4421  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Holy shit Binance leverage trading is COMPLICATED AF!!! on: April 10, 2020, 01:39:25 AM
That's either a question for their support or bitcoin is now worth 43k€ 😂...

Unless I wasn't meant to so 350/0.008. Does it change to be different values off the daily stat? Is the 350 something else entirely maybe and they've just badly designed the ui....
4422  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why is it bad to store 24 words from Ledger hardware wallet in password manager? on: April 10, 2020, 01:31:00 AM
If you can, use at least 8 random words, there are examples everywhere of how to do this...

Can you send me some links on this. I cannot find anything on adding words to increase security of your 24 word seed

No I mean for generating your password for keepass.
Here's an example of generating a master password for a password manager: https://youtu.be/Pe_3cFuSw1E
4423  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Mining pool with increasing payouts. on: April 09, 2020, 10:18:25 PM

I think you are posting in wrong thread or did not read right.

If you are posting here about this project...

Stakecube very legitimate. Withdrawned 500$ of doge instantly.
Bkex one of top exchanges currently earning eos and ltc interest there.

Idea is to use mining income and stake it on one of those platforms and give staking income back to miners.
Main stake stays on those platforms and earns interest. Miners increase main stake. Staking income is bigger next day. Miners get better payouts. And so the circle goes..
In the start payouts would be low but they would increase.

What about defi? Share... Want to learn...

So they account you hold on stakecube lets you input your payment address on bkex? So they can't get access to your funds, they're just paid into the account?

And you can withdraw your capital at any time once it's invested on bkex? If so then it may be good to use but if you don't control your account there's a chance they'll exit scam on you (that was my point)... So take caution there
4424  Economy / Economics / Re: I think we can take pride that we didn't need a stimulus bill for btc on: April 09, 2020, 10:08:13 PM
Bitcoin is still more of an investment rather than a currency so it will never require a stimulus for it to rebound. But i also think that this incoming bitcoin halvening is somehow called a great stimulus because it will generally make the crypto community experience a price surge not just bitcoin alone but definitely potential altcoins too.

Both stocks and currencies, and maybe some other assets can get support from the government, so it's not exclusive to currencies, they just get support much more often, since it's generally the job of a central bank to participate on the market and support the currency if it's falling. This is why fiat currencies are more stable than crypto.

As for halvening, it's not a "stimulus" in a sense that we are talking here, it's just a cause of the price movement.

People also expect the central banks to bailout people and countries so its not surprising that currencies will do a bit better at these times anyway either also. The halving is just a change of inflation, and as I've said may be expected to be priced in already.

More and more people are actually looking at bitcoin differently than they were a couple years back. Despite having the image of a highly-volatile asset, people are now taking their money into bitcoin despite the world being in turmoil as of late. This is the beauty of decentralization that bitcoin has to offer: it needs no help from governments or any banking entities to get back on its feet. From sub-$4k a couple weeks back, we managed to get into $7k at this time of writing, while companies listed in NASDAQ are still struggling hard to bounce back. We rebounded harder than most stocks out there despite being unproven to the eyes of many.

Is there proof of this? I'm curious if there are actually any links of random people looking for investments in crypto due to other market conditions or if its just speculation at this point.
either way its always interesting to find new investors joining the scene this early one... As long as they're not here with the promise the halving will bring a goldmine on their earnings and they'll pull out when it doesn't then the next few years will definitely be interesting...
4425  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Mining pool with increasing payouts. on: April 09, 2020, 09:39:25 PM
Have you looked into the legitimacy of these sites? And the chance they're a ponzi?

If they only have to pay you 8% of what you mine over the year (it'll be much less) then I don't see how this is a good idea.

Or can you withdraw from the first site and have you tested it. Bitcoins only been going 12 years... Sites don't stay up for long and you'll need 11 in order to get at least your initial mining rewards back. Defi might be better...
4426  Other / Meta / Re: Flags (support/opposition date) on: April 09, 2020, 09:26:23 PM
I don't think it is. Flag orders seem to go in order of most to least trusted based on your own trust settings too I think.

You could suggest it to Theymos or use the time they left negative feedback if they gave it at the same time...
4427  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why is it bad to store 24 words from Ledger hardware wallet in password manager? on: April 09, 2020, 08:55:14 PM
It says it is not recommended to store your 24 word seeds digitally and I can see why it is bad to save it in a non encrypted file like a word document, but why is it a bad idea to store your 24 words in a password manager like KeePass which is offline, you can copy the files into other drives for backups, and the file is encrypted? I do not see any security flaws in this except if you have a keylogger.

Hypothetically speaking, if you store your seed in an offline password manager you have to import your seed at some point and have it online.

Some hardware wallets make attempts to get you to type in extra words and import words in different orders or as repeats which makes it harder to decode a seed (but not neccessarily impossible).

Also, if a ledger works liek a trezor, you'd have to show your seed on your computer before you're able to redeem your funds which has huge implicaitons on your security sincec anyone with access to the machine through malware can gain access to the information. If you only use the seed on a live version of an OS that has been signed to be authentic then you may be able to store you information this way but I'd still be wary that you use enough encryption on the password manager...

If you can, use at least 8 random words, there are examples everywhere of how to do this...
4428  Economy / Speculation / Re: On May 12, BTC was at $12M (sell order) to reach a value of 0$ on: April 09, 2020, 05:43:14 PM
Safe-haven saves you during economic crisis. Nothing saves you during market crash. Especially during whole world, all assets massive panic sell caused by pandemic.
Economic crisis is not equal market crash.
Flash-crash is only a flash-crash. Does not mean anything.

Yeah this is also a significant thing to look at too. When retail try to rebalance assets quite a few of them will do quick sells in order to work out how much they actually have to rebalance diversification or reanalyse risk. So we can expect some sort of fall in prices at the immedate impact. Also a lot of people sell due to fear, seeing a bounce as high we can see there was a lot of interest in trying to buy up the btc at the low 3800$ prices.

@OP I haven't seen that chart before what is it meant to be of (liquidation engine) could you provide some context?
4429  Economy / Economics / Re: I think we can take pride that we didn't need a stimulus bill for btc on: April 09, 2020, 04:44:22 PM
We rebounded from 3800 to 6000 pretty quickly and at a greater strength than the S&P of ftse rebounding.... Maybe the smart minds really are in and backing crypto these days... Just something to reflect on there....

Bitcoin rebounded more strongly than the stocks because it also fell much harder than stocks. Also, there's a very good chance that Bitcoin recovered because stocks recovered, so it indirectly benefited from the stimulus, even though no one gave money to buy Bitcoin directly. Bitcoin would recover even without it, since we are so close to halvening right now, and it was also clearly oversold, so you're still right that we don't need stimulus.

The price surge for a halving is normally already priced in by now so I wouldn't expect much....

Actually also taking the 6000 we skimmed for a while, that was a 33% loss compared to the 8000 level it was at but it seems to have diverged again now. If its at 7200 then that's only a 11%. The S&P and stocks seem to be at a 15% drop still. It's enough of a divergence to make me happy...
4430  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Group blocks / addresses by mining pool on: April 09, 2020, 01:54:39 PM
You'll probably want to download the blockchain after installing bitcoin core and the find a parser that can read this informatiom into a csv file or similar.

The parser would act as a second step after you have the data and can be programmed to read through the chain and detect the information listed above.

Are you a programmer? Do you have any experience or know anyone that could help with this? Is there a goal for your project?
4431  Other / Meta / Re: SUGGESTION, hide report to moderator button for your own posts and account! on: April 09, 2020, 01:32:51 AM
Hey,

I think it still appears because there is usecase for the button. In which case we can use the button of our own posts?

When we make a post and want to delete it but in some boards, we can not delete our posts within 24 hours. If we think the post is awful, by misposting we can use the button to send a delete request to moderators.

Yeah it's also helpful to get a thread moved to archival or to get a thread split near your post, you can give the mod the exact location where the split should occur in that case.

There were occasions in the past where you couldn't delete posts on a topic that was locked, which has since been made possible too so that was an old use case for the button (however, it may still not be possible on some boards, I'm  not sure).

Compared to where we ended up, I think we saw a 25% drop if looking at where we ended up within the day...

I don't think we quite had a stimulus bill by then but the other markets had stagnated from their free fall afaik so you may have a point there....

I think the initial drop could've landed a lot worse and since it was overnight for mod tplaces, there was little volume...
4433  Economy / Speculation / Re: Managed retirement funds safe to invest or should I stick with cash? on: April 08, 2020, 10:05:46 PM
Also add the fact that Warren Buffet bought this stock in Feb for $45 and sold it for $24 last week. Why is he selling?

Yep, be weary of anything that fell much, much further than the rest of the market. Buffet selling Delta without waiting for a bounce was a big warning sign too. Travel and tourism is fucked (even with the bailouts) and nobody knows for how long, or what the recovery will look like.

This is interesting, I didn't think he'd be too much at risk of a loss selling a company for half it's price unless the company was going to go into adminstration at least - or bankruptcy...

I think a lot of airlines use interest only loans to buy planes and use their funds to pay off everyone that they get from customers and don't have much of a cash buffer.

Why is this thread in the Speculation sub-forum?It's not about the Bitcoin price.
I thought people used bitcoin discussion and speculation to discuss the bitcoin price? This is just a general economics section for speculating on other assets and to sugggest a bit of diversification slightly away from Bitcoin.

I can't comment on a lot of htese threads when they're all about bitcoin as I'd generally start to feel as if I were repeating myself and this board seems to get used for both actual economy discussion and the microeconomy of bitcoin.

...But I guess you are living in some western country, where the retirement funds are better managed and more successful.
The bank that I use pays 0.15% interest per year. That's 15 cents for every 100 euro deposited. Grin

Yeah they look a lot better here, average about 10% at least (the good ones). This one looks to have been able to hit ~20% over the past few years and I think they're a long standing company so...

I seem to remember the old mnemonics being 17bcharacters. You'll probanly have to keep going with their tech support here until you get put through to a human.
I doubt the owners are still on this forum since the forum is fairly anti blockchain (since they store your keys)...
4435  Other / Meta / Re: A little bit of warning about the pandemic on: April 08, 2020, 07:34:23 PM
You have to be careful when pushing the mass media propaganda Some people believe that shutting down economies will, cause more death, destruction and disease than the virus. One simple way to slow the virus and help build herd immunity, would be to ban smoking and vaping, and to control the ingredients in processed foods.

You might end up with a lot of protests from that. Especially if they think you'll move to ban alcohol.

I think smokers are quite the minority these days... I haven't walked passed anyone smoking in a long time... You'll also end up with having to deal with their withdrawal symptoms like people getting the shakes.... It might make your immune system worse if you go cold turkey....

Can I peer review or write a the warning message if you're after something comprehensive.
4436  Other / Off-topic / Re: COVID19 Nurse Layoffs? Layoffs in the Southern United States at hospitals! on: April 08, 2020, 07:29:49 PM
Thank you very much.  I will pass this along to the people laid off! <3

I kinda imagine your Hospitals are in the same shape as ours are, but we shall see.

Have you personally seen how full the hospital is?  Like with your own eyes.  Not your prime minister in ICU.

I don't think I'd be able to get that information. Hospitals are normally 90% full at this time of year normally but apparently non major surgeries have reduced that to 50% so far... And our health services are cautious with admitting people when there's nothing major.

They've built 3 new hospitals of 4000+ capacity each and we'll have to see what happens as I think most of Europe is extensively hiring in the event it breaks out somewhere and they can quickly lend services to another country (but that's just my theory at the moment)....

4437  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: So how safe is Tails when using my hardware wallet or online accounts? on: April 08, 2020, 07:04:06 PM

Thanks for your reply, very useful information indeed! So I should be safe logging in to any website using Tor (of course, any legit website using HTTPS) Cheesy

Correct me if I got it wrong: so as soon as I download an image from.. say imgur or a video off Reddit, I should be fine as soon as there is no little warning triangle with a line, right? Smiley

Yes you should be fine as long as you trust the poster and reddit. I don't know if they do but they probably strip image meta data that's unnecessary anyway. Facebook goes as far to strip location, even bitcointalk uses a proxy to strip away similar things so I imagine reddit does too but I'm not entirely sure...

Reddits certificate is issued by digicert, they're another certificate I'd trust. If you click the padlock and sometimes the right arrow on the dropdown you'll see who verifies them...

It's possible to hijack a certificate at the exit node but it's not possible for them to get reddits certificate from digicert and pass it off as their own...
4438  Other / Off-topic / Re: COVID19 Nurse Layoffs? Layoffs in the Southern United States at hospitals! on: April 08, 2020, 06:32:33 PM
They chopped ICU nurses down to $15 per hour here.

If any hospitals need experienced ICU nurse staff, please contact me and I can send a few your way!

https://www.nhsprofessionals.nhs.uk/nhs-nightingale/register.html

If you're seriously looking for something, there'll be something here or in a few other countries (france and germany are probably hoping to hire still).
4439  Other / Off-topic / Re: COVID19 Nurse Layoffs? Layoffs in the Southern United States at hospitals! on: April 08, 2020, 06:20:31 PM
I'm not sure if this is relevant to your point but there were also a lot of articles suggesting a lot of nursive staff were getting work visas in europe from the US in order to work in our hospitals...

It seems some may also have been suggested to go volunteer here (potentially so they can get transferred and don't need to be paid anything in redundancy if the us have that)? Seems interesting times anyway and certainly not the best approach, but mixing profit with healthcare never was...
4440  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: So how safe is Tails when using my hardware wallet or online accounts? on: April 08, 2020, 06:15:18 PM
I haven't used tails but I know about tor:

  • I've never logged in on any website by using Tor (browser) because I was afraid someone would be able to hack my accounts and gather my passwords. Is it safe to log in to my e-mail (no, not my personal one!)? What about BitcoinTalk or a decentralized exchange like Bisq? Does logging in through Tails make it more possible to have my passwords stolen if I log in to them?
You can log into other sites freely using Tor, if you want to keep your anonymity up there may be ways to isolate different parts of your desktop although I imagine tor tabs can't interact with each other anyway (much like firefox ones can't unless you add a script).

When connecting to tor, your information is encrypted at every hop and there are layers of encryption, it's like an onion.
If you've hidden a note inside a gold onion, have 3 runners and the king you're sending your note to.
1st runner, peels back their layer with a key
2nd runner peels back their layer with a key
3rd runner peels back their layer with a key
Then king then has the final key to gain access to the note.

1 knows who you are and that you sent an encrypted note to 2 and so on but they don't know what the note is and they don't know all the hops it took, they just knew the last hop and yours.

If runner 1 and 3 were in kahoots, they'd know every hop but as long as you have HTTPS enabled (and if you click the padlock when you go to the site you can check it's authenticated - I'd trust QuoVadis or Comodo CA to be distributing authentic licenses).

  • How do I SAFELY download things that I can also open (say an image or a video) through Tails while also online? I heard it's not a good idea at all to open files downloaded through Tor and knowing the fact that Tails enforces any connection to run through it, I guess it's not the best idea to download stuff and open them later..

The thing with downalods is that even an image can contain a tracker or something to hijack your machine. If you trust the source you downloaded it from and accessed it via an encrypted source then you're fine to open it. A bit of a difference with tor is that if there's a warning triangle next to the padlock with a line through it this means some media is NOT encrypted by the source server and I therefore wouldn't trust it.

(I've spent too much of my day discussing european royals) Grin
