4461  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin, Stocks Fall as Trump Tests Positive for COVID-19 on: October 03, 2020, 06:10:14 PM
The Australia ASX All Ordinaries is down 1.35%.

In the U.S. markets, S&P 500 futures fell about 2%.
That's nothing, and you could expect movements like that on any typical trading day.  I'm pretty sure Trump's alleged COVID-19 diagnosis had nothing to do with those little dips.  Most markets are resilient enough such that they don't drop a few percentage points if a world leader comes down with an upper respiratory infection.

"We will get through this TOGETHER!," Trump tweeted.
Trump is full of alternating layers of shit and hot air, and he spews both out in the form of Twitter posts.  I don't particularly feel as though I'm getting through his little ailment together with him, as though we were old buddies from college....what a cnut.  Can't wait until November, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he'll be a one-term wonder.
4462  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [Official] FreeBitcoins.com BitcoinTalk Directory (All Bitcoin & no banking!) on: October 03, 2020, 04:44:55 PM
The site is looking better as time goes on, so props to you BAC!

The bovine population several towns over is ruminating on whether to register on FBC or not, and I think I've got at least one of them by the nuts:

And I'd like to keep stickering and promoting your site, but as I mentioned before the stickers really ought to be bigger (as demonstrated by the below pic.  Or if you want me to stop what I'm doing, that's cool too.

I've placed stickers around urban areas as well, but I usually don't have the luxury of lingering long enough to snap a pic.

4463  Economy / Economics / Re: Does China plan to go communist? on: October 03, 2020, 04:07:12 PM
China has been a communist dictatorship for the last 70+ years.
Lol, that's the first thought I had when I read the title of this thread, although I wasn't aware of how long China has been under communist rule.

They have embraced some capitalist concepts, like private business ownership, but the communist party retains ultimate control over everything.
Yeah, I'm no political scientist by any means, but I don't think China is an example of pure communism in action.  The Soviet Union pre-1990s would probably be a better example of one.

Yeah I was thinking that the Chinese don't really have this single ideology that runs through their government, and it's definitely a mix of everything sugar, spice and everything nice (lol.)
That's a good way of putting it.

My knowledge of politics is piss-poor.  Is China a totalitarian regime like N. Korea is?  I'm leaning toward "yes" but I'm not completely sure.  Doesn't China have some sort of social status points system that the government tracks, which is based on social media postings and which can affect your ability to get a job, benefits, and a lot of other stuff?  I remember reading something about that a while ago, but I haven't heard much about it since.
4464  Other / Meta / Re: Doxing on: October 03, 2020, 03:36:28 PM
Authorities aren't always able or willing to solve problems
That's a candidate for the understatement of the year award.

I haven't given doxxing much thought, but sometimes I think it's completely appropriate, as in the case of Master-P from a couple of years back.  I don't even know if that ever came to any resolution, but while the situation was going on it was obvious that a scam was being perpetrated and the community was past the point of presumption of innocence.  It was important that his victims knew his real identity and some details in case they wanted to involve law enforcement or whatever.

As long as the dox doesn't contain nonpublic information, like SS# or bank records and things like that, I don't see the problem with doxxing a scammer.  But I do indeed understand OP's point that the Investigations section could be abused and also that personal information can be used for nefarious purposes as well.  So I kind of have mixed feelings on the subject.

4465  Economy / Economics / Re: Stocks fall down due to trump catching the virus on: October 03, 2020, 02:13:06 AM
I think bitcoins price movement was a standard move also and not influenced greatly by external factors....
Yeah, bitcoin barely moved since yesterday and I agree that some news like this, that a world leader came down with a virus, isn't going to affect the price of bitcoin, stocks, or anything else.

I haven't been watching the news lately, but I did hear that he caught COVID-19--but who knows if that's true or not.  Trump would pull any stunt he could to guarantee re-election for himself, so you never know.  And if he did catch it, good for him.  I'm not ashamed to say I'm happy he got infected, and I hope it's a bad case for him.  Fuck Trump.  All he's done in his four years as president is divide the country along identity lines, and I'm sick of it.
4466  Other / Meta / Re: Do we need / does anyone want a what happened to member "X" thread? on: October 02, 2020, 09:11:06 PM
The thread tends to need heavy moderation but lets people know. "Yes, they are OK but just are not here anymore"
I'm not sure what you mean by this part of your post, nor exactly what you're asking.  I've seen threads in Reputation (or Meta, can't remember) asking about members like TMAN and a couple of other prominent personalities who've gone away for long periods of time, and I don't have a problem with them, nor do I think they necessarily need to be heavily moderated.  The usual replies I hear are "I don't know, blah blah blah".

If someone does in fact know the missing member IRL and knows that member's whereabouts, I presume some discretion would be used with respect of how much info they give out, especially if it's a prison sentence for goat buggery.

I'm still wondering where TMAN went off to.  Mexxer-2 as well, and I'm sure I can think of others but personally I wouldn't start a thread about either one.  People do stop posting on forums for various reasons, so it's to be expected.

4467  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Yobit biggest scam exchange ever, lying to people by giving fake dollars on: October 01, 2020, 11:38:44 PM
they are running a promotion telling people they will get 1700 free dollars
they use the words to let people understand that they are actually getting USD while they are giving them a shitcoin they just made up.
OP, it would be nice if you provided some details to support your argument here, because simply by reading your post I have no idea what Yobit is up to.  Give us a link or some quotes or something instead of just a rant.  And in case you didn't realize, most of bitcointalk knows Yobit is a shady exchange at best.

I guess in Russia they don't care much about ethics!
Not sure that a specific accusation against Yobit makes a general statement about the morality of an entire country, but you can call it however you see it.

Did you lost any money from them,, No!!!! So why??
Yeah, by the tone of what OP wrote you'd think he did lose money with Yobit, but I don't think that's the case.  But whatever, he's absolutely correct that Yobit is unethical--but I'd still like OP to provide more information.
4468  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk trust system has been destroyed by scammers on: October 01, 2020, 10:36:43 PM
Uh, yeah.  You registered in March of 2020 and have knowledge enough of forum politics to post crap like this (in the wrong section, by the way.  This should be in Meta).

You're another alt account of an old member who has an old grudge, and you're not putting a new face on any new issues, just rehashing....something.  You linked to an old thread about "Lauda's gang" which really isn't a thing.

Check other forums and find more info about people you deal with yourself as the bitcointalk trust system is useless now .
Check other forums for what?

And what moderators do ...they take their side ...possible they are part of the scam also .
What scam?  Please tell me what scam you're talking about exactly, with references if you've got them.
4469  Economy / Economics / Re: CFTC Orders JPMorgan to Pay Record $920 Million for Spoofing and Manipulation on: October 01, 2020, 10:16:54 PM
How did the CFTC determine they profited only $172 hundred million (the disgorgement amount)? Something tells me they made a lot more than that over that period of time.
Yeah, that figure does seem very low given that the "spoofing" was done over a number of years.

So precious metals were being manipulated after all--I called people crazy conspiracy theorists whenever I'd hear them complaining about vague manipulation, but I'll be damned if it wasn't true all along.  And I'm fairly certain that JPM wasn't the only big financial institution engaged in that sort of chicanery.  What motherfuckers they and their ilk are.  Once upon a time, JP Morgan was one of the most respected and straight-dealing firms on Wall Street (in the early 20th century and earlier, at least).  Now they're as despicable as Goldman Sachs and the rest of them.

This ~$1 billion fine is a drop in the bucket and feels like a slap on the wrist, despite the initial shock value of the headline.
I'm not sure what a $1billion fine means to a business like JPM, but since all these investment banks, retail banks, the Fed, and the government are all in bed together you'd better believe they weren't going to be hit with a fine that could cripple them.  And of course nobody's going to jail.  That's American justice for you.
4470  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Diginex Stock Goes Live on Nasdaq Following $50M in SPAC and Private Funding on: October 01, 2020, 02:08:40 PM
Alright, that's interesting--I've added them to my stock brokerage's watch list.  I assume they'll still be based out of Singapore?

Also, I can't find information about them with my brokerage's research tools.  There's this odd statement that I've never heard describe another corporation before:

Quote
8i Enterprises Acquisition Corp. is a blank check company.
**Source: TD Ameritrade**

So what is Diginex exactly?  Are they an exchange?  I've never heard of them before, nor the 8i company that presumably was the original company behind the stock.  True, I've probably not heard of a lot of foreign exchanges, but you'd think I'd have heard of one that's now listed on the NASDAQ.  Anyway.  It'll be interesting to see how it performs.
4471  Other / Meta / Re: Don't send PMs begging for merits. on: October 01, 2020, 01:24:46 PM
Seems some people are getting desperate to rank up as a couple of people have messaged me recently as well as a couple of people reporting unsolicited PMs.
Yep, I got one unsolicited PM that I could barely make sense of, but it had to do with merits and I think the member was asking me to review his post history.  I don't consider that merit begging and I actually don't mind if members send me PMs asking me to review their posts, but in this last case I deferred replying to the member since I had a hard time figuring out what he was asking exactly.

PMs that just ask you "plz can u give me 1 mrit" or similar ones (I've gotten those too) should be reported IMO, because they're not asking you to give them merits based on the quality of anything they've posted.  Fortunately I haven't gotten any of those in a long time.

By the way, blocking PMs from Newbies is likely the reason I haven't gotten any idiotic merit begging PMs.  That's something I'd encourage anyone to do if they've gotten spam PMs from Newbies.
4472  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: I got scammed in btc i can get refund in any way sir ? Plz help ): on: October 01, 2020, 02:06:13 AM
If you are scammed and posting but why you added a referral link. Are you trying to promote that website? I am confused.
He might have included that reference link by mistake, but who knows.  Opening a scam accusation thread against a website you're promoting isn't exactly the smartest way to promote anything.  Then again, OP doesn't sound like he's very sharp to begin with.

you forgot the chances of being scammed due to your extrrme greediness.
Probably more like extreme desperation and lack of common sense.  What was the amount he got scammed for, around $60 or so?  This guy's lucky he didn't send them more money than he did.  The lesson he (hopefully) learned could have been a lot more expensive.
4473  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Coinbase offers exit package for employees not comfortable with its mission on: September 30, 2020, 09:04:16 PM
First of all, stop dressing it up with obvious lies about "changing the world" and "solving inequality". Just be honest and say what you really mean - "We don't want to take sides in any political debate because that will alienate the other side and that might turn off some customers and affect our profits, which after all, is all we care about."
Yeah, that's all politically correct corporate double-speak that was no doubt written by a spin team or a committee put together to craft the most progressive statement possible without really saying much of anything.

Every company I know of does the same fucking thing, and I've learned to see past statements like that.

This means we want to use cryptocurrency to bring economic freedom to people all over the world.
Fuck off. Just fuck off Coinbase. If this were even a little true, you wouldn't hand over customers' private data to the IRS. <snip>
That's another fluff statement.  I would absolutely love it if someone at Coinbase (or any other crypto organization for that matter) could lucidly tell the world how cryptocurrency is going to "bring economic freedom to people all over the world".  Frankly, that's a line shitposters on bitcointalk have been writing for years and it's meaningless.  There's no way crypto can achieve anything close to providing economic freedom to people unless the banking system collapses, people start getting paid in crypto, stores start pricing goods in terms of crypto.....and on and on.

Those who left Coinbase were the smart ones.
4474  Other / Meta / Re: With money, comes fame. True words. A "Thank You" message inside. on: September 30, 2020, 05:40:34 PM
To be honest, I don't think that it was just money that motivated these users to post superior quality posts but their hunger of helping the community with something new every single day is what brought them the fame they deserved.
Uh, no.  I think members like the ones you pointed out were accepted into the Chipmixer campaign precisely because of the quality of their posts and/or their reputations.  The Chipmixer campaign is extremely selective.

I'd also point out that if you take a look at the entire list of Chipmixer campaign participants, they're not all well-known members by any means.  Some of the newer participants' usernames I don't even recognize, which makes me wonder which sections they're posting in.

As for ChipMixer, didn't know a campaign could last this long to be honest.
Yeah, it's definitely been going on longer than a lot of other ones, although Yobit's first campaign went on for a long time, as did Secondstrade's (remember them?).

I'm not sure "fame" is the right word to use as far as bitcointalk members go--except for Satoshi, perhaps.  Some members might be more well-known, but I wouldn't call anyone here famous.
4475  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Best Hardware wallet on: September 30, 2020, 04:23:30 PM
Due to crypto being illegal in my country
I'm curious as to just how illegal crypto is in your country, i.e., can you get jail time just for owning bitcoin (or altcoins)?  You've got some balls on you if you're that passionate about crypto that you're willing to shop for a HW wallet despite crypto being prohibited where you are.

I've had experience with only three HW wallets, the Ledger Nano S and X and the Keepkey.  If you're in the market for a HW wallet, my suggestion to you would be to not mess around with any of the lesser-known ones that you might see on Amazon.  I'd also stay away from the Keepkey, too.

The only two reputable brands that I know of are Trezor and Ledger, and IMO you ought to choose one of those if you're going to break the law (which I don't condone).  From everything I've heard, the Trezor is just fine, but I don't care for its appearance, and I like the very small size of the Ledger devices--plus I've had no problems with either model so far.  Best of luck in your shopping, and I hope your government changes its attitude.
4476  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: defi exch trading vs normal exch trading on: September 29, 2020, 08:09:39 PM
Was this posted in meta as an example of what to expect from an account that's more than 10 months old has nearly 300 posts and not a single merit.
This thread's a bit old, but I missed it before and I would have thought what you wrote but probably wouldn't have expended the energy criticizing OP.  Looks like he never came back to discuss any of the replies...typical.

I don't know much about DeFi exchanges, but I've tried learning a little bit about what DeFi is and it still kind of perplexes me.  The way I see it is that it all comes down to lending, and there are all of these little twists to that basic premise that apparently make some people a lot of profit.  What I also know is that it's the hot new thing--and that makes me even more skeptical than I would normally be.  Most of us know the route ICOs took through the course of crypto history, and I'm afraid DeFi appears to be following that path.

Buying and selling to trade DeFi coins has a very big risk for asset loss, but on the other hand, you are very fast to get profit in a short time
Right, just like ICOs.  Be one of the first ones to sell your tokens and you might do well.  It's a big gamble, and I question whether DeFi actually performs anything useful.
4477  Economy / Reputation / Re: Repeated pollution of Collectibles section by user Alamjob239/RainbowSky - NUTS! on: September 29, 2020, 04:21:31 PM
I doubt this guy and his alt accounts are going to get banned, so the only thing I'd suggest is to keep making local rules like you did and put all of his alts on ignore.  It sounds like he'll keep creating them anyway, but if you ignore him long enough he'll go away.

Aside from what you deemed to be a psychotic meltdown that he had, and some misinformation that he spread, what has this guy done exactly to garner so much ire in the Collectibles section?  Just from what I briefly read, he doesn't seem to be a typical troll.  How did he rub members the wrong way, and how long has this been going on for--since October 2019 when the Alamjob239 account was registered?

Edit:
If I go to all of your threads I will assure you I will find out you are nothing but a nutcase as well.
Oh, you have no idea my friend.  No idea.

But with that, I shall gracefully bow out of this discussion.
4478  Other / Meta / Re: Default trust is the most important metric here in my opinion. on: September 29, 2020, 03:52:08 PM
I've been pretty active and controversial in the covid threads, and I am saddened by the fact that most people don't seem to bother with the observable facts, and just accept the pharmaceutical narrative, and I wonder if this has affected my trust ranking in some way.
The pharmaceutical narrative affecting your trust ranking?  Where are you posting your opinions about COVID-19 primarily, is it in Serious Discussion or Ivory Tower?  I'll have to un-ignore those sections if that's the case, because I'm interested to read your opinions.

But no, I really don't think any of that has anything to do with where you stand as far as being on DT.  Frankly, I stopped paying attention to who is or isn't on it months ago, and though I assume I'm probably still on DT2, in truth I have no idea.

Why does it matter to you so much whether you're trusted on the forum?  It isn't going to give more weight to your opinions on things like COVID-19.

So my question is - how can members improve their trust ratings if there are no business trading opportunities in the forum?
Fighting scammers, not being a scammer, time, and getting to know other members on a level that's more than superficial.  Those things help over time--but there are trading opportunities on the forum, e.g., in the Currency Exchange section, although that's not a great way to obtain green trust from a DT member if that DT member is prudent as far as handing out positive feedbacks goes.
4479  Economy / Reputation / Re: Thread for the insufferable twit Timelord2067 to bitch about suchmoon on: September 29, 2020, 02:24:03 PM
i believe he detected its gender looking at some irrefutable evidence that is currently being verified
Stop trolling and find some best topic to enrich your knowledge vault first.
Not only do I think he won't stop, I think he's just getting started.  To that end, he's going straight to my ignore list.  Got a feeling that this account is just another CH/Bitcoin SV alt and is only going to add more noise to any thread.

Suchmoon, I haven't been following this drama with you and Timelord2067, though I think I knew there was some sort of tension between you two.  What's this doxxing thing all about?  And Timelord2067 has been growing more and more hostile toward DT members in general as time passes.  I do remember a time when he was just an eccentric member who would connect accounts with varying degrees of accuracy, but now he's extremely defensive and takes constructive criticism as if it were a personal attack.

Glad you didn't make this thread self-moderated, suchmoon, but damn....you just invited all the trolls to a fucking Hannibal Lecter dinner party where they expect your brains to be served up with juniper berries.
4480  Economy / Reputation / Re: Bitcoin SV and their self moderated topics on: September 28, 2020, 11:26:40 PM
OP, you must be late to the sad, moldy, little party that is the presence of Bitcoin SV.

There was a thread recently about him deleting every post in one of his threads, and I even created a thread to discuss issues with him without fear of having your post deleted.

The long and short of this is that Bitcoin SV is a trolling moron who should be put on your ignore list as quickly as possible, without hesitation.  Failure to do so will only result in your continued frustration with his nonsense.
