4401  Economy / Securities / Re: [GLBSE] TyGrr Tech on: March 21, 2012, 07:24:02 PM
Yea votes: 97

Nay votes: 43

On holding the 50% of the income for hardware.  Closer than I would like, but not many votes in yet.

Also new motion

Should TyGrr Tech create and sell 150 new shares at 3BTC each to raise capital for either FPGAs or 7990s. Second vote to be had later if this one is successful.

5 or so days to vote. I do wonder what Kluge thinks about this as he owns a significant amount.
Voted. Was putting off voting on cutting dividends. Instead voted to try issuing more IPO shares. Hopefully, it goes well.

ETA: When someone asks why the opposite happened -- I changed my mind, but am too tired to explain what I was thinking right now. For my own referral: Mentions in the marketplace, stocks need growth strategy. To feel confident, should be built in, not unknown sudden bursts of growth. Personally, I disagree. I'd prefer to have a voice in when TyGrr grows, but my preference is irrelevant -- TyGrr is its own entity, and ensuring a larger tent of people are satisfied enough to place bid orders is ultimately all that matters to me, a share-holder.

Do you know the price for land on Enceladus?
4403  Other / Archival / Re: Bitcoin Rig Warehouse Project (Finance People + Bitcoin Miners) vs. Time on: March 21, 2012, 04:09:55 AM
And the difference (other than terminology)?
Many GPU miners will likely drop out, so difficulty should decrease.
In exchange for FPGAs?
Maybe a few, but the MH/$ of FPGAs (along with other issues in buying FPGAs) is probably low enough to shove a lot of people out altogether. Casual miners in particular -- people who would otherwise only use their graphics cards for gaming, will probably notice that even with reasonable electricity rates (~$.11/KWh) would be losing a significant amount mining BTC. I'd think it reasonable to assume difficulty will drop "a bit" (10-20% within a month of block reward halving), so I very much doubt the revenues from mining will effectively halve when block reward drops.

There is a fool-proof lightweight client here: http://ecdsa.org/electrum/

ETA from the future: Hm, I guess it really isn't fool-proof. ... Or maybe it is?
4406  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Magazine on: March 21, 2012, 01:05:33 AM
I still want my magazine =(
I got a U-LINE catalog this morning, so I can wait another month.  Cool

(But just one more month, then I have to go back to reading deodorant labels)
4407  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] Old videogame systems & games (+Pokemon cards) on: March 21, 2012, 12:49:36 AM
I've gone through about half the boxes, and couldn't find the Dreamcast. I'm pretty sure I have (at least, had) one somewhere. I'll look deeper tomorrow.

I did find an Odyssey 2 system. However, the bag game cartridges I thought may be for it don't fit (they're a bit smaller than what the Od2 system accepts), so I'm assuming they are indeed Atari games.

I also found a PSX system (the older style, I believe) with one controller and one memory card.

Found an N64 with the expanded RAM module in, with a few games and couple controllers.

Finally, found an NES system (no idea where controllers or games ran off to).

(updating OP to reflect info)

P.S. I'm assuming nobody's interested in individual pokemon cards. If someone wants any or all of them (there are ~200 more I didn't include in list -- they are largely duplicates and no holos), PM me within a couple hours - otherwise selling for next-to-nothing to someone else. Sold! Smiley

wow so safety and anonymity don't go hand in hand for you, nice
I walk to a quiet rural suburb and stand around. Not anonymous, but pretty safe.

I drive a out a couple hours to the "bad part" of Detroit and wear a horse-mask and stand around. Anonymous, but not safe.
4409  Economy / Lending / Re: DoubleIcaras/Alexander Adams Collections Thread on: March 20, 2012, 11:06:53 PM
doesn't it all boil down to whether the info that you have on DI in rl is correct or not, he's a scammer so depending on how bright he is then a lot of that info may be just him doing identity theft & dissimulation, if you can establish his rl ID then I'd say he was doomed - a bunch of anons who know that for sure, so that there's no repercussions to them for whatever dastardly revenge they may plot & even execute, but after the fact looks too late to me to be sure of who an online person may be in rl when you're dealing with a con artist & it would be wrong to persecute whoever's ID he may be spoofing if that's the case

in future when lending over $1,500 or whatever it was, insist that the perp (sry - person) gets on Skype to live shows their mug, plus ID like driver's license/passport/ID card for screen shots, utility bill for 'know where you live', bank statement - this should not show -£1,000s btw, proof of work if the loan is to fund an event etc

anyway, horse's (BTC) bolted - live n' learn

I think we don't just move on. We gotta rape the shit out of this guy. Make an example out of him and let people know that we rape people.
o.O

No. The motto in the Skype lending room is "Quickest Vulture Gets the Carcass" not "We gonna rape defaulters." That said, when I was going to sleep last night, I thought about cutting off the head of a dear for a Youtube video, then with me wearing the fresh-cut head, then sending that to all potential lendees to seem intimidating. I'm still considering it.
4410  Economy / Lending / Re: [WANTED] Secured Loan for Apartment Deposit on: March 20, 2012, 10:56:25 PM
I think he's talking about incentive as in "How does the landlord make any money", and the truth is, the "free" apartments I'm talking about are typically much more expensive than what I mentioned, but I know a few places that the rent would be about $100 with a $20k deposit.

Rule of thumb in Korea is, larger deposit = cheaper rent.
As long as the asset isn't depreciating significantly in value (which it likely won't [outside of normal wear & tear] given the huge deposit), there is very little risk of the landlord losing money, so revenues can be much lower while still keeping a healthy profit factoring in bad tenants across many samples -- similar to wanting FPGAs over GPUs for mining. That lower risk of bad tenants probably also relieves the landlord of stress, time consumption, and sudden needs to spend funds on repair in case of property damage.

I still think you're missing his (and my) original point.

Normally, you would pay rent. That is where the landlord's income comes from. I think the question he was asking was "how does the landlord make any money?". And the answer was my response.
I think you're expecting me to be able to comprehend what I read.  Smiley Reading the OP thoroughly (I originally thought it only said "near-free"), no, I don't see how that makes sense for landlords, unless maybe they really regret getting into landlording but can't sell the properties.

Not commenting on this other than to say that I also live in Korea, and Matt's description of the various rental/deposit systems here is pretty much spot on. So if you're sitting there wondering WTF is up with that, well, welcome to our life.

What is the landlord's incentive for this? On the figures Matthew posted, the landlord would need to earn around 20-25% p.a. on the deposit to break even with lost rent compared with a "normal" lease. How much is the standard risk-free interest rate in Korea at the moment?
An unsavory tenant would likely not destroy a dwelling if he has $20k to lose for doing so. However, with lower amounts, the value of being lazy & otherwise unsavory may exceed the value of the security deposit.

Similar to punishment through law. If the punishment is $250, I don't care too much about possibly violating it and taking my chances being caught. If the punishment is 10 years in rape-ville, I would not take a chance at violating the law except in extreme circumstances.

I am wondering if anyone who had given a loan to DoubleIcaras even bothered reading this thread:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=60181

He tried to scam me and after it didn't work and I tried to expose his attempt, he started making false accusations - it would have been more than obvious to anyone who had read that thread that he was a scammer, or at the very least, untrustworthy.

Not a case of not bothering to read, but I didn't read all 228 posts of his history.  And the search function isn't especially useful.  Thank you for point it out.  Presumably the delivery address will match the one Burt has (you might want to pm him).
Vitaliy,

Patrick was a bit confused.  Kluge is in charge of this collection thread, I am in charge of a different one.  So, when you get a chance could you please PM the delivery address you have to Kluge.  It would help us greatly to verify we have the correct address.

Thanks!
I am no longer heading up the collections. I can turn over the letter written up along with all collected info. DI's dad hasn't replied to my contact requests, and some of the collected information is no longer valid. So, I don't want to send sensitive information to the address we have for him. There's now question whether or not "DI" is "DI," and I've been unable to verify DI's dad is DI's dad.

Can't you just release his sensitive information to the public? I mean this guy did scam a shitton of money from you guys.
I could, but I will not. Another DI who is the "real" DI claims his identity is being stolen. I'm about 80% certain BTCTalk DI is the "real" DI, but that's enough to make me uncomfortable. I am willing to turn over the information to another lender and their standards for dox'ing someone can be whatever they like.
4415  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] Home-made granola on: March 20, 2012, 09:01:06 PM
My order is in.

Here's to it being as good as I hope!
Confirmed & marked  Smiley

The first batches (10 lbs. worth!) are about to be baked. Right now, we're planning on shipping tomorrow (ETA: Will be shipped on 3/23). I do not want to ship any after that until reviews are in confirming or denying the tastiness of the granola, so if you'd like in on the first batch, please contact me within ~2 hours after this post. you're out of luck.  Wink

We're assuming the granola will stay fresh one week after shipped. After that, it will likely start to go stale. If anyone gets stale granola, we'll rethink, re-bake, and re-ship at no charge. We can always vacuum-seal the bags of granola if necessary, then put those vacuum-sealed bags in a reclosable bag. This makes everything a little less elegant and a bit more costly, however.

Also please note the labeling on the first batch will not be what's on the "real" product. It'll likely be an unlabeled bag, maybe with a sticker noting it contains nuts if we can find some in the house. In case anyone had ideas otherwise, the granola does indeed contain nuts. If there's interest, we can make nut-free batches which'd be significantly cheaper since almonds are relatively spendy.

Cheers & thanks for everyone's patronage!  Smiley

ETA: If anyone's interested, ingredient % by volume and sources of ingredients is as follows (edit: These % numbers are incorrect. It used the generic, much runnier honey [we need more of the thicker honey to get the right consistency, which is fine - I was worried some people may be used to sugary granola, anyway], and was measured by volume because that's how I buy it. We've weighed everything on an industrial scale and I'll update these #s soon):
Oats (sold in bulk locally @ unionized store, unsure of origin) - ~33%
Almonds (multiple mixed sources) - ~22%
Sunflower seeds (certified organic, locally-grown) - ~16%
Pumpkin seeds (locally-grown) - ~11%
Flax seeds (boxed, grown & packaged in US) - ~6.5%
Honey & brown sugar (honey grown in UT by Bitcoin-accepting Bees Brothers, brown sugar comes from a bag, unsure of origin) - ~5.5% each
Soy oil, vanilla extract, cinnamon (soy oil & vanilla produced in US, unsure of source on cinnamon) - <.35% each

Will get a better handle on where all ingredients come from in the future.

P.S. The next item we're expecting to make is crackers, followed by cheese some time in Summer (once the Amish start to populate a nearby selling area)

I might be interested in the Dreamcast - my brother and I have a lot of Dreamcast games which became unplayable when our console kicked the bucket.

What games do you have for it?
Sorry -- I meant to post in this thread a few minutes after you posted but didn't have a good opportunity to go spelunking in the basement. I'll look tomorrow. I believe there's a game relating to dragoons, maybe a version of Crazy Taxi, and maybe a game involving jet-skis. I'll give you a list tomorrow after I check (too many people sleeping around where I need to look atm).

Cheers.
4418  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Simone Farrow, how did she get caught? on: March 20, 2012, 06:06:12 AM
Used 19 different aliases, allegedly including using the identity of an out-of-contact daughter, one other member of the group of seven alleged involved killed self after USG contacted her (Finally - positive results from the Drug War!). She claims her name was being used by a criminal organization, and went into hiding (skipped bail) because her previous relationships involved "underworld leaders" who she claimed threatened her because she was being tried. Can't find details beyond that.
