4461  Economy / Speculation / Re: Managed retirement funds safe to invest or should I stick with cash? on: April 06, 2020, 04:22:09 PM
Instead of cash why not gold?
Because it doesn't rise very much and it's hyperinflated. It can see bubbles but there are also problems with divisibility and it being faked to look like it's gold when it isn't. Also, I'd much prefer platinum to gold.

As it grows old its value keeps on soaring high and she never have a single doubt as she talk about it.
So, I buy her gold. Earrings, necklaces and anything but, she never wear it.
She just stash it somewhere in her wardrobe.  Grin

Are gold jewellery items not more expensive than the gold? Does their value keep going up in line with it? I suppose you already have a usable and divisible format but compared to gold bars, their value is pretty limited.

I am seeing this question being asked pretty much everywhere on the web, even got some friends calling me and asking "What stocks should I buy".
Yeah it is probably quite a debate now. I haven't even gone near my day trading accounts in the past few weeks, I've just left them with what I had.

I noticed that with my stock brokerages I use, they are posting warnings such as "Due to extreme volume your support will take longer than usual" and looking at Google trends for "buy stocks" you will see its at a record high, higher than 2009 bear market.
Mine were saying they were trying to open over the weekend and take on enough call centres to handle the new demand. It's helpful to note that it was also the end of the UK's tax year and may be the end of quite a few other countries (potentially a lot of europe at least).

So I am thinking that since everybody is buying stocks, that they will go down in the near future and you are better off waiting for a better time. If you follow the S&P500 or DOW30, then it should hit yearly support when its about 50% from the ATH, at around 1600 SPX or so. So wait until then... and buy.
Yeah, I'm comfortable waiting out another fall just to know that I have some underlying assets. I think I was holding too much cash and crypto yesterday for what I'd reasonably like to be diversified in.

Avoid stocks which are too cheap like airlines or cruises, they are cheap for a reason. Most likely will go bankrupt and shares will be worth $0.

Budget airlines, I can see doing alright here... They have relationships with curriers that might take planes earlier for a reasonable price. A company like EasyJet seems to have a business model of buying new planes, using the earnings from passengers to pay off the interest on loans they get to buy the planes and then sell them on to courriers. There is a bit of a problem with the panic buyers around so there'll still be demand by the courriers on those planes for the time being...
4462  Local / Mining (Deutsch) / Re: Antminer u2 cgminer Brauche Hilfe on: April 06, 2020, 12:19:23 AM
Hallo, du kannst lese diese tutorial: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=555638.0

Das Ubersetz mit Google translate (siet habt ich kein Zeit! Grin)/translated with Google translate (since I don't have enough time to do the entire thing by hand - below)

Quote
Hallo allerseits.

4463  Economy / Speculation / Re: Managed retirement funds safe to invest or should I stick with cash? on: April 06, 2020, 12:00:59 AM
Saving cash will not provide any benefit unless it can only be taken at any time you need.
Likewise, if invested in Bitcoin or other Crypto, you must be aware that the investment has a high risk where the price has a high fluctuation, so if you do not have the courage for it do not do it.

I have quite a bit in crypto and I'm not positive on it in the immediate term. I also keep finding random amounts in different places so I'm quite happy with my holdings there and want to start something just in case Bitcoin crashes to zero. I plan to half my hodl position around $100000-$300000 if we get that high, so I need something else to invest those funds in...

0% is a lot better than -30% eh? Tongue

My IRA has been 100% cash since mid-2018. I was kicking myself all last year as stocks pushed new highs but it finally paid off. I still haven't bought back into any funds yet, even though I think there's a good chance the bottom is already in. I'm waiting until the recovery becomes more clear, but I also wouldn't blame less risk averse people for dipping their toes back into the market.

I dunno, if you buy a kilo of potatoes and the price drops but you still had food is it really a regret?

You diversify between coal, wheat, platinum, real estate and stocks and the price of them falls, you've still got them. You can still keep yourself warm, sheltered and have something shiny to look at - you could come off much worse.

I panicked in the crash, invested in Morrison's stock with $100 and pulled out $180 somehow, so what's life without some sort of risk... I haven't put everything on RED or ODD, I've balanced it on the world.

I need to have a look a pricing up real estate again, I had the basic funds for it a while ago but don't want to start a project unless I have high enough reserves of at least double my original investment as I don't want to take out a mortgage on small income.
4464  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Complete Newbie on: April 05, 2020, 06:44:34 PM
I haven't heard of domestic units going as high as 12kw. If you have access to them and an appropriate fuse/cbbr and it doesn't become too hot...

Not sure why people have left this for so long to reply although I'm also not sure if there are retail psus capable of handling 6600W.... And unless a splitter is licensed for the full 12000 if suggest caution before trying to use it.
4465  Economy / Speculation / Managed retirement funds safe to invest or should I stick with cash? on: April 05, 2020, 04:44:57 PM
I'm wondering whether to use some of my isa allowance for retirement funds or whether is should just deposit cash (that earns interest).

Vanguard offer a target retirement 2050 which looks to be quite risky at this time but is it worth investing if I don't need the funds now or should I hold off and invest cash? My current bank accounts are making a very strong 0% interest too so...

There is no big difference between FFP2 and FFP3, because it is only a double or triple filter, with FFP2 you get minimum of 94% protection and with FFP3 you get 99% minimum filtration. However, it should be stressed that even if the mask provides 100% protection, it does not make sense if we do not have eye protection - because we can get infected through the mucous membrane of the eye, through infected hands or drip infection.

Yeah the eye masks is a good point. Not only can the mucous and tears membrane spread it but the conjunctiva can also catch it (according to Australian ophthalmologists) - but I can't find the original source anywhere from them since us sources are topping the lists.

2 meters is the recommended distance almost everywhere in the world, and WHO is say "Maintain at least 1 metre (3 feet) distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing., so there is no need to exaggerate this advice by as much as 4 meters. It is also not advisable to go out at all, except for groceries or in some emergencies, any unnecessary walk is just a risk to yourself and others.

My biology classes always taught that salive from a cough can travel up to 3 metres. People either underestimate or overestimate the 2 metre distance as is so you're better off sticking with 4 where you can...

https://www.sciencefocus.com/the-human-body/how-far-do-coughs-and-sneezes-travel/ (concentration will reduce enough by 4 imo but if you want to do 6 or 8 then thsts fine as long as there's enough room). The suggestion of 2 metres is generally advised because a lot of corner shops in countries like the UK will only be able to fit 2 or 3 people in (or even just the one) if we go off 6 to 8 metres.... National advice is recommendation of a minimum.
4467  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Crypto over health on: April 05, 2020, 02:28:35 PM
If your time to prepare is the time for action, I think you should really consider that... If possible, you should already have had a month's supply of food just in case (I.e. A sudden famine would mean you have at least 4 months of food).

Most masks you see will do very little for the coronavirus. My thread seemed to bring on a discussion of how ffp3s offer some good protection but still aren't a full barrier against the disease...

Social distance with at least 4 metres where possible, go outside for at least 2 hours every day on your own private land or 1 hour for a walk if you can maintain social distancing (and it's legally permissable where you are). Don't eat too much or too little and do at least 20 minutes of exercise or 6 minutes of hiit throughout the day and aim for 8+ hours sleep every night (or your average +1)...
4468  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: How to use CoinMarketCap for Volume? on: April 03, 2020, 06:46:12 PM
If a trader says "volume has been building steadily during the day", do you think he's been monitoring the 5 minute chart and seeing larger and larger spikes on the volume indicator?

I haven't heard peopel use a 5 minute chart. 1 minute, 15 minute, 1 hour and 4 hours would be my focus for trades during the day. A volume increase over the 24 hour period probably means they've compared it to yesterday or that they've seen a recent spike that's been gorwing.

The language people use - espeically traders - is extremely subjective and normally based on what they want others to think they're doing.
4469  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: How to use CoinMarketCap for Volume? on: April 03, 2020, 05:56:57 PM
If volume insteases for a coin there's a greater chance of arbitrage trading (trading the gap between exchanges) and there's more of a chance the coin will get noticed by others.

I don't know if anyone actually follows volume on coin market cap though. I'd use other websites like trading view with a specific asset to track volume changes over time...
4470  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Address and funds problems on: April 02, 2020, 02:54:19 AM

I thought you knew that Electrum Mobile currently doesn't support BIP39 seed, only on the development build or next release,
that's why you replied that he wont be able to recover it to Electrum.

It's what I was trying to say without mentioning the derivation path in order not to add to the confusion. I really don't want to suggest changing the derivation path, as with a lot of wallets it can get very confusing as to what their standard derivation path is and it's difficult for a new user without experience to try to use when they could just bash their mnemonic into another wallet that accepts their words.
4471  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Address and funds problems on: April 02, 2020, 01:30:36 AM
They're both mobile wallets, you won't be able to recover them on Electrum mobile if it's the only device op has...
That's too risky.

Did you mean to quote me? What is? A lot of people just have the one machine... In Europe and North America you normally get desktops, laptops and mobiles but I don't think they've quite reached everywhere yet so some just have mobiles...

Electrum will use a different derivation path to samouri and exodus so you can't use it to restore your wallet unless you have a desktop handy where you can change the path.
4472  Other / Meta / Re: Show time when an old post is deleted? on: April 01, 2020, 06:58:32 PM
Yeah mine was mining related... Not entirely sure why, maybe an user just trashed all their threads at once or something.

Did you see a time on any of yours?

That's a rarety these days but it's nice for us to see the company have rectified their mistakes/problems.
4474  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [April 2020] Fees are low, use this opportunity to Consolidate small inputs! on: April 01, 2020, 06:33:53 PM
Just thought your readers might like to know that as well as paying little or next to no (1sat) fees to consolidate their transactions, they can also rebroadcast their transactions via the websites listed in this thread:
That's only necessary after nodes have dropped the transaction (when it takes a long time to confirm). As far as I know, Bitcoin Core keeps broadcasting a transaction until it's either confirmed, or the user forces the wallet to drop it.

Or it drops out of the mempool depth for a lot of nodes. Pools and block explorers. Will have huge depths but I don't know how far they'll be, it can help to propagate your transaction into a different series of nodes if it didn't reach a certain pool though...
4475  Other / Meta / Show time when an old post is deleted? on: April 01, 2020, 06:29:39 PM
I had an old post deleted on a self mod topic and I'm not sure when it was posted, it looks like the old style of what I'd post while very early on here (bit more like the linguistics of 16 year old me)...

Anyone else think it'd be helpful to receive the time a post was posted in the deleted post message?
4476  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin to Electrum... Fail? on: April 01, 2020, 06:23:51 PM
So it doesn't matter that is says "not connected" I'll just have to wait?

Is thee a resin you just replied the the one post? If you reply to more seine will be able to get your problem fixed much faster...
4477  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Covid19 test kits available UK domestic or international delivery on: April 01, 2020, 02:05:19 PM
You might want to change the title if it isn't a corona test kit... Keep everyone informed before someone accidentally makes a hurried purchase. Don't know how many vulnerable people there will be in this sort of forum though.
4478  Economy / Economics / Re: Economy is dying but market prices are going up? on: April 01, 2020, 01:48:07 PM
[if you want to respond to this, @me don't quote my post]

I think it's probably because it's still a fairly prosperous market. If this all gets solved by q2 or q3 then production will start again... It lost a lot of retail investors also, a lot of banks and insurance companies will still have to be diversified into stocks somewhat even when they're plunging. But I didn't pull out of my long term positions and I imagine a lot of others didn't either... I don't know where it'll go from here down or up but it doesn't look like we'll see another massive crash unless something new comes up.
4479  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Address and funds problems on: April 01, 2020, 01:04:48 AM
I never used any of these wallets. If you have seed / private key then you can try importing the wallet in electrum.

They're both mobile wallets, you won't be able to recover them on Electrum mobile if it's the only device op has...
4480  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Address and funds problems on: April 01, 2020, 12:32:34 AM
Do you have any idea what the address was?

Generally when you use an address the address no longer gets listed as a receiving address for privacy purposes but if both were downloaded from reputable sources, you'll have the address in your wallet most likely.

Could you try restoring it on the old software you were using - samouri?
