Also people won't like to share keys with siblings or wife because they can misuse them . So what could be the solution to this  Huh
Dunno, people I know have sorted this out, and gave their spouses/family members some sort of instructions what to do in case something happens to them. I did the same, and several of my closest family members have access to my seed phrase. They are completely clueless when it comes to crypto, so they are instructed to contact a friend who will explain them procedure to access the crypto in case something happens to me.

One of the possible solution if you don't trust anyone, yet wanna pass your crypto onto someone is a dead man's switch. You may wanna look into something like FinalMessage, in which if you don't do certain action for set amount of time, message will be sent to designated people with instructions how to access your crypto.

How is it a Ponzi though? I mean Ponzi gets it's money from a continuous influx of investor? They're an exchange so I don't get how they are a Ponzi. I might be wrong though which means that if it is a Ponzi then probably they did a good job disguising it to look like a real one for that many investors to pour their money in the exchange. I don't think that they will be tracked, pretty sure that this exit scam is premeditated and they know how to not get tracked already.
Africrypt wasn't exchange, as wrongly presented in majority of media, but investing platform that promised 10 % daily ROI on the investment, and they claimed that they were able to bring that kind of profit thanks to "AI driven trading platform", which is just a standard bullshit to hide that there is no trading going on, but instead it's just an ordinary ponzi that can live as long as there is constant influx of new investors.

Those two brothers naturally didn't want to wait for that, so they just did exit scam and disappeared with the bitcoin they had at that moment.
4443  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: El Salvador started BTC campaign in their country on: June 26, 2021, 04:03:25 PM
It's not "giving away" money when it comes from taxes. People basically get a fraction of their own money back.
Haha yeah, that's common misconception about government giving something for "free".

The more I read about this, the more I think they only use the name Bitcoin, but not actual Bitcoins.
Pretty much this. At first this news sounds great, but when you dig deeper, it more looks like a publicity stunt than something legit and with honest intentions. There are still many questions unanswered but once that wallet is out we will know what's actually going on.
4444  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Two brothers have disappeared with $3.6 billion worth of Bitcoin on: June 26, 2021, 04:02:41 AM
if either one of the brothers makes a mistake, they can still be trace back and hopefully investors can get back their money and learn a very expensive lessons.
That's the thing, I think that it is easier to steal that amount of money (not that is easy at all) than remain hidden. You really have to able to control yourself not to spend that kind of money. On top of it, those are basically still kids, as one is 17 yo and other is probably not much older. So yeah, my guess it that they will be caught eventually, if there is enough effort put to find them.
4445  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: El Salvador started BTC campaign in their country on: June 25, 2021, 03:09:20 PM
The catch is that the 30$ worth of bitcoin is given for those that download Chivo, an app provided by the Government to manage crypto (from September 2021 onwards). Fine it’s a way to kick-start things into motion, but I’d rather it be a wallet of free choice.
What if they actually plan to send the derivatives instead of actual bitcoin, and that's why they are making this Chivo app mandatory in order for people to get BTC? I mean, if they really have no ill intentions, they would just let people get their BTC in any wallet of their choice.

Skimming through the below link with information on Chivo, it states that:
-   Users need to register with their Id and phone number.
-   They’ll also need to perform a facial recognition or to complete a phone questionnaire from a given call center.

Seems like starting with a big brother wallet ...
That's true, another part that sucks, but I see no other way to perform this type of airdrop, otherwise they open themselves for abuse.

I would like to look at the positive aspects of all this, but it reminds me of that saying that if you are getting something for free, you are the product.

4446  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Two brothers have disappeared with $3.6 billion worth of Bitcoin on: June 25, 2021, 01:10:39 PM
Only if they make a mistake and reveal themselves. As things look now, they planned this very well and I have no doubt that they had an exit scam in the beginning - and then they had just enough time to cover up all traces and disappear with new identities, maybe even with new faces - because with 69 000 BTC is not hard to buy a whole new life anywhere in the world.
It's true, that amount of money can buy you pretty much anything, but one of the questions is whether they will have enough constraint not to go on the spending spree, given their young age, and the amount of money they managed to scam. All is good as along as you are living just an ordinary life, but when you start buying luxury stuff, it may catch someone's attention. If I have to put my money on the outcome of all this, I would say that they will be caught eventually.

Every day I wonder if there is an end to human stupidity and naivety, but these two human qualities seem to be as infinite as the universe. What's worse in the whole story, I believe that at least 50% of those who lost their money in this scam will find themselves in the same situation again.
Worst of all, people that lost money this way tend to blame bitcoin, instead of themselves.
4447  Economy / Reputation / Re: MoonCake - probably scam on: June 25, 2021, 12:59:06 PM

For me it is very scammy behavior.
They are lazy and incompetent for sure, but then again that's much pretty much standard practice with bounty campaigns, managers taking each other's layout and ocassipnally forgetting to remove some links, like in this case. Doesn't make it right of course.

Regarding MoonCake, it looks like just another DeFi high apy shitcoin with inflated bounty pool, as always. On top of that, team looks fake as fuck so if someone has time to do reverse image search, there might be some results.
4448  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk Merit Dashboard on: June 25, 2021, 09:23:16 AM

Aggregate awarded sMerit for the last complete week (07/06/2021 .. 13/06/2021) is 3.238, which is up 13,49% from the previous week.

At first this weekly increase may sound good and optimistic, but when you check the total amount of merit shared during June which is 10,711 and considering only six days left until end of the month we will most likely reach new all time low (current one is April 2021 with 15551). Then again, that was pretty obvious since last week, that we are heading towards new ATL.
4449  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Two brothers have disappeared with $3.6 billion worth of Bitcoin on: June 25, 2021, 09:12:53 AM
So apparently those greedy people caught on a Ponzi scheme and lost their money. Greed and fear are the best asset for scammers.
Yep. People tend to think that crypto is some kind of magic money after hearing people getting rich so for them 10% daily ROI through "advanced artificial intelligence systems" seems ok.

Is he publicly known? If yes, then he can not hide anything and will need to accept the consequences.
Yeah, those two brothers behind this scheme are well known so hopefully they pay the consequences.

4450  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Two brothers have disappeared with $3.6 billion worth of Bitcoin on: June 25, 2021, 06:16:40 AM

PS: Just checked on CMC. This Africrypt does not even exist there.
This Africrypt is not an actual exchange, but more like one of those ponzi trading platforms that uses "Artifical Inteligence" to bring their investors unrealistically high daily ROI ( I read somewhere that it was something like 10% daily which should have been a huge red flag for anyone thinking about investing. But as we know, people suck at these things.

Few quotes from archived version of their website. Pay attention to when their CEO allegedly learned about bitcoin. By the way, he is 17 years old now Cheesy

We are an investment firm exclusively focused on cryptocurrency and blockchain technology.

Our Artificial intelligence driven trading platform is a world class trading platform that uses complex deep learning , machine learning algorithms to effectively and efficiently trade automatically without human intervention.

Africrypt’s Founder and CEO, Raees Cajee first learned of Bitcoin in 2009 while watching the news with his father and ever since he’s been hooked.

4451  Other / Meta / Re: Seeking reporter badge images on: June 24, 2021, 05:12:41 AM
There have been concerns that some people might use sockpuppets to report their own posts in order to get a reporter badge.
Seeing how everything that can be abused here gets abused, I have no doubts that would happen, no matter how ridiculous just the though of it doing looks now.

In order to reduce the potential for people reporting their own alts' posts, one option might be to add additional hidden criteria for the various badges, such as posts or threads originally to be in a sufficiently diverse number of subs, or that the result of a report is that the post or thread is sufficiently diverse outcome of removing the post/thread, moving the thread, or editing the post.
Or maybe make it one time thing, just check whoever has xyz amount of good reports and give badges. And then maybe repeat it in 5-10 years, without any announcement of doing so. Some RNG factor like that might discourage those wanting to abuse it.
4452  Economy / Reputation / Re: [LIST] ANN threads that are using bumping services on: June 23, 2021, 05:00:56 PM
Rikafip, here are a few more candidates to add to your list:

A bunch of newbies trying to bump up topics with a fake interest in projects.

Damn, nice catch. An obvious case of thread bumping and I would really like to see the way the still manage to sell this service to naive clients that think this kind of promotion actually works.  Gonna update the first post either tonight or tomorrow, as its going to take me some considering  that your identified 20_+ ANN threads. Cheesy
4453  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Michael Saylor owns 0,5% of Bitcoin Supply on: June 22, 2021, 04:39:46 PM
yeah, they can buy fractions of a bitcoin, but what good will that do to them? it is hard to expect that BTC will make 100x from this point, or you think that 100x is still possible?
What's the alternative though? Investing in altcoins from which 99% are pure garbage and most likely end up with the loss due not selling on time?

I do not see a possibility for BTC to do more than 10x from this point in the future, so investment ranging in BTC fraction - 0.01 BTC for example cannot make you some great runs in the end, which is what retail investors expect from BTC
That was exactly my line of thinking in the late 2013 when I heard about BTC for the first time, like " 1 BTC is ~1000 USD, and since I am only willing to invest 200 USD s can't buy one whole bitcoin, so I should better buy bunch of shitcoins (bought it via eBay lol) and maybe make a fortune" and you can guess how that went. Thank God I didn't make the same mistake when I came back to crypto in 2017.
4454  Economy / Reputation / Re: Tagging people who don't follow local rules on: June 22, 2021, 07:38:37 AM

You could also just ignore the user and never read another post of theirs.
+1

This seems like an elegant solution if someone feels so strongly about signature campaign applicants not following the rules, and even more noticeable than neutral tag.

I too will not advice the tagging of account due to this, tagging should be as a result of scam or an account planing to scam through posting of scam attempt contents, but this is not the case.
Bolded part is not really true, because tag doesn't have to be necessarily negative. Neutral can be used for a wide variety of things, for example tagging shitposters, and I agree with LoyceV when he said in said in his Beginners guide to correct use of the Trust system that neutral tag is underused at the moment.
4455  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Michael Saylor owns 0,5% of Bitcoin Supply on: June 22, 2021, 07:21:00 AM
Well, here is the big problem of Bitcoin from my view, 90% of all Bitcoins are owned by just 1% of the wallets created, this mean that if people buy today they are just doing the rich richer,
If people buy bitcoin now, they will make themselves richer in a couple of years.

i know that here we have some of the Bitcoin holders since 2013 but that doesn't change the real problem, Bitcoin is a millonaries game right now, retail investors can't do a shit about that.
That's one of the common misconceptions, that if you cant buy bunch of dirt cheap BTC, you are too late. I thought the same after I came back to crypto in 2017 after few years break, contemplating whether to start buying now, or its too late as I couldn't afford 1 whole BTC. Fast forward to 2021, and people still think the same, instead just focusing on getting some BTC, no matter how much and little by little you may own 1 whole BTC. And even if you don't, so what?

4457  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is BTC Volatility More of an Advantage than Disadvantage? on: June 21, 2021, 07:13:23 PM
Simple answer is don’t day trade. Nobody ever lost any money if they can hold their bitcoin medium to long term (4 years or more). Stop obsessing with the current bitcoin price & getting stressed about short term price movements. Look at bitcoin as a way to make life changing money, you need patience if you are a noob now.
You might wanna read the first post again.

One of the undeniable features of BTC is price Volatility. When the market is green, a trader can run into massive profits. However, on a bad day ones Portfolio can varnish within hours. My question, is the price volatility of BTC more of an advantage than disadvantage to traders?
From my very limited trading experience (I was horrendous at it so I simply stopped few years ago) I would say that BTC volatiliy is an advantage to the experienced traders and that volatility is what brought stock traders into crypto after all. Then again, I know IRL very experienced stock trader (30+ years), and he told me that he simply doesn't have nerves for crypto trading, even though he invested some via Grayscale (he is also too afraid to hodl his own BTC lol).

By the way, this topic looks more like a material for Speculation board.
4458  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How can we provide merit others? on: June 21, 2021, 09:09:45 AM
What's with all these burst threads at the moment? Can you just ask these in a single thread?

All of these questions are answerable if you just use the Search function or read around the thread. Stickies are there for a reason, OP.
Reason why he keeps opening new threads is simple; either this is alt account of a more experienced member and he knows that Beginners & Help board is generally good for merit farming purposes, or someone told him that's the way to do it.

Either way, he sucks at it as he is too focused on merit system, which is weird (to say the least) for a genuine newbie.
4459  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [Expose] Bitraderxpay.ltd Ponzi Project on: June 21, 2021, 07:00:52 AM
Yep, clear ponzi scheme, and pretty basic one! But as we know, even that is enough for newbies to get scammed, it doesn't have to be some elaborate scheme.

@Leviathan.007 one suggestion, as I see that images you shared have messed up ratio: when you are adjusting image size, it's enough to adjust either height or width, and the other parameter will adjust accordingly. That way you will preserve normal image ratio, so it won't be a little bit "off" like it is now. So in this case, "img width=750" or "img height=700" would do the trick.
4460  Other / Meta / Re: Signature spam - how to force users to read before replying? on: June 21, 2021, 05:23:33 AM
On the Atlcointalk forum there is a + karma and -Karma on every profile to fight against shiposters and it works perfectly because negative karma reduces your activity points thus making it impossible for such user to rank up.
Just because something works (If you say so as I never visited that forum) on altcointalk doesn't mean it would work here. This is much bigger forum, and with people having financial incentive to retaliate against each other and long standing feuds. Theoretically, I like the idea of downvoting, but knowing bitcointalk it would be abused. Forum staff is probably aware of that and that's why we won't see something like that implemented anytime soon. Same goes for de-meriting, which was also suggested more times, and would lead to the same thing.
