4561  Economy / Economics / Re: How do you define rich? on: March 08, 2021, 07:59:10 PM
How would you define what is to be "rich"? Is it about having enough for living or is there something else that you would be looking to accomplish to be rich?
Is it 1 million USD? Is it 1000 bitcoin? what are your thoughts?

To me rich is achieved once ypu lose any and all stress related to financial requirements for living.  If you generally never have to worry about more money coming in than you are well off enough to be considered rich I would think, financially speaking.  I dont think there is a defined number because being rich in one area of the world would not be rich in another so its all dependent on personal situation
4562  Economy / Economics / Re: Am I too late to Bitcoin? on: March 08, 2021, 07:56:06 PM
I read this beautiful article about Am I too late to Bitcoin? it is a bit long, I will try to quote parts of it from time to time and we can discuss ideas with it below.

Quote
According to data analyst Willy Wu, there are an estimated 135 million Bitcoin users worldwide. This is less than 2% of the global population. To put that into perspective, PayPal has 361 million user accounts, Facebook has 2.8 billion monthly active users, and the internet in total has an estimated 4.7 billion users.

Quote
Thirty years ago almost no one was on the internet. Twenty years ago only 6% of the world used the internet. Ten years ago a third of the world was online, and today that number has nearly doubled to just under two thirds.

With central banks suppressing interest rates and pumping out more currency than ever before, holding cash has become a losing strategy. This is why many people since the 70’s have been saving their wealth in gold, and why today many companies (MSTR, SQ, TSLA) are deciding to adopt Bitcoin as a treasury reserve asset. When you hold a fiat currency like USD or EUR, you put your faith in central banks and government not to debase the currency. Oh, by the way debasing the currency is literally part of the stated mandates of the Fed and European Central Bank

Quote
How many dollars are in circulation? How many euros? Nobody knows exactly. But what we do know is that the total supply is increasing faster than ever before. Bitcoin, on the other hand, has a fixed total supply. Only 21 million coins will ever exist, meaning bitcoin has a 0% terminal inflation rate

There are a lot of good pieces.  I would think less than 2% of the population is using it that might be over exaggerated.  Is now a good time to get in, yeah I think anytime is.  First time in a long time a new financial asset class has been made and its growing exponentially.  Everyday more and more people are using it, learning about it, etc.  Blockchain technology is permanently here to stay and the backbone of that (bitcoin) will do very well in terms of appreciation as the masses drove in.
4563  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Do you want become Rich from HODL? HODL ETH! Read here for the reason!! on: March 08, 2021, 07:52:35 PM
I guess but with eths infinite supy dont you think it limits the upside of price as demand always has to beat not only the current supply but the influx of new eth constantly.  I would rather hold deflationary coins with a finite max supply like er um bitcoin Smiley
4564  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum to 100k? on: March 08, 2021, 07:49:55 PM
I see some crazy numbers being thrown around, one is an Ethereum coin going to 100k in 2030. How can you tell if a price prediction is too high in relation to market cap? Some people say some coins cannot hit a certain market cap. How can you tell if a market cap value is too much for a certain coin? I understand that there are coins where there are great number of circulating supply, but why can't they reach trillions in market cap?

Those are just unfounded speculations.  Litecoin is going to go to $100k in 20 years there.  See means nothing.  Ether is always going to be paced by bitcoin price.  If bitcoin is $10mil then yeah 100k is reasonable, if bitcoin drops to $1k then 100k is way out of the question.  So what people really need to do is speculate on bitcoin price then everything else will fall around it.
4565  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2020-2021 betting on: March 08, 2021, 07:47:06 PM
Anyone here bet on Giannis Antetokounmpo to win the MVP?

I looked at the odds and he was +650... That was a very generous odds if one were able to put a bet on him.

Giannis is no doubt a good player but compared to all other player like KD and LBJ, he is just a powerful forward that good on scoring by himself. The criteria of being an MVP doesn't suit him well on an All-star tournament. The odds simply shows how tough other players as contender for the title.

Giannis might someday won a championship, then he will get the respect he deserve.
He is a talented player and Lebron was too start drafting Giannis. if it's the East vs West (old format), it should be a fair match.

As we can see, the Team Lebron is obviously too much for Team Durant, and since Lebron is not too aggressive and looks like he doesn't want to force winning an MVP, so Giannis gets the benefit as he is strong in side the paint.

Yeah the teams definately got unbalanced with both durant and embid not being able to play.  Would have been a better game but it is what it is.  Ginannis is made for this type of game.  With no one playing defense it was inevitable he would have the lane all night free and clear.  Ready for Wed to get back started up.
4566  Economy / Speculation / Re: Has Elon Musk's twit caused the Bitcoin bubble burst? on: March 08, 2021, 12:46:17 PM
Has Elon Musk's tweet caused the bitcoin bubble to burst? Will it be the beginning of the bitcoin crash?

I think yeah it might have an effect as seen by the tweets he's made but for him to cause a compete bull or bear market on a trillion dollar asset by merely tweeting something is kinda rediculous.  I'd say for the day it has a positive or negative mark on bitcoin but not for long stretches, too many players involved at this point
4567  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin balance on exchanges reached a 2-year low on: March 08, 2021, 05:34:18 AM
More people are moving them BTC for exchange to Cold storage and with difficulty accessing many platforms when Bitcoin breaks ATH and the institutional demand increases, the price will rise easily after 58,330.57 point.

https://studio.glassnode.com/metrics?a=BTC&m=distribution.BalanceExchanges

Finally.  Its not so much as peoe are moving to cold storage as it is that people are finally realizing exchanges aren't wallets.  I've waited for the day when exchange balances finally go down.  Too many people will get burned as exchange "hacks" won't stop and we will lose too many people along the way.
4568  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2020-2021 betting on: March 08, 2021, 05:32:04 AM
I'm glad that everything was sorted out and lets enjoy some top class basketball tonight as I'm backing up Team Durant aswell but I will go with money line on them as the odd is more than attractive. I'm expecting a real show down between the players as at some points their ego's will take over and we might see some crazy plays which I guess all of us are waiting for.

Same here, I'm choosing team Durant as my final bet as well but I will take the point spread instead (huge), and ML (small). For MVP, I'm leaning on Kawhi Leonard and James Harden, that odds are both 14.96 in my book so I'll get x13 whoever wins, and Team Durant has to win is a must.

The odds are nice for durant team but now with embid out thats rough.  Lebrons starting lineup is insane.  Im gonna have to go on team lebron at 1.5 odds, and definately taking the over at 317.  With a lot of the younger guys going to be showcased this one might get super out of hand quick lol.

Wow that was a crazy 4th quarter, thought my over was in the clear by the end of the third quarter.  Dame hit a 40ft 3 pointer to hit the over.  Dude has insane range thankfully.  Team lebron had a clear advantage team wise, surprised the spread was only 4 points.  Easiest bet of the night was team lebron -4.  Big college bb conference tourny week this week.
4569  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2020-2021 betting on: March 08, 2021, 01:35:02 AM
Jaylen Brown couldn't make it past the first round and scored the lowest with 17 points, Meanwhile Mike Conley did put up a great performance, but Steph Curry made it look ridiculously easy..

Getting ready for Team Durant vs Team Lebron right now  Smiley

No one is on the level that curry is, maybe damian lillard especially in terms of range.  Been watching nba for a long time and steph is by far the best pure shooter I've ever seen play the game.  Maybe reggie miller or Ray allen in their prime had a stroke comparable but even that is a long stretch.  Team lebron starting: lebron, steph, giannis, luka and jokic that is rediculous.  I do t see how team Durant even competes but hey who knows

4571  Economy / Speculation / Re: I think it's time to go Short on Bitcoin on: March 07, 2021, 11:15:13 PM
I think bitcoin will drop to another Support in the next 24 hours, The volume is lower than the last weeks.

what do you think guys ?

I know this thread is a week old but I dont think you want to short at this point.  Maybe some staggered sell offs if you want to get in at a lower position, but one crazy run and ypu will be margin called real quick. Shorting in a bull or longing in a bear are dicey moves.
4572  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: HoDL Pays Off Finally on: March 05, 2021, 10:23:51 PM
So finally holding coins thus pay off, there have been many doubts and complains in the past about if bull season will ever make a comeback, here we are today in another bigger and better bull season, how many of you dumped and give up before bull season begins? This is why patience is the key when holding coins

BNB was once 6$
ETH was once 100$
BTC was once 3500$

Absolutely for coins with good long term prospects, hold is always the best trade advise.  Too many people end up losing their stack trading in or out because generally speaking when you trade with emotion you top buy and bottom sell.  Buy, hodl, enjoy the show.  Always wins out has ever since the beginning of crypto.
4573  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Advice on trends on: March 05, 2021, 10:21:42 PM
With regards to altcoins - mostly Ethereum and Litecoins - is there a time of the day/week/month when they tend to go up/down? Im guessing trading on the weekends is quieter than during the week?

Appreciate any input ... thanks
NYC.

Forget about any trends because once they are established they are instantly broken.  Do yourself a favor and just cost average into ltc or eth.  You limit your risk both on the upside and downside and ypu dont have to worry about catching tops or bottoms.  Leads for a more stress free way of accumulating as well.  If you believe in the long term aspects of something g, cost averaging is a good way to approach buying in or selling out.
4574  Economy / Economics / Re: Will New York become a Bitcoin hub on: March 05, 2021, 10:19:28 PM
Yang had a good run for dem candidate and is now on the political map.  He would be good for NYC, and I'm sure given the current state of crypto in New York state currently a lot of crypto peoe would welcome yang with open arms.  He has some good positions and seems very level headed and reasonable.  Would like to see someone like him or him in the chair running nyc.
4575  Economy / Speculation / Re: magic ball ON on: March 05, 2021, 10:15:33 PM
Bitcoin will hit $ 80,000     will start its impulse on 6/3/2021 Shocked, Ethereum can't chase it Undecided.

The ETH / BTC pair will go down. Wink

I highly recommend swap to ETH when BTC take around 80k or sell to USD, then wait for a good ETH price. All the market will go drop later. Embarrassed

like 1 BTC = 44.000usd again (like a true correction) Angry
But ethereum can go from 1200usd or 900usd to 3,000usd in just 1 year. Cool

If you hold BTC after $ 80,000 you are running the risk of being trapped.

Then the ALTSEASON will begin! ( it's just people fleeing the disaster  Lips sealed )
Dogecoin will help the altcoin as well.

I am a young boy! With an open vision of the world, I do not gain anything with this, only the satisfaction of helping some of you  Grin

Lol I find this funny as you say eth will go down (I am with you at a sat level) but I dont believe tips (begging) is allowed.  Funny but most people here always clamor on about usd pricing and never mention if they think something lime eth will go up or down against btc pairs, so kudos to you, you get it.

So the lines are already open for the All Star week.

Team Durant is opened at +2.5 and it's currently at +3.5, Total is over/under 308.5

So what are your thoughts in this game?, who's gonna win on the following competition too?

all star MVP
Dunk contest
3 point shooting (very interesting )
and skills challenge.

I am all over that over.  There will be zero defense played as normal.  As far as betting on one team versus the other, its a complete crapshoot right now.  No way to bet one way or the other.  I am definately going to be taking the over though.  I dont like betting on the skills challenges like 3pt or dunk either as it can always be swayed and really its just a stab at it.  Will be watching a lot of hockey until be resumes on Wednesday:)
4577  Economy / Speculation / Re: When BTC Bull run will end? on: March 04, 2021, 10:28:54 PM
Can anyone guess [educated guess please] when the current bitcoin bull run will end? The last bull run ended around 8th January 2018. It would be interesting to know when the bull run game will over.

Bitcoin keeps testing $50k but now for a couple times haven't been able to hold it.  I can see a dip in the.low 40s incoming.  But either way based on the run I think everyone has expected a dip.  No way can bitcoin keep this linear line run going.  I think a healthy retrace is in order and snug in low 40s and high 30s would be a good sign.
4578  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2020-2021 betting on: March 04, 2021, 10:27:00 PM
I got in on the suns money line at 1.45 before they announced steph was gonna sit, really lile those odds now Smiley  my other big plays are the kmicks winning against the Pistons and the over on the game which is sitting at 107.5 right now.  The other game I love is Portland to beat the kings sitting at -4.5 right now.  Portland is really tough and kings have some pivotal people out and just played last night in LA and won a crazy game.  Think a let down is in order and Portland knows this is a game they have to have.
4579  Economy / Gambling / Re: "The Maharaja of Bitcointalk" Sports Bettors/Tipster Competition 🏆Free entry🏆 on: March 04, 2021, 10:19:10 PM
I'm definately down for this contest, good luck to all of the other participants.  Can I ask is there any max amount of bets you can make in a day.  Meaning can we bet 5% of our stack on a bet (which is in the rules) and make 20 different bets in a day so effectively betting out entire stack in one day?  Basically any max amount of bets we can make or as many as we'd like to try to achieve the highest roi we can?
4580  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2020-2021 betting on: March 04, 2021, 12:13:01 PM
@Harkorede, @Reid, @wheelz1200 thanks for the nice words! My streak is still alive as i did very well last night too, 10/15 + 1 voided.

Don't have many lines for the first couple of games except for Nets and Raptors moneylines @1.54 lost

The spread for Nets game opened at -6.5 which is practically free money given the form the visiting team is right now (including a 49pts loss to the goddamn Grizzlies). So yeah, i missed it and it's currently at -9.5 which is still pretty doable imo but i got the ml, i don't discriminate between high and low odds.  Grin

Raptors / Pistons missing players on both teams, but without Detroit's best starter (Grant) and best bench player (J. Jackson), i don't think they can do anything more than lose 4th in a row. Lowry, Powell, and Boucher should be enough for the Raptors as they have been steadily climbing the standings in the East after a slow start of the season.

edit;
Dwane Casey still pissy he got fired from the Raptors after being named COT lol, his guys went bonkers from 3, Ellington with 8 3s lol
Rest of my picks not looking particularly great atm, it will be a miracle if i get it to 50%.
A cool off day i guess after 4 in green, it was to be expected.

Gl, everyone!  Wink

Congrats on the streak.  I went 2-1 last night.  Hit on the nets, and the over and then took the L from the Toronto dud.  With that being said tonight I'm rocking the kmicms hard.  With Detroit on the second night of an away back to back and with them crushing Toronto I think they lose this one.  Knicks and I might hit the over as its sitting at 210.
