461  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How many BTC per wallet is best? on: November 18, 2013, 03:26:54 AM
I use 20 paper wallets to keep the amount of BTC low in each wallet and store copies at two separate banks.
462  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: You don't have to buy a whole Bitcoin! You can buy partial! on: November 18, 2013, 03:25:48 AM
The public needs to know this.

More than *three* people have told me recently they "missed out" on the Bitcoin thing because "Bitcoin is $550 now and too expensive".

Nobody realizes they can buy partial coins.

I realize this has been discussed already but I want a thread front and center on the general forum, so that people researching bitcoin see it and internalize it.

I truly believe if the general public doesn't realize they can buy 0.005 BTC and still make a profit, they wont buy at all, and that is going to adversely affect the success of the market.

Right now is when the general public is thinking of hopping on board.

How can we get the word out?

The exchanges must update their websites as soon as possible to make buying BTC in partial amounts a more obvious thing.

Im going to PM Olaf from Coinbase about this right now... i think its severely important for continued purchases.

I heard the same thing a number of times in real life, then I just give them the analogy of a dollar and how it breaks up into cents.
463  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Buying BTC for Chase QuickPay, IBAN, SEPA, Wire, Amazon, or Paypal on: November 18, 2013, 03:20:31 AM
Added Western Union and Moneygram for our friends looking for fast sales of a little bitcoin.
464  Economy / Speculation / Re: Your biggest bitcoin-buy/sell fuckups - Therapy by writing & reading :) on: November 18, 2013, 02:41:29 AM
My worst decision was selling 200 bitcoins a few feeks ago when I found 300 bitcoins. Of course I have been buying them up and building up my bitcoin coffers again.
465  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who here actually bought something with btc in last 6 months? on: November 18, 2013, 02:36:57 AM
It would be fun to find some gas stations or cafes to spend bitcoins at.
466  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold collapsing. Bitcoin UP. on: November 18, 2013, 02:34:24 AM
I have a Gold IRA and have no intentions of getting rid of it. Personally I think Gold is safer and Bitcoin is the riskier side of my investing although I LOVE LOVE LOVE bitcoin (at the moment) haha. The key word though is always Diversify!
467  Economy / Speculation / Re: November 2013 Bubble Analysis on: November 18, 2013, 02:32:16 AM
I agree there will be another drop sometime before the end of the year, though how high will it go in the mean time is what I am wondering. I may not be able to buy bitcoin at these prices again even with a drop.
468  Economy / Speculation / Re: $500 before Christmas ? on: November 18, 2013, 02:30:41 AM
haha funny thread. Definitely was a very conservative estimate. 1k before Christmas maybe? Wink
469  Economy / Speculation / Re: And we have hit $550 Folks ... on: November 18, 2013, 02:29:38 AM
Thanks for moving this to "Speculation" ...

But this isn't a speculation thread.

I don't see any speculating going on.

I see declaring  Smiley

I think its to keep the main bitcoin discussion forum from being cluttered with new points. Indirectly a speculation type discussion post.
470  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: WTF Coinbase? on: November 18, 2013, 02:26:36 AM
I keep hearing about this. I have only sold through coinbase, but I plan on buying more bitcoin through coinbase this week; makes me hesitant.

471  Economy / Marketplace / Any brokers out there buying points and skymiles for Bitcoin? on: November 18, 2013, 01:59:13 AM
Just wondering since I traditionally sell my skymiles and points using brokers, are there any bitcoin brokers out there purchasing skymiles and reward points paying in bitcoin?

475  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: The Current price development on: November 17, 2013, 10:06:23 PM
It could be at 1k tomorrow or in a few hours. No one knows.
476  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How do I open a joint bitcoin account with my husband? on: November 17, 2013, 10:02:21 PM
For a cheap, easy way to do a "joint account", just print a paper wallet and cut the private key in two.
Now each one of you just lock guard that 1/2 key, and you have a "joint account".

I think this may be the best method for the OP
477  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who here actually bought something with btc in last 6 months? on: November 17, 2013, 08:02:21 PM
I have. I think we all should.
478  Economy / Services / Re: Donate to Typhoon Haiyan Victims on: November 17, 2013, 08:17:26 AM
What has been the typical setup on bitcointalk for charity bitcoin addresses? My youngest sister is with a missions group that got to the Philippines prior to the typhoon and is still there. I know them and the whole country could use a lot of help.

You are encouraged to donate via the official websites, since it is too easy for a noob to create a new account and post a bitcoin address for "donations'".

I don't think there are "official" ways to donate to victims via bitcoin.

Sell your bitcoins and give the cash to the red cross.

That's an option for sure if you like the red cross and want to sell bitcoins for fiat donations.

It is a lofty goal still. I haven't seen any Philippines related Bitcoin charity donation addresses. But I do agree someone trusted in the community should set something like that up and even better if they have a local connection with a group like my sister's who can post photo updates to the threads, stories, etc. Those are my favorite types of donating, to actual mission groups on the ground.

Yeah. It may be a lofty goal, but I'm trying to be the first.

It ain't no loftier than this: Typhoon Haiyan Relief Fund (.org, et al. registered to raise $1M USD)

This is something small scale. Also, I plan to give out the packages personally. If this does go big, by then will I approach ABS-CBN or GMA7 or any other charities.

I understand your small scale on the ground grassroots thing. I have sent bitcoin to my sisters mission group in the philippines, don't know how you can implement such a thing though to accept bitcoin donations. Even with my trust I don't really want to start a thread to share that bitcoin address I use for my donations to their group since I don't know how the community here would react.
480  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Wallet on: November 17, 2013, 08:05:48 AM

I think for someone who is definitely new to bitcoin, blockchain has a pretty easy way to about things. You don't need to keep one little bit of bitcoin in your blockchain wallet live, but you can setup paper wallet addresses and easily put them into the system when mobility is needed. I don't really think anyone should keep bitcoins in online wallets unless they have immediate plans for moving.
