It's about as stupid as believing that electric cars are good for the environement, and vaccinations are currently being used to avoid illness, rather than to propagate it.
4442  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: Donald Trump has been ordered not to meet Nigel Farage. on: August 21, 2018, 05:12:45 PM
NF wants nothing to do with Trump, nor do NF's supporters.  They would love to deny Trump's presidency, which is typical of the left wing fanatics who think we live in a world that has the worst racism, sexism, and toxic masculinity as we have ever seen.

What is "NF", you can't mean Nigel Farage, as he is an avid supported of Donald Trump. Also he wants us to be free of the EU, which has the worst record for racism, sexism and toxic masculinity.

Change your name - the one you have chosen is dreadful.

4444  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: Why is gold worth more than platinum on: August 21, 2018, 03:34:13 PM
I don't think it's the colour, because rhodium is another noble metal similar to platinum, and it is worth twice as much as gold. Gold has been used as currency for thousands of years, and it still retains its reputation as a hedge against inflation. In early Egyptian times copper was more valuable than gold, so custome can change. Silver is the strange one though, and I think it is very undervalued at the moment.

Prices are heavily manipulated as well. De Beers holds back massive quatities of diamonds to preserve the scarcity value for example.

Just to illustrate how desperate things are getting, I gave this post a couple of sMerits just for making me laugh. This was a nice break from a fairly unrewarding look through the latest posts.

4446  Other / Off-topic / Re: WHERE CAN I GET THE MERIT? on: August 21, 2018, 10:19:00 AM
Straight onto ignore for two reasons -

- All caps in the title
- Begging for merit

If you get onto too many ignore lists of merit awarders, then you will never get any merit.

You beat me to it Ria. I shouldn't do it, but I gave you a couple of merits for making me laugh.
4447  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: Replace your ether address with a domain name. on: August 21, 2018, 09:45:50 AM
I reread that article, and I seem to have missed a few points in the first reading. It seems that a registry is proposing to introduce a new TLD - .luxe , and this is supposed to combine payment functions with traditional domain activities. I think this is a bit of a marketing gimmick, and I wouldn't support it. First off, it introduces another (possibly untrusted ) party into the payment process, and I had trouble in finding an improvement over displaying a QR code or hyper-link in a conventional web page.
4448  Other / Meta / Re: @theymos, many community suggestions but silence from your side.[Answerd] on: August 21, 2018, 08:47:24 AM
The easy fix would be to take signatures away from newbies and juniors, and to restrict them to a about half of the current boards.
4449  Other / Meta / Re: @theymos, many community suggestions but silence from your side.[Answerd] on: August 21, 2018, 08:01:01 AM
There are a few things that we can do within the current framework. The suggestion that we have a consolidated ignore list for merit awarders could have an impact on the spammers. It would need to have a formalised structure though. Maybe we could work on this.  My ignore appeal ticket system allows for more than one designated person to handle appeals. - https://talkmerit.com/support/

4450  Other / Meta / Re: Community generated suggestions to improve the forum (+ eventual voting on them) on: August 21, 2018, 07:55:29 AM
I'm a bit disappointed that my delegated merit awarding suggestion didn't appear in the lists. That would be a great help for good posters on the local boards, and it would help the responsible merits sources to distribute sMerits for the benefit of the forum.
4451  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Investing in ICO tokens on: August 20, 2018, 04:07:13 PM
Why do people refer to it as "investing". It's pure speculation, and it probably offers a worse chance of making a profit than gambling on scratch cards.
4452  Other / Meta / Re: Index to popular bitcointalk threads on: August 20, 2018, 09:28:38 AM
This idea was another of my projects that failed due to lack of interest.
I started a library of meritable posts on my blog - https://talkmerit.com/the-source/index.php/library/
but it ended up with only the thread by Dr Gomez on the shelves.

I've given up on the blog as well. It doesn't seem there is much motivation to improve things amongst most of the members. I suspect that it's time for a hard fork in the posting in the Bitcoin Talk forum.
4453  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: Will liquidation chop bots kill amateur trading in Bitcoin? on: August 20, 2018, 09:20:31 AM
I've come to the conclusion that you need to take a two year view of the market. Which really means that you have to decide if Bitcoin has a long term future. My personal belief is that it will continue to rise, and that all these market manipulations are attempts to pick up coins at reduced prices. If you take an ultra-conservative view, and you assume that in two years Bitcoin will have a value that is at least double its current value, then you just have to look for buying opportunities at the moment. It does mean that you have to ignore dips if the price drops below your purchase price, and you have to stay in for the two year period.
4454  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How does one get into bounty managing? on: August 20, 2018, 08:51:18 AM
You would probably be better off reading about bounties, and moving this tread into the bounty underworld here.
4455  Other / Meta / Re: [Survey] Who has who on its Ignore List? (Second try) on: August 20, 2018, 08:42:40 AM

Are you going to launch ICO? Perhaps yesterday you register domain name,

Yes - that was me. You can't keep any secrets here on Bitcoin Talk. Smiley
I don't believe in ICOs, so there won't be an offering. The idea is to help to sell domain names, and to offer them at a discount for using the coin as payment. I'll start a project when I know what I'm doing. Apologies if this is derailing a useful thread, if anyone want to discuss XEE, then I'll start another thread.

I don't think I have the largest ignore list, but I may be the noisiest user of the ignore feature. I hoped that it would help to improve posting behaviour. To have any effect, it needs to be possible for posters to come off the list should they modify their behaviour here. This means that I need to do more to improve my appeal process.
4456  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: God's money or the people's money - which is the best safe haven? on: August 20, 2018, 08:06:58 AM
I think all fiat currencies are a bad risk for savings. In particular the Euro. Turkey, Italy and Deutschebank will bring it down, Brexit will also make it difficult for the EU to survive. Sterling will be better if we can get rid of the Eton/Oxford unicorns in the government and the civil service after Brexit.

Silver and gold are heavily manipulated markets, and value is far lower than it should be. This is because major investors are depressing the markets via paper transactions, whilst they accumulate physical metals, Silver looks the best bet for capital growth out of the two.

I believe Bitcoin is the 'gold' of the future, and I have been slower than I should have been in acquiring it. I decided to move fiat deposits into Bitcoin via the purchase of domain names, and this looks as if it could have some interesting possibilities. The announcement that Ethereum is to have its own TLD ( .ETH ) for payment addresses could expand the market for suitable domain names.

Remember - I am not qualified to give financial advice, and my comments are just personal opinions.
4457  Other / Meta / Re: [Survey] Who has who on its Ignore List? (Second try) on: August 20, 2018, 07:45:23 AM
I'll wait for JetCash's ignore list, but I'm not sure he will release it to the public Smiley
But I know that other legendaries has also huge ignore lists, so after a while we could try to combine these ignore lists into a big one (or everybody can put together his very own ignore lists based on these lists here)

I haven't posted mine yet, because I was going to have a go at categorising it. Recently I've become fairly militant, and I'm adding people for things like starting threads with all caps titles.

I actually created an appeal process, and I set up a support ticket system here - https://talkmerit.com/support/

I've been looking into starting my own ERC20 coin to sell domain names at a discount, and that has taken a bit of time. I registered a name for it - XEEcoin.com , but all I've done with that site is to put a holding page on it.

I'm on the netbook at the moment, but maybe I should post my ignore list later when I;m on the Notebook, it probably needs a good cleanup.

4 of my reasons for ignoring members are -

Including long quotes of original or recent posts.
Including large images in threads other than social threads. ( doesn't include stats graphs)
All caps thread titles.
Begging for merits
4458  Other / Ivory Tower / Replace your ether address with a domain name. on: August 19, 2018, 05:21:28 PM
The Ethereum Name Service will allow users to replace their wallet address with a domain name. They are going to use the .eth extension. I'm a bit surprised that nobody has mentioned this, as it could help the price to recover.

4459  Other / Meta / Re: I wish there was somewhere to discuss new crypto projects. on: August 19, 2018, 02:38:31 PM
Well the basic idea is to learn about creating coins, and ERC20 seems the easiest way to go. The purpose of the coin is to sell some of my domain names that are close to expiry at a low price, and if it works, then others could use the service. You would only need coins if you want a domain name, so no airdrops I'm afraid. It's only a mini-project, so no serious money to be made.

I've got the domain name - XEE coin.com, but that has only got a holding page on it.
4460  Other / Meta / Re: I wish there was somewhere to discuss new crypto projects. on: August 19, 2018, 01:24:56 PM
Thanks guys. It's a long time since I visited project development, and it looks as if that's the place to go.

It will be interesting to see if we can get some projects going with Bitcoin Talk members.

[postscript]

It looks as if project development is for Bitcoin related projects, althoughit seems to be mainly ICOs. Thereis even some pratt called Dibbs who is posting in all caps - real kindergarten stuff. Is the forum moderated these days.

Maybe serious discussion would be a better bet. ANN wouldn't be any good, because I don't want to create a scam site, or to run a bounty programme.
