interesting about zadig and cgminer.. Ive installed zadig for usb  miners with absolutely no problems on win7 starter with a very under powered intel atom CPU netbook, a notebook with a i5 M450  and win10 (for the lulz and specifically to test with compacs on win10), win7 64bit professional (i5 3570k),  vista32 ultimate (intel E7500) and  XP (cant remember CPU; it was last year).

mayhaps Im just lucky with zadig and cgminer..

EDITs:  stock cgminer with the win7s and XP with miners and the-crap-company-I-shall-not-name, cgminer-gekko on vista/win10 with compacs

never tried Luke-Jrs BFGMiner, cks cgminer seems way more easy with cgminer/zadig

and novac, thanks for the windows cgminer build and of course sidehack thanks for the compac, they rock.

consider giving sidehack and novak  burger donations.. sure sidehack sells compacs  for money but they did the work on it for burgers

BTW if anyone has not donated BTC to ck and kano for cgminer, please donate to them also,  lot of work went into that code

This one looks like a company took the Orico I just linked and did a bit of work on beefing it up:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JEVRXQA

Maybe I'll go for this one instead.  I only have 4 compacs, so I think it's adequate for those OC'd a little, plus a fan.

this is in the listed features:

Code:
Built-in surge protector; over-current and instant current protection
- Protects connected devices and hub. Supports hot-swap, plug-and-play, easy to use.

maybe the overcurrent protection is on the ports (not the power supply itself) and would limit the compaq power draw?

All you lucky buggers getting your sticks! Cheesy Can't wait until mine arrive!!!

yup.

they definitely are the most fun stick miner yet.
4544  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: September 18, 2015, 01:07:47 AM
I have to ask, I have really bad tinnitus (ringing in the ears) from doing time over in the sandpit... is it me or do these compaq's sometimes have a high pitch coming out of them?
The only times I've had any sound happen was when clocked high and getting a voltage drop on input power that the regulator on the board wasn't happy with, causing there to be a bit of coil singing in the inductor.  That would only occur during (attempts at) initialization, though, so a relatively short 'beep' and not all that high in pitch (but tone did vary a bit).  Example video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zxcYBbIvZEg

interesting, I have tinnitus also but anyway the 2 compacs I have dont sing (highest clock is 175 on stock USB 2 ports in my HTPC, Ill go higher on a modded hub later). but my GTX285s I ran for folding@home had bad coil whine. a somewhat common fix was to put nail polish or something similar all around the coils, which I did to two of them, and it did fix the singing. they ran overclocked for about a year 24/7 like that, and are still runnig today in my game rig.

not that I am recommending that with the compac, and Im sure sidehack is cringing reading this (I am prepared to be chewed out BTW). the compaq inductors are not the same as in the GTX285s and Im sure run in a different power profile.

some PSUs have coil whine too but I never had one do it. Seasonic, PC Power and Cooling and Antecs here but Im wanting one of sidehacks PSU/breakout boards eventually.
4545  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: September 17, 2015, 10:53:11 AM
I wouldn't recommend Windows 10 for anything mining-related, or anything where any kind of privacy or security is required. Windows 10 is basically a GUI wrapped around malware. No offense to Win10 users but I don't think either Novak or I have any interest in putting together a Win10 box to test anything, and certainly not anything that requires a network connection.

heh yup.. but you can disable most, but not all, of the tattletale stuff.

just for the lulz I installed win10 (I have a full disc image backup of win7 to go back) on my HP DM4 notebook.. i5 M450, 4 gigs RAM, intel X25M G2 80 gig SSD

installed novaks cgminer build, zadig and copied zlib1.dll to the cgminer folder. plugged the compac directly into a USB 2 port on it.

ran zadig  (select List All Devices under Options), zadig found this:
COMPAC BM1384 BITCOIN MINER
USB ID 10C4 EA60

installed the zadig 6.1.7600.1685 driver over it. rebooted. ran cgminer --compac-freq 160

fired right up at 160 Mhz on the notebook , and thats stock USB power with the original voltage pot setting. Smiley
4546  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Sidehack stick solo pool club on: September 16, 2015, 10:32:46 AM
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Windows 8.1 system, ONE miner directly into a laptop USB, I've tried every version of mining program and .bat file I can think of, and read Novak's GekkoScience Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread repeatedly to no avail.

not all laptop USB ports can put out the full 500 ma (2.5 watts) that the USB 2 spec calls for.

have you tried them in a desktop or (standard run of the mill) powered USB 2 hub?

this may not be an issue now but cgminer used to have problems with some USB 3 ports with some miners, if your laptop has both USB 2 and 3 try a USB 2 port.
4547  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: September 15, 2015, 10:29:37 PM
I'm using the Gekko build of cgminer.  I used Zadig on a Win7 machine to install the correct drive.  When I start the bat file, I get a "No valid hashes for over 10 secs, attempting to restart"  then I get a  "LIBUSB_SUCCESS" but there is no hash going on.  I've tried 2 different machines and am getting the same error.

bat file code:

cgminer -o stratum+tcp://solo.ckpool.org:3333  -u 1JiWuyX94wrCr7JhkAn7x5qNMCEef1KhqX.Chris_Sabianstick --compac-freq 150

when I messed around with my sticks the only time I got that (libusb_success and 0 hashes) was when the voltage was too low for the frequency. tweaked the voltage pot a bit and it would fire up.

novak build on win32

4549  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Sidehack stick solo pool club on: September 12, 2015, 11:06:38 PM

Thanks, that was one of the first things I tried, figure it would be easy, LOL. Even done lot's of edits to where the only thing left was "compc-freq" :150.

youre most welcome.

that .conf I posted has had stuff in there since, well, forever ago. since cgminer is so stable I just tended to modify the conf here and there and then ignore it for months. if I didnt modify something, I just left it for the most part even if I thought it wasnt needed. I think I cleaned most of the GPU stuff out a while back though.

been about a year since I mined with anything but a blockerupter. gonna have to go through the cgminer README again and see whats what.

hopefully youll get it sorted out soon.
4550  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Sidehack stick solo pool club on: September 12, 2015, 08:03:54 PM
cgminer-gekko won't write a cgminer.conf file (comes out blank), so been trying to do a script to start it and add 5 pools in balanced, so it would point 1 stick here and 4 at another. But so far, all I can do is get it to start with all 5 pointed here, then I have to type to add the others.

It's still a work in progress, LOL

use a conf file generated by a stock cgminer and modify it, or just make one from scratch.

at least novaks build is fine using my old stock cgminer conf files I had previously used. only thing I changed in the conf file was adding another pool and worker to point to the solo club address, then adding --balance and --compac-freq 170 to the command line in the .bat file I use.

EDIT here is my conf file (for windows).. I have no idea if the stuff below the API stuff is still used some of the stuff probably dates back to GPU days.

Code:
{
"pools" : [
        {
                "url" : "stratum+tcp://solo.ckpool.org:3333",
                "user" : "1JiWuyX94wrCr7JhkAn7x5qNMCEef1KhqX.vapourminerstick",

                "user" : "my-ck-solo-only-addy-here",
                "pass" : "pw"
        }
],
"api-listen" : true,
"api-port" : "4029",
"api-allow" : "W:127.0.0.1,W:192.168.0/24",

4551  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: September 12, 2015, 10:46:43 AM
not sure if this is just my setup or not.

HTPC with vista32 ultimate that previously ran cgminer with various hardware.

when I ran novaks build of cgminer, it initially complained that zlib1.dll was missing. copied zlib1.dll out of an old cgminer to the novak cgminer folder and it then fired up.

normally cgminer comes with that file.
4552  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Sidehack stick solo pool club on: September 11, 2015, 11:23:06 PM
ok, I should be there..

relevant part of my conf file:

Code:
"url" : "stratum+tcp://solo.ckpool.org:3333",
                "user" : "1JiWuyX94wrCr7JhkAn7x5qNMCEef1KhqX.vapourminerstick",
                "pass" : "pw"

both sticks there at the moment, 125 Mhz each.. about 6.5 gh/s each, sticks at 45 C with no fans and 71 F ambient.

much tweaking to do.. will have more time tomorrow
4553  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Sidehack stick solo pool club on: September 11, 2015, 10:22:34 PM
my 2 sticks are in!

just plugged them into my HTPC that has an existing cgminer setup (I put novaks build in the cgminer folder, used existing .conf file).. both running stock @ 125 Mhz at cks pool right now and Ill leave em there overnight.

will set one up here tomorrow (Saturday) when I can mess with them more.

a whole house protector and proper ground of the mains usually works.

ditto. square d whole house suppressor.

have the electric co check the ground.
4556  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience BM1384 Project Development Discussion on: August 28, 2015, 10:37:42 AM
We figured that was better than trying to shoehorn a new design into an existing pod with a specific heatsink shape. Rather than persisting in using the same proprietary chunk of metal, wouldn't it be better to make something that fits an existing fairly generic standard? The end result won't be as polished as a Gridseed or U3, but I'm not sure I'm really concerned about that.

I like it a lot as I have several coolers just collecting dust in my parts bin from upgrade cycles. most hardware addicts probably have the same.
4557  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: I am floating an idea here a sidehack usb stick solo pool. on: August 27, 2015, 04:13:20 AM
Well, one option is everyone gets one miner (unless we don't get 100 players), and we let it run until we hit a block. We can pick a minimum speed, near the max but not overwhelming, to add a lil' juice. Higher is, of course, welcome. Assuming that it isn't a major production to do so, of course.

As people drop out for whatever reason, gamers (heh) could add to their stock, or we can invite other people to throw one in.

To keep it simpler, if your miner is in the pool and the pool hits, you get 0.24. No matter if you just started yesterday, or you've been in from day one. If you drop from the pool, you're out. No payout.

This idea adds a bit of fun (For Duty and Humanity!) teamwork. And possibly a nice lil' reward.
I like that we could do 2 proxies the 30 day  and the lifetime well long term maybe not lifetime.  that may be the best idea

Right, and by "lifetime" I meant until it makes zero sense, or until enough people drop that there's no real point.

It is a great idea, thank you.

cool.

I have two coming. Ill run one at the 30 day, and probably one at the "lifetime." after the 30 day pool is done Ill take that one and perform absolutely cruel and stupid experiments on it..  I love destructive testing it has vapourminer written all over it Smiley

yup MX4

used it on all my folding@home GPU/CPU rigs as well as *cough* my bfl *cough* stuff. as well as my regular daily driver PCs.

the ICD diamond stuff has better heat transfer but is a major PITA to apply. MX4 is very easy to apply, non conductive/non capacitive, no break in period and works great.. much better than the artic silver people still love to use.
