on the unresponsive stick try setting the pot directly down towards the usb plug. then try running it directly in a usb 2 socket on a computer (no hub) with cgminer-gekko with no speed setting on the command line and no conf file. it should default to 125 mhz from what i recall.
that might rule out a power problem. most any desktop should run a single compac at stock speed

i still cant get that 1 sad guy to hash. also in minera am starting to see more entries like: COMPAC11 COMPAC12 COMPAC13 COMPAC14 COMPAC15 It seems to be reproducing them, looks like this: https://i.imgur.com/KcOmhRh.jpgany idea on that? with cgminer if a stick goes unresponsive it will try to revive it with a new number. I would get lots of compac 3,4,5,6 etc when I only had 2. with one running beyond its speed for its voltage, it would "die" and cgminer just will not give up trying to bring it back from the dead with a new identity.

can we start the run earlier? say I fire it up the night before, screenshot it at 7 AM local time on 21 November, then 24 hours later.. ie a more than 24 hour run as long as at least 24 hours of it is in that time frame. Ive noticed that sometimes the stick is hard to start at high clocks and once it fires at a particular speed it tends to just run.
yeah we make you first about 7am east coast time. once you think it is working. sat 705 or 710 or even 730 am . post a screenshot of the miner gui.+ crypto glance. I will post a comparable matching cryptoglance. and a shot from ckpool So I have vapourminer pencilled in at 7am east coast time= EST sat morning 21st 2015 1)vapourminer 7am EST = 2am GMT ok so we need a fresh instance of cgminer? I need to quit it and fire up a new one so you can see the 24 hour high share and share count just for 24 hours only correct? ie not a cgminer instance thats been 48 hours running. I ask for clarification as Im having trouble on occasion starting my stick up at the higher clocks and once it fires its very stable so I was going to get a good speed and let it run for days with a 24 hour window in the oc contest. but if you need a fresh cgminer instance and a starting time slot Ill do the 7am to 7:30am EST on 21 nov (thats 2am gmt?). with screenshots with cryptoglances stats and a 24 hour only cgminer run at the start and finish times. whatever is easiest for you and the other contestants. after all this is for fun, not a rules laden headache..

[well staggered times are like speed trials for a car race.
these sticks can do 350 for 24 hours with no problem with cooling and power from a 2x usb source.
If you are the early starter. and you choose a 350 speed and get the 24 hours in other will set higher but may fail do to a crash and burn.
but remember you can still win second prize with best share. Even with a slow setting like 250 freq best share could be won.
Also your high share counts for the second prize even if you crash and burn.
I think making it a weekend 2 day slot for the staggered time is easy enough.
Hell I don't mind if you pick the time you want.
I just need to be sure the starting screen shot works along with a shot of crytoglance's stats.
I will do a pretend run right now for my stick (i am not going to enter contest)
sounds good to me. I will be running at my max stock speed on my setup and will run at that no matter what anyone else gets. half the fun will be seeing how people with insane speeds got to that with a stock stick.. luck of the draw? black magic? high octane electricity? Im at GMT-5 (eastern standard time USA). so basically a 24 hour run with any start time after midnight GMT on 21 November? and we need a screenshot of cgminer/bfgminer and cryptoglances stats page at the start and finish of that 24 hour run? can we start the run earlier? say I fire it up the night before, screenshot it at 7 AM local time on 21 November, then 24 hours later.. ie a more than 24 hour run as long as at least 24 hours of it is in that time frame. Ive noticed that sometimes the stick is hard to start at high clocks and once it fires at a particular speed it tends to just run.

the staggered time sounds good to me. i was dreading getting up at midnight or something to do screenshots. and if not me then someone else getting up at some weird hour considering how spread out geographically we are.
only issue might be the later starters would know what hash rate to beat.. someone early on fires up at 350 mhz others who start later know thats the speed to beat.
of course anyone truly competitive will run at speeds just this side of flames no matter what anyone elses speed is heh

Just got in to the world of Crypto currency , I know i am many years late here =[ . But I have always had an interest and I thought this could be a interesting new hobby for me . So I just ordered one these little babies now and I am looking forward on learning and having some banter on here with other chaps with common interests

welcome! we are petty informal here, any questions about the stick just ask. pretty much all the info you need is in this thread though. its a long read but well worth it. you picked a good 1st miner, these sticks allow a decent amount of tweaking (ie fun) plus learning the basics as far as efficiency, hash rate vs power, cooling etc. plus, they are pretty bullet proof. feel free to join in the sidehack stick pool club. I think there are still openings. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1243205

I've been testing 1 of these for the last 5 days, got it plugged into a USB 2.0 hub that's plugged into the RPi running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (for the Pi's), with 5 sticks at 325MHz. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B013OK10YM?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00In 5 days I've gotten 2 HW with A 9676736 and R 4544. EDIT: For a quick check, I just now plugged the Superbpag 7 Port Portable Multi USB Charger 70 Watt 14A with USB 3.0 Hub to the Pi, and it looks like it is working. So I'm going to let it run for 24 hours and see how it go's at 325MHz. nice find! Ive been putting off a hub because I want usb 3 + fairly high power that would work with compacs, portable usb 3 drives and compatible with rpi. now I have no excuse not to get one btw which rpi (sorry if you mentioned it previously)?

try this on the command line in the cgminer folder: cgminer -o stratum+tcp://solo.ckpool.org:3333 -u 1JiWuyX94wrCr7JhkAn7x5qNMCEef1KhqX.hedgy73stick -p x --compac-freq 150

depends on how many I had besides the 10,000. like 20 thousand - 10 thousand... meh

for the 1st contest, the "stock stick" run with only air cooling, can we replace the thermal compound?
same heatsink and air cooling 24 hour run without crashes if you want to use a different paste/compound I would think thats okay. What frequency are you attempting to run at? [...] I just mention because heat is not my problem at all. heat isnt a problem with mine either, its just sooner or later I replace all my thermal compound. I would just wait if thats a nono for the contest.

Contacts from PSU är made of Bronze, connected to the copper wirings, and then to Aluminium cables. so its kinda a nice mix up haha Grin.
look. you need to unplug this death trap NOW. aluminum and copper wiring DO NOT PLAY WELL TOGETHER.

you didnt say how many and what colors any blinky light things each design might have.
comon man dont leave us hanging.. toss us a bone!

You guys are talking about cooling a stick or two, right? just one.

*Edited as long quote
2700CFM at 0.33HP, my sun server does more air then that and at 110dBa :>
since my little hub got 30A at 5V directly from the PSU..
They actually say 1062 CFM in video. It could be wrong though it seemed a little dated on video. It is a interesting designed fan's. All I use are more traditional round ones. I am impressed with your hub. I would love to see how high a stick goes on that. how many fans? are they 80mm radial design? whats the static pressure? how many rpms? what temps are they in? is 110 db a or c-weighted <= a/c weighing makes a difference in perceived sound in human ears due to the shape of the ear canal. animals like cats/dogs hear much different) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A-weightingthese are 0.33 horse power i believe these are big and each one weighs 27lbs. I ran them around 2007 in construction. that have warnings not to move them while running and warnings to brace doors as they will close them with air presure and keep children and drapes away from them. gotta love it yup servers are LOUD and can move serious air indeed. 110db can hurt your ears long term ( i work at an ent medical practice with audiologists and run pro sound in a band ill grab a sound meter and check) I have some delta fans kickin around somewhere in the basement the video is from 2006 I think these are fairly quiet we ran them in residential houses. and we do have servers at work that need air conditioned environments. this one you can rent if needed
