is any administrator going to do anything about this? The only thing pinning/stickying a pool does is create mega pools that could compromise the network.

With deepbit's PPS mode however, there is no trust involved - you can easily check how much shares you submit and how much payout you receive. Hence it's psychologically easier to trust in honesty of the proportional mode as well.
I think this is basically the main reason Deepbit is so popular - miners struck with unlucky sequence of days turn to the deepbit and use its PPS mode and from there they receive the same expected reward every day. Increased number of miners causes increased stability in block generation per day (except for the DDOS attack idle time) which keeps proportional mode users happy as well.
Other pools should implement similar feature if they really want to compete with deepbit.
continuumpool.com offers pps at a lower fee that deepbit.

waste of money. just get one with enough pci-e x1 slots.
|
|
|
probably, but you'll probably spend a ton of money getting a pci -> pcie adapter.

OK, you don't need a DVD drive, you don't need a case, you don't need a hdd (you can boot from usb), you only need 1gb ram, and you only need a sempron.
That should save you a bit.
Thanks, someone should make and sticky a thread as anyone interesting in maximizing mining profit will ask this question. Don't need a case, really? Where would I mount the fans then? you don't. just use a deskfan.

any pool is good. just choose one with no fees, and not too big (anything above 40% = possible threat to network)

it seems to be a common issue. just update sdk, or restrict the miner to one core.

one other question ....so there is noway ever to confirm someones wallet right ? like they are the rightful owners?
wallets just contain private-public key pairs. Theres no real way to "prove" that a particular key belongs to someone.

depends on the model. Reference designs are usually quite loud, especially the hamster wheel style fans. Non-reference coolers, like the ones that sapphire or asus makes are a quieter. The best advice i can give you is go to review sites, and compare the decibels (db) of each card. I would want to keep it below 70 db. which is the "EPA-identified maximum to protect against hearing loss and other disruptive effects from noise, such as sleep disturbance, stress, learning detriment, etc." (wikipedia)

Software overclocking doesn't void warranty.
yes it does, although there's no real way to prove that you did overclock.

Strong recommendation to avoid this pool. The operators are rude, childish and extremely unprofessional. Search their previous posts and see for yourself, many examples of swearing and unprofessional conduct. Avoid!
>implying they're paid to do this

grue, did you test it in a vm or something?
yep

get linuxcoin, put it on a usb, and boot! would a high-end graphics card like that work on 512MB?
this isn't a gaming computer

I think he has it set at 1 BTC to avoid transaction fees. And considering he has a 0% prop and 5% (the lowest) PPS, I can't blame him
Mandatory transaction fees only apply to transactions with outputs less than 0.01 btc

Plus, I can show off to my friends ( who think i'm a dedicated nerd ) my 2 mining rigs. "Whoa man, wtf is that?!" it's a heater that generates money!
