4421  Other / Meta / Re: Is majority doing merit abuse here ? on: March 26, 2018, 10:26:32 AM
Many profiles may be involved. I am sure that if I give just one hour on this, I can point out at least 100 such more profiles.

Compile your list and then ask someone on Default Trust to review it and tag them if they are convinced that it is an abusive use of the Merit system.

This will die out fairly soon as they will run out of Merit to abuse and most of them are not capable of writing anything likely to get Merit legitimately.

RESERVED.

I like to be on page 2.
4423  Other / Meta / Re: LoyceV's Merit data analysis on: March 26, 2018, 08:47:40 AM
Numbers are still skewed by the initial "airdrop". As LoyceV mentioned there are 17800 "source" sMerits being generated, but in the last 30 days nearly twice as much has been sent, so it's not quite clear if we can make any conclusions as to who's doing their work or not:

If those source Merit are then passed on the eventual total will be double the amount. I agree it is too early to draw any conclusion but I think we're getting near the point that the airdrop Merit has mostly been spent.
4424  Other / Meta / Re: Full Member thanks to the Merit system. on: March 26, 2018, 08:30:23 AM
I still haven't 0 merits. Can you guys share with me the way you earn merits?

Have a look at the OP's post history and then compare it to your own. Also visit https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;stats=recent regularly and have a look at the posts that get awarded Merit.
4425  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: FreeBitco.in - Win free Bitcoins every hour! on: March 26, 2018, 08:03:22 AM
I would also like to know if anyone knows anyone that actually ever rolled 10000 and got 200$? I knew is long shot but at least basic roll gave sth. and now we get same as when BTC ATH Cheesy

Lately to me it looks like is more like some kinda messed up decision where they didnt:
1. even inform us(or still give us any reply in 2 weeks is going on),
2. tell us how they make difference who gets 100% who 75% and who 50% of basic roll.

Well it was(is free) i got few bucks richer lol. I should just get bot somewhere so he keep on collecting manually i was doing hoping BTC will rise eventually but now that looks shitty also Cheesy

There's a thread where big winners post to claim a $5 bonus https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1850855.0
There are some $200 winners in there.

I'm sure Bitcoin will increase in value again so collect as much as you can now while it is cheap.
4426  Other / Meta / Re: Clearly merit farming/trading is happening. on: March 25, 2018, 05:09:00 PM
1) The merits which got wasted in the whole process. Is there anything being done to compensate for those merit points ? I am sure that the admin must have thought about creating a system in accordance with the number of merits required to be in circulation. Did he consider these abuses cases while panning that ?

He's been increasing the number of Merits available through the sources.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;stats=sources

2) Why not have some restriction related to the maximum number of merits allowed per post ?

There is a restriction of a maximum 50 Merit that can be awarded by one account to another account per month.
4427  Other / Meta / Re: Clearly merit farming/trading is happening. on: March 25, 2018, 04:48:10 PM
If you clearly understood how merit works than you would not have made this thread, eventually account farmers/traders will run out of merit and it won't be possible to do.

I just hope that this merit thing is transferred over to the new fourm

If he can get any of them tagged red then there will be fewer spammers polluting the forum. That's got to make it worthwhile. Sure they'll run out of sMerit, but why not take the opportunity to get rid of a few of them?
4428  Other / Meta / Re: Clearly merit farming/trading is happening. on: March 25, 2018, 03:51:27 PM
This piece of work left wondering how on earth the author managed to collect 50 Merit.

they add cloudflare to protect the fourm from Dos attake
your words is true but added the cloudeflare better than Fourm will Down

When the forum is giving everything to general public without being a member then why to hide scammers dox?

I'm having a bit of a guess here but I think it might be to stop search engines and archive sites crawling it.

4430  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-03-23]Regulators to Close Binance in Japan. Binance Moving to EU on: March 25, 2018, 01:42:42 PM
not a japanese citizen, but what difference does it make for an international exchange verificationwise?
maybe there are some really stringent KYC rules in place and that was the cause of the move
Binance is a very good exchange, huge potential, hundreds of thousands customers joining
and them moving away from Japan will hurt the country more than the exchange,I am sure about it

I think a lot of this is actually about where an exchange is located. It must obey local laws of any country it has a physical presence in. The original story was that they were going to be shut down for operating in Japan without a licence but that has been refuted by Changpeng Zhao, Binance CEO who just says that they are in dialogue with the authority. They have been expanding and I think opening new offices elsewhere (Taiwan and Malta soon) has been misread as meaning they are leaving Japan.

4431  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: They are coming with a new way to attack Crypto currencies! on: March 25, 2018, 12:59:35 PM
The article made it sound like a big deal, but it's really just some guy making a mountain out of a molehill, saying illicit cryptomining is going to take over entire networks. Viruses that can do that have been in the wild for decades now. No one should be taking what he wrote seriously.

That aspect of the article made the guy seem very new to the whole thing. It was as you say very big when BTC was minable using a CPU and recently made a comeback due to CPU minable altcoins being available now. After the Coinhive JavaScript Monero miner was released it took the antivirus vendors and Microsoft a couple of weeks to block it. That's not a reason to ban blockchains.
4432  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: They are coming with a new way to attack Crypto currencies! on: March 25, 2018, 11:45:34 AM
Their strategy is simple :

But who are they?

I do agree with the premise of your argument but I don't see much political pressure or action in this direction yet. I even recall a former head of the SEC saying 'We're not in the business of banning assets'.

It is something worth watching out for, but I think the attack vector is more on the exchange of crypto for fiat than banning Permissionless Blockchains.

4434  Other / Meta / Re: Let Decay Default Merits on: March 25, 2018, 10:43:48 AM
Of course, my biggest argument is that we may not have enough merit getting generated to go around, especially if all members feel the need to collect it.

I would agree with that and theymos has gradually been turning the tap further on.

Quote
There are 80 merit sources with a total merit generation of up to 17800 sMerit per 30 days

That's been gradually increased since 35 sources at the start. It's just my personal guestimate but I think those numbers need to be doubled to make it really work well.
4435  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: I thought Segwit eliminated AsicBoost on: March 25, 2018, 10:23:15 AM
Plus isn't AsicBoost patented technology which causes an unfair environment on Asic producers and miners in an already not so fair mining environment?

There's a lot more information over in the DragonMint 16TH/S halongmining.com thread. It's pretty long but there's a lot of good info buried in there mainly from -ck who has been writing the drivers for them.

Bitmain had it hidden from the public and had the patent for it meaning no one else could use the technology giving them an unfair advantage. The halong group paid dearly for the patent to buy it and then opened it up with the blockchain defensive patent license - this license means anyone can use the asicboost technology provided they don't patent anything else in their hardware. Think about it - they paid for the license, only to open it up for everyone. No one has an unfair technology advantage now.
4436  Economy / Services / Re: [FULL] ChipMixer Signature Campaign | 0.00075 BTC/post on: March 25, 2018, 08:21:06 AM
you guys are fucking nerds.

I approve.

And proud of it  Wink

Thank you for the bonus DarkStar_, that took me by surprise. I guess I've been spending far too much time on the forum lately.
4437  Other / Meta / Re: Let Decay Default Merits on: March 25, 2018, 07:20:59 AM
Not a bad idea OP. This will really help purge the shitposters, how would you deal with member ranks? Would a legendary move down if he didn't maintain the required merits?

I'm pretty sure I remember theymos posting that he would not consider any system that leads to people getting de-ranked. So the only way this would be implemented would result in people having a Merit score less than their rank requires.

This would be a decent way of purging the shitposters from every level

I'm coming round to the idea that employing more moderators and getting a lot stricter on shitposting is the only way to clear them out of here.
4438  Other / Meta / Re: Image proxy in post's content, why? it's slow and many images don't show up on: March 25, 2018, 07:07:37 AM
It seems nobody answered your question yet. The reason is for privacy. As it is likely that most people using this forum own some Bitcoin posting an image would be a good way to harvest IP addresses if a proxy wasn't used.

As to the reason for the slow loading and/or failure to load I don't know what causes that but I really only recall it starting to be a problem after the time of the switch to CloudFlare. That might just be a coincidence though.
4439  Economy / Economics / Re: HODL mentality destroys the currency aspect of Bitcoin on: March 24, 2018, 03:18:55 PM
The only way to earn profit in this fashion is to sell your coins to someone else at an extra price. You don't have to be an Einstein to understand that this process cannot keep on forever, and someone will necessarily be left standing holding the bag as in musical chairs.

I would expect Einstein to be smart enough to know that there are different possible scenarios as to how this plays out. We don't know whether Bitcoin will become a sustainable long-term asset or not. That's why it is a high-risk investment with possible high returns or losses. To say that the value of an asset cannot continue to rise in dollar terms is simply not true and flies in the face of data.
4440  Other / Meta / Re: Forum ranks/positions/badges (What do those shiny coins under my name mean?) on: March 24, 2018, 02:56:42 PM
Yes, that is what I said. I don't remember encountering this problem before the switch to CloudFlare. That doesn't mean it is related and it could be a coincidence. The real point is it happens a lot at the moment and it needs fixing.

This problem was long before the switch to CloudFlare. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2119569.msg24652414#msg24652414

I don't think that's the same issue from reading the responses. That was fixed by refresh browser or clearing cookies. Also, there was no mention of the slow loading that I have only experienced since CloudFlare. I have just tried loading the OP to this thread on another browser and I get exactly the same issue. I'm sorry if that doesn't convince you but I'm sure there's something wrong here that needs fixing.
