4481  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is KYC bad for crypto? on: March 29, 2020, 02:04:21 PM
I have to say that KYC is being implemented in ICOs in a very one sided manner. For example, a bounty hunter who may get $5 or $10 has to undergo the KYC process, while the promoters in many cases manages to avoid it. I am not saying that KYC helps to reduce the incidents of fraud in bounty projects, by removing multiple entries by the same person. But for that purpose, there are far better methods available.
4482  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk has been blocked in Russia because of Gambling advertisement on: March 29, 2020, 01:48:40 PM
While it should be illegal to avoid an ISP block you will be the effect on it if you are using not standard DNS servers.

Are you sure this is a block from the government? It seems very strange a block for a forum never eared about it.

This sounds strange to me too but TOR browser with minimum security settings applied without any VPN is enough to bypass the government restriction. If you don’t want to use TOR then you can opt only for a strong VPN which has privacy of users in mind.I use NordVPN and Hidemyass for these purposes.

VPN is not 100% safe. I don't know much about NordVPN and Hidemyass, but the authoritarian governments have targeted these VPN providers recently. Even TOR doesn't offer 100% protection, but unless you are involving in any illegal stuff, I don't think that you have to worry. But the main problem with TOR is that it is too slow. For live betting, it can be very difficult to use TOR.
4483  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The success of a project is not the responsibility of bounty hunters alone on: March 29, 2020, 01:15:41 PM
Bounty hunters can only help with the advertisement of the project. So their role in the ultimate success of any project is quite limited. If a project has to succeed, then they have to give special attention to the timely development and strict adherence to the timeline. I have seen a lot of very good projects failing upon their listing in an exchange, because the promoters lose their interest.
4484  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: March 29, 2020, 01:05:52 PM
Just wondering, would there still be female cheerleaders by the stands if we actually see a woman IPL. I mean if its women IPL, the cheerleaders could be male models. If women IPL gets going, i hope we can have more of women team sports in the country. It'd take us forward as a country in normalizing the female presence.

I don't know much about the cheerleaders for the women's matches. But I guess in the WBL, they have the women cheerleaders. That said, here in India perhaps cricket is the only sport in which there is a gender lag right now. There are well established women's leagues, in almost all the other sports. And that includes badminton, boxing, wrestling, tennis, football and hockey. I heard that even the Women's Kabaddi Challenge is doing quite well.
4485  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which crypto pair do you swap most often? on: March 29, 2020, 12:59:52 PM
Normally I don't swap much nowadays. Earlier, when I used to get bounty rewards (back in 2018), I used to convert my rewards to either BTC or ETH. But I am not participating in bounties for almost two years now. A few months back, I converted some of my BTC to BCH. Not a big fan of BCH, but at that point it looked as if BCH was in for a major pump. And a pump occurred just 2-3 months after I swapped.
4486  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: COVID-19 and its effect in Gambling World on: March 29, 2020, 12:50:26 PM
Sports betting has come to a complete halt now, because hardly any matches are going on due to the COVID 19 outbreak. I used to make bets in cricket, football and boxing, but for the last 2-3 weeks, almost all the matches have been either postponed or cancelled. And even worse, here in India the government has declared a 21-day lockdown and as a result we can't even get out of our houses now.
4487  Economy / Speculation / Re: COVID-19 Increased Bitcoin Adoption on: March 29, 2020, 12:42:31 PM
Well... if that is the case, then a basic question arises. In case the adoption has increased significantly, why the prices went down by 40% during the last two months? It should be the opposite scenario, right? I am not witnessing any large scale increase in adoption. During the last couple of months, there have been a total of zero news articles mentioning some large retailer or shop deciding to accept Bitcoin as a mode of payment.
4488  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk PSL T20 Pool and discussion. on: March 29, 2020, 12:14:02 PM
Currently best league is IPL and then we have BBL NatWest and CPL after these four we have PSL but one thing is sure this year was really great for PSL and in next two or three years this could be very big not like IPL but can go much better then current situation as peoples reaction was also very good and tv rights will also give some big boost in coming years.

In my opinion, the top 5 franchise T20 leagues are (in decreasing order):

1. IPL
2. BBL
3. Natwest T20 Blast
4. CPL
5. PSL

I can see PSL overtaking the CPL in the near future, but one advantage for the CPL is that it is quite popular in some of the foreign markets (such as India and United States). PSL had a wonderful year in 2020, but it has miles to go before it can offer meaningful competition for IPL or BBL.
4489  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 90% Of Project Bounties Are Scams on: March 27, 2020, 05:31:52 PM
I cannot blamed OP I also have a share of scam bounty and there are to many of them of them, I have not known of any bounty hunters who are not scammed by these scam bounties just glad that I'm out of it I still have a lot of tokens in my wallet that are all useless and only reminds me that bounty hunting is just a waste of time.

Same here. Even I have around 40 different tokens from various bounty campaigns, and out of them only 3-4 are worth more than $10. Others are completely worthless, or worth very small amounts. Now who will take the effort to register in little-known exchanges and then to go through the KYC process, in order to exchange this $10 worth of tokens to either Bitcoin or Ethereum?
4490  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Olympics 2020 Discussion Thread on: March 27, 2020, 05:01:20 PM
I can imagine the athletes will be very disappointed after training so hard to be ready for this time. They will just have to do it all over again for next summer.

The situation with football is worse because competitions that are 75% already completed need to be finished. I will be happy when this whole mess is over.

See the irony... almost the entire world is fighting for its very survival and some people are more concerned about sports. We had more than 2,300 new deaths from the COVID 19 epidemic today and probably by the end of the day the number will be close to 3,000. It's tragic that a lot of people are yet to realize the seriousness of the situation. Olympics will be held in 2021, once the situation is contained. There is no need to complain over it.
4491  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: IPL Mutual Pool Discussion. on: March 27, 2020, 04:50:26 PM
Star Sports purchased the IPL right at a rate of $510 million per year. I am not sure how much of it will be reimbursed by the insurers, but the BCCI is going to take a huge hit. Adding in the franchise fees and sponsorship, the total loss may exceed $1 billion. I am not sure about the insurance deductibles and limits, but I guess BCCI will have to bear at least 50% of the losses (someone please correct me in case I'm wrong).

BTW, you guys need to take a look at this:

https://www.insidesport.co/no-insurance-protection-against-coronavirus-to-ipl-stakeholders-insurance-expert/

Quote
The Indian Premier League stakeholders will have to bear any and all losses if the 2020 season is called off due to Coronavirus menace. The COVID-19 impact had been excluded from the insurance covers for the IPL Season 13.
4492  Economy / Economics / Re: India - Complete Country Lockdown - Is it on the Verge of Economic Crisis ? on: March 27, 2020, 04:42:35 PM
Lucky are the Indians they are only locked for 21 days. We're up for 3 months maybe extended to another 6 months. Only the Chinese are having a feast.

The situation is getting worse with every passing day. Even here in India, there is a lot of panic. The government and the authorities are doing all that they can, but the number of new cases is still on the increase. I won't be very surprised if the 3 weeks lockdown gets extended to 3 months. And with that, the jobs will be under threat and the economy will be in complete destruction.
4493  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: March 27, 2020, 04:34:20 PM
No major update has come from the BCCI today regarding the IPL. However, today there was a statement from Mithali Raj (India women's ODI captain), who asked the BCCI to consider starting a mini-WIPL (similar to the WBBL). I don't know why the BCCI has delayed the WIPL giving the silliest of the excuses. Sourav Ganguly was saying a few months ago that BCCI "would consider" holding the WIPL in 2023. For me, his statement sounded like deliberate delaying tactic.
4494  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gold quickly becoming more scarce. Which will be worth more, Bitcoin or Gold? on: March 27, 2020, 04:18:11 PM
Gold is becoming scarce, but if you check the charts then you can see that the mine production of gold is not declining. The amounts have remained remarkably stable over the years. The production in South Africa and some of the other nations have declined during the past decade or so. But that has been more than neutralized by the increase from Russia, Amazonian nations and even China.

In the near future, the scarcity of Bitcoin is going to increase at a faster level when compared to that of gold.
4495  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk has been blocked in Russia because of Gambling advertisement on: March 27, 2020, 04:07:43 PM
I have visited Russia and in every major city, in every nook and corner you can find illegal casinos. The ban on legal gambling is just one of the tools for the government to get bribes. Most of the illegal casino operators are foreigners (mostly Turks and Azeris) and they pay a certain amount of bribes to the authorities every month, so that they can operate without any harassment from the cops.
In Iran, Azerbaijan, and Turkey gambling is completely prohibited as far as i know,  these countries have been shuttling gambling tourism since a very long time, these people are going to gambling to former soviet countries and Russia, and they are spending money in these countries, gambling income is as important as tourism income.

No surprise there. When you ban something, the demand actually increases. Highest level of drug abuse can be found in those countries which have the strictest punishment for drug usage. Similarly, the worst gambling addiction can be found in those countries, where all forms of gambling are illegal. What happens is that the sector will be forced to go underground and then it will come under the control of various mafias.
4496  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin declined 3% as the coronavirus spread in italy on: March 27, 2020, 04:00:26 PM

https://cointelegraph.com/news/bitcoin-traditional-markets-drop-3-as-coronavirus-spreads-in-italy

As the coronavirus spread in Italy recently, bitcoin market has dropped 3% and also the traditional market including all the top ranked cryptocurrencies. Can coronavirus spreading be the cause?

Since the outbreak was confirmed a few months ago, the exchange rates have fallen by close to 40%. And this is comparable to the drop we had in similar markets such as equities. Even crude oil has lost more than 50% of its value. Until the situation is contained in major economies such as the United States and the European Union, we may not witness a recovery in the prices.
4497  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: March 27, 2020, 03:51:13 PM
Well, let's just stop worrying about the delay, and let's just hope that it actually takes place in some time in future. Sad
Or let's just hope that everything goes back to normal as soon as possible. We really do not want to keep going like this for the next one or two months or even three+ months. No one really knows which direction we are going in this pandemic situation.

The situation is getting worse with every passing day. We still have another 4 days to go in this month, and the total number of infected people have hit the 560,000 mark. For comparison, one month ago the figure was 86,604 (on February 29). That means that the infection rate has increased by more than 6 times. What if the situation continues next month, with another 6x rise in the infections? I am getting really skeptical about the situation.
4498  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Investing 1$ every day in bitcoin over the last five years on: March 27, 2020, 03:45:15 PM
It's not very surprising. If you are an early adopter and the asset in which you are investing in performs well, then you may get 100x or 1000x returns. Some of my friends, who were lucky enough to invest in Bitcoin in 2012, got almost 1,000x returns from their investment. The same goes for a lot of assets, such as the IPOs of Microsoft, Yahoo, Dell, IBM.etc. And the same is true even for the Ethereum ICO.
4499  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: IPL Mutual Pool Discussion. on: March 26, 2020, 04:31:02 PM
^^^^ If they goes ahead with a mini-IPL , then it is going to be a historic blunder. First of all, many of the international players won't be available. And adding to that, the revenue will be much less than what they are expecting, since the duration will be curtailed. And additionally, any mini-IPL this year can have a negative impact on the revenues for next year (for IPL 2021). It's not rocket science. All Sourav Ganguly has to do, is to call a press conference and inform that the IPL for this year is cancelled. They need to reimburse the sponsors, franchises and the players. But given how vast their reserves are, I don't think that it is going to be a problem for the BCCI.
4500  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin's price, and mental health. on: March 26, 2020, 04:26:39 PM
Ideally long-term holders should not worry about the price too much. I consider myself a long-term holder, but I can't resist from checking the prices every now and then. My conservative estimate is that in a typical day I check the Bitcoin prices at least 20 to 30 times (either in my laptop, or in my smartphone). And with everyone working from home now, staying away from this habit has become even more difficult.
