441  Economy / Economics / Coping with Risk. on: January 30, 2024, 11:08:42 AM
We know that regardless of the prospect of any business or investment, understanding the risk involved in the business is an integral part of the consideration one should consider before venturing into the business and when it comes to bitcoin investment, it's very basic yo know that the major risk associated with it are just a few of the ones below which could either be issue relating to hacking, lost or misplaced seed phrase or possibly sending your crypto holding to the wrong address considering it irreversible nature.

In our normal business we have risk also that are damn much which could range from fire outbreak, stealing, bad market, spoilage and lots of other factor that makes starting a physical business very risky and to have high possibility of yielding great loss.

so my question is, which is more risky?

A). Running a physical business that has a whole lot of risk associated with it or

B) running an online investment with high risk of hack that could result in you loosing all your asset.
442  Economy / Economics / Re: Save while young better than wait on: January 30, 2024, 07:36:36 AM
Look, you can be old and rich or young an poor, but being old and poor is bad shit.
seriously! When you look at an old person that is struggling financially you tend to wonder what he did with his youthful age that resulted in his current situation at the moment.

The mistake most people make is that they use their youthful age all out and spend all their earnings on frivolous stuff forgetting that a time would come when their strengths will become weak and what they will need to depend on will be more of their investment.

While one is still young, it's necessary to invest in business that will feed you in the future, invest in people and set up real financial structure that will back you up when your strength will fail you. Old age is a certainty for everyone and it's just unwise to make your plan without putting that in consideration.
443  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy the DIP, and HODL! on: January 30, 2024, 06:50:27 AM
I still wonder why most people always prefer trading instead of long time holding, perhaps it could be there perception on trading because I no of someone that just venture into Bitcoin only because he has the orientation that he could make a lot of money through Bitcoin trading so he was propelled to venture into it thinking that it will works the way he imagine it to be and now he has lost half of his money chasing Bitcoin price movement, so perhaps if most investors especially the new ones on Bitcoin investment will be able to remove the spirit of greed and focus only on the future of Bitcoin there is every possibility that they will surely do well on there investment journey.
the truth is that the choice on your investment choice is totally dependent on how you got your knowledge of Bitcoin from and what people around you are actually doing. To be honest, the first thing I knew about anything Bitcoin was related to bitcoin trading and if not that I'm following discussion in the forum that now opens my eyes to just HODLing which is less risky compared to trading the only thing I would have known would have just been trading.

My roomie ones told me that he knows that I'm into Bitcoin but hasn't seen those charts on phone and I just laughed and asked if that's all he knows about bitcoin. The truth is that majority of people hard their initial knowledge on bitcoin trading and do most of them started their bitcoin journey as traders and so regardless of the loss that might come as a result of the trading, they wouldn't see HODLing as a better alternative.
444  Local / Politics and society (Naija) / Re: Make una dey careful with online dating apps on: January 30, 2024, 06:40:25 AM
I say make I bring this advice come here because e get some of us here wey be say as soon as small money enter their account, na so body go dey sweet them to chat girls up online dey promise them heaven and earth or say you be Dangote pickin so that them go fall for you. Note that as you dey try to impress Dem you may actually be exposing yourself to the evil ones in our society. Abeg advice no be curse!

the thing is that looking for a partner In a dating app should only result in just one thing and that's a one night stand after which nothing serious should be expected out of it. This might be personal but anybody I meet in a dating app isn't someone I would want to take seriously because it's assume that she can't be trusted for real. People are damn unpredictable and most if the people joining those dating platforms are not their for any good motive. Most of them are looking for people that they will use for a bad agenda and if you go love for dating app na OYO be your case oh.
445  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Africa Football Discussion || Current Topic: AFCON 2023 on: January 30, 2024, 06:26:50 AM

Truly indeed I'm happy Egypt, Senegal, Algeria and Cameroon are out but the main issue is now Morocco who has really been excellent especially since the last World Cup but I will not write off any team, Nigeria should be cautious and give their in match in order to win and hope the keeper injury wasn't serious because we  can't to Uzoho, I always wonder why they continue to pick him.
this is one of those afcon that you can't really predict which team will go home with the trophy seeing big team's being kicked out of the tournament and teams that where doing poorly suddenly coming back to getting an impressive win in the tournament.

Truth is that it's an advantage for the Nigerian side seeing that most of the big threat in the tournament are gradually being kicked out and it seems as though they are one of the strongest team still in the tournament but if they allow that thought get into their head, then they are damn on there way back to Nigeria. One of the important factor that contributed to the super eagles defeating Cameroon is that they did not underrated the Cameroonian side at all and that was what gave them that fighting spirit from the start of the Match till the game came to a close.

For ivory coast, it's good to know that they have something to celebrate for because it would be a big disgrace that they couldn't qualify out of the group stage but seeing that they've secured another win in the round of sixteen would a great joy in their country. Of course this is football, don't be surprised that they can go into the finals even after their poor start in the tournament.
446  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you think gamblers do retired betting gambles on: January 30, 2024, 06:08:10 AM
As a gambler what do you think that should be the right time we suppose to leave gambling weather we are making profits or we are not making profits with gambling, because I know quite well that gambling whenever you are making profits you will wish to continue gambling unless that you run out of cash.
the fact that a person is aging doesn't mean he should stop doing the little thing that gives him joy. What makes an old person to continue living Long is those engagement that he involves himself in that keeps him going on.

Retirement doesn't mean one should stop doing anything at all, it means you should slow down and start doing things that aren't all that stressful to your health. To be honest, most aged people need gambling and other fun activity more than the younger one because they've passed the age of active service so they need environment like that were they can discuss with younger gamblers and share with them their experiences and probably give them good advice on how to go about with ethical gambling.

The moment you stop and older man that was ones a gambler from involving in the art just because of his age, you've obviously sent him to his early grave because he will feel that he is useless and in no time depression will come in and he will age faster than normal.
447  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why it's wrong to save vital information on your phone. on: January 30, 2024, 05:58:40 AM
I would suggest that we save all our important information in writing in our jotter or dairy, because a written than words is always longer than the memory.
this is basic security 105 that I think everyone that's in the industry have known.

It's not a new thing anymore that their is nothing like privacy as long as it concerns the the information that is one your device. Even the ones you have deleted can be restored back to your device and used back later and that is one of the reasons why we should be careful on the kind of information we keep in out phone or device. and it's not just out password or seed phrase, any information that could possibly harm us or become a threat to us shouldn't be stored on our mobile device.

Some people are even too find of taken a screenshot of a valuable information because they are lazy to copying it down. The drill you should give yourself should be that it's not something you would want an outsider to get access to, do yourself the favour of no leaving it in your phone at all.

When it comes to our effective existence in this industry, our security is our number one priority and so it's very important that we keep reminding ourselves these basic security checks so our carelessness doesn't bring all our holding down for nothing.
448  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin an opportunity like land on: January 30, 2024, 05:48:50 AM
Both are similar in some context but have their differences.

The price of land varies depending on the area the land is situated, their are places where if you want to get an acre of land, you will have to pay through your nose just so you can get one while their are other places that have land in abundance such that all you need to do is to get permission from the village head and they will give it to you for free. That's not the same with bitcoin price that's fixed in price and value irrespective of your location.

The volatile nature of bitcoin doesn't also apply much to land as in almost all cases, the price of land must always appreciate and has never dropped down in value.

Again, land isn't all that decentralized because you don't totally own your land because the government always have a say over your land, if they decide to run a serious project in an area close to the location of your land, then your land is technically gone and irrecoverable because they can choose to compensate you in exchange of your land or might forcefully destroy your property and seize ownership of the land.
449  Other / Meta / Re: (Any Guesses?) Are there many real (unpaid) people still posting here at BCT? on: January 29, 2024, 05:43:05 AM
Hello, I have spent many hours studying the old threads at your wonderful forum, and I suggest to anyone they do the same. The amount of challenging, high-quality topics combined with no spam or sigs is a refreshing retro experience for me. As we quickly head into 2024, do you think there many real (unpaid) people still posting here at BCT? Have a great day.
does it really matter if they are being paid or not? People have different reasons for joining the forum and for some, it's totally a platform of learning and sharing their wealth of experience with fellow bitcoineers while for some, they look at the pay as the central point of their existence in the forum.

As long as you could get some financial benefit for doing the same thing you will comfortably do at your convenience, would you reject it just because you came in for the knowledge sake?  And the thing is that you're not just being paid for doing nothing so it's not out of place to exist in the forum and actively participate in the forum discussion while receiving some financial accolades in return.
450  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy the DIP, and HODL! on: January 29, 2024, 05:22:47 AM
It's generally advisable to take a long term perspective when investing in Bitcoin and focus on the fundamental of the technology and it's potential growths.
the decision to go for either what you call long term investment which is HODLing or short term investment which I feel you're referring to TRADING depends totally on the individuals choice and experience.

For people that have mastered the art of trading, they might look at buying the DIP end HODLing it as a strategy for the inexperience ones while those that only buy the DIP and HODL might think that traders are high risk takers but the thing is more of focusing on what works well with you and sticking with it. The only issue is that because of the complexity involved with trading and the chances of a new person just starting his Bitcoin journey to experience looses more in trading than he will do in just Buying the DIP and HODLing is the main reason why it is more advisable for a beginner to start his Bitcoin investment journey by just accumulating it and Hodl.
451  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Nigeria Has Happened to Me:Shutting Down my Business After a Year of Operations on: January 27, 2024, 06:53:58 AM
Considering the high cost involved in running a business in Nigeria at the moment, it's not strange to witness businesses closing down because the expenses are too much and with the high rate of low salary earners in the country, the number of potential buyers that are needed to keep a business running afloat would be very small.

Before venturing into any business now in Nigeria, you should ensure that you have made the necessary plan in place on how to tackle these national challenges or else it would not take time before your business goes down.

Because of the high cost of fuel, must shops have shifted to the use of solar and almost all barbers shop now uses rechargeable clipper just so they can cut down cost. And as a business person you should look for ways to cut down on your expenses so you can still remain in the business. I know running s business in Nigeria isn't all that easy but if you've looked at the existing businesses you will observe that their are so many things that they are nit doing right and if you work more on creating a unique brand that is relevant in the country you wouldn't bother about competition close down any time soon.
452  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you blame someone for your gambling losses? on: January 27, 2024, 06:39:25 AM
The mother and the son after gambling away 5.6 million naira, that is about $8,000. When the reality dawned on them, they gave false information in petition, accusing someone of fraudulently transferring the fund from their Opay account to the sport betting account without their authorization.
so in essence they are suing the person for getting access to their opay account and transferring the money to their sports betting account? Wow! Isnt it funny.

I don't see a reason why they should be jailed since the money belongs to them. The only reason why they could possibly be sanctioned is because they had to drag someone to their mess. How on earth do you continue gambling snf you have Lost up to a million naira plus and you still continue gambling? This is why it is very necessary to set out an amount you wouldn't gamble above so you wouldn't end up losing all your wealth. I guess the reason why they continued playing until the lost such amount of money could possibly be that they were expecting to recover all their lost money and had to gamble until the unexpected happened.
453  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Bitcoin to be edible rice, will you swallow without complete chewing?. on: January 26, 2024, 09:00:45 PM
You want to pass a simple information across but you are using a complex analogy to go about it in the wrong way and it doesn't make your post reasonable at all.

Maybe what you're trying to say is that it is unnecessary to allow bitcoin price to drop too much before investing into it as  it would take time and their is no certainty that it would drop to that amount. This is true and like some other posts have also suggested, their is no need for you to wait till the price of bitcoin get to $18k before investing. As a new person that hasn't invested yet, you can still do it now which in your analogy could be that you can still swallow the rice now without waiting to grind it to a fine finish.
454  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Quit gamble! Easy or Hard? Let's talk. on: January 26, 2024, 08:50:25 PM

Quit gambling now!

I hate gamble

wow! So because you hate gambling everyone else should quite gambling? That's quite hilarious.  If what you're are suggesting is possible in reality, then no one would be doing anything at all because what you love doing might be what I hate and if I should obey you and stop gambling, you should also obey me and stop what you love doing.

It's okay not to love doing a particular thing and every gambling site understand that they are not going to serve everyone one and so they are only interested in a selected population of people that are interested in their business. Gambling is some peoples business and you telling others to stop it is same as wanting peoples business to be closed down. What you would have said that would have been reasonable would have been that you hate gambling addiction and that people addicted to gambling should stop it. Then it would have been a reasonable conversation to engage in .
455  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Does it looks responsible as woman telling husband you gamble? on: January 26, 2024, 08:39:20 PM
Does this worth telling him or not please i need you collective ideas.
personally, I don't like the idea of a lady going into gambling nit because it is totally bad but I feel that it doesn't fit their gender that much. Their was a certain time my female freeing for reasons best known to her decided that she was interested in soccer gambling and came to me for advice on how to go about it. I just told her to forget about it that I wouldn't tell her shit because it doesn't go down well with me that I am gambling and my woman would also gamble with me.

This is just a personal something and I know their are others that might find it cool that their wife is into gambling but I think before taking this decision of going into gambling as a leader you must have seen that it would go down well with your husband if he finds out and if that's the case then you are good to go.

But regarding the rules you've set out as bench mark you wouldn't cross as you start up your gambling journey, I feel they aren't necessary I you're going into a gambling niche that you enjoy playing with friends. Just don't for fun as a lady and don't allow yourself to become addicted or become used to it.
456  Economy / Gambling discussion / gambling for fun vs gambling for the financial benefit. on: January 26, 2024, 03:05:07 PM
I have read a lot of thread on this board talking about the need to gamble responsibly and suggesting that gambling is meant to be done for fun and not to be seen as a means of livelihood. While this is theoretically alright, in the reality so many persons actually gamble because they want to get some financial top up from the gamble.

What is mostly common in my neighborhood and that I mostly do is soccer betting and if I am not exaggerating, 90% of the people that do soccer betting do do because they want to win money.

They can watch the match for fun but as long as it involved them paying money before gambling, most persons don't normally see it as fun and this is the reason why after placing a particular bet, if the game isn't successful they continue betting hoping to get a win along the way thervy being seen as addict.

Do you really see gambling as more of fun than a means to a financial end?

how much can you put into gambling before it removes the fun aspect of gambling out of it?
457  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Older men vs Younger boys in gambling, Which enjoys Gambling for fun the more? on: January 26, 2024, 02:55:08 PM
Hi gamblers,

So, a particular discussion on the gambling board which I am part of; actually put this question into my head, and I thought I should ask the gambling community here, so we could possibly have some fun discussion it.

And the question is very simple, Between the older men (talking of from 60 years old and above), and younger men (talking of from 18 to 45 years of age) which of this category of men actually gamble for fun the more?

If I was to answer this question, I did say that the older men are more likely to be gambling for fun, than the younger men, and this is due to several reasons which I am not going to mention yet, but will see users who share in this same view of mine will be able to also come up with same reasons.

So, feel free guys and ladies, lets discuss.
when it comes to who loves gambling more and making comparison between the older or younger men, it would have been easy to say that it all depends on the individuals involved but in reality, we see that most young men tend to look at gambling as a means to an end and because they feel they are good in analysis of games, they normally gamble hoping that they will get a win at the end of the day. The older men on the other hand because of this level of experience and exposure might not really look much into always getting a financial incentive from the gambling and might just do it to keep themselves busy and catch up on old memories.

Outside of this, enjoying gambling is totally a personal thing and a younger or older person can love or choose not to even gamble at all
458  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: My idea on business strategy on: January 26, 2024, 07:41:20 AM
It is very important as a business person to strategize your business perfectly before taking action, today so many people have failed to become successful business men and women not because the business is not a good one or it does not give you profit but their are some little factors that can hinder a business..
SIGHT: Some people have a nice business but they don't sell out any of their goods months in months out what they have still remains with them most times they will tell you that somebody is manipulating them Omo nothing Is wrong check your location if it's not good change it.

Greed: Many people are very greedy when it comes to business they look for over gain this factor can hinder a business some people would have this goods that are getting bad for consumption but still keep it to be sold till it gets bad and at last it will be thrown away, who lost.

Every business person should learn how to strategize so well before going to set up a business.

sorting for the right location of s business is as important as starting the business itself. If you make wrong decision as it regards the place you are situating your business, you might end of locating business in an area that isn't viable for the kind of device you are rendering. But before considering the location of your business, I feel that the most important thing is to look out for your primary customers. Your primary customers could be those individual that you're certain will patronize you in the chosen location based on their unmet need. It would be foolish to start up a printing press in an environment that is not close to an institution or in an area where he demand of printed material is in high demand so for me, the inability to first of all study the need of an environment is the root course of business failure.

Another major factor is the lack of consistency. People usually treat their customers well during those time the business just started but after a while they start doing I don't care with their customers. One had to understand that what keeps a business running for long is those customers that will always come back to your business for any of their intended purchase and as long as you loose them out because of overfamiliarity wit them, you business will start going down if care is not taken
459  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Africa Football Discussion || Current Topic: AFCON 2023 on: January 25, 2024, 09:32:06 PM
. Osimhen had been quoted to say he would score in the encounter, I wonder how, seeing he only has one goal to his name.
considering his performance at the group stage and his inability to scoring a good number of goals, it's going to be jars for him to play well in the knockout stage because a lot of pressure and expectation will be in him and he wouldn't be relaxed enough to play the game effectively. But on the other hand, osimehn is very good at taking up challenge and I wouldn't be surprised to see him scoring against Cameronian team but we also need not underestimate the camoronian side because they are true fighter and don't give up all that easily. If abubakar is going to play in that match then Nigeria might not be proceeding above Saturday in the Afcon.

Th this is the game of football, anything can happen and either Nigeria or Cameron could win the match
460  Local / Off-topic (Naija) / Re: Do not overwork yourself on: January 25, 2024, 01:54:29 PM
Utilize your body for retirement so that you can fit in to handle your other phases in life of chasing income at your depreciations of man-power to activeness.
So many people are too eager uncontrollably chasing after income without undermining their ages and so as considering the health fitness of themselves at ages.
mehn! It's difficult to to control yourself as long as you're making money out of what you're doing oh. Normally we all know that health is necessary but as the country hard like eh, anything when you de do when we bring money come your table, people de wan hold am tight and follow am up as e de hot make after some time them no hear say the money no de come from that source again oh.

Another thing you should also understand is that old age will certainly come and you wouldn't have this strength that you have now to hustle when it finally comes and for that reason, so many persons see it as a necessity to use this moment when they are still young to hustle and invest into as many things as they can so they can retire early and wouldn't need to work till their fifties or sixties.

My advice is that if you're still very young, probably in your twenties, use that period to work and creat reasonable investment oh, if you too reason your health too much na that time when sickness go even come board oh, no be like say you go kill yourself say you de work hard but just no allow any form of satisfaction say you don get small money make you relax boss, de fire down stil de take one or two drugs when go help strengthen your system so you fit de more productive.

E no go de bad if you retire at 40 oh.
