4501  Economy / Exchanges / Re: MtGox withdrawal delays [Gathering] on: February 09, 2014, 10:33:11 AM
"the system needs to be in static state" to fix the technical problems they are having... So why income transfers are still working? Aren't deposits on the same system as withdrawals?

their problem is, that when withdrawing their system assigns one input to multiple outputs, thus doublespending. If they receive incoming transfers, that problem does obviously not occur.
4502  Economy / Exchanges / Re: MtGox withdrawal delays [Gathering] on: February 08, 2014, 03:52:41 PM
I did it yesterday several times, all worked.

can someone confirm that this is still working today?
4503  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MAX] MaxCoin - Alive and Kickin' on: February 08, 2014, 02:02:11 PM
fuckin shitcoin i will never buy a single one
This coin is a total failure:

  • developers never heard about testnet, and launched coin in real net
  • released untested binaries, that simply don't run, because developers haven't ever heard about static linking
  • they don't know how to make releases using github release system, and just push zipped binaries
  • they don't know how to prepare source code for compilation, and then push unprepared code to repository (figuring out how to compile that code took me about 15-30 minutes, and I'm one of those "skilled nerds")
  • think about all other people who wanted to participate in launch, and don't know how to compile code
  • official pool "max.rocketpool.co.uk" is stealing maxcoins http://www.reddit.com/r/maxcoinproject/comments/1xcfu2/maxrocketpoolcouk_are_currently_thieves/
  • the only pool that really worked (for me at least) was max.1gh.com until it was DDoSed to oblivion, and official twitter response: https://twitter.com/maxcoinproject/status/431571916764483585  - that it is a scam. You call that a good communitation between developers upon launch??
  • how hard would it be for maxcoin to reach out for people who wish to cooperate before launch. But no - it is better to find out live, who is interested in creating pools.
  • majority of miners are botnet owners right now, I don't want to see the crash when they decide to cash out. I will not be here anyway.

I'm out. If I ever see any article about maxcoin in any major outlet, my response will be exactly what they deserved.

You can quote this whole post on every new page in this thread, and give an address. I will send you 1 MAX to first person on every new page that quotes this. But what's the point, these MAX are worthless anyway. I have about 50 MAX to spend on that.

EDIT: I don't attribute to malice that which can be equally well explained by stupidity. But effect is the same: maxcoin is a failure due to incompetence, not due to malice.

Maxcoin killed all the coins  Tongue

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=438150.0

Maxcoin might well kill Max Keiser if the amount of butthurt on the above thread is anything to go by.
Go read it, then come back here and appreciate how bloody good NXT is.

Can you believe people are actually paying $14 already for MAX?!?!?     Huh

Not saying it can't go higher... but the dump which will soon come will be EPIC!!!    Wink

4508  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: February 07, 2014, 09:09:56 AM
Tonight I was thinking again about the fees. We should not change the fees already, it's not wise.

In this early fase of Nxt I hear nobody complaining about the high fees, mostly because not a lot of payments are done.

But I DO hear a lot of complaining about the joke of forging. In the early fase of a cryptocoin, the miners/investors are the most important people, they make a coins succesfull (look at Dogecoin). To get a lot of attention, we need to attract the miners and investors first!

Later when it gets more populair you can lower the fees!
Bump

I change my vote to keep it at 1NXT.

+1000000

So basically your arguments are:
- Not enough NXT to be forged because the fee is to low?
- NXT forging is assumed to be a joke because of low NXT per block?

How about increasing the NXT transactions and as an effect also increasing the people using it? Well, that won't happen with such a ludacrist fee...
4509  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: February 07, 2014, 08:48:18 AM
The reason why there are so little NXT transactions are because they are way to expensive. If i want to send the lowest amount possible to a friend, so he can send it back and test his setup, it costs mit 2 NXT total. (send 3 to him, 2 come to him and he sends the 2 back) That are 12-15 cents.

Our network wants to tell everyone that we can handle big traffic with little cost, but the way i see it, with the fee staying that high, not many transactions will occur.

Or look at faucets. Many people want to enter a currency for free at start to test it out. Now we can get 3 NXT from a faucet. that is 1 transaction .... Rly??
I think currencies like Doge are so successful because the fee is ridiculous low, its 0.01 Doge, that is like a 10.000th of NXT..

I predict a more than 10 fold in transactions if the fee drops to 0.1 NXT and the fractional NXTs get enabled.  Also even if it does not increase by tenfold, then then widespread of the currency makes up for it.

FEE 0.1!!!!  NAOWW

Hey, nice website!

But i won't use any new exchanges until they have proven to be trustworthy. A 0 post user is not the best start to go Wink

Hey guys.

I am currently on holiday from university. I decided to get into the programming thing.

Currently my knowledge of the IT world is limited to HTML/CSS but i am eager to get started on the more complicated stuff that is needed to be productive.

What language do you guys suggest to start learing when my goal is to write small programms or a website like just-dice.com but for NXT?

If we want to let NXT take off, then we NEED to lower fees. Micropayments are the way to try new currencies.

I am hesistent to send many Messages or send NXT around for fun because i dont want to spend 1 NXT to send 10 NXT...

0.1NXT and Fractional NXT!!!!!!

Why not focus on DE rather than this 1000(or 100) TPS?

Do you need that much horsepower (100TPS or more) when you have a Distributed Exchange?

To me DE seems much more attractive.

(note: talking from a layman's perspective)

The true layman is going to first come in contact with NXT at Crypsy.    Only an already-sold NXT enthusiast is going to have a NXT client that supports Distributed Exchange.

Again I say, our second highest bounty and our second highest team identification effort (after blockchain) should be a hand-in-hand approach to work with Cryptsy IT folks on a data/software bridge to get NXT on Cryptsy NOW!

You have a point.

A month ago I came upon the answer that the problem was the API.

Why does only Cryptsy have a problem with this? And not Bter, Dgex, Nxtchg.com and others?

I thought our team spoke to the Cryptsy team in Miami and then we have sended an email to them. But it's true that we don't see any developments about this.

if i remember correctly they want a client first and the re-evaluate.

Seems to me like Cryptsy is making excuses. Why a client?

They've been adding every altcoin possible, but they won't touch NXT.

(assuming that API isn't the problem - but other exchanges didn't have an API issue)

so again it brings me to think Cryptsy doesn't add NXT because of their own agenda.

it is because it is not in C.
Every coin they have is with Bitcoin code.

In the german speaking part of the world we have a saying for this kind of thing you want (1000 TPS + turning + xxxGB on smarthphone + sick internet) http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eierlegende_Wollmilchsau it basically is a saying and means:  Egg-laying-cotton-giving-milk and meat-giving-pig

You are from Germany?
