4581  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Antminer S7 on: November 04, 2015, 01:34:20 AM
That doube-4-pin Molex to PCI-E adapter will almost definitely NOT handle the load a S7 would put on it - and it's doubtfull that your power supply puts enough current out on the "peripheral bus" +12V supply anyway.

The wiring is WAY too light, will probably melt and short out.

Thank you for agreeing with me on it  I can't believe someone said to use a molex to PCIe on mining equipment.

It is seriously asking for a fire if using cheap adapters like it.   Getting a better PSU is the best way.  To possibly kill a S7 over a hundred bucks or so makes no sense.
4582  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: rumors of 3.5Th antminer S7 "lite" on: November 04, 2015, 01:25:51 AM
I would like the rumour to be true, a 2 board 3.5TH lower priced S7 makes a lot of sense. Looking back at the original source it has a low key matter of fact ring of truth to it .

New s7 information
bitmain told me that new s7 will be released to market after another 10 days, so should be on 10th Nov, they deduce the chip amount on s7, so the hashrate of new s7 will be only around 3.5T. The price for new s7 still under discussion and will be released next week

However... if you look at the detail the maths never did add up to a 2 Board 3.5TH S7 more like 3.2TH. The OP was on the 24th October, "next week" for "price release" was last week. 10 elapsed days is Today the 3rd. 10 Working days is this coming Friday which is the 6th and yet the "release to market" is on the 10th?

So nothing adds up, so perhaps it was all just confused with Batch 4 & 5 of the S7?

Anyway we can live in hope as it would be a good addition to the range and straight competition for the B-Eleven & Avalon6.  Smiley

Rich

A 3.5 TH/s would be fine with better thermal dissipation and better volt control for a higher OC i would think, but i acknowledge that the information seem a bit wushy washy. All in all, we'll know for sure in a week and meanwhile no point in planning your finance around the S7 Lite.

I'm not sure what to think on the leak at this point.  The price does not make sense on his latest leak:

avalon delayed the shipment of a6 to the end of this week, bitmain release new s7 now, seems like new s7's hashrate is not stable for single unit, so they want to sell according to real hash rate of miner, the price for large order exceeding 1P hash rate is 430$ per T h/s. so i will sell according to 470$ per T h/s(40$ for psu and other fee). you can reply with how much hashrate you want to buy, then i can decide how much i should order.
Ok
new s7, 470$ per T hash/s Smiley

So... not sure if he was leaking false info for reasons.  Or if right and just some numbers got mixed up.
4583  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread oct 29th to Nov 12th picks are open!! With a bonus reward. on: November 04, 2015, 01:21:06 AM
415 @ coinbase so sitting very nice.   Hopefully we go even higher.

Bitwisdom:
Bitcoin Difficulty:    62,253,982,450
Estimated Next Difficulty:    66,570,092,486 (+6.93%)
Adjust time:    After 1096 Blocks, About 7.1 days
Hashrate(?):    486,390,713 GH/s

The difficulty change might hurt but the value going up takes care of it.
4584  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Start trading on: November 03, 2015, 10:45:48 PM
i wouldnt recommend trading cryptocurrencies as one day bitcoin can be in huge price and another day it can drop by 30 dollars it is really unpredictable in my opinion
I agree with you its could be very risky for any newbie he need to spend too much time here as he has good experience then he can start this otherwise he will lost his all money

Just never invest more then you can lose.  Those who got in on 230 and now raised to 400 or so made a lot off just sitting on coins.   If you go into alts it gets harder and harder.

So if OP is thinking day trader.... it's going to be tough.  If trading as in holding long  term not near as tough to do.
4585  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BITMAIN AntMiner APW3-12-1600 PSU Series on: November 03, 2015, 10:41:30 PM
Guys, trying to Run 2 EA S5's and 1 EA S3 off a single PSU 1600 from bitmain, this style on thread.
Is this too close and wont hold, in your opinions or anyone else try this?
S5 PSU is 590W at wall, and S3 is 340 total is 1520 W
So it makes sense to me that it would work?
If so why not?

Thanks

On a 1600 watt PSU you would be pushing it pretty dang hard to run at that load.  I would personally do lower.

Or you can underclock so that they use less.  With unerclocking  you for sure could do all 3.
4586  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: November 03, 2015, 10:38:01 PM
Did anyone else in USA have to provide SSN to customs before they would release package for delivery?

Yes. I had to do that as part of the customs form that I had to fill out for FedEx.

This seems to be a common thing to happen when you order bulk quantities (over a certain value).  It seems to flag customs and you have to pay when it arrives.  I had to pay $38 when it arrived.  I have been making all single orders since then and not been asked for SSN or had to pay when it arrived.

Yes importing values of $2,500 USD or more will result in this.

I may be lucky but I've never had it with UPS even if over.  Only thing i've had was they audited the PSU's and saw they weighed more then bitmain declared so I had to pay the difference (like 15 bucks for 3 so not bad).

But other then that no problems on UPS here.  With being at edge of DHL drivers area, DHL is my worst one.
4587  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: rumors of 3.5Th antminer S7 "lite" on: November 03, 2015, 10:18:12 PM
Interesting rumors on imminent introduction of antminer S7 'lite" hashing at 3.5 Th
Speculate on price...
My take: ~3.5 BTC initially ($1000), eventually down to 3 BTC.

So much for this theory BITMAIN just posted two new batches 4 and 5 of the S7 and I don't see a S7 lite. so is this theory hogwash ?

This one could go either way, however rumoured release date was the 10th.

Rich

We do not know how accurate his info is. I thought accurate at first.  But his latest leak on price on S7 in bulk does not add up since it's cheaper to buy S7 as a regular customer then what he claims a 1 PH customer gets.

So I'm losing faith in the info that was leaked.

I very much hope the fact come through because i could really use a S7 lite right now. Right now buying a full S7 is a bit iffy considering how much money you're putting in limbo for a minimum of 1 month, since the shipping is not due for one month. =/

I don't know how sure I am of his info.   He said a price that was higher if you bought 1  PH then if you just bought 1 miner per T.  So either a typo or miscommunication or something.

But it makes me wonder on his leaks when the price did not add up right on one of them.
4588  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Suggestion for Home Rig on: November 03, 2015, 10:15:59 PM
Very little to choose between S3 & S3+ S3 is the earlier slightly speed reduced at 218.75MHz, S3+ is at 225MHz. I would choose on the basis of condition / price. PSU wise I would always go for the price, reliability & efficiency of a converted Server PSU, others would go for the ease of using a Computer PSU. I will leave someone else to recommend as I have never bought one?

Rich

Only thing is some of batch run slower, they did compensation for batch 1 of S3's.  So if you have a choice I would not get batch 1.  But it all depends on the price you get.

With "free" electricity you  can ROI.  Just be careful as some rigs run hot/loud.  For example S3 easier to make quiet then S5, without mods.
4589  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread oct 29th to Nov 12th picks are open!! With a bonus reward. on: November 03, 2015, 10:13:29 PM
BTC @ 414 USD

THIS is why I never turned off my S3's even when they were just making pennies a day, those pennies just behaved like bunnies.  Wink

Looks like some sold were a ta under 400. But we hit a high of around 416.62 today.  So will be interesting where we end up in a few hours.

I just want over 400 and I'm happy Smiley for the moment. 230 to 400 is a huge jump is a pretty small period of time.
4590  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Best mining hardware? on: November 03, 2015, 10:10:26 PM
You've been lied to, no one has solved a block with pen and paper and especially within 30 minutes. What you could do is build a solar setup of a couple hundred watts and run an asic on there if you really really want to.

You can actually do it by pencil and paper - http://www.righto.com/2014/09/mining-bitcoin-with-pencil-and-paper.html . You will not be able to compete  against Asics.... so by the time your doine it's worth nothing but you can do by hand.

One of my favorite ones I've seen is a BTC solving nes - http://retrominer.com/  Just a cool project no useful mining coming out of it.
I have read and seen about doing it by paper but no way do I believe someone has solved a block by hand, the odds are just too extraordinary.

You would be right no one has solved a block on it.  They have mined with it.   But in the end you could never submit work as Asics soul have beaten you to it.

So I guess mining by hand possible as far as experiment.  Solving by hand not possible I understand what your saying now and do agree.
4591  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: ASICPuppy.net - AntRouter R1 ($49.99) COMPAC ($34.99) - ANTMINER U3 ($44.99) on: November 03, 2015, 05:10:26 PM
Over 24 hours by a decent amount. 3 U3's all running on 1 R1.  It is not having any zombie issues.  So far everything the new programming is able to fix.  Which truly is awesome.

Thank you for doing the custom firmware!  Truly this version is amazing.
4592  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER U3 Discussion and Support Thread on: November 03, 2015, 05:07:34 PM
hi guys
i need some help Smiley i received my u3 today and followed instructions at this topic and also read most of it..

first installed // CP210x_VCP_Windows drivers
then http://zadig.akeo.ie // CP2102 USB to UART Bridge Controller
im using my computers "corsair cx750" as power supply / not bitmain's psu.
tried to run with both usb2 // usb3 ports and powered hub (also used 3 different cables)
im not playing with any values just using default config, starting cgminer with bat file >> "cgminer.exe -o "POOL" -u "ASD" -p "ASD"
when i open usb management page at cgminer, it says
Hotplug interval:5
0 usb devices - 0 enabled - 0 disabled - 0 zombie
as i understand cgminer not recognizing my u3 i dont know why..

can u help a bit ? Smiley thanks

For one thing looks like you have it pointed twords  a LTC pool.  U3's are BTC miners, try a BTC pool and see what happens.

I've never tried to mine a LTC pool with BTC miner so cant say what it does.  But we should be able to help more if on right type of pool.

4594  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [CATALOG] Good websites to Invest My Bitcoins? on: November 03, 2015, 04:33:00 PM
I have invested many times before and lost it many times. However, cryptoboose isnt a bad website. But always remember that you may loose your. Tc.

What the hell is cryptoboose? Huh I only know cryptoboost and that's also the first thing that popped out on my mind since this thread is about websites to invest.

If you are really referring to cryptoboost, I do not recommend it since its is a PONZI site! You should not invest on ponzis cuz of the high risk. Just my two cents Roll Eyes

It does look a lot like a possible scam to me.  Also they are having problems: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1203861.200

Running out of  money on hotwallet is not good when trying to get people to use your site.  So I think I would avoid them.
4595  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: November 03, 2015, 04:27:36 PM
Anybody can vouch for the legitimacy of the BLOCKC entity: http://www.blockc.co/ ?

I want to order the MOQ of 10 to test them, but they look kind of new..

Yes I can vouch. Blockc is the official reseller in US. Im in direct contact with Xiang Fu (Avalon) and Sean (Blockc).

You can check blockc blog to see Sean with Xiang Fu.

Im also working with Avalon for some projects.

Will you be making a MOQ 10 order, or thought about doing a group buy?
Probably but I will do it for Canadian customer. Maybe check with Philipma1957 for a US group buy.

Do you know if there has been a conformation on if timeframe looks like they will meet it?:

We expect our first batch of Avalon6 miners to arrive at our California datacenter by November 10, 2015.

Does anyone have a spare coupon for Batch 4 or 5?

What coupon? Did Bitmain send out new ones? Last ones expired on Oct 12.

I'm on the fence about ordering one since there doesn't seem to be any used hardware for sale.  If they did issue coupons I'd probably jump on it if I could get my hands on one.

I'm hoping that since they raised it there will be coupons.  But I'm doubting it.  They do not seem to be the coupon type people lately.

There are no new ones, the ones expired back a bit.  But I figured they will get a lot of flak from people who bought with BTC so much lower on last batches.
4597  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread oct 29th to Nov 12th picks are open!! With a bonus reward. on: November 03, 2015, 04:23:25 PM
All my miners right now feel like Golden Geese. I probably wouldn't sell them at any price.

Maybe $1000 for my Antminer S3+
Making me question selling my last Antminer S3+ for $130 now! Lol Tongue

Keep on rising BTC!  We will break $400 soon.

i was reluctant to sell any of my hardware.. i have 60 ths sha sittin in corner.. 20 a1   14 lketc..  37 s3's and so on .. If it goes up much more it will have been a wise choice(today im firing up the s3's). Other wise ill just part them out.. They are worth a bit still even if btc were to tank with all the good salvalgeable parts.. psu ras pi etc.  Happy time to be a miner Cheesy

anyone need some heat for this winter near midwest im sure i can help ya out  Grin

Best Regards d57heinz

Very impressive on amount of miners you have. Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Do you have a picture of what your data center is like? That is a lot of watts of gear.   If you don't use I would for sure try to part out with price high.
4598  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Antminer S7 on: November 03, 2015, 04:21:08 PM
Thank you so much for all of the input was a little worried about the power. I am in the US and am 120V. will these work as well?

http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-6-Inch-Express-Adapter-LP4PCIEXADAP/dp/B0007RXDDM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1446505806&sr=8-1&keywords=pcie+6+pin+adapter

Also would putting it in the garage be bad? with cooling in mind

That one is fine if you connect the molex connector from two different cables. The current will be split between two cables connecting to the two different socket of power supply.

It's between two molex though... .molex to PCIe is not a good idea as most miners get a LOT out of the PCIe.

Your asking for heat problems on wire and possible burns on it or worse.  Don't get that adapter.
4599  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Best mining hardware? on: November 03, 2015, 02:09:24 PM
Hello,

I may want to start a little project to make little bitcoin farm, which is hopefully profitable. I want to use usb miners. And what else do I need? Rasperry pi? And how much miners i can use for each raspberry pi?

You need to do some reading.  Most mining is done by Asics, which most come with a controller so you plug it in and set it up, and leave it alone.

Raspberry PI is a good controller for Avalon 4.1, compacs, lots of usb miners, etc.  But you have some research to do as it's a huge range of the different kinds of miners.

Just basic check what is your electricity price?  And do you have vat/import tax?
I am thinking of doing a project with college and they run the miners there 24/7. I read that the prices of electricity in the netherlands is 0.22€ per kWh.

Is that cheap or expensive?
Very expensive. The ideal electrical costs should be below US$0.10. If you can get efficient hardware that is cheap, go for it. I hardly think there is any unless you buy an used one.
hmm, that is annoying. Why is it so cheap elsewehre?
So u guys suggest me to do cloudmining?
Different electricity generation method? Some have natural geothermal energy or electric dam.

Cloudmining does not give you the first hand experience of mining as it's hosted in the datacenter. Cloudmining would most probably not be profitable at all and it would just be a waste of money if the company doesn't scam you. Go for a USB miner. It doesn't hash fast but it is a great device to try mining from.
Okay the usb miners it will be, do I need per se a computer to make it mine? Or can I just plug it into the electricity net? So that I only need to set up my address through software? Or I need raspberry pi? And how much usb miners i can power with one raspberry pi?
You do need raspberry Pi as a low profile host. There are guides here. You cannot possibly power a USB miner with those ports on raspberry Pi. You do need a powered USB port, you can easily obtain them. The key is it must be powered, it must be able to be plugged into a power plug to supply it some power. You should also put a fan to cool them down. An example is this. I would assume that you can run loads of USB miners with powered ports.
So 1 raspberry pi would be enough to power as much miners as i want? The fan isn't the problem, that isn't too expensive. So if i would mine i would make loss right?
IIRC, the theoretical maximum was 127 (USB2) and 49 device in reality. There hasn't been much updates in the USB mining since it is vastly inefficient for mining in the masses. It would make a rather good Christmas decoration when it blings IMO.
Haha ROFL!
Also I would not buy 49 USB miners for a little farm, then it would be much better to buy an ASIC S5?
Isn't there any other way to mine? Because i saw a video once a guy solved a block within 30 minutes with pen and paper...

People have done it on the 49 port hub.  It was back in the block erupter day's long ago. So not recent.

Most recent high capacity is Phils rig I thik.  I think he has 19 or 20 compacs running off of one hub which I believe the most compacs to one user.  The nice thing with compacs if you can lotto mine for almost no cost on electricity with RPI an compac.

coins are nuts  coinbase is pushing 377     we could crack 400 overnight

Crazy coinbase is setting at a pretty solid 379.64 right now.  So lookss like we are trying to break 380 wall.... who would have guessed this.

I love being wrong on speculation when it turns into something good.  Fun surprise to hit this on coinbase.
we are over 390!

I should have a stock ticker on my wall to watch this.  It's a lot of fun watching it move up.  I realy want to cross 400.

It seems like we just might be able to do it toay.... I hope at least.  Good time to be a Bitcoin miner, or even a holder who held from 230.
