I think it's good if you do your own research if you want to buy those cheaper altcoins as more alts are having hype and its a risk to invest without doing your research.
Very often the cheapest "penny" altcoins really give the best profits but not all of them. If you are not yet ready to risk, pick better Cardano, NEO, DASH, Monero, and Qtum. We have a lot of resistance's even before reaching $15k, why don't we just hit past those resistances first before claiming the next one. Personally, however the market wants to play it in the future is none of my business, what matters is the trend I follow to trade. If we get to see an upward trend that leads to that level, good, if not, also good.

Yes of course, by original design, bitcoin is indeed a digital currency. You are very right on that one.
But the latest all time high of bitcoin last year made it more convincing that bitcoin has evolved from digital currency to digital gold, and we can't blame many people who deem it to be. Even industry giants saw that bitcoin is a sound investment.
And when market experts believe that bitcoin is the future digital gold, it's really hard to contradict.
