4481  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽UEFA EURO 2020 Discussion Thread | Current Phase: Finals in June 2021! on: June 13, 2021, 03:46:11 PM
I think nobody consider Croatia as potential contenders to win EURO 2020, I think even most people from Croatia don't have such expectations. They're going to fight for 2nd place in group most likely with Czech Republic and it's not going to be easy.
True, people in Croatia don't see us as one of the contenders (me included) as it's not the same team as it was in Russia but still I expected from players like Modric, Brozovic and Kovacic to control the middle, but I guess that was too much to ask Cheesy. Regarding England, they don't look any better than they were in previous years.

Generally, for us goal is always to reach the 2nd round, and anything above that is bonus. This year is no exception.

Modric was the only outstanding player in the Croatian side today he was dishing out accurate passess all over the pictch however his team mates played badly
Yep. Unfortunately, he can't do everything by himself. Vrsaljko was especially bad, by far the worst player on the pitch, followed by the completely lost Brozovic.
4482  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽UEFA EURO 2020 Discussion Thread | Current Phase: Finals in June 2021! on: June 13, 2021, 03:30:49 PM
I forgot how really good this England squad is on paper.  I haven’t checked the outright lines yet but they could be one of the favorites to win it..  Prolly right up there with Belgium and maybe Germany and France?
After watching them today against Croatia, I honestly don't see how they can win Euro. I mean, we (Croatia) were absolutely horrendous, basically all team beside maybe Modric and one or two players were utter shit. Best of all, by some projections it's even better to finish 2nd in the group, and avoid some tough teams in the next round, so not all is lost for Croatia, but after what I saw today I am not the optimist at all.

Gonna miss Austria vs North Macedonia and then watch Netherlands vs Ukraine.
4483  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Mjesečna Analiza za Hrvatsku Lokalnu Zajednicu (Bitcointalk Croatian) on: June 13, 2021, 03:26:27 PM
Mlade snage napadaju.

4484  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Mjesečna Analiza za Hrvatsku Lokalnu Zajednicu (Bitcointalk Croatian) on: June 13, 2021, 09:52:45 AM

4485  Other / Meta / Re: Proposal to Forum Academy Trainee on: June 13, 2021, 08:49:56 AM
When I first registered here, posting photos was the furthest thing from my mind, and I'd be suspicious of any newbie that absolutely needs to post pics right away.  Most likely he's trying to promote something and for whatever reason is targeting the bitcointalk community.
Exactly this.

It's like we don't have enough social platforms that are swarmed with videos, images and gifs, and now we need the same thing here on bitcointalk. I can only imagine the amount of mess if every single brand new account is able to share the image (considering the fact that vast majority of new account are made for abusing bounty campaigns, or some other similarly dodgy stuff) and as other before me said, it would be an oversized one, since newbies (and often even more experienced members) don't pay attention to that.

4486  Other / Meta / Re: Proposal to Forum Academy Trainee on: June 11, 2021, 04:17:30 PM
Before posting this topic I have made some research and I find out that newbies are not allowed to post pictures. I see the barrier to be too much.
And how exactly is posting images crucial to your form activity that you can't wait to become Jr Member, which if you are legit member shouldn't take more than a month or two. The only situation in which I see being able to post images right from the start is if you wanna promote some business or service, and in that case you might consider paying for copper membership which will remove some of the Newbie restrictions

Some newbies who actually may not know this might make the mistake and post link and has their account ban. It will be a good Idea if there can be an alternative to my proposals
Newbies getting banned just because posting some harmless link? First time I hear about this.
4487  Other / Meta / Re: [CHARTS] Brief monthly overview of the local boards activity on: June 11, 2021, 02:55:43 PM

The difference is significant. And the behavior of the graph in the first picture is too unnatural.
Yeah I know about the differences, and I am aware of the numbers on ninjastic.space, I check them every month while making that list of the most active users per local board. I said in one of my previous posts when I gonna start using ninjastic.space for the post count. Until then, plan is to stick with Merit Dashboard. Smiley
4488  Other / Meta / Re: This thing with the accounts' farming has to stop... on: June 10, 2021, 09:18:03 AM
I don’t want to post a new thread, so let me ask you how you would feel about a merit source that gives merit to explicitly farm accounts?
I know that you are well versed and can distinguish between alternate accounts, so I just suggest taking a look at this topic and see how the source of merit distributes the merit to Newbies.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5294824.40
Generally I am careful when sending a merit to a newbie, but then again I have very limited amount of merit so it makes it much easier for me to do something like that. I do agree that there was an obvious account farm active in that thread, but not everyone cares about checking accounts prior sending merit, especially if they have bigger monthly allocation.

I cannot yet prove that newcomers to this topic are breaking anything, but that this is a  farm, I think there is no doubt.
Yep, that it is an account farm without a doubt, but as you said, so far they haven't started doing bounty, shilling in threads or any of the other typical stuff they do. Sooner or later they will probably start doing something as you don't make bunch of accounts for no purpose.

My guess is that person behind those sock puppet accounts saw that there is some merit being shared in that topic, so he tried his luck with couple of accounts. Some got merit, some didn't.

And if you pay attention, today those accounts are active that Merit's source awarded a merit in that topic. Did he give them a start in life?
Thing is, even if you occasionally give some fake Newbie account merit or two (which is bound to happen if you are merit source and like to give merit to Newbies) in the grand scheme of things it doesn't mean much, as shitposter will have a hard time reaching  higher ranks so I think that's why no one cares much about it.
4489  Other / Meta / Re: Can moderators be asked to close threads of banned accounts? on: June 10, 2021, 08:25:27 AM

If people know that their messages can be deleted, then it will be unprofitable for them to write platitudes.
And people will figure that out after their posts gets deleted enough time. In the 2nd example of yours, user @Delightcrypto1 bumped thread that was inactive for couple of months. I reported the post (that got deleted pretty fast, ) for bumping inactive thread but while waiting for post to gets deleted, few more were written, and conversation went on.

Can we complain to the moderators that the messages that come after the warning that the OP is banned are low-level messages? The topic is no longer relevant and the person who asked will not read the answers, but people, without reading it, just post the same thing.
Imho, best is to simply report post or two, just to try it out. And if its marked as good, then continue doing do.
4490  Other / Meta / Re: This thing with the accounts' farming has to stop... on: June 09, 2021, 08:33:27 AM
Each one may see it differently. I, personally, see this meriting-for-payment as a way to encourage the manager to continue paying.
Some members are probably doing that (or at least trying), thinking that it might increase their chance of staying in the campaign, or getting into new one. But mostly this is just sort of "thank you" for work done etc.

Doing that imho is not the best way to use your merit (as I said before), but I don't think that it would be good for forum to start picking on each of the ways someone spends the merit as it may bring more harm than good. Who in their right mind would want to be a merit source if you have to think few times before sending merit to someone, and how its going to be perceived.

Especially in that campaign, if I remember correctly, there were lots of merits given when the manager picked merit sources for the weekly bonus. Well, that was a mark of continuing picking them for the bonus.
You were part of that campaign for 9 weeks, and 7 times you got the bonus (well deserved I must say, you are quality poster), without you giving merits each time you were picked up. I was also picked up many times in the last year since I was part of the campaign without giving merit for that (at least I don't remember doing that) so were the others. So I don't think that giving merit will increase  chances at all, at least not in the eyes of the manager.
4491  Other / Meta / Re: Effect Of Plagiarism In Forum. on: June 09, 2021, 05:06:50 AM
Please how did you land at this? It seems organized but it is passing a wrong information. It the act of teaching people the wrong thing. I think plagiarism is better than what you have committed. Let me not just conclude because you might be correct from your angle when you prove it.

The word "Pla" in in Greek does not mean "Use" and I don't think there is a word like "Giarism" in Greek. Infact to set the record straight, Plagiarism is gotten from a Latin word not Greek "Plagiare" which means to Kidnap.
Please how did you get your thesis?
Since OP got banned for plagiarism ( ironic considering he started this thread) he won't be able to answer your questions, but most obvious reason is ignorance. Anyway, @nullius already explained this issue earlier in the thread and root of the word "plagiarism"
4492  Other / Meta / Re: Effect Of Plagiarism In Forum. on: June 08, 2021, 05:55:28 PM
It's simple if you know about it. Where did you get the info from the first time you used those image codes? You either saw it somewhere, asked someone and then memorized the code or saved it somewhere for future use. I am pretty sure not everyone knows about those image tags and just adds the images in their original size or uses another service for resizing like Imgur.
Same can be said about image upload on imgur (or anything else for that matter). I am pretty sure that not everyone knows about it, and those that know, probably had to ask someone, or maybe saw it somewhere. Cheesy

I know that not everyone knows about this way to resize the images, but somehow I thought that this is pretty much common knowledge for anyone with some forum experience.
4493  Other / Meta / Re: Effect Of Plagiarism In Forum. on: June 08, 2021, 05:17:24 PM

It could be the mods prefer not to interfere in image plagiarism as it's a grey area, so they rather avoid making a decision. It would be better to hear directly from a mod, if it's a ban-able offense.
Yeah that's what I was thinking too, they simply don't wanna open that pandora box or set any kind of precedent on image plagiarism, no matter how obvious it is, and no matter the evidence.  After all, that's why I probably didn't get any feedback from forum staff on that case.

I wonder if it would end up the same way if someone copied image from someone on the forum, and claim to be his own.
4494  Other / Meta / Re: [CHARTS] Brief monthly overview of the local boards activity on: June 08, 2021, 01:33:33 PM
Good work as usual.
Thanks!

This reminds me I am late with my own analysis on the Italian local board.
Damn, real life, stop interfering with my posting habits!
Haha, I know the feeling, I also have a very hectic schedule for the last couple of months and its affecting my posting habits as well. I used to wait every first Friday of the month for @DdmrDdmr to update his merit dashboard  so I can start working on this imemdiately, and now it takes me couple of days to make this.

Your analysis of Italian board is extremely detailed and I am sure it takes a lot of time to compile all that, so I am not surprised that you are postponing it, as I am often doing the same for Croatian board, albeit its way less detailed than yours.
4495  Other / Meta / Re: Effect Of Plagiarism In Forum. on: June 08, 2021, 12:32:02 PM

Plagiarism does apply to images cause it can be stolen, but it's difficult to prove, probably the reason why it is not strictly enforced.
On bitcointalk, even if you prove image plagiarism, and plagiarist admits it, he still won't get banned, like in this case Shouldn't this be treated as an obvious plagiarism case?. Can;t be more blatant that that, with all the evidence needed, yet user avoided ban. Yet, if he copied some insignificant sentence, he would end up getting banned. Doesn't make much sense to me, but it is what it is.

I have seen members do that a lot. They upload an image to imgur to take advantage of imgur's quick resizing options. As you know, Bitcointalk doesn't have resizing buttons available when you create new posts. You would need to know the codes by heart to resize your images properly.
Isn't image resizing on bitcointalk pretty simple and straightforward? You just add either width or height number in that "[Img width/height=xyz]" bracket and thats about it? Like 2 seconds work.
4496  Other / Meta / Re: [CHARTS] Brief monthly overview of the local boards activity on: June 08, 2021, 12:12:36 PM
Another month is behind us, time to see some local boards numbers!

As always, charts were made using data provided by @DdmrDdmr via his Merit Dashboard, which I suggest you should check if you want more in-depth look at the specific local board.

Communities that are marked with "*" are those without local board, but I think that they deserve mention, at least those most active ones that have some chances getting their own local board in the future.

Post activity per local board during May 2021

After few months of decline, this time local boards have a slight increased total number of posts, from 23391 to 24300, but it is increase nevertheless. No change at the top, Turkish board was the most active one like in previous months, followed by the Russian (which again had high amount of deleted/removed post that affected their total number significantly) and German boards.

It's nice to see that Portuguese board is increasing activity month after month, and same can be said about two communities without local board, Nigerian and especially Pakistan that are having very solid numbers as well, given the difficulty of writing everything in the same thread. Might be the time for forum staff to consider adding few more local boards and help those communities to further develop.

Merit shared per local board during May 2021

Despite the increase in posting activity, total amount of merits shared on local boards went down, from 4303 during April to 3929 in May, which is ~9% decrease. Majority of  boards had more or less similar numbers like in April, with Russian board at the top like in previous months, while German board had pretty significant decrease for such a big board. Something weird is happening with Pilipinas board too, as they had only 20 merits shared, which is very low for their post amount.

Among boards that increased amount of merits shared, Nigerian board sticks out. While in April they shared only 2 merits, last month it went up to 69 merits.

Merit senders/receivers per local board during May 2021

Another self explanatory chart, just to show amount of members that are part of the each board's merit activity. Naturally, more merit usually means more members involved, but there are are always few boards that have very big "merit network", relative to the amount of merit that they shared.

Merit/Post ratio per local board for May 2021

Last but not the least in this series of charts, merit/post ratio chart. Usual names are at the top, and same can be same about the bottom. Maybe its time for some boards to get more merit sources.

The most active members during May 2021 per local board

For the end of this monthly overview, list of most active members of each local board, done with the data from @TryNinja ninjastic.space

I wonder what attracted the META theme lately, these two accounts?
Do you only own two accounts, or would you like to express your opinion on four more of your accounts?
Why can't you tell everything in one post?
Worst of all, he goes around and bumps threads that were inactive for months (which I reported)  without adding anything new and just writing some generic crap. It that's some merit farming attempt, its pretty weak one.

Some short temporary ban should be issued for accounts like that one.
4498  Other / Meta / Re: This thing with the accounts' farming has to stop... on: June 07, 2021, 05:27:16 PM
I wouldn't really call it merit abuse, but maybe not the best way of using the merit.

If you're a merit source, it's abuse.
If you feel like that, then report merit sources doing that. You won't have much issues finding some cases. As I said, I don't think that it's the best way to use merit, but I'm not sure that theymos wants to meddle too much into that, as people are sharing merit for all sorts of things nowadays.

IMO there's a lot of merit abusing, it may just not seem clear. For example, a person that merits a campaign manager for... paying him should be considered merit abuse.
I always cringe when I see someone  meriting manager for sending the payment lol. I wouldn't really call it merit abuse, but maybe not the best way of using the merit. Then again, people nowadays use merit for all sorts of things, not necessarily for quality/helpful posts.

It is always funny to read how hunters that just add hashtags while doing 5 weekly retweets complain more than others or say “we work hard and must be paid”.
Oh yeah, that standard story about "hard work" which in reality consists of 5 minutes per week for tweets, and a little bit longer than that for paraphrased or text spinned article. That of course doesn't mean that they shouldn't be paid for the work done, but they should stop kidding themselves that what they do is hard, or that is crucial for project's success.
