was bitcointalk down for everyone or just me?

It's not just you. I got steady 504 errors to the point of checking Twitter to see if Theymos reported a dDOS attack.

He didn't post anything but that's what it seemed like to me.

Are there even enough coins for sale on the exchanges?

Don't get fooled by the order book depth. Coins can get to an exchange within an hr. People got smarter (for now) and don't store (as many coins) on the exchanges

Precisely. Why risk bitcoins when they can be stored safely offline until the last minute?

Fiat on the other hand takes considerably longer to move and is less prone to hacking due to identity verification and the banking system.

This is perhaps why upward movements are usually more gradual while dumps are hard and fast.

Gotta love this place.

The price creeps up 4% from about $685 to $715 and some people have visions of rocket trains dancing in their heads.

Others foresee hard crashes and dream of burning buildings  and sinking ships.

It's just 4% for crissake. Does everybody have a short memory?

Remember the days of the 3000% rise followed by a 93% drop in 2011 or the 2200% rise followed by an 81% drop in early 2013 or the 1200% rise followed by an 85% drop in late 2013/early 2014?

Even this spring's 78% rise and ensuing 41% drop were considerable.

4%? LOL.

Good morning Bitcoinland.

Just got woken up by the damned phone to see I just missed some exciting action.

The dust still hasn't settled yet but we seem to be catching our breath after a second fairly decent rise in about 12 hours... currently $715 on Bitcoinaverage.

Now let's see if it's time for the expected correction (back to $680?) or if we continue upward a while longer and set $700 as the new support.

Exciting times.

For me, there was the ATH bubble, the November 2015 and the June 2016. I wasn't aware of the other ones, as him probably.

The June 2011 bubble was the granddaddy of all Bitcoin bubbles. It was perhaps a defining moment in Bitcoin being taken seriously. After finally achieving parity with the USD a few months earlier, its rapid ascent to over $30 opened a few eyes.

The April 2013 bubble was pretty big too. After the 2011 bubble deflated and over a year was spent in $5-10 limbo, Bitcoin came roaring back with a vengeance. Now we knew it wasn't a one hit wonder. Sure enough, by November it had done it again, this time to a new (and current) ATH.

4447  Economy / Speculation / Re: If Bitcoin break $700. For how long it will stay above $700? on: October 28, 2016, 03:32:53 PM
I chose "less than a day" because it very seldom crosses any resistance (or support) point without at least a little back-and-forth.

Once it has seriously crossed $700 for more than a day, we probably won't see sub-$700 again, barring some unforeseen calamity like an exchange hack or as yet undiscovered vulnerability.
4448  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: October 28, 2016, 03:12:24 PM
Good morning Bitcoinland.

Still in the $680s I see... about $688 according to Bitcoinaverage.

We're in our second day of sideways consolidation, hopefully getting ready for a weekend rise past $700.

At least we seem to be holding on to this weeks increases. Touch wood!
4449  Economy / Speculation / Re: The Drop on: October 27, 2016, 04:26:39 PM
I hope it could be the fourth bubble.

4th bubble? The first was obviously the great bubble of June 2011. Then there were the two lesser bubbles of March and November 2013.

Don't you count November 2015 and June 2016 as bubbles?
4450  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: October 27, 2016, 03:54:05 PM
Good morning Bitcoinland.

Still maintaining most of yesterday's gains. Down just a wee... $684 on Bitcoinaverage.

Hopefully we're just catching our breath, trying not to go up too fast, and we'll continue our steady rise up past $700 and beyond.
4451  Other / Off-topic / Re: What's your worst trade decision so far on: October 26, 2016, 10:23:05 PM
I'm not a trader as such, but my worst decision was to leave bitcoins at an exchange (MtGox) instead of keeping them safely offline in "paper" wallets.

That cost me 50btc. Needless to say, I won't make that mistake again.

Similar to above I lost all my bitcoin (at the time)n holding it on Bitcoinica. Never trusted an exchange since

Luckily I only lost about a third of mine at the time. I've managed to more than replace them since, buying the most during the deep dips in January and August of 2015 and mining a few before that.

That raised the average price I paid from about $120 (CAD) to about $200 including the ones I bought this year.

No regrets though. Live and learn. Today my $200 bitcoins are worth $900 each and they're much more securely held.

I realize this is a USD/BTC thread but Canadians might like to hear that we just passed 900 CAD per BTC according to Bitcoinaverage.
4454  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: October 26, 2016, 05:35:21 PM
Wow. I just looked in on Huobi in time to see a nice rise happen before my very eyes, then switched back to Stamp to see it follow.

Fun.  Cool
4455  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: October 26, 2016, 03:44:43 PM
Good morning Bitcoinland.

Still creeping up I see... $669 0n Bitcoinaverage.

Let's keep this rise nice and steady. No skyrocket and fizzle, just a smooth ramp up.

Okay, I realize there's no smooth ramp with Bitcoin but at least we can hope for a less extreme roller coaster.  Cheesy
4456  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: October 25, 2016, 05:08:21 PM
It says 4500 Jimbo!  K thousand?

Etalia's post said 4500k btc. That's 4.5M btc. That's why I assumed it was a typo.
4457  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: October 25, 2016, 04:27:05 PM
Good AM Bitcoinland.

Still in the $650s at Bitcoinaverage... $658 to be precise.

Looks like we're back in sideways mode again.

Can someone explain why dump 4500K BTC on the market with such slippage.
Where did you see this dump?

4.5 million bitcoins? That's over a quarter of all the coins mined to date.

Assuming that was a typo and (s)he meant 4500 btc, I still don't see it. Even that amount in a single market sell on a zero-fee Chinese exchange would have caused considerable slippage, which I don't see.

I'm curious too.

Where is Adam??

JJG says he talked to him a while back and Adam said he was hacked and locked out. Hasn't bothered to reclaim his account.

I wish he'd do something about it. I miss his absurd humor and drunken shenanigans.

Also, the poll desperately needs changing.

Good morning Bitcoinland.

Still holding in the $650s... $655 to be exact (Bitcoinaverage).

Page 16000...?

I guess congrats are in order - if this post manages to stay here  Wink

I don't think it's a big thing any more.

Remember page 10000? People were jockeying for days, posting and deleting to try to get on the landmark page.

How long has page 16000 been up? Over 16 hours and still going? Ho hum.

Cheers...buckle up for a fun ride!  Shocked Shocked Shocked Cool
