Damn this merit system has made so hard to rank up. I feel like I won't reach senior member status in this lifetime. Have some mercy.
No, it's possible.
Just like you, I thought it was impossible to rank up or need a long time.
this topic was my start point and now I need about a week to get the required merits(less than 30 days after activity rank up)

Well done for getting so close. QA gave me a nice boost at the start as well. I wasn't actually bothered about ranking up before, but now I just want to do it to prove to people it is possible. I should be there in a week or two as well.
4562  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestion: Merit Phase 2 - Drain the Swamp (@theymos) on: March 18, 2018, 06:42:43 AM
I believe the quicker way is to not allow newbies and Jr. members to create new threads, except in beginners and help, then clean up the rest of the forum from spambait topics and spam mega threads.

I'd support bringing back Newbie Jail and hiring a load more moderators as well. But that doesn't address the same problem that I was trying to. It's the thousands of higher ranked accounts making pointless repetitive posts that are above the threshold to get deleted by the mods but are only made for signature payment.

OP, your idea isn't horrible, but I do think we're way too early in the game to depend on lack of merits being responsible for someone getting censored or anything like that. You know I'd be all in favor for a goal like you mentioned, but I think this proposal has too many potential pitfalls to work--yet.  Maybe in a year or so if we still have jr members with 600 activity and 23 merit...those folks might deserve to be stealth banned or some such thing.

Remember, it is in fact pretty hard to get merit points for the vast majority here.  It's really going to take some time for them to rank up--especially if their English sucks and they don't avail themselves of the local boards.

You might be right about it being too early and there not being enough Merit flowing through the system yet. Remember this isn't about censoring or punishing anyone. I just want to turn having a signature into something that has to be continually earned rather than a default right. That's effectively what Merit has done for new accounts but what about the many thousands of shitposters that are already here?
4563  Economy / Gambling / Re: FreeBitco.in - Win free Bitcoins every hour! on: March 18, 2018, 06:19:06 AM
I still can't understand one can put so much effort to earn just 20 to 30 santoshi per hour? Yes, even though they got many accounts but they still need to spend money on captcha solving software as well but at the end, these guys can make money very little from these faucet sites with so much effort.

That's probably why the ones with large botnets are the biggest problem. Try working out how much that guy with 50,000 accounts was making an hour. Not just the base reward but all the other prizes. That's a statistical chance of winning the $200 top prize 2.5 times per hour.
4564  Other / Meta / Re: Why my messages keeps getting deleted on: March 18, 2018, 06:07:59 AM
Well i think its unnecessary to keep it going with this thread, dont wanna get banned  Grin You can remove the thread, i dont have problems with that

There is a lock thread link in the bottom left corner to use when you have received an adequate response.
4565  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestion: Merit Phase 2 - Drain the Swamp (@theymos) on: March 18, 2018, 05:37:22 AM
This will play to the advantage of the spammers. All they have to do is pass merits around with each other, while the real accounts have no one to pass merits to them unless some other real account decides to.

I think I'm going to need to add a FAQ section to the OP.

I did think of that. Unfortunately, any system devised by man there will be another man trying to game it. The problem they will face is that they will quickly run out of sMerit to abuse, that was why I suggested an ongoing requirement. Like the Merit system itself, it will take time for it to show its full effect.
4566  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestion: Merit Phase 2 - Drain the Swamp (@theymos) on: March 17, 2018, 05:51:21 PM
That merit thing is becoming a communistic idea. For Newbies like me, merit will be mandatory for progressing, and I understand this. But harassing everyone to earn merit constantly is a bit too much, really. Now it aims to impose more and more restrictions. This forum should be a place of freedom, but it is getting restricted more and more, sadly.

it will take some time to understand that the freedom you mentioning is abused my majority. and the merit system is a try to fix the outcome of this freedom lol

It will also take a little time to understand that being given the privilege of being allocated some advertising space underneath your posts is an extremely generous action by the site owners. Did you think about how much Twitter and Facebook earn from placing adverts next to what you write?

Asking people to do something as trivial as posting something that gets given a merit every couple of months to earn that privilege is not harassing or imposing restrictions on anyone. WTF is this talk of freedom? You are free to use the forum without a signature.
4567  Other / Meta / Re: theymos, monetize this forum ;) on: March 17, 2018, 05:16:09 PM
I was referring to theymos.

My bad sorry. I've never seen him explain his objection and I didn't understand it to begin with. Since then I've seen some of his posts that make me think he has a certain outlook on life that he wants to give people a chance to better themselves and make a few bucks here regardless of whether they can afford to pay upfront or not. That's just an impression I get, I might be completely wrong.
4568  Other / Meta / Re: theymos, monetize this forum ;) on: March 17, 2018, 04:29:57 PM
hilariousandco has proposed the idea numerous time but it seems theymos didn't like it. I personally think this is a great idea though, it's better for all those ads money to go to the forum and quality posters rather than the spammer. IIRC he never mentioned why he dropped the idea, so I would like to hear his opinion on this.

I think a remember seeing hilariousandco post the same thing again very recently so I don't he has dropped it. Maybe he's just a bit less vocal about it since Merit has been brought in. I also thought it was a good idea but I suppose theymos has chosen another way and I'm happy to get behind that and give it a chance.
4569  Economy / Gambling / Re: bustadice – Dilution fee lowered to 1% on: March 17, 2018, 04:21:10 PM
i only play at sites with the letters "W-I-N" in domain name

can you assure that name will makes you rich ?

You're talking to jpcfan. His post was clearly a joke.

You've ruined the fun. I so love watching people argue with a joke.
4570  Economy / Gambling / Re: FreeBitco.in - Win free Bitcoins every hour! on: March 17, 2018, 04:07:54 PM
Isn't why there's captcha implementation to block automatic claiming/scripts? afaik google's recaptcha can't be bypassed or solved automatically, so, how would these scripts work?

I think Google may be behind that misconception. Captcha solvers are freely available on the internet for a small fee and I guess the people that create them may well use them themselves.

This is what Wesuit posted when he switched from reCaptcha a while ago.

Undecided I've got wrong captchas with this new one in one day more than the old captcha. They are not easier for me for some reason. Can I have the old one please?

But I haven't got the problem with the IP, maybe because no one else in the same network is playing.

I'll probably add an option to switch captchas soon but not for the next few days at least because this new captcha is helping me catch a lot of bots who are not aware of the change and are still submitting old captcha responses.
4571  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why we may be stuck in the current range for long on: March 17, 2018, 03:46:08 PM
Personally, I'm not interested in your postings here or anywhere. I feel like I'm talking to a 15 year old who is highly insecure, overwhelmingly fixated on what people might think of him, and pathologically obsessed with proving his point at all costs, no matter how disconnected it is from reality. Try proving your point to the market first since this is what ultimately counts. There's no need to prove it here, which you seem to not understand.

Someone offers a different approach to reading the market so you set about telling them they are clutching at straws and then insulting them.

I had given up any hope of having a sensible conversation with you and was done with this thread. Then you post this.

You should trust the dude above who is a pro-trader (well, at least this is what he claims himself). And he says that we will soon see a sort of short squeeze due to shorters closing their positions in panic. That should give Bitcoin prices a phenomenal boost, according to him. Personally, I believe it is not gonna happen in the foreseeable future, but I'm not claiming to be a pro, so my opinion kind of lacks enough weight and self-righteousness.

If you are going to misrepresent what I said then I'm going to it point out.

4572  Economy / Gambling / Re: FreeBitco.in - Win free Bitcoins every hour! on: March 17, 2018, 01:23:17 PM
How is he controlling the multiple accounts issue?

I thought he got a very good system to give one claim per one PC for one hour. Even people change IP address they can't claim multiple times from the same PC.

If he allows multiple claiming from different IP address from the same PC then obviously people will abuse it. Then he needs a better system to avoid this abuse.

It's the same as a DDoS attack. It's a piece of malware that allows him to control thousands of computers. Rather than just attack sites and make them run slow he runs a script to claim from faucets.
4573  Economy / Gambling / Re: FreeBitco.in - Win free Bitcoins every hour! on: March 17, 2018, 11:41:56 AM
You seriously can't think they have so much money that they don't know what to do with it so they give it out for free. Let me enlighten you - I'm 100% sure they earn a lot of BTC from the site. If there's no ads, you can only suspect how they do it .......

Of course they make money. The Hi-Lo game is where all the revenue is. The faucet is there to attract new users. I don't need to suspect it as the owner has told us.

They used to have adverts a long time back and the faucet reward varied on what geographical region you are in. When they removed adverts that was lowered for a lot of people.

If you think they lowered the rewards deliberately why do you think it only affected some people. Read back the thread and you will see many that did not get a lowered reward.

When this happened before Wesuit explained that their abuse detection system first halves the reward when certain criteria of suspicion are met and then disables the faucet completely when further checks fail. Even if that happens they never stop anyone from withdrawing or using any other features of the site.

4574  Economy / Gambling / Re: FreeBitco.in - Win free Bitcoins every hour! on: March 17, 2018, 11:19:59 AM
And what about those who deposit their money (by the way, that's where you get your "free money" from, but after 4 years of claiming you didn't know that ...) ? No info from site admin for couple of days is kind or alarming, isn't it ? What if they have some kind of financial problems ?

No. The free money comes from the faucet. The money you get from depositing is called interest as it is a payment you receive for lending them money.

The reason I don't find it alarming is I've been active on this forum long enough to have seen this before and I know that Wetsuit has been busy with other businesses as well and Myfe doesn't spend much time answering here.
4575  Economy / Gambling / Re: FreeBitco.in - Win free Bitcoins every hour! on: March 17, 2018, 10:50:00 AM
This is faucet site, right? Then what kind of abusers we are talking about?

What I know is they already give one claim per one IP address so if you have many accounts also you can claim once every one hour.

I did miss some old discussion about the abusing this system?

Yeah hidden deep within this thread. People have scripts and bots that get around whatever measures they put in place. I remember one time Wetsuit saying he banned 50,000 accounts all belonging to the same person.
4576  Economy / Gambling / Re: FreeBitco.in - Win free Bitcoins every hour! on: March 17, 2018, 10:46:29 AM
after all, it's free money that we claim so we should all just shut up and be happy, right ?

You got it.
4577  Economy / Gambling / Re: FreeBitco.in - Win free Bitcoins every hour! on: March 17, 2018, 10:36:09 AM
I'm sure they'll be devasted that you stopped claiming free money from them.
Mate, what is your problem ? Are you getting something from defending them or what ? Because you literally have to reply to everything posted here and I don't believe you have adequate knowledge to do that every single time. If you think they give out free money, then you must be really naive because nothing in this world is for free. Don't you worry, they get their share for sure. Also, how is that free money if I need to invest my time to get it ? And how do you know I didn't deposit MY OWN MONEY there ?

Next time, if you don't have anything useful to add, just don't do it.

I've been claiming free money from them since they started up 4 years ago so I have seen these things a few times before.

You don't 'invest time' you click the roll button.

I'm answering because you guys complaining that you are only getting $0.001 free instead of $0.002 free is cracking me up laughing.

4578  Other / Meta / Re: Forum ranks/positions/badges (What do those shiny coins under my name mean?) on: March 17, 2018, 10:32:00 AM
Thanks for the value information it helped alot I am trying to get some merit points
I can get some suggestions?
I posted some theards please review them and give some suggestions where I am lacking

To start off with never quote the whole of a large post and then just add a couple of lines at the end of it. It annoys people that they have to scroll past it. If you have to quote something then trim it to just the bit you are answering to.

Looking at your account you have only been here a little over a month. It will take time for you to learn enough to have anything valuable to add. Start reading and learning far more than you post. Then give it time and you might have a chance.
4579  Economy / Gambling / Re: FreeBitco.in - Win free Bitcoins every hour! on: March 17, 2018, 10:17:45 AM
If it is a bug and if they already fixed then all users account should be fixed at once but why only some accounts are okay and some accounts are not okay?

Are they doing manually one by one? I don't think so.

Because it is most likely changes to their bot and abuse detection. They changed it and it got too aggressive and now they're trying to dial it back a bit and some people are OK now but others are not yet. It is a difficult thing to get right and detect the abusers but not flag accounts that are innocent. As I said previously I can remember this happening before.
4580  Other / Meta / Re: Forum ranks/positions/badges (What do those shiny coins under my name mean?) on: March 17, 2018, 10:09:11 AM
84 activity and still a junior member? please guide.

Firstly edit your post to delete the pointless quoting of the whole OP.

Second go back to the OP and read the first two lines.
