4581  Economy / Exchanges / Re: BTER.com hacked - 7170 BTC stolen [DON'T KEEP YOUR MONEY ON AN EXCHANGE] on: February 17, 2015, 07:11:22 AM

......... How much more secure is my wallet at home which is running on my PC when a wallet with 7000 coins in it - presumably kept safe by smart people - gets stolen? Yes, targeting a 7000 BTC worth wallet is more lucrative than mine, but still.

I suspect it was an inside job, and the smart people who should have been keeping the cold wallet safe robbed it themselves.

I though about it too and many others on the forums as well. I'd say let's wait and see what happens. We don't have to assume the worst at first.

Usually the worst is likely to be the right answer.

We are still waiting some news from them, Bter.com where are you ?

4583  Local / Italiano (Italian) / Re: BTER.COM HACKED on: February 16, 2015, 09:08:30 PM
Io avevo depositate diverse altcoin su Bter, adesso cosa succede? Il sito rimborserà i propri clienti? Ditemi di si...

Per adesso hanno scritto questo come puoi leggere da solo: All wallets have been shut down and withdrawals of the unaffected coins will be arranged later.

E quindi? C'è da aspettare o ormai ho perso tutto??!!

Dipende cosa intendi per tutto, quante coins avevi la dentro? Solo bitcoin o anche altcoin?

Lolol  Grin Cheesy Angry Grin Cheesy Grin

I will buy 1 million Findcoin at 1550 sat

 Cool Shocked Grin Cheesy Grin

Show me the money! Cheesy

I think he meant he want to buy all the 1 million of FIND for only 1550 sat, but maybe I'm wrong.

I am sure you are right but I have some doubts he has even this 1550 satoshi. FUDders have no coins! Smiley
I also believe he is fuding. He has been doing that for other coins already and I have him on my ignore list. I wouldn't recommend to treat his offer seriously.

4586  Economy / Digital goods / Re: [WTS] Full Member Cheap on: February 16, 2015, 08:36:51 PM
Interesting : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=958081.0  the forum account is "ikydesu".
i think it is funny that a newbie was able to find out its identity lol

Yes this is very strange, but at the same time "funny". Candystripes you are not welcome in this forum, go away.

Can you report the PM (of ikydesu) to the mod ? This is the only way to "validate" it.  If you are honest , thenk ikydesu is an alt of Candystripes (due the use of the same bitcoin address- or the account was hacked or he bought that account and now is trying to "resell" it).
4589  Economy / Exchanges / Re: BTER.com hacked - 7170 BTC stolen [DON'T KEEP YOUR MONEY ON AN EXCHANGE] on: February 16, 2015, 08:17:08 PM
Why you shouldn't never keep your coin on an exchange : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=945881.0  (added the thread to the initial post).

Thanks @gbianchi for his fantastic explanation, and remember as always : an exchange isn't a bank.
4590  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [DATA]Exchanges: their way of using a fractional-reserve and generate inflation on: February 16, 2015, 08:14:31 PM
Thanks again gbianchi for your useful explanation, I've added this topic here : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=956738.0
4591  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: no btc left after bter episode on: February 16, 2015, 07:58:26 PM
I was lucky because I've used bter.com a few months ago for trade archcoin after the ico and after I withdrew all the coins. Remember , don't keep your "money" on an exchange.
4592  Other / New forum software / Re: Like button idea ? on: February 16, 2015, 07:00:39 PM
Hello everyone ,
How did you think about a new button "Like" that will be useful

Useful for what?

Maybe for avoid the posts like : +1 , thanks for the topic, etc...

However insted of like, it would be better the "Thanks" button.
4593  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Expert Input Only: How Is A Cold Wallet Bter Exchange Hack Possible? on: February 16, 2015, 05:19:40 PM
Ok forget who did it but cant we capture the funds by getting all exchanges a tool that will detect if the deposits are from that bad transaction? (i have the tool to do it)

You won't be able to get all the exchanges, gambling sites, mixers and merchants accepting Bitcoins to agree. There will always be places which will allow laundering of the stolen funds.

really 7000btc? atleast we can try

As every of us told : bitcoin is decentralized, and every one has the choice to agree or not agree. It will be impossible to convince all the miners, various exchange , sites, etc...

Literally : it is gone.
4594  Other / Meta / Re: Newbie Jail Needed at the earliest on: February 16, 2015, 05:15:47 PM
Many months ago I adopted a shoot first policy on members with ads in their sig.  I began reflexively clicking "ignore" on any poster that had an ad in their sig.  I only un-ignore when I encounter quotes of things that poster has said that indicate that they actually contribute useful, helpful, or interesting things.

This has made bitcointalk a much more useful and much more pleasant place to participate in.

I personally don't like ignoring someone. Smiley

No offense but I think it isn't possible to see a ignored person's posts. So do you unignore to check the post and then if it is useful, perma-unignore or else, perma-ignore?

   -MZ

You can see them when someone quotes them as he mentioned.

So.. does "ignore" work only to the original post ? This is not a complete  "ignore function" (literally a bug).
4595  Economy / Exchanges / Re: BTER.com hacked - 7170 BTC stolen [DON'T KEEP YOUR MONEY ON AN EXCHANGE] on: February 16, 2015, 04:55:55 PM
i mailed to BTER and they replied me. i asked about other altcoins and they:

Quote
Dear Sir,
We are trying to get the stolen btc back. The withdrawal of other unaffected coins will be arranged later

Please kindly keep an eye on the bter.com for the update

Best Regards
Bter.com

Can I add the email on the first post of this thread or could it be a problem for you ?
4596  Other / Meta / Re: Why Bitcointalk don't use Google Adsense ? on: February 16, 2015, 04:52:44 PM
Hi,

I was really wondering why the forums don't use Google Adsense , BuySellAds , or any other Advertising company that pays well , I know that there is Auctions that theymos do to make ads and get paid but I don't think they are enough or we can compare them with Adsense or any other company . I mean come on .. the forum is getting millions of page views each month , so I don't see why theymos wouldn't use those .

~ Madness

I think because 1) the google ads banners will ruin bitcointalk "design" (does not integrate "well") - - 2) because they are using Js, and theymos doesn't allow js banner here in the forum.
4597  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Expert Input Only: How Is A Cold Wallet Bter Exchange Hack Possible? on: February 16, 2015, 04:36:55 PM
Yeah, it is not a COLD wallet once it touches the internet. Looks like they may have been incorrectly using their "COLD" wallet.

Now would be a good time for users of other services to question exactly that their exchange or wallet operate means when they say 'cold wallet'.  Cold wallet is just words.  Security is in the details.  I would not be surprised if there are other exchanges operating right now which believe bringing a wallet online for spending is still a 'cold' wallet.

I agree with that, their definition of cold wallet "was wrong". If they was connected on internet (also for 5 minutes) it wasn't more a cold wallet .
4598  Economy / Exchanges / Re: BTER.com hacked - 7170 BTC stolen [DON'T KEEP YOUR MONEY ON AN EXCHANGE] on: February 16, 2015, 04:22:23 PM
No  Sad , I lost 3,4 bitcoin. Now what should I do ?
Drink cold water  ... as me from mtgox colapse, these exchanges are big sh@t and no one is secured

Yes, you can't do nothing. Only wait news from them and hope they will repay you (at least a percentual of your loss, or better completely).
4599  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: I sell 1 BTC for paypal $ on: February 16, 2015, 01:30:37 PM
i don't understand how OP can scam if OP is selling BTC for paypal. wouldn't the person who buy the bitcoin from OP be the only one who can reverse funds??

The problem is : he/she wants the other part to send *firstly* the dollars (through paypal) and after he/she will send the bitcoin (I doubt there is any bitcoin).
4600  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Netagio Bitcoin Exchange Closure on: February 16, 2015, 12:21:40 PM
I've never heard netagio, until now. However this is a bad news, but (I believe) it will not have a "bad" impact to bitcoin ecosystem.

I hope not, but what concerns me is that the explanation about the reasons of closure is (unfortunately) quite spot on. I have to agree what they say about stagnation in the industry, the dropping price, regulatory uncertainty, the anticompetitive decision by banks to deny bank accounts to trade Bitcoin, hacking - that all sounds valid points. I think that's how real businesses see Bitcoin and it seems real businesses have a serious reservation about dealing with Bitcoin right now. In the meantime, despite the increasing merchant adoption the volume, the trade volume of Bitcoin was not increased at all, which just verifies that real businesses stay away from Bitcoin.

Anyway, I hope it will get better. The 600+ shitcoins even have less chance to succeed.

Yes they have right, but it is not an intrinsic bitcoin problem. The real problem is the "person", bitcoin as technology is good but the person are ruining it. The effects are : the price is dropping, a lot of people abandon the bitcoin ecosystem , etc...

It will be impossible to regulate bitcoin, because it isn't compatible with this actual "FIAT economy".
