4461  Economy / Economics / Re: A Nobel-winning economist says it’s time to kill the GDP metrics on: December 25, 2019, 01:14:26 PM
I agree that GDP should not be treated like a king of the metric, but not necessary to "kill" it. It's still a useful "quantitative" metric. Here is some interesting article about this issue: https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2016/04/five-measures-of-growth-that-are-better-than-gdp/

But still, it has some issue related to the method to obtain data, and involve partially qualitative analysis.

For example:
(1) Good jobs << how much $ per hour considered "good?"
(2) Wellbeing << how to measure wellbeing?
etc.

4463  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Trade Your Privacy to ₿itcoin? on: December 24, 2019, 11:16:42 PM
With all due respect to the OP, I think this thread might be more suitable to be discussed on the Bitcoin discussion.
.
.
Would you be willing to trade your location, name, and any other private and personal details over BTCitcoin? Yes? No? Why?
I think selling private information is not new. People might sell more than address, name, etc. for money. They might sell their soul, kidney, sperm, etc., as long as the price is right.

For KYC, IMO people from 3rd world countries might be satisfied with a mere $50.
4464  Economy / Gambling / Re: Roobet.com | The Honest Online Casino | Daily Presents + $5000 Christmas Raffle on: December 24, 2019, 10:54:26 PM
In my opinion, a high house edge is fine as long as it clearly displayed on the website so that users can make an informed decision about it. We can't force casinos to lower the HE, so let the free market decides.

Our average Return To Player (RTP) on all game modes is ~ 98%.
So, the house edge is 6.7%
I'm confused...

Decentralized casino is a myth, lol.
4465  Local / Bahasa Indonesia (Indonesian) / Re: Nyomot Gambar Dari Internet. Dosa [Plagiarisme] Nggak Sih? on: December 23, 2019, 06:32:29 PM

4466  Economy / Gambling / Re: 🎲EarnBet.io - The First Player-Owned Casino 🎲Provably Fair 🎲BTC ₿ on: December 23, 2019, 06:09:06 PM
Decentralization, is it a myth? This is a must-read article guys: https://medium.com/@marcintyszkiewicz/everything-wrong-with-earnbet-faf5a01b2b29

One of the earliest supporters of EOSBet steps down because of various issues.

Quote
Given all the circumstances and especially latest events that go beyond any type of criticism, I feel cheated as an investor and community member, and I can no longer support Earnbet.

From the very start, Earnbet remains one of the most dishonest and greedy EOSIO projects. As Earnbet (in my opinion) had a huge potential, I was supporting it in hope that this might change. But as we know, some things never change.
- Marcin Tyszkiewicz

It's sad to see a project that has a huge potential end up as another greedy and corrupt project. Any response from EOSBet aka EarnBet team?
4467  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Lapps are better than Dapps on: December 23, 2019, 01:16:25 PM
AFAIK, lightning apps are ordinary apps that use the lightning network as the (micro) payment system. Not all code is immutably put in the blockchain. While in dapps, the smart contracts are published in the blockchain.

I think both have their own pros and cons, and usage. If you want all the action immutably stored, then dapps might be more suitable. Conversely, if you want a fast payment system that could trigger some action from your server, lapps might be better. << CMIIW, need a lightning expert to comment on this.
4468  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Simulation/Machine Learning Effects on Gambling on: December 23, 2019, 08:26:53 AM
I'm skeptical about this A.I or simulation for predicting events that contain some amount of unknowns/surprises. I remember doing a lot of simulation as the basis of my prediction in football, with FIFA and FM games. Even if I managed to match the tactics and players, the results were not that great. No one knows whether some players will get a red card or will make some mistakes (still crying from last night EPL games).

That logic also applied to horse races. No one knows whether Horse A will get some dirt thrown to its eyes, or slips in the last moment.
4469  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: December 22, 2019, 06:37:13 PM

RIP Bettors, my deepest condolences
4470  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: December 22, 2019, 03:45:22 PM
Oh, Manchester United lost again with Pogba returns from his injury. When Ole out then? I'm not trying to be cancer though, but this manager is clearly out of his place. He should coach a smaller team first then build his career from there.

Tottenham vs Chelsea would be a better match to watch. I heard Mourinho already has a winning pose to show it to the Chelsea fans after the game. just kidding
4471  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin Store of Value Question on: December 22, 2019, 02:32:30 PM
At the end of the day , there are going to be virgin Bitcoins in circulation , and if there is a private entity that exists out there buying up all the coins , then we will have a supply problem , no?
But the virgins will be tainted at some point --my imagination was thinking something else than Bitcoin, damn.

The freshly minted Bitcoin will be spent, mixed, traded, etc., IMO there is no way to separate them for a long period of time. Even if there are whales who hoard freshly minted coins, they need to spend it to buy whatever they want, whenever they want. Hence, the concept of tainted coins is weak.
4472  Economy / Economics / Re: The ballast on: December 22, 2019, 02:20:06 PM
Ballast grants stability, not the other way around. There is always something that causes stability.
Did you mean a stabilizer? Grin

Let's assume "the ballast" is the social cohesion like what you said. How could Bitcoin not promote social cohesion?
4473  Local / Bahasa Indonesia (Indonesian) / Re: Nyomot Gambar Dari Internet. Dosa [Plagiarisme] Nggak Sih? on: December 22, 2019, 02:03:29 PM
Mudah tinggal isi formnya saja.

4474  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin Question and Traditional Markets on: December 21, 2019, 07:00:48 AM
Bitcoin as a currency has speculative value, and is viewed as a currency, stocks and bonds are also speculated on. Would investors want their assets to be hinged on another asset with (possible) wild volatility? I may be wrong in my supposition
There are many applications of Bitcoin, but first, I think it has to become a fairly atable currency.
Governments' influence would determine the direction that Bitcoin would take in a few years, adoption, regulation, control or rejection.
Agree, in addition, contrary to the doomsayers' view about the collapse of Wall Street, debt problem, etc., so that Bitcoin could rise as the savior, which are improbable. Even with the collapse of the government, there is no guarantee that Bitcoin won't fail as well.

If we are talking about the stock market, we should realize that it is a highly regulated market. Hence, Bitcoin also has to be highly regulated. Do we want such a thing? It is a different discussion.
4475  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Chinese City Warns Investors: Crypto Isn’t Blockchain on: December 21, 2019, 06:37:03 AM
It can be also understood like they don't know what they're talking about. There's no Bitcoin without blockchain and no blockchain without Bitcoin.

It's like they're trying to make people think that investing in bitcoin is wrong.

They are banning all crypto trading without trying to understand which of them are ponzis and which are not. This is a stupid and ignorant approach.
Yeah, actually I couldn't find any "Bitcoin" word in the cited article. Thus, I assumed they weren't talking about Bitcoin.

Looking back to what they have done to Bitcoin, with mining ban, banking ban, etc., your argument seems to make sense.

However, China still the biggest hash provider with more than 65% of the global hash power.
4476  Economy / Services / Re: [CFNP] blender.io Signature Campaign | Sr./Hero&Legendary Members | on: December 20, 2019, 10:56:02 PM
I was the old participants, in the first wave, but missed the second one when the campaign reopened. Hope that I won't miss it this third wave
Summon @ryzaadit, relax mate you're not the only one Grin
I think I applied in injury time. I was lucky this time.

PS: boss @Hhampuz I'm still waiting for my avatar to load, cheers!
4477  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin Question and Traditional Markets on: December 20, 2019, 01:59:03 PM
Nope. You can't print Bitcoin into oblivion. The stock market currently has been pumped similar to how crypto was pumped during the hype, but in this case it's debt fueling the biggest bull market the world has ever seen. You can't get that done with Bitcoin or Gold, both forms of money you can't create $100 billion of at will to pump in the economy.
The same situation is applicable for Bitcoin with lots of unregulated exchanges. No need to use real Bitcoin, just some database/balance to represent it. As long as there is no successful "global proof of keys event" happen, what happens inside those exchanges can be questioned.

However, it's not really the main topic. With Bitcoin as MoE/UoA, the stock price could be represented with Bitcoin value. Of course, the stock price might seemingly get cheaper and cheaper since Bitcoin itself is good money.

My point is, it's not about can or can't, it's about willingness. Does the government want such a market? I don't think so.
It's possible if the government acknowledge Bitcoin as money.
4478  Economy / Economics / Re: Question about MarketCap and Cashing Out on: December 20, 2019, 06:39:43 AM
Market capitalization only acts as an indicator and not to be taken too literally. Economics/finance isn't a "hard science" like physics that you can measure variables with certainty, e.g., gravity 9.807 m/s²

Indicators in finance could help with your investment decision, but it is still an estimation and prone to error.

Food for thought:
I could create an ERC-20 token, let's call it (SHIT) with the total supply of 1,000,000 SHIT and listed it on small exchanges. Then I bought 100 SHIT using $100. Is that mean that the SHIT market cap is now $1,000,000 ?
4479  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin Question and Traditional Markets on: December 20, 2019, 06:23:58 AM
Since Bitcoin is a form of money, it can be used as a medium of exchange for anything that has value. It could replace the dollar used for stock trading.
However, if Bitcoin still treated as a speculative asset/commodity, then it wouldn't happen. AFAIK direct trading between commodity and stock doesn't exist, e.g., Gold to AAPL, etc.

Sedikit membahas Subtansi reply mu_enrico:
