461  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: New altcoin - Searching for dreamers- Code name: Bernoulli on: December 10, 2013, 09:37:04 PM
I am a big believer in 0 premine, however the challenge is to find a way to get an inicial amout of coins in order to suport the launch and the developers.
What do you think guys?

I think the developers should surely be compensated for time spent on a project, but anything that looks premined has lately taken alot of flack, the best way I have read is if your very clear about how much of a percent is to go toward the development team, with it clear at the start people can choose into the project or opt out completely, as a novice crypto player here I would hope more ingenious projects are clear that a percent is going to development instead of devs sneaking a way that looks bad but cannot be proven.
462  Other / Beginners & Help / bter.com just got a facelift on: December 10, 2013, 09:11:21 PM
So I am clicking around real quick to check out some graphs and I see this shadow behind bter, looked kind of weird, all of a sudden bamn! I am behind some prison fence inside a website, haha! that was my first impression..
463  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: True Market Value of Alt Coins on: December 10, 2013, 06:25:02 PM
Is there a website out there which shows actual amount of US Dollars (or bitcoins) flowing through each alt coin?
And how would you calculate such an amount?
Exactly, quite difficult when Alt coins value is determined by the value of BTC, when BTC crashed below 600 the other day no Alt coin retained its own value from what I could see, USD did not change, when a calculation is done to value an Alt coin it needs be Alt/BTC cause the value is not truly based on any other  currency.
464  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: DATACOIN : Choosing the "first" document uploaded in the blockchain on: December 10, 2013, 04:32:45 PM
we can choose multiple books, and then include their TX IDs into all Datacoin promotions, just like proof-of-concept.
Why not load up a list of the founders names and a bio to go with it, in this way as the coin moves in a direction away from them or givin time they are givin due credit for their work.
465  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: DATACOIN : Choosing the first document uploaded in the blockchain on: December 10, 2013, 04:26:18 PM
Unfortunately, the first document has been stored already.

This document is:

Hello Data

I think this was a good choice of words for testing, could of been: lets see if this mutha works...
466  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Here is why QUARK is so hot, so expensive? Read it and think? on: December 10, 2013, 03:25:09 PM
I'm not going to jump into the arguments here but...

Group monopoly? Wouldn't the correct term be oligopoly in this case?

I do not think so, cause everyone is kind of intertwined
467  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Here is why QUARK is so hot, so expensive? Read it and think? on: December 10, 2013, 03:18:00 PM
I'm guessing this group monopoly is gonna be happening a lot now, just follow the wave and sell at the crest

Hope the next group brings out some additional tech with their coin, and maybe a legit marketplace where a person can use it.
468  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: QRK to the win! on: December 10, 2013, 03:10:02 PM
I will never invest 1 penny into Quark. Greedy early minercoin.

I see all coins that way, all the way down the line from BTC, not one has been developed that is not designed to make early adopters wealthier, at some point someone will come up with an idea and make a truly superb coin that's designed for use and and will have some next gen crypto features that will drive the demand up, but wont put a shadow on the first few to the table, I unfortunately have a hard time trusting anyone involved with the startup of Quark, or any other crypto coin for that matter. (well there are 2 projects I am watching I could careless about what direction they go)
469  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [BSS] BossCoin - Do Not Waste Your Time (Scam Coin)! on: December 09, 2013, 05:00:38 PM
oh and for anyone reading this and wondering what I'm still doing posting here...

this whole tirade is for no other purpose than to let you know that if you are mining BossCoins (BSS), you should know that you will ultimately be benefiting the coin's founder, who is a crook, thief and a liar...  plenty of other coins to choose from to support

I'm 100% in SBC StableCoin now and actively watching others.

P.S. If you'd like to work with me to develop a new currency that actually sets itself apart from others, LMK, pm me.  Thanks
Why would someone work on just a coin and not on ways to help people spend their coins? Just wondering cause you can go buy this coin or that but the places to use them are limited, what some devs really need to do is launch a coin with 10-20 diverse sites where they can be spent, that would make a great coin and average users could adopt it knowing they can buy some new hardware or send gifts to somebody, as it is i go mine these coins then go exchange them for one accepted somewhere to get any real value out of them, doing so I risk coins in an exchange (currently) and have to deal with the extreme volatility of the coin I trade for, its a crazy run around to turn hashing into value.

Guess that experiment is over, mined several hours, to find out I do not really understand difficulty and I should never have attempted to mine this coin, how does coinmine pool work anyway?

472  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: IMPROVED Quark [QRK] win64 CPU Miners i3i5i7 Bulldozer on: December 08, 2013, 06:51:44 AM
Learning to mine here, and I guess I am currently mining for palmdetroit, now how do I set my address up in the .bat file for the win64_all version?

The included .txt file will tell you what to change, you can mine at the same pool or choose another, but yes make your own account.
Thanx man

The owner/operator of Cryptsy is well known as he has repeatedly made it clear he is Paul Vernon from Del Ray Beach,Florida. Cryptsy is registered as a business with the State Florida. As such it makes it very easy to file complaints with the State of Florida over the issues we are having. Cryptsy is in the mid process of filing all the needed applications to enter into a USD market. The last thing they need are multiple complaints about financial mismanagement and issues right now as it would get them nixed pretty quickly. Florida is very aggressive on consumer issues like this and it doesn't matter if you reside outside the USA.

Paul Vernon himself, also know as BigVern needs to come in here and explain what is going on.  Not one of his "lackys" like BitJohn or pr9me but Paul Vernon himself.  I have a combined total of coins in limbo of about 63BTC. Enough is enough. Let us know what is going on or deal with the consequences.

What say you Paul Vernon?

i refuse to read this thread completely (just saying), every exchange has been hit hard with BTC in the news lately, and every exchange was unprepared, the operators of the exchanges look like they will be making alot of cash over the next year and so will get things figured out, i also have been critical of how they are doing things, but have decided that they are faced with a workload that could not be predicted, they could not prepare for mass amounts of glitches that come with the traffic and attempts to hack their system, give them 10 days like you would give VISA or MC, on bter.com I see people getting their coins after a bunch of different problems, if the little guy can get past its problems and get people paid so can the rest, just will take some time.

Why would you keep 63 BTC on an exchange anyway? Unless you had some kind of faith in it to begin with?
476  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Community-run list of Bitcoin merchants (help me fill it!) on: December 07, 2013, 08:27:27 AM
i think you need to look at building a layer on top of google maps, and sell it as an app for cell phones so you are reimbursed for work you put into it.
477  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin at $600 and going down down on: December 07, 2013, 08:18:39 AM
I will buy a bunch at $10, never going to happen though, i am guessing speculators are dropping their investment with all the bad news about it lately, but those of us that want to use it give it its value,  now all you new millionaires need to ask your new gardener if they will accept it as payment, and your cleaners, and whomever else you think you can pay with it.

It will bounce right back, mark my words.
478  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If confirmation takes 10 minutes, how will I buy coffee at Starbucks? on: December 07, 2013, 07:59:21 AM
Which gets me thinking that maybe Starbucks ought to have some kind of protection if a transaction is going to take a long time (10 minutes), and buyers ought to have code on their mobile device wallet that communicates with the Starbucks client to insure that it is a part of the network.
479  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If confirmation takes 10 minutes, how will I buy coffee at Starbucks? on: December 07, 2013, 07:52:53 AM
For small purchases, you don't really have to wait for a confirmation.  You just need to make sure the transaction appears on the network.  If there are any losses, they can be written off as a cost of doing business or treated as theft.  The chances of double-spending for a cup of coffee are less than the chance of someone walking out on a restaurant bill.

This is correct, and who knows if this isn't workable, maybe bitcoins will not be for buying coffee.

watching alt coins and the work developers are putting into faster confirmations, it truly makes sense that bitcoin was developed as more of a security or commodity than a currency, I wont promote any specific coin on this thread, but  look at the possibility's out there, satoshi (or whoever) could not have built this coin without pondering where it actually would end up, everything I see tells me that it is just the foundation of a crypto financial system, he knew others would follow and bring innovation with them, with this in mind, if your trying to replace fiat and your on your way into a ballpark, do you want to stop and wait for a transaction to be confirmed before the guy scalping tickets releases them to you?-no- many things we buy in -  . . . - are on the go, system flaws and hackers tell me that I need a debit like system if I am going to use crypto currency, Starbucks may not mind protecting itself against a double spend multi wallet criminal, but the guy with 10 minutes in his busy life on craigslist is not really going to want to adopt the policy of the corporations of the world just cause their system works for them, find the altcoin that is most secure, fast, and is close to the fiat or currency we have used for century's and lets move on with this decentralized currency idea that has somehow attached itself to BTC.

P.S. Buy more pizza with BTC

Did you read the other posts in this thread or look more deeply into the double spend issue before posting that?

Double spends: difficult to attempt, easy to spot.

Yes i read the thread, I usually pick the shorter ones to post in, I have read arguments about double spending and it seems to be very difficult, the common thief has not yet been sold the wallets to double spend with, given time they will come, I have read alot of arguments and anything I say should only be taken as my opinion as a "what if" based on my perception.

Do you ever make transactions that you expect to take 30 seconds?

Ever buy anything in such a rush that you were unable to wait for your change?

how easy is it to spot a double spend? Is it possible to have a program on your cell phone that looks like a legit wallet but can quickly produce an address that is similar to one that is attached to a QR code? such a program could remove the double spend and would be outright theft, i would much rather a quick confirmation if I am selling something on a busy street
480  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Never forget: Monday 11/18/13 on: December 07, 2013, 07:23:06 AM
I do feel for those that are banking on the success of cryptocurrency and are not confident in the community that is behind them, yes some people have lost 40% + in wealth today, still dropping, not to worry though, the bounce back will make some feel like they are on top of the world, this drop will be a learning curve for some speculators who are the reason that this is happening, crypto is the future, dry those eyes, tomorrow is another day..
