4501  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: November 05, 2015, 09:40:20 PM
Why are these so expensive?

There is only one competitor on the market currently. I think the prices are right in line to be honest... it would always be nice to get them cheaper but I don't think there are any market forces that would push the mfg to get the price down at this point.

So, less hashrate, less efficiency, need to provide your own controller, AND more expensive than the other competitor?  Who's lining up to buy these?

I wouldn't count the cost of the Pi in there. It can be resold and should be suitable for all current and future Avalon miners you stock. Like a PSU, its not consumed or proprietary, unlike an SP20 or S7 control board.

Also being able to go to a computer store or amazon one and have it next day or 2-3 days even is a huge bonus.  A lot use custom controllers and its a huge pain to get a replacement quick, and you have down gear waiting on a cheap part.

With the RPI you can replace it very easy.  And easy to back up the image which is great aswell.
4502  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BITMAIN AntRouter R1: 1st wireless networking device with bitcoin mining chip on: November 05, 2015, 09:37:27 PM

Also reminds me has anyone had an R1 from ITop as I have had one on order from them for quite some time now?

Rich

Nope, not heard anything either.
They've been taken of the product list on the Bitmain site...

Yes it's very strage, you get the impression that not many were made in the first batch and no sign of a follow on. Had a mail from ITop on the 27th Oct to say no news from Bitmain.

Rich

The R1 is currently out so makes me wonder if they did not order in batch 1 and assumed they would have another batch soon to order in.   One would have guessed they would have had a batch by now.. so they could have gambled there guessing they would buy a batch 2 by now... I'm not sure.

They seem to do a lot of being first to show miners and info.  It would also not suprise me if companies did not like working with them.  Like how they leaked Avalon 6 I can't imagine Avalon was happy.

But again all speculation I'm not sure on any of it.
4503  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER U3 Discussion and Support Thread on: November 05, 2015, 09:31:02 PM
This zombie issue killed the U3... :S...

With crazy guy's custom firmware I have not touched my U3's in 3 days.  It seems he realy did fix them via his coding on R1 custom firmware.  Which is pretty awsome.

I have checked pool side and it's had a constant of all 3 of my U3's mining.   If you own a U3 its honestly worth getting a R1 from him to not unplug/replug multiple times a day.
4504  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Will it still be profitable to mine Bitcoin in the future? on: November 05, 2015, 09:27:00 PM
I mean for an individual. With the increasing difficulty and halving it gets harder and harder for an individual to make a profit from mining.
What do you think about this?

With power increasing and new bitcoin mining farms opening , mining become harder more and more , so for an individual it won't be very profitable unless he have pretty cheap electricity if not free ... (that's for now) , on the Future it will probably won't be profitable at all (Correct me if I gave any wrong information's which I don't think I did) .

Nobody knows what the future will hold.  Once the reward for finding a block is cut in half to 12.5, are all those megafarms going to be able to justify their costs to keep mining blocks?  Will a large amount of home miners fall out?  Nobody really knows.  Us home miners right now are gambling a lot hoping that we'll still be viable at the halvening.

Another thing to consider...will the price of bitcoin keep rising?  The higher the price, the more lucrative it is to keep miners on, even when block rewards are cut in half.

So in summary...Nobody can answer with 100% accuracy.  Some people like blackjack or poker, some of us like bitcoin mining.

Home/Hobby miners we will see It's unsure.  But a lot of the big farms likely will remain profitable as they have so cheap of electricity.

I suspect most of the mega farms pay a few cents.  They just have electricity costs that little guys can't beat.   So chances are they will remain profitable at having I think at least.  It's home/hobby I wonder what will happen to us.
4505  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread oct 29th to Nov 12th picks are closed!! With a bonus reward. on: November 05, 2015, 09:24:56 PM
It's back over $400 again and rising.  I really think (hope) that 400 is the new floor.  We should see some significant network growth if that is the case, but not just attributed to price - cooler north hemisphere temps are certainly contributing to the increase in network hash.

We just need a steady slow rise now.  To go from 230 to 400 as floor is pretty nice.   I think the slow rise will help build some walls.

When we hit 500 so many auto-sales, and people  selling just was not enough buy walls to support it.  It's still a great increase overall though.
4506  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is mining dead ? on: November 05, 2015, 09:22:53 PM
At some point gear is obsolete though.  Look at like BFL minrig... that thing even "free" I would be surprised if many are still running.   One day A1's have to hit a obsolete point even at cheap electricity.

So far I think there are a ton in china running at cheap electricity.  But the recent price raise for sure put more life into A1's.

Yes! I think A1's now has a purpose to play in mining and I think bitcoin will still increase up to Nov. 5 I wish, hehe it is good to mine this time stock more and more bitcoin in the coming halving and wish it will increase Grin

This increase no doubt kept the A1's mining.  With cheap electricity gear stay's on the network a long time.  And in china I think there are sizable amounts of A1's still mining away in some data centers.

Having it's hard to say what will happen.  I'm just happy for how its doing now

As long as the energy is cheap (or even free somethimes), it is even profitable to keep those miners running. Especially now the value of the BTC is increasing and increasing.

Remind that mining with A1's for some people might not seem to be profitable nowadays (due to electricity costs), but if the value of BTC keeps increasing, it might turn out that mining nowadays was profitable though. (Yes, they could also spent the money directly on BTC instead of electricity in this case).

The thing is mining equipment loses value so darn quick I don't like sitting on equipment Im at a loss.  I sold all my A1's and bought more efficient gear.

It is possible more people are profitable now. As a general rule thought I would not unplug a miner and just let it sit there.  I would sell it.
4507  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BITMAIN AntRouter R1: 1st wireless networking device with bitcoin mining chip on: November 05, 2015, 05:49:53 PM
So R1's Online now showing 176, so still very low numbers, and noone has mined a Block yet.  Smiley

I have had mine running most of the time for 17 Days now, Overclocked to 15GH and it has been very stable. Still an occasional restart of cgminer and a couple of times the hash rate has dropped right back for no reason which the Cron Job does not detect, however a Save & Apply on the Frequency Setting Tab get's it going again.

Getting a bit bored with it now, so need to think of something new to try? How is everyone else getting on?

Rich

Im surprised how low it is on there.  Only thing is maybe a lot are using CK's solo pool with modding the pool.

What is next is using it as a U3 controller.  That is the best thing so far.  Also gives U3's a antminer like gui which is nice.
4508  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: issue with DUB-H7 ? on: November 05, 2015, 05:46:07 PM
so you are asking for the hub to run 2 sticks and a rasp pi?

and you wonder why a 3amp hub fails
but a 2.5 amp hub succeded?

the rasp pi is a picky piece of gear it likes usb2 more then usb3  and it does not like all usb2 hubs.

the belkin is a usb 2

read amazon negative reviews on your dlink

http://www.amazon.com/product-reviews/B0000B0DL7/ref=cm_cr_pr_hist_1?ie=UTF8&filterBy=addOneStar&showViewpoints=0&reviewerType=all_reviews&formatType=all_formats&filterByStar=one_star&pageNumber=1

The hub doesn't run the Raspberry Pi...(I didn't get what you mean, my apologies) , the RPI runs on it's own power supply and the HUB has its own too.

This hub is recommended here specifically and it is a USB2 hub (I did some research before, I'm not a complete newbie although I can be distracted Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy )

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=253749.0
(although this is for BE, not the GekkoScience Compac BM1384 Stickminer, but it is on the RPI)

All (well most) review from this year are positive.
The bad reviews are really old.... so they may have been some change in design. (and on top of that, my trust of internet Amazon's reviews is very low...)

Depending on how the hub is set up some do backfeed and turn the RPI on though powered usb.  The RPI can be a little picky even on usb 2.

Usb 3 you can count on not working.  Usb 2 is not guaranteed to work with RPI.  If you google you will see some still have problems with RPI.
4509  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: how can i earn with bitcoin please? on: November 05, 2015, 05:40:31 PM
How about providing services, I will also be providing services like creating banners and logos for a cheaper price. if I have some green trust ratings will it help me to have more activities maybe get me to become a hero at short period of time?
Nope. Trust rating does not affect activity change. Activity change is still fixed at 2 weeks no matter who you are. Trust ratings might change the impression in your customers but using escrow can also increase the customer's trust in you. IMO, its great to provide a service to earn money.

It's meant to take a while to get to those higher ranks.  There is no way to speed it up.   You just need to make sure you post every period and don't miss one.

Hero is meant to be slow.  And I'm waiting on legendary it's even harder since there is a range and no exact activity level.  It's kinda fun though not knowing when it will happen.
4510  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER U3 Discussion and Support Thread on: November 05, 2015, 05:19:55 PM
I have 3 U3.

All of them have a solid red LED beside the USB port.

2 of them have a solid red LED beside the flashing red LED (the one indicating hashing)
the 3rd one didn't have this LED on for several month although it was hashing correctly.

And now (about 1h ago) it has decided to turn itself ON.

Note that this particular U3 had never suffered from the zombie syndrom... let's hope this doesn't start Cheesy Cheesy

That sounds like a zombie.  Sometimes they recover via software but not always when I was using windows.

I am on day 3 without touching U3's with the R1 and crazy guy's firmware.  It's working great.
4511  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: rumors of 3.5Th antminer S7 "lite" on: November 05, 2015, 10:12:56 AM
Mr. Lees info was right on leak:

https://bitmaintech.com/productDetail.htm?pid=00020151105082702881F8f0B9I405FF

Price:       4 BTC
               ( 1481.32 USD )

1. Hash Rate: 4.05 TH/s

2. Power Consumption: 1042 W + 10% (at the wall, with APW3, 93% efficiency, 25C ambient temp)

3. Power Efficiency: 0.25 J/GH + 10% (at the wall, with APW3, 93% efficiency, 25°C ambient temp)

Yes I guess this is what we have been waiting for, although not quite what was expected.  Smiley

Looks like it's still 3 Boards but with a reduced chip count / Board. I think they have made a mistake and it will not be 145 Chips but 144.

Which means that each board reduces from 18 Tripple Nodes to 16 Tripple Nodes. Also the voltage range is now a more sensible 11.6V to 13.0V rather than the very tight must not be less than 12V.

Rich

Im not to impressed to be honest.  I was hoping to see 2 blade version.  To go down in speed... and keep 3 hashing boards just is a pain.

I dont think its the "lite" I was hoping they did.  With this I would have rather them it the same on higher speed.
4512  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: November 05, 2015, 10:04:30 AM
They are selling it at a FIXED btc price of 4 btc.  So I would say they did not like today selling for USD amounts when jumping around.

I'm personally not a plan of the fixed rate.  Takes some of the skill/speculation out of it.
4513  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [SIDEHACK STICK] Official sales thread for everywhere not already covered on: November 05, 2015, 10:00:52 AM
So I realized I haven't updated the second-round queue. I've got a bushel of sticks placed and baked, and will be spending time over the next several days on finishing touches. I don't expect pod prototype stuff to come in until middle of next week, but I will have to take a day or two in the next week to work on hosting infrastructure expansions. I should have the entire queue caught up pretty soon though.

Thanks for the update.  You have quite the amount of projects going Smiley which is good.

I'm excited were getting close.  I've had a ton of fun with the compacs and playing with them.  My next plan is to make a modded usb hub and go even higher should be fun.

Batch 4 and 5 are sold out.

For Sale is
ANTMINER S7 BATCH 6

AntMiner S7 BATCH 6 with 4.05th/s is available to order. Shipping may start between Dec. 7 ~ Dec. 17 (if shipped out 5 days later than it, it won't be considered as delay ).

Chip quantity per unit: 145x BM1385
Rated Voltage: 11.60 ~ 13.00V
Dimensions: 301mm(L)*123mm(W)*155mm(H)

Interesting decision on their part... looks like still has 3 blades.  So were talking 9 PCIe + 1 controller.... for even less hash.  I was hoping to see a dual blade with this rumored version.

I'm guessing quality control was not working they kept having to check if each  hashboard ran at higher freq.  So I'm guessing they lowered it all and now they don't have to do as much quality control, and not having to sell higher and lower freq version.
4516  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Suggestions of the best way to earn bitcoin through refferals on: November 05, 2015, 09:06:09 AM
are you fixed on bitcoin? BitShares launched their referral program too,  (Hidden referral inside bitshares.org/technology/referral-rewards-program/?r=removed) it out[/url]

how to use it: http://blog.smartcoin.pw/2015/10/bitshares-how-to-earn-money-with.html

You have to do a referral link and non referral link.  To just have referral link is frowned upon.

To hide it ... is even more frowned upon.  This shows how cutthroat the refferral game is.  OP asks about getting referrals and others use it to try to gain them self referrals.
4517  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Cloud Mining - Please help a newbie on: November 05, 2015, 09:02:12 AM
A better investment would be to purchase your own miner, unless you have a really high lighting bill.
its also huge risk like renting cloud mining
delivery could be so posponed you will never make any profit, instead only loss :/

I am living proof, invested 1 BTC, got 0.02 BTC

What site did you invest on?  That is a important thing in the equation here.

There are a lot it's true you should not trust.
4518  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is mining the best way to make btc? on: November 05, 2015, 08:56:47 AM
I am a newbi here and want make btc faster so how mining is the best way to make btc plzzz explain in detail.

I suggest doing some serious research.  For us to say best or not way.... really it should be you deciding based on your criteria on investment.

You are losing a lot of good experience by not doing some reading.  I highly suggest to look at some of the topics already out there.  You can read about mining ROI, Heat, Noise, the list goes on.

You can't really fit mining all in one thread.
4519  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Dragon 1TH blade directly to RPi on: November 05, 2015, 06:14:17 AM
A guy @ work gave us his old Dragon Miner 1Th.  It was not working and he did not want to mess with it after going thru several ps.

I was finally able to find a working image for the rpi and got 2 of the blades running.  Actually, we can only get 2 blades @ a time running.  On 3 blades it crashes.

So, need to find another controller card or does anyone know how to wire a blade directly to the RPi??

I don't think you will be able to go directly to the RPI.  From memory there was at least one board they connect to before going to RPI inside on the A2's.

What PSU does it have in it now?   Have you tried another PSU that can do around 1100 watt.    I think that would be my first try, or if you don't have another one so big you can try to switch cables and run of the ones that are not running.

It is possible for A2 blades to go bad aswell.  They ran very hot and some were ran in hard conditions.  So there is no guarantee you will get more working.
4520  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Free electricity bills for me on: November 05, 2015, 06:08:29 AM
So for example with a s2 equipment how many bitcoins i can get mining per month..? I know there is a lot of factors, like choosing the right pool and depending on the difficulty of the mathematical problems to resolve. But an approximate?

Half bitcoin per month i could get?

I suggest doing ROI math on a site such as: https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/calculator

With it you can enter your stat's a speculation on difficulty, and come out with a number.  It should help you a lot.
