441  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Creating an altcoin that will never perform well on GPUs/FPGAs/ASICs on: May 28, 2014, 03:40:04 AM
It's called get a job coin. To mine it you have to do a human proof of work for 8 to 12 hours a day. The proof of work is tested by the work manager and if you hashed it successfully you will generate a block of coins on average every 14 days. It will even automatically convert to the currency of your citizenship and deposit right to your bank account. It is 100% gpu and asic resistant.

Only 4.7mhs per chip and you haven't even started tape out. Wow are you guys behind the 8 ball. There are competitors pulling 280khs per core and over 20mhs per chip. Good luck because they are completing tape out over the next 4 weeks with one shipping in July and another in august.

Is the speed confirmed?

Yes I work with one of the asic developers. They had their second sample batch clock in at 18mhs per chip. They sent back optimizations that should have it running at 20mhs. They should be ready to mask in 2 weeks.

OK update on the WebGUI, it will be available either at launch or patched in shortly after. Rest assured it will never come at any cost to our shipping schedule in any case.

More back pedaling. This is getting sad. One update after another correcting the previous update. First tty hey will not pander to competition then they start chasing hash rates then they aren't then there is cloud mining then there isn't then there is updated hash rates but no Web gui now there is a Web gui.

Still skeptical about the July ship date until the foundry gets paid. No chips, no vipers.
444  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Alpha Technology Litecoin (Scrypt) ASIC Miner on: May 27, 2014, 11:04:04 PM
If I had to place a bet, I'd say they're not getting the swift "remaining payments" that they thought they would, due to their cloudy transparency and impossible timeline. So they're telling people you'll get more hash, and free cloudhashing, and they're just adding more and more sugar on the deal.

With the chip design out of their hands, there's no logical way they could be upping the efficiency, unless their interpreter code was so far off the mark to begin with. The odds of which are very low.

^^^^this. Some foundries that do not require cash up front will require payment at milestones. That is why AT could ask for 30% for preorder and wait for the remaining 70%.

Now that the foundry hit a milestone they require the remaining funds before AT will receive chips. But because AT management was too greedy and didn't want to give up their huge profit margin they would not compete with KNC and Flower Technology by increasing their hashrates on vipers.

That was ATs undoing because people were not fulfilling payments. So AT was not going to get their chips. They still may not if people do not fulfill enough payments.

So this is the conundrum. I never trusted AT management. They seemed incompetent from the start. They actively slandered competition accusing them of scams and have made some very poor decisions that they back pedal from. Now their entire business hinges on getting the 70% in to get enough to pay the foundry so they can get the chips. While the new specs are a bonus I'm very skeptical of AT being able to deliver in July and be around 6 to 12 months from now.

449  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: POLL: Which community has more retards. DOGE or DRK? on: May 26, 2014, 10:07:14 PM
Is it most retards per capita or just total retards?

This is an important question.  At the start of DOGE there were many retards but they were balanced out by the number of savvy pump and dump traders that started it all.  At it's height DOGE had a tremendous amount of retards and the total retard quotient peaked as all the savvy pumpers started dumping.  Now that DOGE has collapsed it does not have many retards but the retard to smart guy ration is still high.  Mainly due to bagholders that are trying to get out of their losses.  Yes DOGE's retard factor is very high even if there are only a few retards left there.

DRK is absorbing many of the old DOGE retards.  While most of them are very retarded by volume there is a tremendous amount of retard there that is slightly offset by the savvy pump and dumpers.

So DOGE has a small number of full retards
and DRK has a high volume of slightly full retards.

What happens when they spend all our money and the entire batch of chips doesnt work? /bankruptcy?

Well there is the grey area.  Zeusminer is having problems because they promised certain specs but then changed them after the no refund window.  It screwed a lot of customers that now can't run the units because they don't have the capacity at their homes.  Does the product work, yes.  Is it what was quoted, no.  So that is when you have to get ahold of a lawyer.

If the go bankrupt them it is the competence of management that is at fault.  I believe they may be held liable because the sold a product that they could not produce.  SO again you contact a lawyer.

Yeah you guys were supposed to have something to show us.. and credit card options. With BTC down low, no functional device to show, and the fact you JUST NOW started tapeout... good luck getting folks to pay.

Folks, beware, tapeout on a first gen product will always have bumps and grinds.

Hmmm..Ithought they said tapeout was 6 wks ago? anyone? or am I way off base here?

If you read the update carefully they said they were starting the tape out

We are currently initiating tape-out at Global Foundries, meaning our chip design has been finalized and sent to the foundry for fabrication.

Then on the 5/13 update they said they are still in tape out.  They are no where near finished with tape out.  They have another month at least.

Whilst the chips are being taped-out we want to assure you we are working diligently to make certain all other aspects of development are ready for the final stage of production.

Sorry to say but they will be lucky to start shipping the beginning of July.  My guess is mid or late July.  Plus they are doing assembly by themselves in the UK.  How many units can 3 guys crank out in a day?

Fiaz stated they paid extra (20% I think it was) for a faster taping.

BTW - You posted your links wrong, have a closer look....

Thanks I updated my links.

Yes Fiaz posted that they paid for faster tape out.  Buy he also specifically posted that they paid more for bulk sample chips.  Faster tape out for 28nm means more on the 90 day side than the 120 day side of tape out.  That is what is meant by faster for tape out on 28nm die.  Usually this is done by eliminating the additional rounds of design optimizations.  They send you a sample batch, you don't like the quality or performance.  You ask for changes and they tape out another batch and sent them to you for testing.  Usually 3 rounds are paid for before you approve the chips for mass production.

What I am concerned about is the bulk order of sample chips.  These sample chips are the first prototypes sent from the foundry for the designers to test for quality.  The reason manufacturers pay for bulk orders of sample chips is to get better statistical numbers of the quality of fabrication.  This allows them to redesign and optimize and sent it back to the foundry to get better quality chips.  What Fiaz is says is that they will be using the sample chips as production chips to ship out to customers.  If the chips come back as low quality, high percentage of failures per wafer they might still send those out as production chips to customers and never tell them.
452  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: why do you fear scrypt-asics? on: May 24, 2014, 06:45:46 PM
I think there are several reasons.

Many miners have already committed a large amount of capital (relative) to GPU mining.  Having to sell off their units or buy more to keep up is frustrating.  This may be the first time they have been so close to computer hardware manufacturing.  As consumers they buy a computer and try to squeeze the life out of it.  Most computer equipment goes obsolete in 3-5 years.  Many will extend that to 5-10 years.  Having to upgrade every 6-12 months is hard to stomach.

Everyone wants to be the biggest miner.  They realize that there are others ahead of them that have grown giant farms and have built up massive capital.  By switching to ASICs the big miners get bigger.  The small miners would get bigger but I think they do not reinvest their profits from mining back into growing their farms so they fall behind or remain stagnant in growth.

It will crush a lot of crap coins.  Many crap coins have very low network hashrates.  The ASIC will end up 51% attacking, time warping them which will pull them off of the exchanges.  I think this is a good thing.  But not to investor who bought into these coins.  To make a new coin will mean it may get attacked by ASICs at launch.

Fear of change.  As much as we like the description that cryptocurrencies are having to the global economy we do not want to be disrupted ourselves.

I just noticed the pages for the Viper Products have been updated with cloud mining compensation details:

200Mh/s for the Viper 90
https://alpha-t.net/product/viper-scrypt-miner-90mhs/

Minimum 200 Mh/s free hashing from our cloud mining service (The reason behind this is to ensure we will always be able to match competition even after delivery so our customers have can a certain level of assurance that we are committed to their ROI. This will not be until after delivery and we currently don’t have an ETA so for now it is simply ‘ as soon as possible)

40Mh/s for the Viper 18
https://alpha-t.net/product/scrypt-asic-miner/

Minimum 40 Mh/s free hashing from our cloud mining service (The reason behind this is to ensure we will always be able to match competition even after delivery so our customers have can a certain level of assurance that we are committed to their ROI. This will not be until after delivery and we currently don’t have an ETA so for now it is simply ‘ as soon as possible)

Not such a bad deal, of course once they deliver miners + cloud mining.

Is this for 1 year or for ever?

It's temporary.  Zeusminer only gave cloudhashes to customers for 2 month leases as a compensation.  You'll probably get anywhere from 2-6 months at most.  Remember that they want to resell those cloudhash units.  They never wanted to be in the business of running a cloudmining operation.  It is going to cost them a lot to run it in the UK.  What are you paying for electricity on the island these days?

when will the hosted hashing begin?

About a month after shipping. And it is only temporary. So it's not like you keep the hashes.

er temporary...?? explain further please!

They are giving their customers mining contracts.  You don't own the miners in the cloud.  They haven't defined the terms of the contracts yet but they will have a limited duration.  You will have to pay to renew them.

Looks like alpha tech decided to go with a mediocre product. They tried to compete with the big boys and provide huge hashes but couldn't keep up in scale so they decided to try to get units or sooner but at 28nm they couldn't develop as fast as Zeus miner so Zeus ended up beating alpha by 6 weeks.

By the time all the Zeus rigs get shipped difficulty will be too high to get any ROI back from vipers even with this free cloud hashing they are offering temporarily. What a waste.  And they had such a lead over everyone else.

And good luck with tape out. You stated end of April. Usually 28nm tape it takes 90 days.  But you decided on taking the risk that those sample batches will have quality chips. At 28nm odd are good sample batches will have a lot of defects but you still plan to install and ship them to customers.  Wow the balls.

Customers... Keep an eye out on alpha terms and conditions.  They may cut you down to 90 days if they feel that the chips may have caused high failure rate.

I think not, but yes chinese factory are ridiculous... this is not all the factory, they have another biggest place, next time i will send some pics

for the hashrate, i think 150 mhs will the best for few month...
after , in september, have the 300mhs of KNC, so they will do something for have better... this is sure  Grin

I know several projects public and private that will have 300 to 500 mhs 4u units out by July. Public sellers are charging $6k for 300 mhs. I'm estimating by end of July there will be another 100GHs on the network easily.

$6K for 300MH/s sound interesting. Would be great to know how much power it would need to get those 300MH/s out of the machine.
