I think 79 months is too long for a 10-20% return. ASICs will help, but with ASICs comes increased difficulty so...who knows what the payback time will be.

Your right, but if asics are added to current infrastructure and you get referrals under you, it could be and investment worthwile.
445  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: May 16, 2013, 04:28:27 PM

I'm interested in what happened in Africa in the 1990's and 2000's. In many parts there infrastructure is poor, and liable to being unmaintained, stolen, or destroyed by conflict. Many parts of Africa have good mobile phone networks, though, as they're relatively cheap to deploy and can be deployed in numbers to provide redundancy (or even just moved around on trucks). If you said to a villager in many parts of Africa that his mobile phone can generate $2 a day if it does Bitcoin, he'd probably offer his daughter to you.

I've had a couple more thoughts riffing on this idea over a glass of wine. Yes, it is after 5 where I am.  Smiley

Make the chips as cheap as possible, maybe even *pay* mobile phone makers to bundle them into handsets.

Consider collaborating with other leading Bitcoin miners to fund development. Design goals are the best performance possible with low power. It will be designed to go into a cheap phone, so sleek design is not so important, i.e., the phone might be a "brick" with a larger battery.

Great idea. The bitcoins on phone can be changed to credit automatically. A phne that makes its own free credit.
446  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Poll - besides btc/ltc which alt has potential (not just because you dump) on: May 16, 2013, 04:23:44 PM
Some of these coins have been around for awhile, some have not. Some may be pump and dump and others may not be.  Putting aside a strictly mining for profit perspective.  What do you feel has real potential?  There are some of these with strong community development and others have developers in the wind.  Vote for a coin that you believe in longevity and future adoption

Well said, I belief that doing the research and keeping upto date with coin trends will go a long way too. I believed ripple was going to be the new bitcoin with the fact it has nearly instant transfer but now that theirs issues with mt gox and the fact its centralised and has too much pump and dump potential so not so sure anymore. But I'll keep up with whats happening with it an current exchange services that are adopting it to see if it will make it.

Everyone should do the same before investing in alt coins.

I seen a post earlier saying that batch 2 avalon asics have started shipping.
449  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] BFL Singles (FPGA) for 9.5 BTC each on: May 16, 2013, 03:40:22 PM
All units are now either spoken for or listed on eBay; last auction scheduled to end Saturday night.  None available assuming all those orders complete successfully, but I will cancel ebay auctions for reasonable (look at the prices they've been selling for) buyout offers.

And the trade-in value is $600 ($599? idk, but definitely not $699) and the trade-in period goes until June 1st, 2013.
I've confirmed that with BFL multiple times; you can trade in 2 units for a 50 GH/s miner or 1 for the 25 GH/s miner.

Trade-in page: https://products.butterflylabs.com/fpga-single-upgrade-to-sc-single.html

But how long have you to wait?

452  Other / Off-topic / Re: I can't stop gambling what do I do on: May 16, 2013, 03:25:35 PM
I just lost 20 BTC with 50% dice what do I do please help me

I bet you 50 BTC( Theoritical Bitcoins) that you can't stop gambling. Smiley

But being serious, if you can find a service that timelocks your bitcoins for 6 months to a year youd be kinda sorted unless it turns out that you need it. Try pyramining. I've a link on bottom right of post. Once you put your money in, you won't be able to touch it until its fully paid back with minimum of 10% extra at the end of it.

But make sure you read through it and know that you want to invest.

Another alternative is to find someone in the bitcoin community that you trust and get them to hold to them until your withdraw for something worthwile.
453  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How long until I can post outside the newbie area? on: May 16, 2013, 03:16:32 PM
Just browse for a couple of days and you can post. What is it that so important you have to say it now anyway?

Wasn't being negative, you were Tongue Its not really that long Wink

Good luck, its wild out there.

Can be a frustrating few hours but you probably won't even think about it a week from now.

456  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How long can BTC-E Stay in Business as a black market company? on: May 16, 2013, 02:02:01 PM
They are from Soviet Russia.

And if they could improve their security with yubikey, allow special character in password and their graph, they would be even more popular than Gox
Agree but they also need to make it easier to deposit with credit card and etc, awkward trying to deposit in foreign language.

you are all spoiled and unthankful

gox has done for us and bitcoin more than any of us posting here

Fuck you. Go learn who you're talking to first, open your mouth second or not at all.

he is doing something, what are you all whiners doing to help or improve ?

I'm telling you to fuck off and go educate yourself.

I respect your points of view but theres no need to attack others. Just take it for granted that they don't understand the situation like you do.

Chill and be happy    Smiley
459  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: PSA: Bitcoin's survival and long term prospects depend on MtGox getting killed. on: May 16, 2013, 01:53:49 PM
Please do your part killing this offensive piece of shit scamsite. Never trade on MtGox. Not now, not ever. Every dollar you pay in taxes goes to feed some bureaucrat swine, pay for hospitals, education and bombers. Every dollar you pay in MtGox fees goes to feed swine exclusively.

Find a different exchange, trade there, never MtGox again.

Exchanges need greater decentralization.

The fact that more exchanges are appearing everyday, and all mt gox has to do is sit there and screw up is leading to this naturally.
