BTER is only big because it is the Chinese market, which is supposedly going to have an even tougher time with Crypto after the 15th.  Not sure really how its going to play out, we are seeing the effects on the BitCoin price right now.

we absolutely need desktopwallets aswell since myself for example don't trust anything that i do not have under my own control. I think others may think the same way. What's not on your own system (desktop wallet) is not really yours.
I wouldn't use any onlinesolution for storing coins. I think it's not safe. An onlinepage with login and password is like an invitation for hackers to brute force.

i am actually pretty excited about nem. Can't wait for release.

i use a 512bit passphrase.. your saying that isnt safe?

i don't even know what that is Cheesy
i got used to securing desktopwallets though and improved constantly on security and would be nice if i could use that knowledge for nem also.
I never lost a coin that was on my own system. But i lost quite some coins on hacked exchanges. I like my coins offline for that reason Wink

edit:
the logic is: if it is online theoretically the whole world can try to steal it. If it is not online nobody has really a way to access.

it means that it would take 100s if not thousands of years to brute force it...

well what if you go to someones house and you need your coins? ok if you have a 'seed' you can download a wallet but thats a pain in the ass... with brain wallets you can go from one comp to another very easily and move/use your coins.. also with the AE being inclient you can also trade with out even having to send your coins anywhere.. cant do that with offline clients.. also how many peoples computers have been directly hacked and coins stolen? if you state on here you have x amount of coins a good hacker wants then.. im sure they could take them.. brian wallets are the way to go.. for sure.. but there still needs to be support for offline storage i think... personally i think its pointless but if it makes people feel more secure then ok...

Actually, with current technology a password that would take 100s or thousands of years to brute force would be a password that's under 10 characters long. Every time you add one character, the number of years goes up by a very large amount.

A long time ago I created a program that would tell me how long it would take to brute force a password, based on certain conditions.

I just tried it and a password with ten characters, would take 379.72 years to brute force, if a 95 key keyboard was used, and the computer was testing out 5 billion password per second. Which is a lot more than the average computer can do.

If I add one more charter, the it goes from 379.72 years to 36,037.07 years.

12 characters 3.4 million years
13 characters 325.5 million years
14 characters 30 billion years
15 characters, my computer can't calculated, because the total number of unique passwords is too large. But with just 14 character we already went longer than the age of the universe.

Those are quite big numbers, maybe scares brute forcers away Smiley
Unless they think that "nope, the users won't use 95 keys, only a-z and 0-9, and there is 5 million accounts ... it is enough to get one of those"
How big are the numbers then?

When NXT accounts were hacked, was there any brute force case or was they all hacked by stolen passwords or the password was some "movie phrase" or such?

movie phrases i think.. dictionary words ect... im quite happy with my passphrase then lol

I only use Bruce Willis movie lines backwards and translated into Swahili first.

What ever happened to this coin? It started so strong and with so much potential, and now its worth crap.

Also we were targeted by a massive mining pool that mined 25B coins in a few weeks time and dumped.
458  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][KARM] Karmacoin - New Initiatives - Helping People Do Good on: April 02, 2014, 01:53:23 PM
It's weird that price is so low despite all of this.

its not weird at all. there is no way to buy Karmacoin other than to first buy LTC or BTC and then jump on to a risky secondary market exchange and hope they don't collapse before you can get your coins out.

unfortunately we are just pissing in the wind atm...

We are still so early in all of this.  Be patient. BitCoin was less than a dollar for the first two+ years.  We will see BitCoin surge again later this year, October/November time frame, and the coins with good communities around them and a solid mission will also get a much needed boost.   LTC usually stays lock step with bitcoin so even if a coin is traded in the litoshi range, will also get a nice boost.

Bittrex appears to be a very solid exchange.  Has anyone been using it for other alts?

Loving the press releases, momentum building even while bitcoin is testing lows.  LOVE IT!!

so all those people who created accounts for their kids.  Will they be refunded?

I do call my euros and btc my kids. Maybe those people did think that too Wink

All of my bitcoins and NXT coins and Karma coins are my children's college fund so kind of the same thing <fingers crossed> :-)
