4481  Other / Meta / Re: Why did moderator moved my topic to off-topic? on: April 27, 2023, 03:46:39 PM
Who said you off topic board is where trash posts belongs?
The board has the wrong image. I used to think the above is true because Off-topic has a lot of useless topics. I now report them as "insubstantial topic" when I stumble upon them, and usually they get locked. Based on the board's description, the board should be interesting to me. But it's not. I just checked 5 topics, and reported them all. The main problem is that experienced users gave up on the board, and Newbies use to to increase their post count.
4482  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Remove Proxyban (evil fees) - email to get whitelisted for free on: April 27, 2023, 01:48:05 PM
Hello, could someone whitelist my coworker ghost43 ?
With pleasure! He's whitelisted now.

Thanks for all you've done.
4483  Economy / Reputation / Re: [Spammer Blacklist] The Shitlist on: April 27, 2023, 01:38:45 PM
I just casually looked at tusandii post history, looks like a ton of useless spam.
This fits in Stake.com (SteveStake) is encouraging spam.
That topic was created 4 years ago, and it still continues.
4484  Other / Meta / Re: Opinion/Recommendation: Autosave of drafts on the forum on: April 27, 2023, 01:17:48 PM
What if you lose the draft before you have the chance to preview it?
I don't expect this autosave to be implemented any time soon, so: click Preview more often Wink Most of the time, after clicking Preview, even a browser restart doesn't remove the content. In case I keep the draft for a long time (sometimes months), I save the text locally. Once in a while I mess up one of my tabs and lose a draft, but if it's anything substantial, I make sure I used Preview so I can use the draft feature.
4485  Other / Meta / Re: Why did moderator moved my topic to off-topic? on: April 27, 2023, 01:10:51 PM
If you added this
Quote
for Bitcoin users
or there's a post in your thread that specifically teaches or instructs Bitcoin users it would not have moved in the off-topic
The Off-topic board is literally described that way:
Quote
Other topics that might be of interest to bitcoiners.
I'd say it belongs there, and not in Bitcoin Discussion which is described as:
Quote
General discussion about the Bitcoin ecosystem that doesn't fit better elsewhere. News, the Bitcoin community, innovations, the general environment, etc. Discussion of specific Bitcoin-related services usually belongs in other sections.
4486  Other / Meta / Re: Moving to Cloudflare on: April 27, 2023, 10:01:53 AM
if it comes to protecting your personal data, then no matter what hosting you use, you risk trusting it to a third party anyway.
Trusting 2 third parties is always worse for privacy than trusting just one.
4487  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [BPIP] Bitcointalk Public Information Project [Back in Action] on: April 26, 2023, 06:23:02 PM
I am checking a profile and just trying to make sure of something.
If it helps: LoyceV's seclog log.

Quote
Also is there a way where I can see full merit history of a profile?
There's loyce.club/Merit/history/175302.html.

We built a product that is light-years ahead of the competition from a technical point of view
After reading this, Betamax vs VHS came to mind. "Being the best" doesn't guarantee winning the market.
4490  Other / Off-topic / Re: 10,000th Post Special: 10 of my Favorite Bitcoin Forum Moments on: April 26, 2023, 03:27:51 PM
I don't know, but two years later and I'm once again at 10,000 posts!
It took me this long to find this hidden topic Cheesy
4491  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] bitcoindata.science on: April 26, 2023, 03:23:30 PM
If you leave the page open, the image will not update by itself. You need to reload the page/image, then the data will update.
That makes sense. Nobody would expect images posted on a forum to update without reloading the page.
4492  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [Apr 2023] Fees quite low! Use this opportunity to Consolidate your small inputs on: April 26, 2023, 03:21:38 PM
A bit curious what is happening in the mempool, right? I see like a large dumping of transactions but also most recent block taking a while to mine, resulting in 127k pending transactions. I guess it's not a good time to consolidate inputs.
Bitcoin went up 8% today, I guess that's the reason for more transactions. The Bitcoin Difficulty Estimator indeed confirms less blocks than expected are being mined.
4493  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Remove Proxyban (evil fees) - email to get whitelisted for free on: April 26, 2023, 12:25:34 PM
I've got another dude to be whitelisted... He's sent a mail across
Please, whitelist E Julius
Sorry, I won't whitelist this user. The previous user you vouched for turned out to be a generic shitposter. Those posts don't add anything to Bitcointalk.
4494  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] bitcoindata.science on: April 26, 2023, 12:07:27 PM
Yes, real time. However, there are no updates.
That's bad.

Quote
So, the image is always updated. There is no cache.
That's good Smiley Your first description was confusing.
4495  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [BPIP] Bitcointalk Public Information Project [Back in Action] on: April 26, 2023, 07:33:47 AM
I recently had someone suggest I'd only had 33 posts deleted
I've seen BPIP overlook deleted posts from modlog, so this counter could be too low.

Quote
both loyce and ninja's sites have my post counts hundreds of posts higher than what bpip says
BPIP only counts posts deleted by Mods, I scrape all posts including the ones you delete by yourself later on. Judging by my own data, I have deleted about 2000 of my own posts (mostly bumps).

Quote
The other two sites are much closer to the count, but probably don't include those posts of mine that were deleted in the first four or five years after registration.
Correct.
4496  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] bitcoindata.science on: April 26, 2023, 07:29:30 AM
Code:
https://bitcoindata.science/api/addressbalance.php?address=3CrySAp8G1PfvjrYT4HPQhE8MouBKWd9WB&currency=PHP
Not bad! I can think of some uses for this (although it's been a while since I created any topic that can use it).
Question: how does it work with updates: are they real-time? And if so: does the forum proxy not cache the old version?
4497  Economy / Reputation / Re: Discussion on buying/selling accounts/users actively seeking possible bought acc on: April 26, 2023, 07:20:25 AM
I don't think I've ever tagged someone for buying an account. I've seen a well-trusted account tagged years after buying it (which seemed more like a political attack than having anything to do with not being trusted), and I've seen a bought account that's now been on DT1/2 for a long time.
So as usual: "it depends"!

I tried to create some discussion about account sales 3 years ago: [click-bait] Should I start escrowing accounts?

Should users go out of their way looking for a connection on accounts that have 0 reputation?
My opinion: it's a waste of time.

Quote
Should all accounts be tagged that are guilty of or presumed bought?
No. If it's been long enough and the account made a reputation for themselves after the sale, I don't think a tag is going to do any good.

Quote
Is a neutral tag appropriate for accounts that are bought that have no reputation, or should accounts be ruined period?
The problem with a neutral tag is that someone else will add a negative tag. So whenever an account sale gets attention, it ends up being ruined.

Quote
As a community we should be always looking to protect the users of the forum
I really like eddie31's take on this:
Should never have put the temporary illusion of safety above personal liberty..
ie tagging and chasing away “likely scammers” and crushing the unique economic dynamic of account sales..

This forum started acting like protecting idiots is more important than letting users express their free wills..

How many countless good and intelligent users have been chased away because they “might” scam..
(click to read the full post)

Why does the forum need users who cannot grow on their own, but resort to such methods? A forum's account is history, it is status, it is reputation, it is knowledge, and all this should be assigned to only one user and should not be transferred somehow.
Agreed too Smiley

I think part of the answer to your stance here is geography. I sympathize with some cultures in the world because let's be honest, they can make more money here on the forum than they could with a real job in their area. So, they buy accounts so they can make money to feed their families.
By buying an account, they risk losing money when the account gets tagged, or in case the seller scams them directly. Either way, they risk having even less money to feed their families.

Why is buying of account necessary?
~
If you want to join a signature campaign, you need to build an account from brand new.
Buying an account is like lying on your resume.
4498  Economy / Reputation / Re: LoyceV vs theymos (and get your own Merit graph: up to 20 users per graph) on: April 26, 2023, 06:51:39 AM
He’s moving, but in a very different way from the vast majority of us. He usually has some merit showers, which translate into vertical walls on the graph. Usually those happen around April 1st, and on other relevant forum events.
Theymos has really mastered gaming the Merit system Cheesy
4499  Economy / Reputation / Re: LoyceV vs theymos (and get your own Merit graph: up to 20 users per graph) on: April 26, 2023, 06:40:26 AM
Ok, I hope it didn't create too much trouble for you.
No worries, I needed to update it eventually anyway.

I suggest you stop bringing fillippone to the party, he makes us all look bad.
How about adding theymos instead of fillippone? That should be a doable target in the long term. He's ahead, but he's not gaining:

4500  Economy / Reputation / Re: I doubt it - But is it too bad to ask you to review some of my posts? on: April 26, 2023, 06:25:51 AM
I have somehow lost a lot of merit income since I made my first 1000 merit.
First: I wouldn't call it "income". Merit varies over the months:
Quote
Merit received by _BlackStar (Trust list) from January 24, 2018 until April 21, 2023 (source)

Image loading from loyce.club...

In your case, a large share (>40%) of your Merit came from one user who reviewed your posts several times. I assume that was meant to help you rank up since you're not a shitposter, but if it stops, you lose quite a large share of your Merit "income".

I quickly checked your post history: You're posting a lot in Bitcoin Discussion. In general, the post quality is quite low there, and I'm not reading the board very often. If I don't read it, I can't Merit it.
