4401  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Devcoin(DVC) Source Code Updated to Bitcoin 0.8.x on: December 24, 2013, 09:42:14 PM
I appreciate this discussion, but I think it is too soon to talk about a possible change in the way Devcoin operates. Currently, it is still quite small (although very widely known) and young (only about 2 years). The inflation part has been huge during this period, but this will drop below 10% very soon (the next few years). If Crypto's live up to their full potential, 10% annual inflation will be a mere dip in the growth of value.

From my perspective, Devcoin has a future as prime example of supporting a cause directly but anonymously. It could be a role model of a 'charity coin'. Usable as currency, but in support of a commonly felt cause (is the Red Cross reading this?). It should be fancy in the future to use Devcoins (e.g., to pay for beverage and food with Devcoins at the big annual tech conferences), geeks knowing that they support their own. All this in connection with a much more valuable Devcoin, so more and prestigious projects can be funded.

We just need to find and cross the 'chasm' to make this happen.

Addition: as I wrote here, I think it is important to explain in more detail how Devcoin works in terms of total cap (=none) versus reality (it won't be a problem in the future).

..., this is nothing in serious value to some of you. But to a new miner who has been working hard to attribute to 1.2mil coins, and actually start to see profit just get tossed, is frustrating.

All i can tell you is I had my fair share of misfortune and f@* ups in this field. Setbacks will make you mentally much stronger in the future. I am grateful for what I got and whats still ahead of us. We are still only in 1993.

Just keep on mining Doge and have fun.
4403  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DOGE] Dogecoin - very currency - many coin - wow - v1.2 Released on: December 24, 2013, 07:33:42 AM
Seriously fuck Cryptsy. I use to stick up for this garbage website. went from 1.2mil coins to nothing. All lost because cancelled transactions are still yanking funding even though I have no open orders. Can't refund anything, nothing. Fucking hate this website.

And then the kid goes and adds another coin today? Seriously, I'd like to meet him in person. How can someone make such a good website, and be that dense in the head?

I'm tempted to quit mining just because of losing my 1.2mil coins.

If anyone is willing to reinterest me and donate it'd be appreciated.

So you sold 1+ million Doges for good BTC and now look for donations? Am I missing something?

yes, click on the Cash Out button for dodge, my current balance is 360+ and when I click on it it says:

Balance too low! DOGE Network fee of 25 will be deducted!  Are you sure?

This was definitely not there before a few days ago. multipool has some serious explaining to do...

It has been announced that a 25 Doge fee applies to payouts below 1,000.
4405  Economy / Speculation / Re: Analysis never ends on: December 23, 2013, 11:35:45 PM
I understand bitcoin and I'm looking to get as many coins as I can with a given amount of fiat

Then put in orders @ $350 and wait what happens.

Cryptsy deposits still take ages. Oh well, at least we have exchanges that support Dogecoin (and price seems to rise right now).

Down deep, people don't like creative types. [...]

No. The one thing that most people absolutely fear is .... CHANGE.

They would rather complain but stick to their current miserable but known situation than to accept ... change.

Change is fear
Change is uncertain
Change is doubt

This will cause the slow advancement of crypto currency instead of a 2 year walk in the park. That's why I am so grateful for Dogecoin. It takes away the fear while showing the potential.
4409  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The new Alt production line ongoing trend on: December 23, 2013, 08:08:20 PM
Many altcoins and constant death/birth thereof is essential for crypto's survival. Once this thing picks up speed, I expect the value of altcoins to increase dramatically. People will be moving normal' money into trusted networks with fixed parameters. Just wait until the crisis hits harder and/or crypto becomes more mainstream (sending to e-mail address instead of 13-digit address, total mobile integration/automatic - behind the scene - conversion, single point of contact (a bank?), etc).

Altcoins do not have to be used from point to point, as long as people consider their network to have value. I foresee exchange of coins hidden from normal users when they pay to an e-mail address (or whatever other means), and just see a universal number. It all needs to be figured out yet, but - again - Dogecoin shows how quickly people forget it's just a bunch of 0s and 1s.

Therefore, I think altcoins are essential to crypto's success and survival. It will create much more resilience. I mean, even Dogecoin can suddenly pop up and reach a very broad target despite its clear ridiculous background. It's the prime example of power of the masses. The masses will learn this soon enough.

It's going to be nothing or everything. I think it's going to be mind blowing just like The Internet.

Personally, I like Zetacoin now because of its 1 year coin release followed by the relative low inflation rate thereafter. It will be interesting to see how it goes once coin creation tapers off after the first year. So much to learn, So WoW. Many love. Such fear.

I'll guess that sums up the immediate forecast the next few days.

On a different note, Doge's behaviour is the same as other new popular coins. Its hard to go through the whole bottoming process until the next rise. Could take months.
4413  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Client Testing Award on: December 23, 2013, 08:02:54 AM
Testing 0.8.5 devcoin windows client (https://github.com/sidhujag/devcoin/tree/master/dist/Windows32)

Today Sidhujag has updated the devcoin windows client from 1.0.0 to 1.0.1 (Devcoin-qt_V1.0.1.zip).
He has added dvcstable06/dvcstable07 to dns seed nodes.
Strangely you must choose the RAW button if you want download the zip file  Embarrassed
Extract the zip file in any folder and execute it.
After launch go to Help then debug window for viewing block chain counting  Smiley
Everything is perfectly running on Windows 8.

Cyke64, you are the first person to have written a post about installing Sidhujag's client, so you get 4 shares. Please send me a devcoin address from your computer and I'll add you to the bounty list. The next client testing bounty is 3 shares.

I did a write up at Devtome: http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=testing_updated_devcoin_windows_client

The new client really behaves well. I love to see it linked via Devcoin.org once all small corrections have been made.

4416  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Devcoin(DVC) Source Code Updated to Bitcoin 0.8.x on: December 22, 2013, 09:14:12 PM
user weisoq sent me: "On your new build, not sure if fees are working correctly. I sent wekkel 10 dvc to test his install (which subtracts the flat 1dvc from my balance, so 11 dvc sent). He seems to have sent me back 10, but I've received 9.5 (so I assume the client has subtacted the fee from the send amount rather than balance, and not sure why it's 0.5 dvc rather than 1?)

It may have something to do with those 10dvc being the only coins in his new wallet, but even then why 0.5, so thought you might want to check."

I got 10 DVC from you and had no other balance. I have no voluntary payment fee configured for the client. The client demanded a minimum 0.5 DVC fee for the return payment. Hence, 9.5 DVC available and 0.5 as payment fee. See details of the payment here
